New Manager On The Way

I don't know how many of you care about this whole process, but I do know that it's almost over:

Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik could name a new manager as soon as Tuesday after deciding not to hold a second round of interviews for the job.

Zduriencik instead spoke to his seven candidates a second time by phone over the weekend and planned to spend today mulling over his decision. It's possible he could call a couple of candidates again today, but he believes he has received enough information to make a call without having to see anyone a second time.

So it's going to be one of the seven rookies. I don't know anything about their analytical skills, so I'm going to judge them arbitrarily.

"It is," [Wakamatsu] said. "You want to get started, if you're the candidate. I'm chomping at the bit."

Published author:

champ at the bit/chomp at the bit

This is kind of a funny one, because champing does mean repeatedly chomping. Some animals champ (open and close their mouths, making a chomping noise) as part of a mating ritual. The correct expression is champ at the bit when you mean to say that someone is eager or excited.

Based on a sample size of one erroneous expression, Don Wakamatsu's the worst of them all. Here's to avoiding a different, nerdier kind of catastrophe.

Larue (as of last week) guessed Hale

for no real reason that I could see

Chip?

Isn’t he the one who’s quoted as saying he thought the Bedard trade was fantastic?

Yea, and he said Yuni is really good a defense.
I wouldn't expect somebody that is trying to get hired would try to go out alienating players from the onset.
Or the guy just saw a highlight reels

Yuni, does have some crazy plays. Though, I just realized that if he is going to make statements without having all the facts do want him as the manger.

And none of the candidates have.
I'm rooting for Wakamatsu.

You know, because THEY are smart. And stereotypes exist for a reason – they are true.

What?

asians are smarter.

it was a joke.

Usually people try to fit in the with the community before they make stupid jokes that can come off as racist

My house, my rules

I don’t think it ought to be very hard to avoid using the word "faggot".

And futher down...

I use it every so often. I’ll admit it.

However I only use it when I’m hanging out with one of my friends because we both try to be as offensive as possible around each other. That’s something we do when people aren’t around.

You can’t control for audience on LL. If you say something here, you might as well be saying it to everyone. So the rules are different.

I think you missed the point.
Is this something I don't know about?
Hmmm.

Maybe Willmore picked up on the comments on Baker’s blog that LL is a bunch of racists, and figured out it’s how to fit in ’round here…

I always view those comments as bait.

It was a joke, people, get over it.

You're not off to a very good start here.

I suggest you study up on the LL Style Guide.

You're such a conformist.
Jokes like that from people we know are funny.

Jokes like that from people that have never posted here before may in fact be funny, but since you don’t have a history here, we can’t infer from your comment whether you’re kidding or not.

Seriously, read the Style Guide. It’ll help.

So was my comment, Willmore...
I really don't care who GMZ picks

so long as he keeps are the players happy. Because as you chemistry is the most important part of the team.

How long did it take for it become apparent that Acta is a genius?
A day?
So we will know on Wensday if this is the greatest hire of all time.
and more FO rearrangement

as Greg Hunter is reassigned

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.

I read LL all the time (along with USSM, prospectinsider, and a bunch of other M’s stuff) I simply don’t have the time to read or comment, or for that matter join the community. Now, I read the post about the managers and a joke came to me. It wasn’t particularly witty or laugh out loud funny, but I liked it, and decided to post it.

All this furor about it is rather entertaining, to tell the truth.

Regardless of the joke you were trying to make,

saying stereotypes exist because they are true is just…..awful.

That was the joke – saying stereotypes are true – it was false conclusion. Because any person with an IQ above that of a monkey (no offense to monkeys) knows that stereotypes aren’t true and stupid.

The joke: I make a racist statement and substantiate it by saying that stereotypes are true, with the expectation that a sane person knows that the latter is false ergo the first statement is stupid and thus somewhat funny to begin with. It’s like watching racist redneck comedy (no offense to rednecks) and laughing at the comedian, not at his comedy, only my joke was intentional.

Again, it's not the joke, it's the teller

You’re new around here. We don’t know your sense of humor – at least we didn’t when you first posted the joke. We’re getting a better sense of it now, and that’s fine, but as a general rule if you’re not well-known around here it’s better to “build your voice” a bit before diving into humor that could be misinterpreted.

I hope you keep posting here, but please tread a little carefully until people get to know your voice a bit.

I gotta stand up for Willmore here.

Since when do we get all up in arms about racist jokes around here? This is Lookout Landing right?

And Willmore isn’t exactly new around the blogosphere in general.

I have been informed I am in the minority here, so do as you all please.

But I wouldn’t mind if they went away. I think too many of you have lived on the coasts your whole life and have never seen it in action.

Falls into the politics and religion area for me.

I think there are a few instances in which they can be quite funny.

It’s just that those instances are outnumbered 100,000:1 by the unfunny jokes.

I am not against willmore in the slightest

but I think my point still stands – had you, or anybody that’s been around a while, made the same joke, it would have been instantly clear that it was a joke, but Willmore’s new enough that there was, for some, uncertainty as to his intent. Far too much is being made of it at this point, and I hope Willmore sticks around, but as a new poster it’s probably smarter to take baby steps.

We can be a merciless bunch, and I want to make sure that The Wrath Of An Angry LL is only expended on people or, ahem, websites that deserve it. WIllmore doesn’t deserve it.

"Based on a sample size of one erroneous expression, Don Wakamatsu's the worst of them all."

say …. how do we know he didn’t say champ, and it was transcribed as chomp???
