Is that they had this planned already before today, so they use Baek again in back to back games knowing it isn’t a big issue and the results be damned.
We’re no worse off without him, but I do hope he’s able to land somewhere with a team willing to give him an extended look in the rotation. He deserves that chance.
he needs to be starting to have any value, and since he wasn’t about to go back to Tacoma, this is the only option. For two months he’s served no real purpose.
Yknow, with the obvious difference between the leagues
I often wonder why it’s so much harder to put together a good team in the NL… just take a few AL 5th starter throwaways and you’ve got magic in the making!
In 2002 he celebrated the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by allegedly hooking up with a 16-year old girl who worked at the concession stand at Angel Stadium. Washburn was investigated by local authorities in Los Angeles for this incident, which his wife did not enjoy.
As an eight-year Major League veteran who had just completed what he thought was a great season (8 wins), he felt he deserved a lucrative multi-year contract. The Angels, however, were a smart team and were not interested in making such an expensive commitment to a shitty pitcher like Washburn.
Does this include FanPosts too? Because you’ve had popular FanPosts that have been highly Rec’d. But that seems like a different type of Rec. Comment Rec’ing appears to be even more difficult overall.
J-Wash (not to be confused with the awesome Firefly character) can only date girls with an age higher than his ERA * his WHIP. Hope he likes Matlock and Old Country Buffet…
I was going to take the LADIES… picture and put “Little” in front of it on a Washburn picture. Second idea was to paste Washburn’s face onto Pedobear.
But then I found that above picture of Washburn and I just thought… “oh god, this is too easy”. The real clincher was finding that picture of the little girl. I don’t know who she is, but I just want to say that whomever you are, I am sorry that you are forever associated with Jarrod Washburn and pedophilia and I hope that you have a long and rich life free of Jarrod Washburn and pedophilia.
Gives the roster a bit more flexibility. If Washburn continues to suck up the place, Hyphen can enter the rotation and Dickey can take the long-man job. If Tits continues to struggle, Dickey can enter the rotation and Hyphen can take the long-man job.
He goes out of his way to make sure his players are treated right, trading Ben to Texas being the best example.
As much as I despise Bavasi the General Manager, I can’t deny he’s a good person. The team doesn’t get any worse without Baek, and now both him and Dickey have the opportunity to be happy and contribute to ML clubs.
I’m tired of saying that Bavasi was a good guy. Sure he’s made a couple overpaid players happy but he’s making little kids cry every day who have to watch this pathetic team.
I'm not saying that he's a good GM, you're twisting my words.
The point I’m trying to make is that it is possible to be happy for someone.
Baseball aside, Bavasi has taken care of his employees. From an employer/employee viewpoint, he’s a good man to work for. If he was my boss, I’d probably be very happy.
I can’t stand Bavasi the GM, but Bavasi the human being is a pretty nice guy. I’d have a beer with him.
At some point I don’t care how nice of a guy he is. He’s driven this team into the ground. If your boss was really considerate but was causing the company to fall apart would you support him. I bet not.
We don’t play the Royals for about another two months. By then Ho will likely no longer be on the team, so we won’t be subjected to watching him shut us down.
I don’t really totally know what I was saying with this. Maybe its fine we got rid of Baek cause we had gotten rid of these guys too. Our bullpen is already doing fine so its no big loss and I guess I can’t really be complaining. Just interesting.
Oh Matt Thorton is also kinda good somehow it appears. I didn’t want to believe it at first but it might be true.
but a cleaner .gif of Raul’s attempted dive (immediately following Thames’ grand slam) would be clutch. It’d be nice to have an assortment of Raul defensive .gif’s for our own amusement.
I swear, the seattlemariners.com forums are rife with people who want to defend Ibanez’s defense. I wish I could post pictures there so I could remind them of EVERY MOTHER FUCKING SHITTY PLAY he makes.
Not about Raul, but after this disastrous season, they’re at least willing to accept that some of the warnings I’d been preaching about weren’t all hooey.
It’s been slow and painful, but winning over the moronic masses is starting to bear fruit.
Only thing I can think of
Is that they had this planned already before today, so they use Baek again in back to back games knowing it isn’t a big issue and the results be damned.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008
He pretty clearly didn't have a role on this team
We’re no worse off without him, but I do hope he’s able to land somewhere with a team willing to give him an extended look in the rotation. He deserves that chance.
Jeff Sullivan - May 21, 2008
I agree but not
I didn’t have a problem hanging onto Baek, but with the 7 man bullpen we’re obsessed with keeping around, he was virtually pointless.
I agree that he should have all the chances in the world with someone else. Christ if Kyle Lohse can find work, Baek can.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008
Baek just isn't a bullpen guy
he needs to be starting to have any value, and since he wasn’t about to go back to Tacoma, this is the only option. For two months he’s served no real purpose.
Decent dude, wrong team.
Jeff Sullivan - May 21, 2008
He's an NL pitcher anyway
Take away the DH, and his crap will work okay enough for 5-6 innings a night.

But you don’t really need to convince me this team is run by morons. Sidney Ponson found work somehow, Baek will be in someone’s employ.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008
Speaking of Ponson, he threw a complete game today (1ER, 1BB, 5SO)
Yikes….

