6/13 Minor League Wrap-Up

Though the M's gifts to their fans come in the form of baseball excrement, the Mariners minor league clubs had a little gift for you on Friday night.  See if you can notice.

On to the wrap-up!

Star-divide

VENEZUELA~!  VSL Mariners 2, VSL Tigers 1
(League:  260/346/360... 3.78 ERA)

Gerardo Esparza:  6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 walks, 6 K (6 GS +1, 0.85 ERA, 31.2 IP, 7/24 BB/K)
Mayckol Guaipe:  2.1 IP, 2 K, wild pitch (10 app, 1.80 ERA, 20 IP, 1 HR, 8/13 BB/K)
Jorge Agudelo:  2-3, double, 2 RBI (329/442/388)
Michael Acevedo:  2-4, K (278/381/400)
Eduardo Garcia:  1-2, double, R, walk

Gerardo Esparza had another impressive start, as the M's got all the offense they needed from a two out Jorge Agudelo RBI double and a bases loaded sac fly RBI from... Jorge Agudelo.  Yeah, great day for Jorge.

Dominican:  The DSLMs had the day off.

A:  They played two in Clinton!

Game 1:  Wisconsin 7, Clinton 5, 8 innings

Nathan Adcock:  7 IP, 5 H, (4 R) 3 ER, walk, 9 K, 3 wild pitches (12 GS +1, 3.54 ERA, 68.2 IP, 3 HR, 27/73 BB/K)
Ryan Moorer:  no outs recorded, 2 H, (1 R) 0 ER, walk (21 app, 3.97 ERA, 22.2 IP, 1 HR, 11/17 BB/K)
Justin Souza:  1 IP, 2 K (22 app, 4.40 ERA, 28.2 IP, 3 HR, 7/30 BB/K)
Maximo Mendez:  1-4, double, R, K (250/346/354)
Juan Diaz:  1-3, double, 2 R, RBI, walk (246/286/308)
Ronald Garth:  2-3, 3 run HR
Gavin Dickey:  1-2, 3 run HR (297/349/426)
Alex Liddi:  1-3, double, 2 K

The T-Rats got their runs in two big innings.  Gavin Dickey hit a 3 run HR in the 3rd, and Ronald Garth's 3 run HR, his 1st of the season, powered a 4 run 8th.

Game 2:  Wisconsin 5, Clinton 3, 7 innings

WIS:  29-34... CLI:  40-24
(League:  248/321/368... 3.59 ERA)

Walter Suriel:  4 IP, 5 H, (3 R) 2 ER, 2 walks, 5 K, wild pitch, 2 hit batters (11 app, 1 GS, 6.00 ERA, 18 IP, 2 HR, 15/19 BB/K)
Travis Mortimore:  2 IP, K (20 app, 0.64 ERA, 28.1 IP, 10/21 BB/K)
Robert Harmon:  1 IP, 1 H, K (17 app, 3 GS, 8.74 ERA, 22.2 IP, 3 HR, 17/23 BB/K)
Edilio Colina:  2-4, double, 2 R, 2 K (306/372/398)
Ronald Garth:  2-3, double, R, K (247/294/348)
Calvin Beamon:  1-3, double, RBI, K (237/307/328)
Alex Liddi:  1-3, R, RBI (222/287/330)
Blake Ochoa:  1-3, solo HR (272/337/391)

Clinton jumped on Walter Suriel (making a rare start thanks to the doubleheader) in the 3rd, but those 3 runs were all that they got.  Blake Ochoa solo homered in the 3rd.  Edilio Colina came home on a wild pitch in the 4th.  Three T-Rats runs in an interesting 6th (in which Clinton manager Mike Micucci got ejected for arguing a dubious field call) gave the T-Rats the lead for good.

A+:  High Desert 5, Lake Elsinore 4
Mavs:  30-38... Lake:  32-36
(League:  267/337/399... 4.42 ERA)

Alfredo Venegas:  4 IP, 3 H, (4 R) 3 ER, 4 walks, K (12 app, 4 GS, 4.60 ERA, 45 IP, 3 HR, 14/46 BB/K)
Austin Bibens-Dirkx:  2 IP, 3 H, wild pitch (20 app, 4.97 ERA, 29 IP, 5 HR, 9/19 BB/K)
Steve Uhlmansiek:  two outs, 1 H (11 app, 0.69 ERA, 13 IP, 1 HR, 8/11 BB/K)

