Brad Wilkerson and Greg Norton have both been shown the door, according to Geoff Baker.
While I was in favour of the move prior to the season, Wilkerson had a terrible start to the year and just wasn't coming out of his slump, looking terrible the whole time - it's hardly a surprise that he's been given the boot. I suspect Norton was DFA'd over Cairo because the team envisions Jose Vidro taking the switchie pinch hitter role, because i can't imagine any other reason they'd do this.
Clement and Balentien called up from AAA Tacoma. Service time complaints are for another day. Kick some ass, boys.
One thing's for sure though - this isn't last year.
PS: I'm so glad Mike Morse is on the DL.
PPS: I'll be annoyed if Clement isn't wearing #9.
Matthew's Take: Even with Bavasi does something smart, he mucks it up.
Listen, I love that they're willing to shake things up when the offense so clearly needs it (though they ignored the obvious solution, Bonds). But again, this just reeks of their total lack of planning. The Ms don't need 7 relievers, so one of them was expendable for this move; you could have just had Lowe and Morrow ride the T-Town train back and forth all year to balance their usage out.
Keeping Wilkerson around gives you at worst a 4th OF with a LH bat, which you'd want if Wlad is your new starting RF. There's zero reason to call Clement up now as opposed to 7 days from now. If you think the extra arb year doesn't matter, then you're missing the whole point. Here's what should have happened: Wlad called up, Morrow/Lowe sent down. A week hence, Clement called up, Norton DFA'd. Then you have Wilkerson as your 4th OF/ 1B backup (instead of WFB and Vidro), Vidro as your #10 hitter, Clement at DH, Wlad at RF.

Damn
Beaten to it by like 20 people.
Anyways, its either Balentien or Reed. Kinda obvious which one.
Unless of course, Bloomquist gets put out there. God I hope not.
Slica - April 30, 2008
Clement and Balentien got the call ups.
fdeezle - April 30, 2008
I think Bill Bavasi just broke USSMariner
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
It's been broken for awhile dude
BrettJMiller - April 30, 2008
Not for those of us with access to the super secret server.

I know
I meant as in
[sarcasm] Service time issues just broke USSMariner, thanks Bill Bavasi! [/sarcasm]

