And I’m not sure. You may be right. I’m not invested in the A’s either. But at the same time, this isn’t the most exciting comeback. It’s just… you know… good.
I didn't think that Felix should've come back out for the 8th - he was looking kinda shaky there in the 7th, and he used up all of his "continues" on the previous bases loaded spots.
We didn’t get Laws or Brohm or anything, but I’m not about to say that it “sucked” purely because we reached for players we didn’t expect Ruskell to grab. I can’t find anything overly sucky about it.
McLaren shares the blame for leaving him in too long, but you have to judge the entire start, not just part of it. Overall, it’s a decent start, not a great one.
He was quite good those seven innings. And those “line drive” hits featured.
- Single to right. - Single to center. - Single to center. - Infield single to catcher.
Three of those hits came in one innings.
Yes, you have to judge the entire start but even then, calling it just decent doesn’t make much sense to me. It’s like using ERA to judge overall performance. It doesn’t tell the whole story.
This was probably his best start of the season until the 8th (An inning which even Felix ends up giving credit to A’s for making adjustments). Quite a shame too.
For I swear like the 10th time this season, he sends his starter out with a high pitch count and does not start warming someone up after they’ve put the leadoff runner on base.
It makes no sense, Felix was at around 100 pitches after he walked the lead-off man in the 8th; there is no reason to not start at least warming someone up then. Then if Felix gives up another baserunner you’ll have someone ready to replace him before too much damage has been done, and if he doesn’t you’ve still got your guy warmed up to come in in the next inning. But no, instead he waits until Felix has put the second guy on with nobody out (and with Felix visibly fatigued) before he even starts warming up Morrow, meaning Felix has to face TWO MORE BATTERS with a 105+ pitch count and men on second and third with no outs while our pitcher gets ready. So he walks Barton to load the bases and his pitch count is over 110, yet what do you know, Morrow isn’t ready yet, Felix has to stay in long after he clearly needs to come out.
This has happened so many times this year, it’s really starting to piss me off, McLaren does not plan ahead at all for these possibilities, he just sits there and waits for a disaster to get dumped on him then reacts way too late.
The M’s should go nuts and sign Dunn and Teixeira for one last valiant push for playoffs. Did anybody see Nintendo’s last quarterly report? It’s not like NoA is hurting for cash. Then, burdened with massive contracts for the next three to five years, we can watch Ichiro wilt away at the end of his Hall of Fame career and lament Dunn’s transformation into Richie Sexson 2.0.
This should set the team back five to ten years and let Felix walk through Free Agency.
and checked the episode summary on wikipedia. They have them filled out for the rest of the season. Be forewarned if you try to go there to find out episode dates. I was dissappointed a bit.

Coach Owens - April 27, 2008
Felix wasn't all that good today.
10 baserunners in seven innings, the hits were line drives, couldn’t find the strike zone when he needed to.
Yeah, the offense was bad as usual, but it’s not like they wasted an amazing start.
Rollo Tomasi - April 27, 2008
He was very good for seven innings
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
Save for the 8th inning
That was a better-than-average Felix start. Hard to call 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 10 strikeouts of shutout ball “Not good”.
ThundaPC - April 27, 2008
The 8th inning is part of the start, though
McLaren shares the blame for leaving him in too long, but you have to judge the entire start, not just part of it. Overall, it’s a decent start, not a great one.
Rollo Tomasi - April 27, 2008
You were talking about the seven innings though.
ThundaPC - April 27, 2008
No, I was talking about hiw whole start
which totaled seven innings since he only got 21 outs.
Rollo Tomasi - April 27, 2008
Not true.
BrettJMiller - April 27, 2008
Another reason McLaren is a bad manager
OlSalty - April 27, 2008
Wait 'til 2009!
Fun times to be had by all!

