A day or two ago, I noticed that the crowd jumped up right as the pitcher was making his delivery. I soon realized they were doing the wave, but for a split second I imagined that they all just saw a huge meatball coming out of the pitcher's hand and were already cheering the homer that was about to happen.
Several hours in the afternoon: eat, drink, be merry
Following: those with tickets go to the game, those without stay put and watch on the Tap House Grille's event room bigscreen
but I think Dave and his girlfriend are going to go spend time with Dave's family afterwards, since that's kind of the whole point of their stop in Seattle.
Let me know what you want tickets for, I usually only offer them out a week in advance to the LL regulars but if you don't want to buy M's tickets on your trip I can cover ya. I know Red's already got tickets to King Awesome Bobblehead night in his Boss's seats, so he'll be there.
but I don't know how many extra tickets he has or how many I'll need, so I'll have to let you guys know. If we need more than you have, though, I'm pretty confident that we'll be able to get free tickets regardless.
And people were unhappy at the struggle just to play that, so yeah, baseball would probably be impossible. I'd be up for baseball but I may be in the minority.
Also, I thought about it, and I'm actually doubtful for the entire weekend. My mother doesn't know the city at all, so I'll probably have to chaperone her around town. She flying home the night of the 15th.
So I'll have to drive up to Bellingham, attend a 2pm graduation, go to dinner afterwards, then speed down to Seattle, trying to make it to Safeco in time, without looking like a bad person for choosing LL over family. =/
It depends on the graduation schedule and how feasible it is to get out of UW and to Safeco, on foot or by taxi, without running into any trouble. Getting tickets certainly wouldn't be a problem. They're not big baseball fans, but we DID watch last year's HR derby on TV and my mother had a reasonable interest in what was happening. I'll float it if it's logistically possible. I'm sure my mother would be keen on visiting the ballpark. 3+ hours in Safeco may be a bit of a grind for a non-diehard, but they may be willing to take it in, especially if I'm there to explain what's going on.
It should be called 'most retarded fishermen' or 'idiot rednecks on a boat' or something like that. Especially since it's not the most dangerous job in the world and yet they constantly say it is.
Maybe it'll be good for him, so he can get a little confidence back. I think just about anyone would be pretty shaken by this recent string of awful outcomes, some his fault, some not.
I don't think he needs to be sent down, but it might do some good for him. JJ could be coming back soon and Corco has certainly pitched well enough to keep his spot. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Bedard.
Everyone here is great, and I love Seattle, but man do Seattle fans suck. Bretticus and I were getting booed the entire game for not remaining quiet during the game and for not cheering on the hydro races.
I hate to say it, but the real Boston fans who are middle-aged and stuff and have actually been through the heartache are pretty cool....and Fenway never needs scoreboard prompting, which is nice...
But I hate the bandwagoners and Red Sox nation >:(
Boston fans go for the baseball, not for the dancing fucking groundkeepers. Most Seattle fans do suck. These threads are filled with people who don't suck though, and they make the games way more fun.
Norton essentially walked to that ball in the gap.
Just awful.

LantermanC - April 13, 2008
Maybe they figure they'll just blow his arm out
No need to send him to Tacoma then!!
seattlesundevil - April 13, 2008
that's what you get for hustling Kendrick
MFAN - April 13, 2008
RRS please.

This looks like a situation where Baek would fit nicely..
Oh.. wait.

The worst part of the wave is the cheering
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
The worst part of the wave is when it takes place during the opposing team's ABs.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
And when you are losing big.
Schuxu - April 13, 2008
And just about any other time it happens

althemarinerfan - April 13, 2008
Poor, EOF.
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
I love this game!
JI - April 13, 2008
Why has Potatoes pitched this much?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
because with Bedard out
they're down to an 10 man staff.... burn up the crap pitcher in a blowout.
MfaninAlaska - April 13, 2008
Isn't that what Corcoran is for?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Corcoran better then EOF
MfaninAlaska - April 13, 2008
I'm not ready to believe that.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
No, he provides pics of highway signs.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
correct
Corco - April 13, 2008

ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
Yeah
Potatoes just has to suck it up at this point.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
This is how pitchers in High Desert are treated
It builds character and puts hair on your chest.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
...but it wasn't a blowout until after EOF came in
pakipaki - April 13, 2008
well if hte game wasn't over before
it's officially over now
LantermanC - April 13, 2008
So they just decided to crush EOF's confidence here, yeah?
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Well that was Potatoes fault.
dkulich - April 13, 2008
Okay now this is just pointless
O'Flaherty's thrown way too many pitches.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
They're just using him up before they send him down
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Jeff Mathis again? really?