Its been working for me?
It worked after the game last night and it works right now…
Slica - April 30, 2008
We're working on it
(trying to be small and unobtrusive)
I’m one of the volunteer mods for USSM; we’re aware of the sporadic site issues and we’re trying to get them resolved. Bear with us.
Jeff Nye - April 30, 2008
Just to be sure we should create more diaries
and carpetbomb Jeff’s inbox to see if he knows.
JI - April 30, 2008
Bear with us?
Why are bears eating our servers?
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Let's not jump to conclusions
The bears may provide killer IT support
ningwers - April 30, 2008
The bears do good work; we'll be back up soon.
Jeff Nye - April 30, 2008
I'm calling Steven Colbert about this RIGHT NOW
johnbai - April 30, 2008
Shannon Drayer says Wilkerson, Norton DFA'd, Clement, Wlad up.
I hope we didn’t actually DFA Norton…can’t we stash him in the minors?
Of course, this wouldn’t even be an issue if they just got rid of Cairo
BrettJMiller - April 30, 2008
WHAT PURPOSE DOES CAIRO SERVE ON THIS TEAM
FASDLKJLKADF
Sorry, RMTE (roster move thread emotion) got the best of me there
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Diversifying our grittiness
As you know diverse ecosystems are healthy ecosystems.
Wait, what’s that now? This is a baseball team? Fuck.
ningwers - April 30, 2008
They’ve both been DFA’d
fdeezle - April 30, 2008
Wilkerson has his best offensive game as a Mariner and then get's the boot.
.232/.348/.304
Oh well, it was a decent idea at the time.
Goose - April 30, 2008
(cough) better than Vidro (cough)
JI - April 30, 2008
That .348 OBP isn't bad...
BrettJMiller - April 30, 2008
agreed
I think he’s much more valuable than Vidro
JI - April 30, 2008
It's okay
Pepe’s going to come in for Jose’s place on the roster
MarkE - April 30, 2008
I'm surprised we cut Wilk so quickly
but I wanted to Vidro to be the one gone. I’m paranoid that Mac will run Vidro out there time and again while Clement sits on the bench.
JI - April 30, 2008
A little cruel...
To cut him one game into the road trip, isn’t it? If yesterday’s game obviously had no bearing on his decision, why not let him go in Seattle where his stuff likely is? Seems unnecessarily inconvenient. The Front Office is spastic.
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
I don't care about how cruel it is
Wilk > Norton > Vidro
JI - April 30, 2008
And in Cleveland, no less.
Paytheline - April 30, 2008
The link now says
both Wlad and Clement up, no ambiguity there.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I too had hoped Wilkerson would be okay, but he was horrible.
Like Jeff mentioned recently, his defense was worse than expected too. I am hoping Wlad gets some excitement going for us in RF. I can’t wait to greet him next Monday.
As for Cairo. Why is he still on this team?
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
Great... I had no plans of watching the game tonight becaue I have things to do
now it’s all gonna be pushed back. Freaking Bavasi, even when he does good, he does bad :(
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Is Wlad going to wear 25 like he has been in Tacoma?
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
He wears 25?
I knew there was a reason I liked him
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
He wore 25 last year in Tacoma
but the 40-man has him listed as #50
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Proof that I am not lying
Rainiers
M’s
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Can't
retired for David Bell
JI - April 30, 2008
Hahahaha.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Why does David Bell make me think of Jeff Cirillo
Make it stop! Make it stop!
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
David Bell wasn't a crazy nutjob like Cirillo.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
All I can say is I hope they get playing time.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
There's no way not to give Wlad time with Wilk gone
And if they’re going to give him time they’re sort of obliged to do the same for Clement. His bat should play brilliantly in Safeco.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
They could play Willie in right rather than Wlad
Doubt it, but I can’t be surprised by anything this organization does.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I swear you're a closet M's fan :)
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
We're luring him over to the dark side.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I thought the Angels were the dark side.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
Good point.
But being an M’s fan is no picnic…
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Stupidity in baseball pains me
No matter what front office is perpetrating it.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
You're semi-following the wrong team.
You might want to try the Indians or Rays.
brayden04 - April 30, 2008
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?
ningwers - April 30, 2008
Love the Rays.
Can’t wait to see them when they come into town.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
Brayden
Jeff posted pictures that can be used for a CL ad. Interested in working this?
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
No he is not
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
I'd have said that would be clearly insane
But I said the exact same thing about a Kenji Johjima extension about a week before it happened so I’m just going to shut up.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I'm just going to assume Vidro is the starter
until they release him.
JI - April 30, 2008
As hard as it is to believe with this team
I think the Norton experiment showed Vidro is actually on a leash right now
ningwers - April 30, 2008
true
Richie was on a leash last year and he got his job back after two good games
until it see otherwise, I’m assuming that Clement is Roberto Petangine.
JI - April 30, 2008
I also think the fact that they're bringing up now instead of waiting a week
indicates that the team is in panic mode. He’ll play.
ningwers - April 30, 2008
A lifetime of experence tells me otherwise
but that same life experience never thought they’d see the day when a guy making $3m would be cut after ~24 games
JI - April 30, 2008
It seems disturbingly bold and intelligent, doesn't it?
ningwers - April 30, 2008
on one hand yes
on the other hand, he’s way more useful then hotdog gobbler
JI - April 30, 2008
Vidro may not be great, but he's more useful as a bench bat than Wilk
ningwers - April 30, 2008
I disagree
JI - April 30, 2008
Fair enough
ningwers - April 30, 2008
There is always a downside
Its the Mariner way.
I personally look at it like this. If I drink the alcohol. There is less alcohol to drink later.
Slica - April 30, 2008
well
the manager is on record as saying if the kids come up they will play, in place of those who are not performing.
eknpdx - April 30, 2008
I don't trust Squinty.
But the playing time might be dictated by the front office on this one.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Everything I've heard backs up what eknpdx says
It sounds like Mac is one of the main forces pushing for the kids to come up and play
ningwers - April 30, 2008
I just don't understand
The DFAing of Norton, a switch-hitting pinch-hitter. A good guy to stash on the bench. Both Vidro and Norton would be good pinch-hitters off the bench.
Should have been Cairo who got the heave-ho (in addition to Wilkerson). Do they really think that if they dump Cairo that Lopez is gonna fall apart?!
fosio - April 30, 2008
I agree, but I don't think it's a huge deal
The run differential between a meh bench bat and a terrible bat with speed and defensive ability is fairly minimal, and Vidro (if he does end up benched) would be an upgrade over Norton. I think.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I hope this keeps Vidro's PA down so his option doesn't kick in.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
What if there's something to this Cairo chap
I think I read it in one of Geoff’s blog, but somebody argued that Cairo might be pushing Yuni and Lopez to be better “behind the scenes.” There has to be some value in that, doesn’t there? Maybe not enough to waste a roster spot, but still…
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
If you want a coach, you hire a coach
You don’t waste a roster spot on him
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Very true
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
Well, I think it's stupid to call both of them up before the 7th.
That said, I hope Wlad and Clement kick ass.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
didn't somebody say
that they can send them down for 10 days at any time, and still get the extra year? Would seem like an easy thing to do.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I believe someone countered that that if they go back down it has to be for 20 days
ningwers - April 30, 2008
At least 20 days, that is
ningwers - April 30, 2008
Yeah, you can't just send them down for a day here and a day there.
There’s a minimum amount of time they have to stay in the minors after being sent down.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Sounds right
ningwers - April 30, 2008
And that minimum is 10 days
Barring subsequent injury to another player, whereas they could call said player up again.
PositivePaul - April 30, 2008
What about DL time?
What happens if Clement mysteriously winds up on the 15-day DL during interleague play?
BrianL - April 30, 2008
He'd still be on the roster
from my understanding they’d have to actually send him back down to stop the clock.
And someone (Corco, I think) pointed out that if they do that, they’re just asking for a MLBPA grievance to be filed
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Correct on both counts I believe.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
they're only hope
is to do it at some point this year because it will be impossible once he’s established.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Well
here’s to hoping that they perform well and can be inked to a long-term deal before FA kicks in.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
GAH!!
I’m going to get Graham stab happy soon
Matthew - April 30, 2008
They're?
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
I'm rushed today
Matthew - April 30, 2008
congratulations
you now type like I do
JI - April 30, 2008
I don't think
it’s a typing problem…
ralphie81 - April 30, 2008
Well, if the Mariners are out of contention early anytime
in the next few years, they could send them down then.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I don't think it really matters either way.