Greg Halman:  1-4, double, R, RBI, K (273/325/581)
Travis Scott:  1-4, R, RBI (260/306/379)
Carlos Peguero:  2-4, 2 doubles, RBI, 2 K (297/321/469)
Jose Yepez:  2-4, solo HR, 2 R (260/314/365)
Jamie McOwen:  2-4, double (243/303/324)

Alfredo Venegas, once again trying to cut it as a starter, struggled after the 3rd and could not record an out in the 5th.  Austin Bibens-Dirkx finished the rocky 5th with a 4-3 deficit, but the Mavs ground out a couple runs in the 7th to take the 5-4 lead for good.  Bryan Harris is rebounding from his rcky start in Hgh A and Aaron Cotter's arm may explode from the workload anyday now.

AA:  West Tenn 12, Chattanooga 4, 8 innings (rain)
WTN:  40-28... CHA:  36-32
(League:  262/341/396... 4.20 ERA)

Roman Martinez:  two outs, K (18 app, 5.48 ERA, 21.1 IP, 1 HR, 12/18 BB/K)
Shawn Kelley:  1 IP, 2 K
Michael Saunders:  3-4, double, 3 R, RBI, walk, K (291/374/481)
Mark Kiger:  2-4, 3 R, RBI, K (214/345/291)
Mike Wilson:  3-5, 3 run HR, 5 RBI (259/346/514)
Johan Limonta:  2-5, RBI, 2 K (321/403/545)
Adam Moore:  2-4, double, R, 2 RBI (308/385/464)
Luis Valbuena:  2-4, double, R, RBI, K (297/371/467)

A dominant Rich Dorman + an explosive DIAMOND JAXX offense = easy win

AAA:  Tacoma 7, Sacramento 6
TAC:  33-34... SAC:  41-27
(League:  274/346/432... 4.70 ERA)

Joe Woerman:  6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER (HR), 4 walks, 7 K, hit batter (8 GS +5, 8.93 ERA, 40.1 IP, 4 HR, 41/31 BB/K)
Tracy Thorpe:  1.2 IP, 2 H, walk, 3 K (8 app, 7.71 ERA, 9.1 IP, 3 HR, 6/9 BB/K)
Jared Baek Bait Wells:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, walk, 2 K (26 app, 5.27 ERA, 27.1 IP, 1 HR, 16/25 BB/K)
Tug Hulett:  1-5, RBI, 2 K (283/355/433)
Matt Tuiasosopo:  2-3, 2 run HR, 3 R, 2 walks, K (257/344/377)
Jeff Clement:  0-4, 2 R, walk, K (347/468/701)
Victor Diaz:  2-3, 3 run HR, 4 RBI, walk (280/358/551)
Prentice Redman:  2-4, RBI (304/377/493)

This was a game of trading blows.  Victor Diaz hit a 3 run bomb in the 3rd.  Joe Gaetti's 2 run double powered a game-tying 3 run 4th on Joe Woerman, who despite his usual wildness worked 6 innings without serious damage, and struck out 7 to boot.

Down 4-3, Victor Diaz singled in a run and Prentice Redman singled in another to give the Rainiers a 5-4 lead.  In the 9th, Matt Tuiasosopo hit a surprise 2 out, 2 run blast in the 9th to give the Rainiers a 7-4 lead.

The Rainiers did get a scare in the bottom 9th, as Jeff Baisley doubled in a run with one out, and a throw YIKES AND AWAY by Tuglett allowed another to come in... but Baek Bait got two quick outs to end the ballgame.

Tui POWER

Nice to see again.

What's with all of this winning?
Org sweep org sweep la lala la la la

Wait… does it count if the M’s lose? I guess not. Hmm.

Michael Saunders – ready for Tacoma? Yes/No?

I'd give him a trial run down the stretch
Yeah

I’m really curious to see what he can do against AAA pitching. He’s such a weird player, in that he’ll just disappear for months at a time, and then you get periods like this one where he looks like a…prospect.

He was drafted by the M’s all the way back in 2001. Crazy. He’s been doing this on-again, off-again thing (prospect, or tools bust?) for yeeaarrrs. Get him up in Tacoma at least for a few weeks to see if you get more of a sense of how he’ll end up. The team’s going to have to make the call on whether to protect him or not.

Clement 0-4?? I blame bat speed.
Don't forget lack of dirt on his uniform.

I’ll be he didn’t even have the decency to move runners up with his four outs. Pfft.
