Be honest, how many people actually remembered that today was the open of full-season minor league baseball? It seemed from the many I talked to today, that it was either A) on the back of their minds or B) they had no idea.
In any case, I'm back this year to hopefully do more than just wrap up each game in the system. One idea is to do several profiles on specific players at the AAA level, another is a few player interviews. What I can assure is that Lookout Landing's minor league coverage will improve, something it's drastically needed for awhile now. With that, on to the wrap-up!
NOTE: As of this update (7:59am PDT), very few boxscores are available. Throughout the day I'll update if anything else becomes available.
Tacoma opened with a win over Fresno, 6-2. For some bizarre reason, there is no box anywhere yet. What can be said though is that Jorge Campillo had a stellar outing up until the 7th when he loaded the bases and gave way to Masao Kida, who threw six straight balls and walked in a run before inducing a Julio Ramirez groundout. Justin Leone also went yard with a solo shot. Notables when available.
San Antonio scored two in the 9th to topple Corpus Christi, 3-2. Jon Nelson was the hero in the Missions opener as he belted a walk-off two run shot off of Kevin Hodge. Bobby Livingston got the start and was effective for his six innings as he allowed only one run on five hits while not walking a batter. Other than Nelson's blast and a Nate Espy homerun, there really wasn't much Mission offense to write home about.
Notables:
Bobby Livingston: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 1-3, 1 BB.
Nate Espy: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R.
Jon Nelson: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Ismael Castro: 0-3.
Rene Rivera: 0-3.
Inland Empire beat up on Bakersfield, 13-9. No box yet. Notables and box when available.
Wisconsin edged Peoria in their opener, 3-1. Mark Lowe went six shutout innings and Matt Tuiasosopo drove in two as the Timber Rattlers start their season with a win. Notables when available.

Box Scores
minorleaguebaseball.com doesn't have the box scores for most of the Mariner minor league affiliates, but if you go to each teams page on that website and click on stats you'll get the stats for each game.It was a clean sweep for the M's affiliates.
Wisconsin and Inland both won.
Mark Lowe went 6ip 3h 2bb and 6k for Wisconsin
Tui, Cabrera, and Chen all had 2 hits with Tui driving in 2 runs.
For Inland: Kevin Olore was roughed up and wild... 2.1ip 4h 4r 2hr 4bb 3k
Collins went 3-4 with a homerun and 4rbi
Lahair, Colton, Jones, and Gonzales added 2 hits
Michael Garciaparra went 1-4 with a triple and drove in the first Inland run

Cabrera
He had to leave the game with an injury. Doesn't sound real bad, but it's worth keeping an eye on, as he's probably the only talented shortstop in the system who has a future at the position.Jeff Sullivan - April 8, 2005
Box Scores
Yeah, I just like to have the boxscore handy so I can get exact numbers in there instead of having to try and copy a wrap from the affiliates website. In anycase, hopefully minorleaguebaseball.com jumps on the ball and gets those Mariner affiliates going.

Balentin
also went yard last night for Inland Empire.Trent - April 8, 2005
Adam Jones...
I think it would be amiss to not throw out props to Lookout Landing's favorite, Adam Jones, who also went deep last night.I guess he can shelf that 95mph fastball for another day.

Re: Adam Jones...
Hey, Devin's the one who doesn't like Adam Jones. I don't think he's going to last at shortstop, but he had a decent year for a 19 year old in his first full season of professional baseball.Jeff Sullivan - April 8, 2005
Adam Jones
I don't think that Jones gets enough credit in the M's blogosphere. He has a lot of talent, and, considering his age and level of competition, has been better than a lot of people give him credit for. If he improves his plate discipline a bit, he could be a solid ML player. If he can't stick at SS, he would make a real nice centerfielder. His glove, speed, and arm would project well there. Hopefully, he can stay at SS. However, his power will be a plus at either position.Jerry - April 8, 2005
Re: Adam Jones
The problem being that anyone who puts up a 124/33 K/BB ratio in low-A has a lot of work to do before he becomes an impact offensive prospect.Fortunately, Jones is still a teenager, so he's got nothing but time.
