Obviously, when I said "expect him to be day-to-day for a little while," I meant "expect him to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL." Wiki Gonzalez is coming up to take his place; Wilson went to the 60-day DL to make room.
Dan wasn't going to be a significant contributor to the 2005 Mariners by any means, but replacing an experienced, likeable veteran with a total candyass isn't going to help anyone, Olivo in particular.
PECOTA projects Wiki to hit .234/.310/.378 this year in limited duty. Which is fine for a backup catcher, but this is a guy who's pissed off fans and coaches in Southern California and the Pacific Northwest alike with his lazy attitude and reluctance to listen to instruction. If ever there were a time for Olivo to step up, it's now.

Wiki
I think Wiki is just temporary until a deal can be made.Steve Nelson - May 4, 2005
Corky Miller
Corky Miller is passing through waivers right now. Is he any better than Wiki?RavingGoat - May 5, 2005
Wow
I knew Wilson got hurt but a torn ACL? That's rough, I wonder how hard it makes him consider retirement? Not the kind of pain I would wish on a person.bluemax - May 5, 2005
Even though he's not very good
This sucks I loved Dan Wilson, sure he couldn't hit or throw anymore but dammit he could block balls (something wiki won't even attempt to do)Scruffy Lefty - May 5, 2005