Their last arby years probably won’t come into play anyway.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Here's the deal
If you wait 10 days, their first arbitration year is 2012. If you don’t it’s 2011
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
If they play well, the FO will buy out those years anyway.
Bavasi already said he doesn’t care about the issue.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
makes sense
I think there’s enough evidence to suggest this team is not cheap anymore.
eknpdx - April 30, 2008
Well it's not like this team won't be able to sign them once the time arrives.
Goose - April 30, 2008
It's a roster efficiency thing
They are at their most valuable pre-arbitration, because it frees up the budget for other signings. Saying you don’t care how much they cost just because we can afford to resign them is like saying the Silva contract was fine because he’s a decent pitcher.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
If they don't give a shit about using Clement at catcher
why would they care about this?
JI - April 30, 2008
And we are therefore fine with it because the team doesn't care?
The only thing I can think of is that calling them up early might help increase the likelihood of them signing long term contracts with the M’s into their free agency years, and I’m not convinced that loyalty can be bought that easily.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
No, I think it's retarded
and we should point out that it’s retarded.
But, I’ve been a Mariner fan for +/- 17 years, and I honestly can’t become angry over their subtle stupid bullshit anymore. It’s only things like the Vidro for Sneliing, or Soriano for Rmairez that can really get be angry.
JI - April 30, 2008
I'm not angry about it
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
also, typos
JI - April 30, 2008
It could also be that Bavasi really wanted to be in contention this year
maybe he’s worried those 10 days could make a big difference. It’s still a bad decision, but there’d be some justification for it.
TheOptimist - April 30, 2008
As far as things to be pissed off over
this ranks pretty low. I still think it’s stupid, but it’s better than trading Wlad/Clement for Griffey.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
can still happen
Don’t jinx it. For all you know this is just a showcase.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I didn't say it, Bavasi did.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I know, I was responding to Goose
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
My bad.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Our bench possible bench would be
Burke
Ballgame
Cairo / Tuglett/ anyone with a pulse who can be a MIDIF
Wilk
Reed
I can see why Norton was let go, but Vidro is even more useless.
JI - April 30, 2008
I think Vidro is a better bench bat than Norton.
Edgar for Pres - April 30, 2008
I don't
and I would DFA both of htem
JI - April 30, 2008
Lets all remember
Norton is not a good player. Lifetime OPS+ of 93 plus he’s old plus he can’t play defense. His one saving grace is he’s a LHB. He has no value.
Cairo is a total waste of a roster spot but Norton is basically worthless and you shouldn’t be sad to see him go.
Edgar for Pres - April 30, 2008
But he was hitting over .400!!!
hcoguy - April 30, 2008
Listen to this man
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
There are free firstbasemen everywhere
how this team can have such a huge a hole at 1B/DH is inconceivable . This may be the most telling sign of their incompetence.
JI - April 30, 2008
Wow.
And I was going to play GTA IV tonight. Guess my plans have changed.
Phil Hatzenbuehler - April 30, 2008
five bucks says clement goes yard
InSpokane - April 30, 2008
That's a bet I wouldn't mind losing
ningwers - April 30, 2008
against Cliff Lee
I mean, regression to the mean and all, but if you’re picking one pitcher to bet on not giving up a HR tonight…
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I saw the numbers. I'd still put money down.
InSpokane - April 30, 2008
Am I the only one who thinks DFAing Wilk instead of Vidro is dumb?
or should they DFA Norton, Wilk, and Vidro and call up Reed too.
JI - April 30, 2008
my two cents (not researched)
Vidro has more of a track record for high AVG than Wilk. Late in the game, RISP, close score, if I’m going to the bench for a PH, I’m looking for some AVG.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
but Wilk's better
their both finished but Wilk can draw walkls, has more defensive value
JI - April 30, 2008
well look at it this way, I bet the M's spent a fortune on hotdogs they need someone to eat them
Seriously though, I trust Vidro’s bat in a pitch hit siltation over Wilkerson’s. I know the numbers do reflect it, but that what my gut says.
InSpokane - April 30, 2008
Crossing enemy lines here,
Rangers fan. Balentien seems like a good prospect what are the expectations for him in the majors? .280 20+hrs or what?
sprite - April 30, 2008
This year?
Something like .260/.315/.420 ~15HR is my guess.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
This year?
That’s pretty optimistic. I know Dave Cameron expects Safeco to eat him alive.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Dave did not see Wlad's homer in person last year.
Wlad has enough power to hit well at Safeco. Plate discipline and pitch recognition are what we need to worry about.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
This argument has never made any sense
No matter how much power you have, you’re still going to hit balls to Safeco’s warning tracks which would have gone out of another park. How many times have you seen this happen to Beltre? The man possesses some of the greatest raw power in the majors and the park still hurts him badly.
Wlad is capable of hitting the ball out of Safeco. The park is still a really bad fit for him.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
agreed and rec'd
JI - April 30, 2008
At least he only plays half his games there. And he does have enough power that Safeco won't kill hi completely.
When he hits one out, it STAYS out.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I agree, but I'm not sure we'll see it manifests until he adjusts to ML quality pitching
I think he’ll struggle in the early going and then catch fire later. Clement is a better bet to be fairly steady, and Safeco will of course have the opposite effect on his power.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I understand your point just fine.
However, what I am saying is that Safeco will not ruin him. He has as much if not more raw power than Beltre. Is it the park best suited to his skillset? No, not at all.
I am just tired of comments like “Safeco will eat him alive.” It is just not true. Safeco eats players alive who have middling power to begin with and hurts players who have good power.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
Safeco eats Adrian Beltre alive
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Ok Graham
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
Graham isn't kidding.
Safeco Field has really masked Beltre’s ability. The fact that he’s putting up the numbers he is right now is nothing short of astounding.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I know he isn't kidding. Just not worth arguing.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
You don't have to take me seriously of course
You just should, because I am right.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I take you plenty serious Graham
It is just one of those things. I’ve seen close to 350 games at Safeco so I know all too well how it affects hitters. I think it is overblown that is all.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
ask Mike Cameron, see what he thinks
JI - April 30, 2008
Wasn't some of his issue with the "batters eye" though?
I’m not saying Safeco doesn’t kill hitters (righties), but I think Cameron had other issues as well.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
It got into Cameron's head
His approach home/away was really different, which is part of the reason he had so much trouble.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Facts say otherwise
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
No one's saying there won't be an impact
I think Sec’s right that it won’t get into his head the way it did Cameron.
Safeco itself didn’t kill Cameron’s home performance. The version of Safeco in Cammy’s head killed Cammy’s home performance.
marc w - April 30, 2008
Fair enough
Confusing way to put it, though.
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
Sorry, my wife stopped listening
To me years ago because she says I explain myself in a strange way.
I’m not up in arms about it at all. Safeco plays like 6 different parks depending on weather, roof position, where the sun is at and wind.
I just get tired of people blaming poor hitting on the stadium.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
It's not 100% the stadium
but it’s nowhere near 0% either.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Agreed, I do accept it has an effect
It just feels like all the pissing and moaning the first few years got into players heads. Good hitters can hit anywhere.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
I was thinking about the weather effects a couple days ago.
It seems there is a big difference between day and night games as well as the spring/fall vs. summer games. Has anyone done a study about this? I tried searching LL and Google, but I failed to find anything.
Jed MC - April 30, 2008
It's a pretty universal effect though
save for Domes, and it’s also a pretty constant effect year-to-year so I’m not sure there’s much point in extracting it out.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
That's fine
but the effect isn’t binary either.
Like Sec 108, I just hate the ‘oh, he’s a righty, he’d suck here.’ Sure, some righties are going to be eaten alive. But I would still love the M’s to pick up Albert Pujols.
Yes, there’s an effect, but it doesn’t simply annihilate every batter. That’s all.
marc w - April 30, 2008
Or Guerrero...
PositivePaul - April 30, 2008
Sorry, bit confused
I was saying it’s a league-wide effect common to all stadia. I wasn’t saying anything about SafeCo.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Ah....
I’ll just back away, and pretend this never happened.
uh, this would never have happened before the change to the SBN template!
marc w - April 30, 2008
In terms of raw power
Wlad>>>>>>Cameron
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
Also true.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
So then Safeco will hurt Wlad, but it will not murder him
if that is your point then I agree with you.
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
I think that was his point exactly.
