Open Rule 5 Draft Thread

We've apparently already made a pick: Reegie Corona, out of the Yankees org. Light hitting shortstop, but I don't know much more about him beyond that.

More as we get it, of course.

Update: Dave thinks he's the new Willie Bloomquist.

Another update: What the hell his name is Reegie?

Another pick: Patrick Ryan, in the AAA portion of the draft, out of the Brewers. Strong groundballer but his strikeouts fell off a cliff in AA last year after being extremely effective in A+ in '07.

Yet Another Pick/Trade: In exchange for cash, we acquired Jose Lugo from the Twins via the Royals. Lugo's never been above High-A but he's a groundballer with good strikeout rates.

Doesn't RuleV mean they have to be on the 25?

Or does AAA portion mean you have to keep him there instead?

Yes
But it still requires a 40man spot, right?
No, I don't think so
Rule 5
I wish everyone would stop arguing about this

I mean really, who cares.
Did you go around yelling at the movie studio for Rocky V?

Yes

but not about the roman numeral as the human rights violations.

that is missing a few words.
Well...

Rule 5 and Rule V are two completely different things. It’s like referring to a car as a motorcycle. Both are forms of transportation, but in the end, they are two totally different things.

Is there an actual Rule V in the book?
Well, Rocky V was actually called Rocky V. MLB uses a 5, so there's really no reason to use the Roman numeral.

Stupid thing to argue about, though. There’s no actual Rule V to get it confused with(as far as I know), and it’s become so common that it’s pointless to try to stop people from using it.

Pedants of the world, unite!

(I say this, of course, as one of them; “Rule V” irritates me.)

You may not understand this

But V is a roman numeral that stands for five.

I'm gonna call it the Authority Cinco Enrollment.
V is also a letter.
I can't read or write. :(

A letter that broke the Goverment. =O
Princess Reggie?

Wonder if we can quantify his hustle.

I'm late adding my thoughts

BULLET POINTS:

  • Reegie has an arm, speed, and range, and could probably turn into a super utility type.
  • Lugo is mean to southpaws and they got lucky at the plate against him despite having a 30% chance of striking out.
  • Ryan runs weird reverse splits and may have a good change-up, but his sinker is already awesome. Needs breaking pitch in a bad way.
  • Marquez, Esparza, and Barb are all fairly astute picks, but not major losses on any front.
