Dave SIms didn’t even seem to think it was gone and usually Dave Sims goes nuts anytime a ball is hit within 20 feet of the track. Pretty good first start for Wlad. Beats out an infield hit and hits a three run shot.
Yea, no longer as good as it used to be. I watch the episode and I feel like I understand why the tight-assed people get offended by it so easily rather than finding it funny.
It was a pretty skilled. Ran with his back to the ball, and then made a nice turnaround throw to get it back in quickly. Something I don’t see Wilk doing.
Well now I can start caring about this offense outside of Beltre
Granted, Clement and Balentien probably wont hit any higher than 7th, but this’ll still be awesome to watch. With Erik Bedard healthy (I hope), I’m thinking the Mariners could start making up a lot of ground in May.
Wilkerson's range factor numbers in comparsion with the rest of the league were atrocious
I don’t know if four weeks of baseball is too small to be judging these stats and Ichiro Suzuki’s hoarding of outs must be considered, but still…1.15 for Range Factor per 9 against a 2.05 league average? I miss Randy Winn and Mike Cameron, but necessarily in that order.
Not because they will necessarily help the team win now (though we hope they will) but, as fans, we can finally watch players that should be the core of our future. Regardless of this season, we can finally watch players develop, rather than only watching them decline.
I think that becomes of Jones’s defense and running skills, he is still likely to be a better player this year despite his pool April numbers.
Re:Home Runs, I expect Wlad to always have more per season (assuming no monumental collapses from either) but that Jones has a much longer successful career and possibly hit more doubles and triples to make up for hitting less home runs.
This is where I end up usually disagreeing with people
I think Jones has the ability to be a very good defender but I don’t think he’s there yet, I think right now he’s still quite raw defensively and survives on his speed and his arm. Right now I’d guess he’s about average defensively.
I don’t think there’s a whole lot of difference betwen Jones and Wlad on the basepaths…. In there minor league careers in 6 years Wlad was 54sb 18cs Jones was 47/25 in 5 years. I think Wlad gets underrated for some of the things he’s been able to do.
Will that translate to the majors … who knows. This is not a knock on Jones by the way, I just think sometimes Wlad gets underrated because Jones was always more of the focus in the M’s system.
(there’s some evidence that he’s better than that, but the same is way too small), he does still get a boost over Wlad for playing CF instead of RF. The positional adjustment is pretty heavy. Wlad’s going to have to put up some special numbers – or AJ won’t – if he wants to be the more valuable player.
amaze us kenji!
Alaska - April 30, 2008
That HR makes this whole debacle worth it.
John Morgan - April 30, 2008
He amazed me
Didn’t find a way to hit into a double play there.
Wlad’s awesome though.
DKCecil - April 30, 2008
Gee, why could we not have broken camp like this.
PhilKenSebben - April 30, 2008
'Cause then we'd lose a year of arbitration
... oh wait
Kevman22 - April 30, 2008
that is some power
that is the same type of bomb beltre hit last night which shows how much power he has.
niems - April 30, 2008
huh? it was just over the wall?
vkut79 - April 30, 2008
It was also opposite field
which means he got it out of the park without all his bat speed.
Double06 - April 30, 2008
oh god
do we have to pitch again?
PhilKenSebben - April 30, 2008
What's amazing
It looked like he got under it too. That’s one hell of a can of corn.
Gomez - April 30, 2008
It did look like he got under it
Dave SIms didn’t even seem to think it was gone and usually Dave Sims goes nuts anytime a ball is hit within 20 feet of the track. Pretty good first start for Wlad. Beats out an infield hit and hits a three run shot.

hooray for wlad
boo for the rest of the team so far
wadswerth - April 30, 2008
Wlad now has more home runs than Wilkerson was going to hit all year
OlSalty - April 30, 2008
I <3 Wlad.
CapSea - April 30, 2008
He might want to get a compass and find out where the plate is before he complains about what the hitter’s doing!!
I love Joe Magrane

Congratulations on having a real RFer though!

