Well that is just par for the course, isnt it?
We strike a guy out, it gets called a walk, and the next guy up doubles in 3 runsLongBeachDave - September 8, 2007
Polanco doubles, Sheffield makes out.
Black players are easier to control.Jeff Sullivan - September 8, 2007
But umpires clearly fear black players.
Granderson's "walk" is evidence.BrettJMiller - September 8, 2007
God I hate this....I just got off work and come
home to RRS' blown call and Mac being the worst manager in the world. I hate that I'm going to miss baseball season soon....BrettJMiller - September 8, 2007
After this
it's going to take a lot longer for me to miss baseball than it did last year or the year before.Jeff Sullivan - September 8, 2007
But we'll have the offseason!
When we can see Bavasi trade Wlad and Lopez for Lenny DiNardo!Aw, crap...

On a somewhat positive note
although in the long run it won't matter at all, Tampa Bay scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat Toronto, 5-4.When was the last time we scored 4 runs in an inning?
LongBeachDave - September 8, 2007
Probably in that game we lost against LA.
Jeff Sullivan - September 8, 2007
Fourteen games.
Thirteen losses.Jeff Sullivan - September 8, 2007
This inning drips with irony

So seriously,
what's the chance, Mac gets fired at the end of this season due to this horrific collapse? 80, 90%?Coach Owens - September 8, 2007
0%
We will hear happy talk from Lincoln about how the organization made progress when we finish 83-79, and there will be contract extensions and lollipops for everyone.</unreasonable pessimism>

I really don't think we're finishing above .500.
If we do you're situation will be accurate though.SethGrandpa - September 8, 2007

The M's...
... would have to go 7-15 the rest of the way to finish 81-81.It's a possibility based on play so far in September, I suppose, but that would mean a season-finishing stretch of 8-28.
You might also consider the caliber of the opposition the next 10 games (after this series) is considerably worse than what we faced during this collapse (no teams below .500): Oakland home/away (terrible offense) and Tampa Bay at home (unbelievably bad defense, worse than ours, even). I don't think they will faceplant those games. They might even go 6-4, 7-3 and give some false hope.
I think we are looking at something like 83 (if they really suck the rest of the way) to 87 (if they perk up some) wins... which is at the higher end of my predictions, but about where I saw them- improved, but flawed.
eponymous coward - September 8, 2007
Fair.