And I agree as well.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Woohoo! Agreement!
Duvels for everyone!
marc w - April 30, 2008
Yay
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
You buyin?
I’m in!
PositivePaul - April 30, 2008
You got it, buddy
If you’re going to any Rainiers games this week, I’ll get you one.
marc w - April 30, 2008
That was my point
And I apologize if I came off cranky or unwilling to listen. I am getting murdered at work today and it is making me really punchy.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
ditto!
I was fielding a 30 min long phone call, plus writing a spec, plus editing code while waiting for a database query to finish when this broke. And I got my Sounders ticket selection e-mail at the same time.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
This is LL
if you’re not cranky you’re not trying.
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
Most of the time I am lazy
Therefore not trying and not up to LL snuff.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
You and me both
ningwers - April 30, 2008
More raw power than Beltre?
I don’t know….
Goose - April 30, 2008
Chruchhill is pretty high on him
JI - April 30, 2008
Everyone's high on him now
Man, the M’s blogosphere was down on this guy – hard – for years.
marc w - April 30, 2008
I'm lukewarm
but I also think he’s our best option if we’re going to try to win NOW FUCKING NOW
...(until we trade for Griffey)
JI - April 30, 2008
You seriously think that's a better option?
marc w - April 30, 2008
Its going to happen anyways
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
Touche
I guess it all depends on how fast Wlad/Clement get out of the gate.
marc w - April 30, 2008
for 2008
assuming that it’s A) it’s inevitable, and B) we’re not trading anyone we’ll miss
yeah
JI - April 30, 2008
I'd pull a Feierabend for Griffey trade in a heartbeat.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
only if his deal is restructured
if not, trading for Griffey is a really really stupid move.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Good point.
If next year’s option doesn’t kick in and they restructure I’d trade Feierabend.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I assumed this was implied
they’d have to buy out the option year and extend his deal.
JI - April 30, 2008
I think I said this yesterday
and Frosty Raptors made fun of me.
Sad…
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Plus, I know it's bad baseball
but part of me really wants to see Griffey back for a victory lap.
JI - April 30, 2008
I wanted to see him next year
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I can take both
assuming Vidro is the alternative
Plus, most anything that makes Raul less important from a PR angle is A-Ok by me.
JI - April 30, 2008
but isn't the alternative now Jeff Clement?
fucking Johjima extension.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
[smurf]
I think he’s RF material now.
JI - April 30, 2008
Griffey I assume you mean?
So then the alternative is Wlad.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
I'm probably way off
but right now Griffey = Wlad
and Wlad would be better off at AAA
but for next year? If McLaren could rotate his players like, say, Tony LaRussa, I don’t think there’d be a problem: Griffey and Raul need their days off. But, McLaren is our manager, so it is a problem.
(Also, if WLAD doesn’t hit MLB pitching out of the gate I’m afraid he’ll be dealt for Brian Fuentes).
JI - April 30, 2008
for next year, I'm still stubbornly saying
Griff at DH.
Johjima can go away.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
and we can deal Washburn and Silva
...
JI - April 30, 2008
for Lincecum?
Lincecum is #2 in MLB in K’s right now (behind Felix). If the Ms weren’t retarded we’d have the two best strikeout starters in baseball, plus Bedard, who’s probably the third.
grrr
>:(
>:(
>:(
>:(
>:(
Matthew - April 30, 2008
The one time we don't take the local guy!
JI - April 30, 2008
>:(
Matthew - April 30, 2008
This year, next year.. I just wanted to see a victory lap.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I'll agree with Matthew above
(I completely blanked on that gigantic option for next season)
Grab him in FA. Grab Teix too.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I'm really OK with trading for Junior
as long as we find a way to end up paying him ~$6-8M and not $16M next season
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
any contract he signs would start at the $16m mark in overall value
I’d assume
JI - April 30, 2008
Some scouts say his ceiling Carlos Lee / Magglio Ordonez
JI - April 30, 2008
I'd be pretty damn happy with that.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
For rangers context
worst case scenario, Nelson Cruz.
Best case scenario, Carlos Lee/Magglio
middle-case… I dunno… Daryle Ward (2000-2003)?
marc w - April 30, 2008
Actually...
Detecto’s comp of Buhner makes a decent amount of sense.
PositivePaul - April 30, 2008
Buhner was better than Lee
and probably had similar overall value comparable to Ordonez’s
JI - April 30, 2008
Maybe
I don’t think Buhner was ever as athletic (read: fast) as Wlad. Buhner was way better at making contact in the minors than Wlad, and was certainly more of a complete hitter (though Wlad’s ability to hit for average may surprise some).
Lee is a decent comp considering patience and all, but he didn’t strike out like Wlad.
One comp I liked before Wlad improved his pitch recognition – Jesse Barfield.
marc w - April 30, 2008
WAIT A FUCKING WEEK!! MOTHERFUCKERS!!
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
I think the next move needs to be Reed for Cairo
Isn’t Jeremey Reed a much better option for the 4th OF than Bloomquist?
arbeck77 - April 30, 2008
Reed is significantly better than Willie.
Reed = average CF, which translates into above-average corner-OF.
Willie = meh corner-CF.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I played OF like WFB in softball last night.
Bad jumps, horrible routes, diving and missing. It was pathetic. Worst defensive game I’ve ever played. But I did hit better than Willie at least (4-4, two doubles from the leadoff slot).
Thingray - April 30, 2008
So, don't we have to do it?
Or at the worst drop a pitcher and call Reed up? 12 man staff is stupid.
arbeck77 - April 30, 2008
You'd think we'd have to call up someone who can actually play OF.
However this is the Mariners FO we’re talking about.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Can anyone really be that dumb?
I mean it seems so simple.
arbeck77 - April 30, 2008
This is the team that has both
Willie Bloomquist and Miguel Cairo on the bench.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
We just did.
marc w - April 30, 2008
Sorry
I meant a bench player who can play OF.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Wlad batting 7th tonight?
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
That's the current rumor.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I finally feel interested in watching games again..sweeeeet
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
This seriously fucks up my plans for this evening.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I have a stochastic biochemistry exam at 1AM PST tomorrow.
I may just have to miss this game :(
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Man, that's a really late exam
I don’t think I’ve ever been at school past about 9:30 PM.
Fin - April 30, 2008
1AM PST is 9AM my time
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I see
Where do you live, England right?
Fin - April 30, 2008
Yes
Although I’m moving to Seattle in July.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Welcome in advance.
And if you didn’t already know, the traffic sucks.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Ugh.
I make a commute from Everett to Seattle and back Monday through Friday.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Ewww
I used to have to drive from Bothell to Bellevue for school and work. Now I can walk to work since it is next door to the apartments I live in. And I transferred to a closer community college, so I don’t have to deal with the traffic as much.
Fin - April 30, 2008
This makes my old Everett to Bothell work commute look easy.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I probably see you on the freeway.
I go from Everett to Shoreline and back each day.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Well now I can just walk to work
Since work is next door to home, so I am truly lucky. I hated driving down 405 almost everyday, with all the unpredictable traffic on it. It must be the same going from Everett to Seattle.
Fin - April 30, 2008
Haha
There speaks a man who’s never commuted in the UK!
On a vacation last April I stayed with a friend in Auburn and she commuted to Seattle Centre by car. It was bad, but not a patch on some places round here. Graham will, of course, be well acquainted with Cambridge’s evil one-way system.
MarkE - April 30, 2008
You are correct sir.
I have never enjoyed traffic overseas. I just know it sucks here.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Well, yes, but I don't drive here, I just walk everywhere
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
I just need to say this
I know many one-way systems in the UK suck, and the m25 can get bad, and A roads just stop if there’s an accident… but:
I would kill to implement the English system of spacing the exits on the freeways. So much of our traffic is because people are merging on and off every 500 f#$!ing meters. Why? One exit per 5 miles. That’s it.
marc w - April 30, 2008
just clogs the arterial streets with traffic
Matthew - April 30, 2008
that being said
yes, a huge problem with I-5 traffic is caused by people merging
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Have better arterial streets
Still costs less than interstates.
I love going to seattle via the 599/99.
We have so many exits because businesses and neighborhoods demand them. The system isn’t designed for drivers, it’s designed for different interests. That’s the issue.
marc w - April 30, 2008
What a wonderful thing subways and a decent commuter rail system are.
I loved not having a car for 7 years.
Jed MC - April 30, 2008
I'd fork over a ton of my income to have a subway system in this city
Matthew - April 30, 2008
If I could be sure it wouldn't simply be a
quality-of-life enhancements for wealthy people in belltown or to downtown developers, yeah.
The costs are so daunting to make a system that’s got enough reach to make it worthwhile (or equitable), but hey, they’re only going up. It’ll be worse next year!
marc w - April 30, 2008
I'm talking about a real subway system,
