To the guy who arrived at LL by Googling "why does Adrian Beltre suck," God bless you.
TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS SEATTLE MARINERS

Crawford LF Ichiro RF
Lugo SS Winn LF
Huff RF Beltre 3B
Phelps DH Sexson 1B
Hollins CF Ibanez DH
Lee 1B Boone "2B"
Cantu 2B Reed CF
Johnson C Morse SS
Gonzalez 3B Borders C
---------- ----------
Nomo (3-5, 6.52) Moyer (5-2, 5.28)
Moyer's coming off a pair of strong starts in which he's allowed four runs in 14 innings while making his defense do most of the work. Look for more of the same today, with some problem potential given that Tampa Bay's got a pretty quick lineup. Opposing him is Hideo Nomo, who's shooting for his 200th career professional victory, a big deal in Japan since their seasons are shorter than ours. He's had 11 starts this year and walked as many or more batters than he's struck out in seven of them. To make things better (worse?), he's also got a home run problem, as his mid-80s fastball just doesn't quite get the job done anymore. You'd like to think that this is the day when Beltre takes off, but it's almost certainly not, so shut up.
LET'S GO MARINERS!

Hell of a relay throw.
I love it when the second baseman two-hops the catcher from 120 feet...Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
Morse
Awesome defender, just awesome.bluemax - June 5, 2005
Morse
I was expecting bad range, not bad throws. This is probably the worst defensive middle infield in baseball right now.
Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
HE'S THE NEXT ALEX RODRIGUEZ!
Rick Rizzs said so!Yeah, this game is awful. Just awful.

Bizarre hit for Ichiro.
And, according to Rizzs, here's "Randy Rim".Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005

Single?
Niehaus' description was awful, sounded like an errorBaltimoreMarinersFan - June 5, 2005
Re: Single?
Looked like an error to me, too, but I don't know the official rule for what you call when a guy runs into the wall and drops the ball. That one just kept carrying, which is weird with the roof closed.
Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
In the gap Beltre
PLEEEEEEEASE!bluemax - June 5, 2005
Poo.

If tappers back to the mound were gumdrops

Sorry, Nomo.
Maybe next week.Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
Seriously
Ibanez needs to be hitting third for this team rightnow.Trent - June 5, 2005
Re: Seriously
Really, it should be anyone but Beltre.Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
Ibanez....
I wonder if moving him would throw him off at all. Would he feel more pressure hitting third? He seems to be comfortable where he is. But then who do you put at 3 if not him?BaltimoreMarinersFan - June 5, 2005
Nelson time!
And with a runner already on base! All right!Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
I don't get that move.
And now I get it even less. This is bad.
Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
This is definitely not 2001
Go away BooneBaltimoreMarinersFan - June 5, 2005
And...
Take Nelson with you.Morgan - June 5, 2005
2001
If the Mariners decide to do a 10th anniversary celebration for the 2001 M's in 2011, that would be 100 times worse than the 1995 10th anniversary deal. There's a reason why I don't like to talk about the 2001 season very much.
RizzsRolled - June 5, 2005
re: 2001
It was a depressing finish. But they did set a pretty significant record. I would guess they would be honored at some pointBaltimoreMarinersFan - June 5, 2005
This is pretty much the worst inning ever.
Thank goodness they have a crappy hitter at the plate. We could escape this jam yet.Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005
Jeff Nelson
Should not be in the game right now.bluemax - June 5, 2005
Or ever.
Just sayin'.Morgan - June 5, 2005

Congrats, Beltre.
Thank you for getting 1/20th of your career hits with Seattle.Jeff Sullivan - June 5, 2005

ryanhealy - June 5, 2005

Another win!bluemax - June 5, 2005