3 homers against us, 5 against everyone else

redwolf75 - April 13, 2008
over/under on O'Flaherty to the DL?
Corco - April 13, 2008
That's not an over/under question
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
how is it not?
or am I missing a joke?
Corco - April 13, 2008
You do not state an amount for it to be over or under.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
its a yes or no question... theres no numbers involved
thenatural - April 13, 2008
how is that a yes or no question?
I'm really fucking confused
Corco - April 13, 2008
Appropriate answer to "Will EOF go to the DL."
1) Yes
2) No
There aren't any other answers to that question that make sense.
joof - April 13, 2008
but that is not the question I asked
Corco - April 13, 2008
what is the question?
thenatural - April 13, 2008
True. The question you asked made no fucking sense.
They're translating.

O/U on amount of (insert period of time) until EOF goes on DL.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
And even then, don't
because over/under is a dead meme.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008

LL/USSM event: June 14th, Saturday afternoon
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
5 year highschool reunion that i'm not going to

LantermanC - April 13, 2008

Which would be awesome.
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
nice day for that
My 21st birthday
mariners11 - April 13, 2008
I'll be in McCall, Idaho
Corco - April 13, 2008
I'm happy that you will be in an interesting place at least.
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
Don't get caught in traffic.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
I will not be Corco-baited
Corco - April 13, 2008
At which venue?
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
Not sure yet
*maybe* the Tap House Grille but that's not set in stone.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Will you be in town?
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
Wouldn't really qualify as an LL event without me
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Damn straight
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
This still haunts me
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Is it just going to be one game
or like last year with an M's game and a minor league game?
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Dave has a busy schedule
so I think it'll just be a block of hours eating and drinking somewhere. But don't take my word for it yet.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Works for me
I'll actually be up there this year... Looking forward to it
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Here's the tentative plan
NONE OF THIS IS GUARANTEED
Several hours in the afternoon: eat, drink, be merry
Following: those with tickets go to the game, those without stay put and watch on the Tap House Grille's event room bigscreen
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Hm I'll have to catch a redeye out that night to get back to NY
But I should be able to stay till around 8 or so.
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
Which is pretty lucky for me
Fett42 - April 13, 2008
Oh and Baker and maybe someone from the organization will be there
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Bedard? Not like he'll be pitching
MFAN - April 13, 2008
So are you and Dave ones with tickets or ones staying in the bar?
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
I don't know what I'll be doing yet
but I think Dave and his girlfriend are going to go spend time with Dave's family afterwards, since that's kind of the whole point of their stop in Seattle.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Crazy families.
Well, feel free to take my second ticket for that day, I haven't offered it to anyone else yet.
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
You going on Friday?
King Awesome Bobblehead Night.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
I'll be going to all of 'em.
Let me know what you want tickets for, I usually only offer them out a week in advance to the LL regulars but if you don't want to buy M's tickets on your trip I can cover ya. I know Red's already got tickets to King Awesome Bobblehead night in his Boss's seats, so he'll be there.

Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Sounds good. I'll e-mail you a contact number if you need to get ahold of me while you're in Seattle
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
Certainly
A part of me wants to be mad, but my rational self knows I can't because there are a variety of unrelated, important circumstances involved.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
Let me reiterate
If the day is set in stone, I cannot do any of this.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
It's the only day Dave can make it
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Oh but
depending on a few things we might do some smaller LL event on Sunday. Not sure.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
I certainly hope so
In any case, have fun, I guess.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
Would be cool to play softball on the 15th
but since the M's start at 1:05...
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
What's this softbal thing?
Is there a team, of is it just ad hoc?
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Bunch of readers get together, play
I previously insisted on playing baseball but I don't think enough people here are up for that/good at it.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
I would like to play baseball
Though I haven't played since I was 19, and I'm not 19 anymore. Baseball is fine as long as we're not nazi's about the strike zone.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
We played stickball for a bit yesterday
And people were unhappy at the struggle just to play that, so yeah, baseball would probably be impossible. I'd be up for baseball but I may be in the minority.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
just whoever wants to play I think
nothing formal
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Then we can do it at 4:30?
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
Quite possibly
we'll talk about this as the day gets closer.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
I'm admittedly very sad
Also, I thought about it, and I'm actually doubtful for the entire weekend. My mother doesn't know the city at all, so I'll probably have to chaperone her around town. She flying home the night of the 15th.

Get Bavasi to get you group tickets at a discounted price.
Remember, he may be a bad GM, but he's a nice guy....right? Right...?
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
You're doing it on the day of my college graduation
My family's in town. What the fuck?
Gomez - April 13, 2008
LL>Your family
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
Dude
You have no idea how big of a deal this is for them to come up here. The timing of this is just terrible.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
Argh
June 14th = my sister's graduation from college.
Lame. I'll need to sabotage her finals.
Katal LM - April 13, 2008
Man, you guys are late up there
My graduation date is May 8th...
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Hey
Your sister and I will be in the same place.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
Nah, she's WWU
So I'll have to drive up to Bellingham, attend a 2pm graduation, go to dinner afterwards, then speed down to Seattle, trying to make it to Safeco in time, without looking like a bad person for choosing LL over family. =/
Katal LM - April 13, 2008
I'm in a more impossible position
My mother and brother know next to nothing about the area. I can't really leave them.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
Why not take them to the game?
Katal LM - April 13, 2008
Would you take family to hang out with us?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
My siblings and I can be worse ;P
They'd probably get a kick out of the LL crowd, if they ever met.
Gomez - April 13, 2008
An intriguing idea. We can try.
It depends on the graduation schedule and how feasible it is to get out of UW and to Safeco, on foot or by taxi, without running into any trouble. Getting tickets certainly wouldn't be a problem. How many pitches is this for him?
50?
Fett42 - April 13, 2008

Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
yup
MfaninAlaska - April 13, 2008
Neat. One of my favorite shows.
I've got a buddy who was a greenhorn this season on one of the King crab vessels. No idea which one, though.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
That show is mis-titled
It should be called 'most retarded fishermen' or 'idiot rednecks on a boat' or something like that. Especially since it's not the most dangerous job in the world and yet they constantly say it is.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Don't be hating on a Mike Rowe narrated show.
BrianL - April 13, 2008

Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Stedman Graham has the most dangerous job in the world
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
hmmm... think mac is burning eof
because he already knows this is eof's last outing for the M's?
sammy - April 13, 2008
Who else do we have?
We really don't have much in the way of available long relief.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
I believe RRS has been/can be a starter.
Mariner John - April 13, 2008
wouldn't surprise me
to see EOF go down and then Dickey or Feierabend get called up for long relief
MfaninAlaska - April 13, 2008
Nice work, EOF.
I'm proud of ya. Really!
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008

Man, Darren Oliver must really suck.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Now we're going to win
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
10-4 is less humiliating than 7-2
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Any score that starts with 10 for the opposition is humiliating.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
It's a tainted 10
Morse...
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
What if it's 10-16 and you're dyslexic?
Liebkartoffel - April 13, 2008
If you're dyxlexic, that score could be 61-01
Or 161-0
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Even better.
Liebkartoffel - April 13, 2008
And... duh.
CapSea - April 13, 2008
Nice route HGH
hcoguy - April 13, 2008
HAHAHA SIMS
"10-4. Roger that"
I appreciate you
Corco - April 13, 2008
ALL RIGHT COME ON CORCORAN
There, I took care of it for you, Corco.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
I ALWAYS CALL HIM ROY
Corco - April 13, 2008