like NY or Boston (I’m sure there are plenty others, but I’m not that well traveled). It would cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$, but it would be worth every last penny. The quality of life of living in a city without having to buy a car and everything that goes along with it is fantastic.
Jed MC - April 30, 2008
we might as well talk about what moves the Ms should make
equal probability they actually happen.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Very nice
Seattle is awesome. The weather in England and Seattle I think are very similar, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I am sure you’ve been here before.
Fin - April 30, 2008
I did live in Redmond for like 7 years before going back to England for school
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Where'd you live in Redmond?
ningwers - April 30, 2008
Union Hill
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
That's cool
My brother lives over there now. We grew up in north Rose Hill.
ningwers - April 30, 2008
They are really taking the RTC apart
What part of Seattle to you plan on living in Graham?
Fin - April 30, 2008
No idea
I’m waiting until after my degree’s done to sort out jobs, and I want to live within walking distance of work.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
It's a beautiful thing :D
I just started working at this place right next door to my apartments. Not only will you get the extra exercise, but you don’t have to drive and waste gas.
Fin - April 30, 2008
Here here
I bike 2 miles to work every day, and living in SoCal where its ~$4 a gallon for gas this makes my expenses much lower. I spent less on gas last MONTH than most of my coworkers spend in a week.
bluemax - April 30, 2008
I got gas last week
for the first time in a month – I bike to work too. Annoyingly, my wife’s car requires premium fuel, so I had the unique pleasure of paying $4 a gallon for the first time. I love my bicycle.
pdb - April 30, 2008
$4 a gallon IS a pleasure
It’s just hit $10 a gallon in the UK :-(
Alex B - April 30, 2008
yeah but $10
is like 50p now, isn’t it?
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
£5 sadly
Alex B - April 30, 2008
Yeah, I've paid for my share of gas over there
and I certainly don’t envy the English gas price.
pdb - April 30, 2008
Must be a nice rig.
Not many cars these days still require premium, although some say it is recommended for the “best” performance.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
2004 16V Turbo Jetta
not exactly the BMW M3 that i want, but it’ll do. As long as it’s under warranty, we have to use premium, because the way the warranty is worded it appears that if they can prove non-prem fuel caused an engine problem it’ll void the warranty. So, two more years of this and it’s back to normal gas.
I’m beginning to rue the agreement we made when we moved in together that said she’d pay the insurance and I’d pay the gas.
pdb - April 30, 2008
Warranties piss me off sometimes.
It’s like my friends “Trail Rated” Jeep that has a warranty that is voided if you take the vehicle off-road.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
That's astounding.
pdb - April 30, 2008
I bet Mr. Burns' lawyers wrote that "warranty".
Jed MC - April 30, 2008
Get class action guy on the case
Alex B - April 30, 2008
I'm on it!
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
He has been sorely underused this year.
Goose - April 30, 2008
Whilst he's in the house
Let’s get him on those Sexson and Vidro contracts. I don’t think he’ll find any trouble getting enough people to put together the class action.
Alex B - April 30, 2008
It makes it well worth it to pay to have it fully detailed prior to taking it into the shop for warranty work.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I was going to watch playoff basketball
(I’m such a sucker for watching Lebron play…I can’t help it) But this definitely makes me want to watch intently. It was like when they all got called up last year…I absolutely loved watching games at the end of the year.
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
So since the dream of Clement the catcher is all but over
Would we be better off with Clement at first and Richie at DH? Would Clement be better defensively than Sexson despite the inexperience?
Goose - April 30, 2008
No.
Clement =/= 1B.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
also DH's must hit
InSpokane - April 30, 2008
Not if your DH is your pitcher who is at 3B.
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
Sean Green.
Fin - April 30, 2008
The rules changed again due to the moon cycle
now it has to be a soft tossing lefty who has tried to pick Griffey off too many times
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
no
Matthew - April 30, 2008
I doubt it
He has zero experience at first, if memory serves, and you just can’t switch him mid-season in the majors.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Mike Piazza says hello.
Wait, he sucked at 1b and at catcher. Never mind.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Piazza did not suck at catcher
JI - April 30, 2008
His glove was okay, but he couldbarely throw anyone out.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
that does not equal suck though
and he could actually handle knuckleball pitchers, unless another GG winner I can think of.
JI - April 30, 2008
Three hoppers to second base = sucks
I’m wasn’t a Piazza fan….
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Remember the 2001 AS game
where he tried to nail Ichiro? Hilarious.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I'm wasn't retarded either.... Learn how to type Thingray...
Thingray - April 30, 2008
Late career Piazza cost his team many a runs
with his no-strength arm.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Late career Griffey cost many a runs with his glove
doesn’t mean he didn’t suck at one point
JI - April 30, 2008
and, tyops
JI - April 30, 2008
Please tell me "tyops" was intentional...
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
it... was...
(shifts eyes)
JI - April 30, 2008
I believe you!
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
what?
I think you have one too many (or few) negatives in that sentence.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
I need an editor.
JI - April 30, 2008
Help me out here...
My memory may be vague, but I don’t ever recall Piazza being any more than “decent” with the glove, and he always sucked at throwing guys out.
Decent + suck = bad defensive catcher.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
My opinion
Piazza didn’t suck in his prime, but around 2001-02 things went sorrily downhill. Someone who has actually researched this can feel free to chime in.
JI - April 30, 2008
Here's to hoping Clement rakes...
So Vidro’s option doesn’t vest and Armstrong/Lincoln/Bavasi aren’t able to sacrifice Aumont or Triunfel for a trip down memory lane.
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
Why is Clement up today if he's not starting today?
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
No fucking idea.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Potential pinch hitter?
Wilkerson and Norton were jettisoned as chaff…
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
Vidro hits 2 2B's and has raked LHP this year. It's stupid reasoning, but it's gotta be what the M's are thinking.
BrettJMiller - April 30, 2008
Yes but for God's sake just LEAVE HIM IN TACOMA if he's not starting
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
Special offer on bus tickets?
Maybe it was “buy one get on free” on the Tacoma to Cleveland greyhound. After all, we need to save the bucks to pay for Cairo’s $850k…
Alex B - April 30, 2008
But not for the $3M we just burned on Wilkerson :(
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
At least they recognized that 3M
was invested into a lost cause and terminated the contract as a result.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Yup, and now the $6M man is a PH like he should be
only $850K of sunk costs left on the roster :)
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
True, Wilk is more money down the drain
I was just feeling particularly vengeful against Cairo at the time of posting. At least Wilk gave us some cheap laughs with his squirrel impression.
Actually, make that not so cheap laughs.
Alex B - April 30, 2008
Hey, I did say "It's stupid reasoning"
BrettJMiller - April 30, 2008
becuase Mclaren is an ass bag
InSpokane - April 30, 2008
They probably want to give him a day or two to get to know the pitchers, and maybe go over some game plans.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I don't think Clement is going to be catching.
Jamie Burke still on the roster. If Clement was to be behind the dish, Burke would have been jettisoned instead of Norton.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
What's going to be HILARIOUS is if somehow Clement doesn't play until May 7th
like he sprains a wrist or something and we lose a year of service time for zero baseball gain
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
Shutupshutupshutup!
BrianL - April 30, 2008
I already called that!
JI - April 30, 2008
And so it begins.
Goose - April 30, 2008
Why to the Mariners do any of the crazy shit they do?
and… lefty?
JI - April 30, 2008
Sends a message...
Play crappy and you’ll get replaced.
saltydog75 - April 30, 2008
9th inning defensive replacement for Raul
Scary thing is I’m only half-joking.
Alex B - April 30, 2008
I'm not surprised he's not starting today
Lefty on the hill
dnc - April 30, 2008
That's why Wilk was dfa'd not Vidro
becasue a lefty is up today, and Wilk cannot hit lefties
LantermanC - April 30, 2008
Reverse splits?!?
Johnny Mac thinks that’s sheer folly, and you should too.
Frosty Raptor - April 30, 2008
I never understood why the Mariners never cared to check his splits
I am mean we all know they aren’t very smart, but this is something any professional club should be able to figure out. Maybe they just assumed that since he is lefty, he can’t hit lefties. Stupid reasoning, but this is the M’s we’re dealing with. Some other club may give Wilkerson a shot, and may actually be smart enough to bat him against lefties, so he might have more success elsewhere.
Fin - April 30, 2008
We have to root HARD against Turbo
A good game tonight after his nice showing last night and McLaren will thing he’s “snapped out of his slump”.
dnc - April 30, 2008
I'm always torn when he drives in runs.
I’m happy for the M’s, but pissed off that he had success.
Thingray - April 30, 2008
I'm gonna have trouble with this. I could really use the M's help tonight against Cliff Lee. :P
TheOptimist - April 30, 2008
then maybe they send Clement back down for a little while.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
Safeco scoreboard when Wlad hits HR....
SUPERWLAD!

