In six innings so far this March, Sherrill has allowed three home runs, or three more than he did in all of 2006. Of course, his current 18.00 Cactus League ERA fits right in with his 9.31 career mark in Peoria, so it's not like this is anything out of the ordinary. Hell, a year ago he allowed four longballs in five spring appearances before blanking the opposition over 72 in the regular season. So this probably isn't anything to worry about. The community certainly doesn't seem too concerned, as it's projecting another strong LOOGY campaign despite present ineffectiveness and mild recurring elbow trouble. Still a lot of walks, but the rate's a hell of a lot better than last year's, which is neat. With better control Sherrill could elevate himself from useful lefty to valuable rally-killer, and that'd be key for a bullpen that suddenly needs a lot of help.

He'll be fine...
Once he gets his mechanics settled, he'll be fine. It's nice to know that he appears to have Hargrove's support and that he doesn't really have to battle for a job on the big club for the first time, really, ever.  He needs the innings -- and the struggles -- to make the adjustments to get ready for the season.

I mean, heck, he's clearly lost some weight this offseason, too.  He's got to adjust to his newer, svelter self :-)

Really?
I thought he was going to have to battle it out with Arthur Rhodes for the late-inning left handed specialist job.
No
It's O'flaherty and Rhodes battling for the 2nd lefty spot I think.
Arizona air
It is particularly hard to get breaking balls to work in Arizona (so I've heard). Guys like Sherrill that need to keep batters off balance with breaking stuff are more subject to getting lit up in Arizona because batters can sit on the fastball. Unless he is hiding some sort of soreness and trying to pitch through it, GS will be fine once he's gets back to the friendly air of the northwest. Even when on the road, it will be better than AZ.
Off-Topic but, (Deleted Off-Topic)

So when are you more talented guys gonna bust out the 2007 Seattle Mariners Magic Cards? Let's get to work already!

Oh, on-topic. Go George?

Although I didn't make any cards
I'd say we probably have to see how the players do first before figuring out what their "special abilities" are. :)
I'm waiting to get some material first.
Believe me, there will be a 2007 edition to the Mariner Magic Cards, but they probably won't be out till at least June or so, maybe later.

Plus, half the battle is getting a good picture to go along with it. So I gotta wait till something good comes across.

I'm sure
someone could photoshop Vidro's hamstrings blowing up and somehow injuring Doyle in the process. Last year's were awesome so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.