I just watched last sunday's episode
Yea, no longer as good as it used to be. I watch the episode and I feel like I understand why the tight-assed people get offended by it so easily rather than finding it funny.
Fin - April 30, 2008
The problem was that it wasn't funny
and when you cross the line and it’s not amusing I can understand why someone would be upset.
The show used to be good, the cutaways used to be funny, but when you expect shocking cutaways it takes the thunder out.
JI - April 30, 2008
I jumped out of my chair when he hit that bomb, too.
ThundaPC - April 30, 2008
Clement with a hard hit single, WLAD with a 3 run homer
this was the best loss ever!
MFAN - April 30, 2008
Clement's ball was smoked
I don’t think Sizemore thought it would get to him, that’s why he missed it.
Seriously, he hammered a 95 mph fastball right up the middle on his first pitch of the night. Well done.
Not sure I’ll ever get over my Adam Jones crush, but I hope Clement makes me love again…
tait644 - April 30, 2008
I don't care that we lost.
I resign myself to the loss when Washburn or Batitsta pitches.
I watched this game for the hot Wlad-on-ball action, and it did not disappoint.
Faux - April 30, 2008
Per John McLaren
Clement catches tomorrow. Johjima sits.
Vidro will play because of his 8-14 split off Paul Byrd.
ThundaPC - April 30, 2008
Bring it!
I will dream tonight of production from the Catcher position.
Sec 108 - April 30, 2008
How much more/less awesome is Wlad than Brad at defense?
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - April 30, 2008
That first out in the 5th inning.
It was a pretty skilled. Ran with his back to the ball, and then made a nice turnaround throw to get it back in quickly. Something I don’t see Wilk doing.

Couldn't be worse
might be 5-10 better.

runs? If so, tis that +1 in the win column?

If they can manage a league average OPS
which is entirely possible, this will be a better team than it was all of April.
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 30, 2008
they need to

There is no try.

The Alaskan - May 1, 2008
Honestly this is the first time in awhile I felt ~happy after a loss.
If Wlad can go .260/.320/.430 with good D and Clement can go .270/.350/.470 this team may have some hope after all.
Beltre for MVP, Felix for CY
dbroncos31 - April 30, 2008
That home run
made me feel…what is this sensation?
I believe I felt happy.
BrianL - April 30, 2008

Not because they will necessarily help the team win now (though we hope they will) but, as fans, we can finally watch players that should be the core of our future. Regardless of this season, we can finally watch players develop, rather than only watching them decline.
I’m genuinely happy now.
CapSea - April 30, 2008
Good point
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 30, 2008
It's like what happened at the end of 2004
and 2005 – young players coming up and making the team worth watching again. Not a bad loss tonight by any means.
seattlesundevil - April 30, 2008
I agree
WLAD and Clement’s progress in MLB give us something to be interested in, whether or not the team is scuffling.
Gomez - April 30, 2008
God this is going to make Batista's start tomorrow
so much more enjoyable.
BrianL - April 30, 2008
Well, it would take the Spanish Inquisition
to make a Batista start less enjoyable.

So who is going to have More HR's
this year…
Wlad or Adam Jones? They’re currently tied.
MfaninAlaska - April 30, 2008
I probably would have guessed Wlad anyway.
Though Jones would still be a better player.
CapSea - April 30, 2008
he'd be a better player
this year… or thru his career?
MfaninAlaska - April 30, 2008
If we're only talking home runs?
I’d assume for most years, though Jones will still have a longer, more successful career.

Ah, I misunderstood this.
I think that becomes of Jones’s defense and running skills, he is still likely to be a better player this year despite his pool April numbers.

Jones just went deep
.265/.311/.418. Getting better.
Jeff Sullivan - May 1, 2008

That would be neat.
BrianL - May 1, 2008
An outfield of Jones, Balentien and Ichiro...
I literally get shivers.
CapSea - May 1, 2008
And yes, literally.
I was thinking something to say and I experienced a shiver. So I did not use it incorrectly, thank you.
CapSea - May 1, 2008
Too bad you can't "uncheck" images.
I can think of at least… 4 people that do not deserve even a single fan’s vote.
Also, take note of outfielder: J. Reed. Corco, vote him to the all star game now!
CapSea - April 30, 2008
Are you serious?
Even I was a little objective. I voted in friggin Kotchman.

Today: Wlad rock’s, M’s lose = happy
Not saying there’s anything wrong with this. It just strikes me as funny.
PDXTai - April 30, 2008
Vidro Cheesed.

CapSea - April 30, 2008
Tripping balls and being caught tripping balls