JI then sternly frowns at kent, and points him back to the computer, to continue his life of eAbstinence.

I’m a Mariner fan…not a douchebag.
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008

nothing on you in particular.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
I'm kidding
and basements aren’t as prevalent up here.
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
up where, Washington?
I live here in Seattle now, and I have to say, I never saw a basement in southern CA, but I’ve encountered a few up here.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
Yeah, up here, Washington
I guess part of me is coming from being on the east coast as a kid a lot…everyone has basements there.
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
Uh, most people have basements here
Where do you live now?
I would never, ever buy a house w/o a basement. That filter didn’t exactly cross too many properties off my list however.
My basement is easily my favorite room in the house. I will trade natural light for a fortified bunker where I can play my records REALLY loud and watch baseball every time.
marc w - April 30, 2008
but we had Chemistry!
kentroyals5 - April 30, 2008
Wlad to the Bone
I guess you can just make any sort of “Bad” reference
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
Ehh...
BrianL - April 30, 2008
WTF?
With 200 comments, I’m probably late to the party, but how dumb is this? Wilkerson goes 3-3 with a walk and then gets cut? Look, I know they made the decision pregame by Wlkerson, but give me a break. One more week isn’t going to kill them. If they plan on sending both down for an extra week in the future, then maybe I understand it… but why now? I don’t get it. I don’t get it.l
evanatmvn - April 30, 2008
"Wilkerson goes 3-3 with a walk and then gets cut?"
His performance in his last game is irrelevant. This move obviously was decided on before today anyway.
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2008
It IS a little mystifying that they bothered to bring Wilkerson on the road trip, though
since they were just at home, brought him to Cleveland for one game then cut him
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
That's the part that struck me as odd.
Usually they make these moves when they are home, so they just clean out their locker and go….
Thingray - April 30, 2008

