Keep in mind that it's very very early. You need to give these things a day or two to see if swelling was hiding anything or the like.
That being said, the word currently is a slight sprain. A negative x-ray and Felix is talking like he won't miss a start. However, the team would be crazy not to skip at least once just to be safe, but for now they are dismissing the need to use the DL as an option.
And as a possible sunny side effect, with Bedard needing to miss a start as well, we could be close to seeing our favorite pitcher with a hyphenated last name get a start.

People that come here to post a version of
“I told you so” concerning our collective reaction during the game threads will have their comments flagged and deleted.
Fair and last warning.
Matthew - June 23, 2008
I endorse this policy.
Teej - June 23, 2008
I support this policy.
Vote Matthew
BrianL - June 23, 2008
I endorse a similar polocy that is slightly diffrent
JI/Robert in 09
JI - June 23, 2008
The spelling was prettier in Matthew's post.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
That is indeed slightly diffrent to the J/M/G policy
Graham MacAree - June 23, 2008
Wait, you're mocking me!
JI - June 24, 2008
I would never do such a thng
Graham MacAree - June 24, 2008
That's good to know.
JI - June 24, 2008
....wait...
JI - June 24, 2008
That makes like 200 warnings for me now
Jesus I’ve never been banned, even for 15 minutes. What gives?
Not that I’m trying to get banned mind you, but nevertheless.
marinator - June 23, 2008
It was still an awesome Felix day
He hit a grand fucking slam, and pitched 4 2/3 of excellent ball. Not a bad day at the office.
marinator - June 23, 2008
Oh fuck yes. So now we can talk about what the good.
GRAND SLAM! FELIX HERNANDEZ HIT A FUCKING GRAND SLAM OFF OF JOHAN SANTANA TODAY!
BrettJMiller - June 23, 2008
I KNOW WASN'T IT FUCKING AMAZING!?
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Since Felix is heatlhy, I can confidentally say that holy shit that was the most amazing part of any game I've seen ever.
BrettJMiller - June 23, 2008
He should get a win for almost pitching 5, but kicking ass. Make a 'King Felix' rule!
kentroyals5 - June 23, 2008
Personally, I've always throught the 5IP by a starter to qualify for a win was a stupid rule.
Just me, though.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Stupid indeed.
Especially considering the guy who comes in after him can go fewer innings and get that same win.
Teej - June 23, 2008
And pitched much, much worse.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
But then again, Wins don't tell anything about how good a pitcher is
So it really doesn’t matter.
Fin - June 23, 2008
Sometimes it's nice to give a pitcher a reward for doing a good job.
Felix pitched well until the ankle turn.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Felix cares about wins
That is important.
Mariner John - June 23, 2008
FIRST PITCH GRAND SLAM HOLY SHIT FELIX IS JESUS
esoteric - June 23, 2008
Felix all smiles in the post-game.
D’aaawwww
BrianL - June 23, 2008
You want to give him a big hug, the wonderful lug.
esoteric - June 23, 2008
Small ray for Jeff:
Possibly move Bedard to Sunday. if not RRS.
Matthew - June 23, 2008
Also acceptable given the circumstances.
Just please no Wash, Silva or Batista. This is the only M’s game I’m going to see this year, and that would really kill my buzz.
Teej - June 23, 2008
It sounds like it's either going to be Bedard or Hyphen.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Sweetness.
Teej - June 23, 2008
Okay, now I'm hearing other things from the FSN crew.
Jeff, you might be seeing Bedard on Sunday.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
I hear a lot of things from the FSN crew
They couldn’t find their own asses if you goosed them.
Gomez - June 23, 2008
I didn't know solid gold could sprain.
lyleleander - June 23, 2008
That is terrific news
Sadly this more than likely means no Felix/Peavy, I think at the very least they’re going to push his start back a few days.
OlSalty - June 23, 2008
Carlos beltran's wife and children
just came out from the cellar, still pretty spooked but very relieved.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 23, 2008
Now is the perfect time to strike
Graham MacAree - June 23, 2008
EnglishMariner is there and surely willing to die gloriously for the cause
OlSalty - June 23, 2008
He better
as a non-American he would be sent to gitmo
JI - June 23, 2008
The end is still near for them
Goose - June 23, 2008
God yes.
Fett42 - June 23, 2008
Even better than Gabriel's Internet Fuckwad theory.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
I'm worried
Felix won’t be good Felix when he comes back.
Scrupio - June 23, 2008
Maybe we'll get lucky and his ankle will only slightly bother him when he throws numerous fastballs in a row.
Matthew - June 23, 2008
Remember when Beltre had ankle problems?
Jeff Sullivan - June 23, 2008
All I remember is that he wasn't stealing bases.
So, nothing’s changed.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Not what I meant
Jeff Sullivan - June 23, 2008
Are you telling me I should curl up in the fetal position and cry myself to sleep?
I have no problem doing that.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
No he's saying you should do the opposite
Robert - June 23, 2008
Yay!
BrianL - June 23, 2008
See 2004
Mariner John - June 23, 2008
Remember that one time Felix hit that first pitch grand slam off of that Cy Young winning pitcher?
That was awesome.
joof - June 23, 2008
I wet myself with glee.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Oh, and by the way, I still hope Carlos Beltran gets Carlos Beltran's Disease
esoteric - June 23, 2008
YES
now, is it genetic or viral?
Bearskin Rugburn - June 23, 2008
So wait,
And as a possible sunny side effect…we could be close to seeing our favorite pitcher with a hyphenated last name get a start.
Austin Bibens-Dirkx is now a starter…?
andrewgolfsalot - June 23, 2008
No, dude
Tommy Johannesen-Ellis.
Gomez - June 23, 2008
Now that we know it isn't that serious
Let’s enjoy the most amazing Mariner moment in recent memory some more.
OlSalty - June 23, 2008
This deserves a smoother GIF. But also did you notice Bedard there jumping around in the dugout?
I THOUGHT HE WASN’T A TEAM PLAYER DOOD??
?
esoteric - June 23, 2008
That, combined with him saying 'hi' to media means.
Bedard’s getting comfortable w/the M’s I guess that means he’ll be traded? Whatever…
MattoB - June 23, 2008
How did Fatty McFatty hurt himself?
Wasn’t watching the game.
Sylar - June 23, 2008
Treading on perilously thin ice here.
But he rushed to cover home on a wild pitch and Beltran (scoring from third) spiked him in his left ankle.
esoteric - June 23, 2008
Fatty? McFatty?
Seriously?
marinator - June 23, 2008
Vidro didn't play this game. I don't know what you're talking about.
joof - June 23, 2008
That was Coach's orginal name for him
Either that or King Fatface
Robert - June 23, 2008
Just rewatched The Slam again. Maybe the best part of it all is the wink Felix gives the camera afterwards.
Goose - June 23, 2008