thenatural - April 13, 2008
NICE JOB ROY
Corco - April 13, 2008
ROY IS A BEAST
Corco - April 13, 2008
Comeback City!!!
Lets do it
thenatural - April 13, 2008
I keep waiting for Corcoran to show why he's a nobody
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
nobody named Corcoran is a nobody
Corco - April 13, 2008
You're a nobody
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
That's not what my momma says
Corco - April 13, 2008
Oh snap!
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
It's what she says to me
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
That's not any of my business
Corco - April 13, 2008
So who's getting called up when EOF is sent down today?
Feierabend or Dickey?
Anyone on the waiver wire we should fear Bavasi picking up?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Feier, especially if Bedard is out, because they probably don't see Dickey as a starter.
Though I'd love to see them use RRS.
CapSea - April 13, 2008
Steve Kline is on the waiver wire :(
Rhodes is a huge possibility.
MFAN - April 13, 2008
Rhodes isn't ready yet, is he?
I was hearing early to mid-may before a callup was possible.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Aren't jeff Weaver and Freddy Garcia still available?
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
and Horacio Ramirez!
Corco - April 13, 2008
The triumphant return of HO-RAM
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
The sad thing?
I can see Bavasi giving Horacio that 2.5 million back.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Swear to god if we sign Kline...
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Go Rays!
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Phillies signed him on Friday
Thank God
Corco - April 13, 2008
Thanks Gillick, you old coot
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Grand Pooh-bah of the Racoon Lodge to the rescue again.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
What, Ron Villone wasn't available?
Gomez - April 13, 2008
That would irritate me if this were close and if it weren't Cairo
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Miguel Cairo still sucks.
JI - April 13, 2008
Yesterday the Dodgers beat the Padres 11-1
today the Padres beat the Dodgers 1-0.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
At least the Padres offense is consistent
Corco - April 13, 2008
Jeff Mathis has been busy today
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=280413112
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
How does Yahoo! screw up so often?
Corco - April 13, 2008
YOU SUX SECKSON
Corco - April 13, 2008
But he's so tall...
If he couldn't get there, no one could
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
My fathers words exactly
You have no idea how annoying it gets
Corco - April 13, 2008
But he is really tall...
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Timber.....
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
We fucking suck!!!
How are we losing to the halos 10-4! Back to sub 500. FUCK!
THE VOICE - April 13, 2008
HAAA!
Jesus, that made my day.
Teej - April 13, 2008
Holy hell that man is a klutz
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
The part where his legs lift up and face drives into the grass . . .
unbeatable.
Teej - April 13, 2008
Screencap?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
I'm not good at computers.
Teej - April 13, 2008
Well, I know how to do a screengrab,
but I can't rewind MLB.tv until the game's over.
Teej - April 13, 2008
Oh God
F-Rod is healed already?
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
AIM AT HIS ANKLES
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Pull a Jose Offerman and take a few swings at them
thenatural - April 13, 2008
O goody, we get to see K-rod dance on the mound
MFAN - April 13, 2008
Maybe his shoulder will finally explode today.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
My head asplode
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
He sure does throw strikes
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Bad Yuni
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Why must we always have series wins
overshadowed by games like this?
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Because god hates us
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
We've won 3/4 series thus far
and we're below .500
This doesn't seem to make sense
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Homeless man left
4pm must be good panhandlin'
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Gotta get out to the streetcorner
before the other fans leave.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
He had to go make his 'Can't lie, need beer' sign.
Is 80's hair still there?
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Gotta set up in time for the end of game rush.
JI - April 13, 2008
Imagine how much money you could make
standing outside of Safeco... probably more when we didn't just get destroyed, but still
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Lopez rules.
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
Ichiro has been a half-step away from a hit
in every AB today
thenatural - April 13, 2008
The hell kind of pitch was that?
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Hooray for meaningless RBIs!
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Raul remains en fuego