I’m guessing somewhere DMZ has Ponson under a magnifying glass.

Washburn makes me angry
I’m considering inviting him to the USSM/LL event in June so that I can throw him through a window.
davidcameron - May 21, 2008
I think it would be a little more poetic to throw him under a moving bus, personally.
BrianL - May 21, 2008
He should make you angry.
Not only is he a jackass for all the reasons you and Derek have posted on USSM lately, but he’s also a huge symptom of the larger problem.
Jarrod Washburn represents everything we hate about the Mariners.
Oh God… I need to do a Washburn Sith Lord shop.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008

Only difference is instead of drug abuse, Washburn is a pedophile.

Jeff Sullivan - May 21, 2008
I know
I don’t really totally know what I was saying with this.
Edgar for Pres - May 21, 2008
Yeah Thornton kind of pisses me off
Jeff Sullivan - May 21, 2008
We saw him yesterday.
..Leave the mound.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008
Cruceta that is.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 21, 2008
By the way, here's a really low-quality .gif
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
My Raul gif was fucking awesome, but I couldn't host it without shrinking it down to a fourth of that
JI - May 22, 2008
I don't have video-grabbing capability
but a cleaner .gif of Raul’s attempted dive (immediately following Thames’ grand slam) would be clutch. It’d be nice to have an assortment of Raul defensive .gif’s for our own amusement.
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
I fanshotted the video that used to make said gif.
JI - May 22, 2008
*I
JI - May 22, 2008
But how did you get that clip?
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
screen recording of the 400 k feed
JI - May 22, 2008
the smaller the area, the better the frame rate I guess
JI - May 22, 2008
With a free program or a pay program?
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
shareware
it’s a giant pain in the ass, but it works
JI - May 22, 2008
and clearly you have bought the wrong jersey
JI - May 22, 2008
Oh God I would love to own one of those
(I only got a Rays shirt, not a jersey. Jerseys are expensive.)
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
(I figured)
(and I had to customize it too, even though he’s on the team)
JI - May 22, 2008
I think it was this
link
JI - May 22, 2008
I think the ball he dropped against Chicago
would be a nice grab too.
JI - May 22, 2008
My free .gif converter program trial runs out after 30 days
uh oh
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
The amazing photo editor is adequate
for your AVI-->GIF needs.
JI - May 22, 2008
New effort:
I’m going to bed.
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
alright
I mailed the original gif I made to the llhotline. Maybe the SBN pic hosting will do a better job than my freebie one.
JI - May 22, 2008
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
And Win.
Good show mates. Good job JI.
CapSea - May 22, 2008
me likey
JI - May 22, 2008
godammit you're padding you rec lead with my gif
you sly son of a bitch
JI - May 22, 2008
I rec'd you for fairness.
CapSea - May 22, 2008
I should log in with my brother's account and rec my best work.
JI - May 22, 2008
You have a brother on here too????
Coach?
Also, that gif really is sweet. I hope it is worth sidebarring. I can’t stop looking at it.
CapSea - May 22, 2008
I'll get around to addressing the sidebar one of these days
For now, bed.
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
Too late for me
I could watch this thing forever.
JI - May 22, 2008
No, he lurks.
He’s probably made ~5 posts lifetime.
JI - May 22, 2008
not bad
JI - May 22, 2008
E-mailed you some tips about how to find good GIF programs.
BrettJMiller - May 22, 2008
Never understood needing a .gif converter permanently anyway
I just don’t make enough of them to justify it.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 22, 2008
I'll host it on my site
PhilKenSebben - May 22, 2008
Low quality is looooooowwwwww
But it’s still enough.
I swear, the seattlemariners.com forums are rife with people who want to defend Ibanez’s defense. I wish I could post pictures there so I could remind them of EVERY MOTHER FUCKING SHITTY PLAY he makes.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 22, 2008
That would be a wasted effort.
CapSea - May 22, 2008
They're starting to listen, actually
Not about Raul, but after this disastrous season, they’re at least willing to accept that some of the warnings I’d been preaching about weren’t all hooey.
It’s been slow and painful, but winning over the moronic masses is starting to bear fruit.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 22, 2008
See your problem is that you went to the seattlemariners.com forums
BrettJMiller - May 22, 2008
They still have those up?
crap those are worse than the ESPN shithole.
PhilKenSebben - May 22, 2008
Big fish, small pond.
I admit it, it’s an ego thing being one of the few voices of intelligence on there. Seen a couple of other guys amongst the blog-o-sphere on there.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 22, 2008
And Bill Krueger gave "Clean Up the D" a check....(0 errors)
ThundaPC - May 22, 2008
How is the ball going under your glove as you "dive" to catch it not an error?
seattlebruin - May 22, 2008
By that point in the game the play was meaningless
Jeff Sullivan - May 22, 2008
Sympathy
Alex B - May 22, 2008
Was there nobody out there
willing to deal a couple of B and C grade “prospects” for Baek before the season started?
Probably were, no doubt management wasn’t taking offers.
Ike Clanton - May 22, 2008
I'm guessing we'll still get something worthless in return for Baek
Edgar for Pres - May 22, 2008
I'd rather have something worthless
than nothing at all.
In fact, that’s probably why I’m a Mariners fan.