Yay Felix is happy!
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Haha...
Painkillers are nice.
lyleleander - June 23, 2008
This made my holiday to NYC all the more worthwhile.
That was just so fucking amazing. I just couldn’t stop smirking until the injury. In fact, maybe the injury was a good thing as it saved me from getting punched in the face by Queens finest.
That just totally made my holiday.
Bring on Dickey and Batista! Erm, maybe I’ll get an early flight home…
EnglishMariner - June 23, 2008
Shame to see so few M's fans at Shea.
There seemed to be more Reds fans than Mariners. I didn’t like celebrating such a great moment on my own!
EnglishMariner - June 23, 2008
Did you shank Beltran?
Please tell us you shanked Beltran.

cards fan here
i havent seen the play where felix was hurt yet, but did it seem as bad as pujols taking out the san diego catcher? cause i believe that guy is still out
by the way, all you guys are crazy, (but in a good way, you know baseball crazy) loved reading your posts, i know i would feel the same way if pujols got hurt by another player
bigcardsfan5 - June 23, 2008
As much as the Cardinals are awesome and we appreciate the setiment
We kindy ask you use the shift key.
JI - June 23, 2008
Thanks for covering for me today.
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Sorry about that
It is a Viva El Birdos thing, our leader never uses capital letters, so I don’t either as an homage.
I have now seen that play where Felix was hurt, and from how it looked to me, it was minor compared to the Padres catcher. Hope that may make you guys feel a little better.
Oh, by the way, nice grand slam!!!
bigcardsfan5 - June 23, 2008
I know.

