He's still a developing hitter, and after finally spending his first full season in the bigs, he gets a bit more confidence and tells Grover, etc., to f-off. He doesn't exactly bust out, but, he still hits 15 bombs and between 35-40 doubles.
...that Grover says he tired down the stretch last year. Young hitter playing in the most games he'd ever played, losing his power as he wears down... makes sense to me.
The home runs I saw him hit looked just like every ball I'd ever seen him smoke in Cheney. The guy can pull a fastball. Even if he never turns into a 20HR guy, I'd be shocked if he didn't hit 40-50 doubles + triples at some point in his career.
gave him 74 walks. That would sure be nice. The only problem is that with Hargrove's aggressive baserunning philosophy, Lopez would try to take 2 on a BB.
"I'm not really expecting a breakout season from Lopez, but more of an incremental improvement from last year. He'll still likely be a liability with the bat, but expect flashes of serious power to remind you of his potential."
I was pretty much right. It's going to be the same again this year, too...
what on earth would ever prevent Jose from getting playing time, aside from Willie Bloomquist. We're not seriously going to put Jose Vidro out at 2B ever, right?
are going to do to him. Hopefully he can steer away from the fatty foods or that extra weight might lead to him twisting an ankle or tweaking a knee. Nothing big, but more wear and tear than normal. Plus, there is no way in my mind he's going to be our only 2B. 2B is probably the only spot WFB can get any playing time and Vidro's old so if he wants to play the field occasionally, Hargrove will probably let him every once in a while. Hopefully Lopez doesn't give Hargrove any reason not to play him but I could see him trying to "rest" Lopez every once in a while.
My Jose projection
didn't look too good.280/319/371, 580 AB, 26 dou, 4 tri, 6 HR, 75/25 K/BB.
I don't think the power's coming back. I stand by my assertion that the HR barrage last year was an anomaly.

Grover's career
Since Hargrove had a career SLG lower than his career OBP, maybe that's what he wants out of Lopez...Llewdor - February 9, 2007

Don't even say that, Deanna :(
Graham MacAree - February 9, 2007
Well, I mean
My thought was "Is there any reason at all he shouldn't get 600+ PA? Do we even HAVE any depth at 2B right now?"And then of course, I thought of the reasons, and well, y'know. Anyway.