I’m not a huge Rush fan, but I feel the need to defend them.
JI - April 30, 2008

it’s usefulness will have been served.
JI - April 30, 2008
I'm halfway surprised
they’re not getting back together for the Sub Pop anniversary show, actually.
pdb - April 30, 2008

Matt is getting ready to go on tour, none of them feel like reuniting (although Matt has worked with all three member since their breakup)
JI - April 30, 2008
I didn't mind it so much
I still don’t necessarily love the idea of a museum dedicated to rock and roll, but that said, there were a few interesting things at the HOF, and I’m glad i went. Not in a hurry to go back (to Cleveland or the HOF), but if you have an afternoon to kill in Cleveland it’s better to go to the HOF than to spend the whole afternoon punching yourself in the face.

Pretty much

Tangentially, the EMP is pretty cool.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
I went to EMP a few years back
Thought it was pretty cool. Might be worth another trip on those free Thursdays or with a two-fer admission coupon or something.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
EMP is cool
but goddamn expensive.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
it's not TOO bad anymore
if I recall, it’s $15 for EMP and the SciFi museum
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008
that should imply $15 gets you into both.
Eyebrows - April 30, 2008

I’ve been twice but never paid.
Matthew - April 30, 2008
yep $15 for both is right

EMP was cooler when it opened
they did a series of Wednesday night movies that were really cool – The Fabulous Stains, The TAMI Show, and a few others that never see the light of day. Then they had to start laying people off because they weren’t making any money, and now it’s just kinda meh.