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Alright, 10-5 is less embarrassing
thenatural - April 13, 2008
woo hoo!! Can't hit a 5 run homer
MFAN - April 13, 2008
I like that Rodriguez is still struggling
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
Must protect the Pythag...
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
This seems like a mismatch
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
WTF??? he went around??
MFAN - April 13, 2008
Wow.
This game was an abortion
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
gay
thenatural - April 13, 2008
God, if Raul was DH.
I would be soooo happy.
CapSea - April 13, 2008
Kansas City is going to rape our pitching staff.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Well whatever
I can't believe we scored five runs with this lineup.
Jeff Sullivan - April 13, 2008
This game was punted from the beginning.
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
Is there a reason why you can listen to the entire post-game on the radio
But the TV post-game is cut off?
thenatural - April 13, 2008
Shut the fuck up Kreuger.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Kreuger just called Morse's defensive crap a 'little bit of a misplay'
What a load of shit. Our sports media is fucking horrible.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
What do you want him to call it?
A gloriously spectacular failure? Because that's a whole bunch of "I'm going to get myself fired" if he said that.
CapSea - April 13, 2008
That's it. I'm going to run around greenlake
I bet my hip hip feels like Bedard's when I'm done
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
I made a good decision to stop watching the game
seattlebruin - April 13, 2008
Didn't catch the game...
not enough time to scroll through game thread. Is EOF being sent down?
Omerta - April 13, 2008
No.
ThundaPC - April 13, 2008
Great. I'm a quarter Irish and I can't be sustained without potatoes.
Omerta - April 13, 2008
No announced roster move
but the way Johnny Mac was talking he's not long for the team
Corco - April 13, 2008
Wouldn't be that surprised at this point
Maybe it'll be good for him, so he can get a little confidence back. I think just about anyone would be pretty shaken by this recent string of awful outcomes, some his fault, some not.
OlSalty - April 13, 2008
I have a feeling that if he goes down
we're not going to see him again until September.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
That may be true, but....
It depends on how well Rhodes pitches when he returns. One thing is for sure, RRS will be seeing more time after tonight
OlSalty - April 13, 2008
The minute Rhodes is healthy enough to pitch he'll stick on the ML roster.
This is a McLaren staff we're talking about.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Depends upon his personality
and if he's experienced this kind of failure before. I wish him the best, I totally thought he was ready to step into the left handed set up role.
Omerta - April 13, 2008
He hasn't pitched as poorly as most people think.
He definitely hasn't pitched as poorly as Bill Kreuger thinks.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
agreed
I don't think he needs to be sent down, but it might do some good for him. JJ could be coming back soon and Corco has certainly pitched well enough to keep his spot. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Bedard.
MFAN - April 13, 2008
won't be Feierabend coming up
if they make a roster move... he's pitching for Tacoma today.
MfaninAlaska - April 13, 2008
this Yankee team isn't the same without Cairo
they look lost and defeated.
MFAN - April 13, 2008
I hope they bring up Dickey
I love a knuckleballer
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
I have to say
Everyone here is great, and I love Seattle, but man do Seattle fans suck. Bretticus and I were getting booed the entire game for not remaining quiet during the game and for not cheering on the hydro races.
Katal LM - April 13, 2008
Casual fans are pretty fucking terrible
I think this is pretty much universal around the league.
thenatural - April 13, 2008
My belief is we have the second worst casual fans in the game.
The worst fans belong to the Angels.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
Their non-casual fans tend to suck a lot as well.
CapSea - April 13, 2008
yeah, I bet LAnaheim's casual fans are fine
Nothing wrong for saying things like "I like it how our team always wins the division" or "Vlad is pretty good!"
It's the non-casual Angel fans that suck.
Katal LM - April 13, 2008
Hey, I'd take our casual fans over Red Sox
fans of any stripe any day.
Liebkartoffel - April 13, 2008
Amen to that.
BrianL - April 13, 2008
A lot of our casual fans turn into Red Sox fans when they're in town
thenatural - April 13, 2008
I went to Fenway during a non M's series.
I hate to say it, but the real Boston fans who are middle-aged and stuff and have actually been through the heartache are pretty cool....and Fenway never needs scoreboard prompting, which is nice...
But I hate the bandwagoners and Red Sox nation >:(
BrettJMiller - April 13, 2008
This is true
Boston fans go for the baseball, not for the dancing fucking groundkeepers. Most Seattle fans do suck. These threads are filled with people who don't suck though, and they make the games way more fun.
Smegmalicious - April 13, 2008
Yeah
Boston probably has the most "good" fans of any team in baseball. But they also have the most bad ones.