Off-day tomorrow!
Then again, House tomorrow!
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Graham would be asleep by the time House comes on anyway
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
and I have soccer at 9. >:(
I’m going to try and score the ep early via hulu or torrent
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Torrents are proof that even an angry God has a little soft spot for humans
If you want I can send you a series of text messages that ruin the episode before you get to watch.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
I already couldn't help myself
and checked the episode summary on wikipedia. They have them filled out for the rest of the season. Be forewarned if you try to go there to find out episode dates. I was dissappointed a bit.
Anyways, what would the text messages be?
9:02pm: Jeff to Matthew – House insults someone
9:05pm: Jeff to Matthew – Cameron is weak
9:13pm: Jeff to Matthew – Foreman acts like House
9:15pm: Jeff to Matthew – Someone thinks it’s lupus!
9:22pm: Jeff to Matthew – House insults someone
9:24pm: Jeff to Matthew – House is wrong about something
9:29pm: Jeff to Matthew – Wilson lectures House

Matthew - April 27, 2008
I think this is the seldom-seen Perfect Comment.
I don’t even know how to respond, except by saying that the fact that we enjoy House probably explains why we get along with Graham.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
That is absolute genius
and the amazing thing about House is that even though that’s the template for every damn ep it’s still well worth watching.
pdb - April 27, 2008
I wonder if we could do a LL --> House character map
Sounds like a drinking game.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Open show thread!
JI - April 27, 2008
What's the House M.D. version of GTE?
FUCK CHONDRITIS!!!
Matthew - April 27, 2008
FUCK YOU 13 YOU ARE NOT INTERSTING OR CLEVER
JI - April 27, 2008

Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
There are better targets for your man love.
JI - April 27, 2008
I couldn't really think of much
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
Chase.
JI - April 27, 2008
Hells no
arrogant son of a bitch
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
Much hotter.
JI - April 27, 2008
I'd go gay for Cameron
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
I always knew that you were secretly a girl.
Coach Owens - April 27, 2008
So now I'm a 70 year old woman running an active baseball blog
That would be quite the accomplishment.
I just find Cameron rather mannish.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
Okay, I'll Dave you said that.
Coach Owens - April 27, 2008
what?
JI - April 27, 2008
that makes sense
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
Buh?
I think she behaves like a bratty drama queen, but that’s just me.
JI - April 27, 2008
Physically mannish
or at least physically non-girlish.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
I disagree
I’m all about Cuddy anyway.
JI - April 27, 2008
I don't find power sexy
Matthew - April 27, 2008
I find lack of power sexy
I like a will I don’t have to break.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
So.... you on a diet?
No? You should try one.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
When they cry they're vulnerable
When they’re vulnerable they’re easy to control.
When they’re easy to control you can get whatever you want.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
It's a fine line between
easy to control and needy though.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
That's why you get a pet bunny
When she needs someone to talk to you tell her to talk to the bunny.
Jeff Sullivan - April 27, 2008
i have much to learn
Matthew - April 27, 2008
So you must really like Brad Wilkerson
seattlebruin - April 28, 2008
Like anyone does what she says.
JI - April 27, 2008
it was a reference
on a reference about how I view her.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Those are always the best kind.
JI - April 27, 2008
it's tough to look like a woman
at 80 pounds.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Dave does have a sexy intellect.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
I see what you did there.
JI - April 27, 2008
Finally a legitimate reason for sex change!
JI - April 27, 2008
The guy who applied but wasn't actually a
doctor?
Coach Owens - April 27, 2008
That's bloody brilliant
Rec’d
OlSalty - April 27, 2008
Bravo
and they can kill off the plastic surgeon and 13 anytime they want
JI - April 27, 2008
Keep in mind
that they basically had their entire game plan fucked over by the strike. They had to postpone all the story arc until next year.
JI - April 27, 2008
Yeah, that's why I'm not upset or anything
I’m still calling a romance with the psychiatrist from the south pole at some point.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
eeh
She was played by too big a name actress for her to be coming a recurring character.
JI - April 27, 2008
she won't be
any long term romance would kill the show. But a 3 or 4 ep story arc? Fits perfectly.
Matthew - April 27, 2008
Dunn is, like, collapsing before Cincinnati's eyes right now
The only thing he’s got right now, aside from power when he does manage to make contact, is an astounding walk rate.
Gomez - April 27, 2008
Their inability to trade him is hilarious.