I've tried to go there multiple times,
but it’s always closed. What the hell are it’s hours anyway?

Cooperstown was great.
But I did go when I was 16 with my dad on a detour from visiting potential colleges and after spending a few days with my angry senile grandmother.

Best wedding I've ever attended
was at EMP. Great venue for a party/wedding type thing.
I agree – EMP is pretty cool. I’m sort of down on the RNR HOF because I can’t imagine it would have more interesting stuff (subjective, but y’know) than EMP.
I love the Sonics and I haaaate (with fiery passion) Aerosmith. One tourist institution is built for me, and one is not.
marc w - April 30, 2008
RnR HOF is much more comprehensive in scope
it only covers a narrow slice of music, sure (almost no blues, no rap, very little metal), but it’s got a ton more depth than the EMP does; the basement level is crammed full of so much great 60’s/70’s rock stuff you could almost spend an entire visit there, and never see any of the other stuff.
pdb - April 30, 2008
But they have crap like Madonna is there too, don't they?
Thingray - April 30, 2008
How does 'more comprehensive in scope'
go with ‘almost no blues, no rap, very little metal?’
I’m not a huge hip-hop guy, but EMP’s hip-hop section is really, really interesting. I’d much rather see some of that stuff than another wing of 70s rock crap. ‘Better depth’ I can see, or ‘more comprehensive in one arena’ but EMP’s scope is impressive (to the point of overreaching a bit).
I just don’t like big rock bands with stadium shows and albums that sold billions, and famous groupies, etc. etc. I DO love the old proto-electric guitars, Sonics posters, and some other EMP exhibits. It’s probably a personal thing. If I like classic rock, the whole equation would change.
marc w - April 30, 2008
I meant more comprehensive with the stuff they had
I guess I mostly meant it goes a lot deeper. And I tend to agree with you, I’m not crazy about 70’s arena rock, but the RnR HOF does do a really good job of balancing that with some lesser known stuff – they had a lot of Faces stuff, for instance, and their Prince collection is fantastic.
And yes, they have Madonna crap – I’m not a fan, but even as not a fan I realize that Madonna changed the game, and as such deserves the space she gets.

The only thing I could think of was that they were still a little worried about Wlad's knee
but then the 3-HR game served to show them that he’s OK. That would indicate that the decision may have been made a week or two ago with it being “when Wlad’s healthy, Wilk’s gone unless he goes absolutely nuts between now and then”
It very well could have been the case and would seem to indicate some actual thought being put into a roster move by the FO
seattlebruin - April 30, 2008
I hadn't though of that. His knee bruise very well could have thrown a monkey wrench into their plans.

Ichiro should punch Wilk in the face.
Then explain that Cleveland sucks.

so we should wait for him to strikeout three times tonight, then cut him?

O/U 100
Also, Ben Broussard’s replica jersey is more expensive than Felix Hernandez’s. Go figure.

Just thinking
It might be an interesting post to see a little roundtable discussion between Jeff, Graham, Matthew and maybe a USSM guy or two since they are down right now. I want to know who they think is a better bench bat for the Mariners. Vidro, Norton, or Wilkerson? Did they cut the wrong guys?

We don't come here for the excitement
We’re baseball fans. That’s only a step or two away from golf in the grand scheme of things.
But yeah on 2nd thought, we’ve all got better uses of our time than figuring out which washed up player is the best.
Edgar for Pres - April 30, 2008
To answer your question I'll go with Norton
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
I'd probably go with Vidro
But its all pretty close.

Everyone keeps saying it’s down, but I haven’t had any issues with it today or yesterday? Is there some sort of DNS issue?

They had to keep Cairo.
The team signed Cairo with the goal that he be like Willie, but less good.
Everything Cairo has done so far supports their previous impression of him.
If the initial decision was a good one, they can’t reverse it now without contrary evidence.

visiting from LGT
Hey, guys. I caught a bit of the service time discussion on Clement and Balentien and thought I might shed a little light on it.
Your problem with these guys isn’t arbitration, it’s free agency. They both came into the 2008 season with 27 days. There are 183 official days in the season, but the “rollover” point for years of service time is 172 days. You can’t earn more than 172 days in one season, and if you get to 172 days, it’s considered a full year.
Thing is, from today to the end of the season, there are 151 days left, so if either guy stays in the majors from here on in, he’ll end the season with a full year of service time. (And yes, time on the DL does count.) That means he’ll be a free agent after 2013, rather than after 2014.
On the one hand, all they had to do was wait another five days to avoid this, but on the other hand, it only makes a difference if they’re never sent down again. You guys would know better than I would how that’s likely to play out.
As for arbitration, that’s not directly an issue here. Arbitration is generally for three-year guys, but (as many of you probably know) dozens of players who are just under three full years get granted arbitration anyway as “super two” players. As it stands, these guys will hit arbitration after the 2010 season, but the M’s would have to keep them in the minors for another two months in order to push that back.
Jay - April 30, 2008
Yeah it's the free agency thing I really hate
but then Bavasi has different ethical standards than I do.
Jeff Sullivan - April 30, 2008
Wilkerson Doesn't Want to Ride the Bench
Didn’t Wilkerson turn down a bench position with Boston so he could start for the M’s? Letting him go is a classic Bavasi move (a la trading Broussard and releasing HoRam) to allow the player a chance to find an every day spot on another team.
csiems - April 30, 2008
I doubt there will be an everday job for him
HoRam was released cause he sucks ass.