Advice: don't read what other blogs have to say about us
Anyone who doesn’t understand the way we reacted this afternoon is not a good fan of baseball.
Jeff Sullivan - June 23, 2008
Auto refresh is still sucking
also, I am trying to get the wink to play at a slow speed but it is a slow go. I completely expect to be owned.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the intro to Game Thread IV.
Jed MC - June 23, 2008

Jeff Sullivan - June 23, 2008
Which other blogs?
esoteric - June 23, 2008
Who thinks we're crazy? Come on, a vast amount of it was parodic anyway. The whole "all caps all the time, even hours later?"
Come on, these people are humor impaired if they don’t realize we’re all having a blow.

JI - June 23, 2008
I'm embarrassed to part of a network
that has blog with commenters who wouldn’t react emotionally if Albert Pujols went down with an injury.
Their lack of understanding about what sports as an escape is to many people is a negative reflection upon those of us that do empathize with those feelings.
Matthew - June 23, 2008
I think they just don't like swears.
JI - June 23, 2008
Wow those people really and truly don't understand sports
Jeff Sullivan - June 23, 2008
I'm proud of us. Today was like the Lookout Landing of old.
GTE, after being sadly absent, made a glorious glorious return. I was amazingly joyful, blindlingly angry, and I laughed my ass off through it all.
It was a fantastic thread, the likes of which we haven’t had around here in a while.
Thank you Felix. Thank you for reminding me why this places kicks so much ass.
Goose - June 23, 2008
Busted ankle or grand slam
I’m just happy to feel feelings again.
JI - June 23, 2008
Damn straight.
Also, I think I realized that no matter what, the Mariners(or at least Felix) will ALWAYS been #1 in my heart.
The DBacks and Danny Haren beat the Red Sox on ESPN, and I barely even cared. And while Micah’s homers and hitting are awesome, my emotional reaction to those were completely dwarfed when it comes to Felix’s Grand Slam.
Goose - June 23, 2008
We learned a lot about ourselves today.
Let us all sit around the campfire and sing songs of unity.

I guess he’s referring to their blog-wide ass-mite infestation.
Jordan of Boise - June 23, 2008
I'm not sure what that's about
the Cardinals are having one of the greatest seasons I can recall. They were a 70 win team on paper in ST, now they look like a legit 90 win team.

Graham managed to set aside his obsession with Jeffie to shower Felix with love.

Wait, who were you talking about?
Matthew - June 24, 2008
You seem to get along well with DRB
seattlebruin - June 24, 2008
On another note:
I hope RRS gets a start. I think he deserves a chance to see if he can do it. I know he’s always been a flyball guy, but he’s been a big strike out guy too. Of course, this year his Ks have been down and his walks have been up, but last year and through the minors he was a big strike out guy. Maybe when Morrow’s healthy, he and Brandon can get stretched out together. How bout a game where they each throw fifty pitches or something. It’ll be like Philipe and Hume in the minors.
DAMellen - June 23, 2008

Rarely do we go from euphoria to a complete kick in the balls in the span of a few innings.
JI - June 23, 2008
But in the end, I think we're all feeling pretty good about ourselves.
You know why?
BECAUSE FELIX HIT A GRAND SLAM OFF OF JOHAN SANTANA!
BrianL - June 23, 2008
Best thing i have seen in a while

Death threats
I seem to be in the minority here, but I was appalled by the death threats against Beltran on this site following the injury to Felix. I understand that we all especially love Felix, not only because he’s awesome, but because he’s practically the only Mariner worth watching this year. I also understand that him getting injured is our worst collective nightmare. That said, death threats, even ones obviously made in jest, are simply unacceptable in this day and age. You never know what crazy person you may be unintentionally inspiring. I’d like to further point out that the USS Mariner site loves Felix too, but there was no negative commentary against Beltran, let alone threats, on that site; everyone knew it was just a stupid accident. I think your people need to think a little more carefully about the example you’re presenting to the public.
