They aren't even letting me enjoy the continued regression of Jered Weaver and Reggie Willits. God damn you, Silva. Just...go. Go away and never come back.

Does anyone else feel bad for kids who are Richie Sexson fans?
the Angels are slightly above average as a team, and Vlad’s defense this year hasn’t been freak-show bad. He ranks in the middle of the pack of MLB RF’ers.
And Frankie is gone this year. Plus Escobar is iffy. Third base is still a hole. Gary is done. I don’t think Willits is coming back. Garret is gone (done already). That leaves Hunter in the outfield, most of an infield, underachieving at catcher and a questionable rotation.
But that’s atleast 50-60 million dollars/year coming off the books, too. I think the odds we resign atleast Lackey are good, Vlad will depend on whether he returns to form. Franky is probably leaving, but we’ve got Arredondo and Shields, at the very least. Santana’s not going anywhere, now. Saunders may regress, but he won’t be that bad. Adenhart’s on the way up, and he’ll be good by 2010, I think.
at least M’s fans who grew up with a team that flirted with 95-100 losses each year, the outcome of each game is much less important than some small sign of hope. Especially this year, I don’t care so much if we win, though it’s obviously pretty cool if we do, but I just want to see something that makes being a fan worth it – a Wlad bomb, Clement’s LD swing, Felix, etc.
Snelling gave me a lot of hope that day, and that hope wasn’t extinguished because we lost the game. That hope was extinguished later, much, much more painfully.
Why a pitcher doesn’t catch pop ups when he’s clearly in the easiest position to make the play. Instead, the first baseman, or shortstop, or catcher comes running out and does it instead.
1. He’s coming off the mound which is disorienting 2. The infielders are specialists at catching balls, and have practiced it more 3. MLB pop ups can be rather tricky. They have a lot of movement and are way up there 4. Tradition
I wish people would realize that this whole organization is the problem, not the players, not just the coaches, not just the manager, and not just the GM. EVERYBODY needs to be fired.
Perlozzo waving Betancourt around wasn’t him being stupid It’s clear that they are just desperate to win a game and will do stupid things to get one if they have to
Not being stupid, just willing to do stupid things!
I’m not getting into a retarded semantic battle. The anime it’s parodying comes from Japan, the picture was drawn in the USA by some dude. Therefore, origin != Japan.
that anything I was posting was offensive, not safe for work, or in any other way harmful to the community or Lookout Landing’s reputation, I wouldn’t do it.
I’m well aware of the otaku lifestyle in Japan and I still like anime. Just because you haven’t lived in an environment/community for X amount of time doesn’t mean you should be barred from enjoying a certain form of entertainment. You don’t see the Irish clubbing me over the head every time I listen to traditional Irish music.
That said, if certain posts bug a majority of an online community, I’d suggest not posting them. A majority of people here find anime annoying. Ergo, don’t post anime.
I know everyone realizes this, but it just continues to baffle me that we’ve given him so many at-bats this year and that he’s been batting 3rd or 4th the last month
had strasburg been a month older he would have likely gone first in THIS draft. The Mariners suck, but their not the worst team in baseball. So unless his stock falls a lot we ain’t getting him
Was like scoring from just behind second, with great Yuni speed and Garret Anderson’s arm. All sounds like the scenario where you send a guy, yet he was way out. And now it looks stupid.
apparently the gist of it is that he’s sick and tired of losing. They can’t play the quote though because too much profanity, hopefully we’ll get some details from Baker or something
What I meant to say was that if somebody actually kidnapped a woman and held her in the basement for a few weeks or whatever it was, (barring Stockholm Syndrome), their ass would get jailed. But that’s the only real problem I had with it.
profanity not included, but it's not hard to figure out
"We’re playing our (bleep) off every day and got nothing to show for it. I’m tired of (bleeping) losing, I’m tired of getting my (bleep) beat, and so have those guys. We gotta change this (bleeping bleep) around and get after it. And only we can do it. The fans are (bleeped) off, and I’m (bleeped) off, and the players are (bleeped) off. And that’s the way it is. There’s no (bleeping) easy way out of this, can’t feel sorry for ourself, we gotta (bleeping) buckle it up and get after it. I’m tired of (bleep) losing this, (bleeping) every night we bust our (bleep). It’s gotta be a total team (bleeping) effort to turn this thing around, and that’s it."
Sorry for snapping, I just am lately really put down by all you guys. And I felt like making a statement about it. Humblest apologies for singling you out there.
I’ve seen the quote, but I was hoping for audio of it or audio of Dave Samson’s “OMG THE WORLD’S ENDING BECAUSE ICHIRO GOT A BIG CONTRACT BASEBALLS RUINED” rant
Just because it's less of an outright "bad word" than screw.
Fuck seems like something you reserve for blowups like Mac’s today, not organized, happy press conferences. I have no way of knowing what Bavais said, though. Just speculating.
isn’t really as boring or “smash mouth” as you might like to think.
They line up in plenty of spread formations and attempted all sorts of modern college play making. The issue is that they suck and the only remotely talented player they had on offense last year was Chris Wells.
I could go on and on about how you’re wrong but I don’t think I need to.
Also I don’t think Ultimate success is defined as backing your way into the MNC and getting your ass handed to you 2 years in a row.
They’re the one team nationally (even ‘SC included) that’s as fast as some of those SEC schools (UF, UGA, LSU). I have no idea why they don’t win more because Tressel is somewhere between a good and great coach, and they really do have the athletes. Their secondary has been legitimately fantastic the last three or four years.
I actually think it’s because they just have trouble adjusting to playing teams with as much speed as them and who run interesting offensive schemes (like say the spread) as opposed to very vanilla (besides Purdue and NW Big Ten offenses) (and let’s face it – Purdue and NW don’t have anywhere near the speed necessary to keep up with Ohio State)
But it seems like they just play the technical aspects of hockey to absolute perfection. On a list of teams I’d pay to see, they’d be near the bottom. Plus their star players aren’t exciting… Last Red Wing player I liked was Federov in his early years.. or Stevie Y in, well, every year he played.
I'd say Datsyuk and Zetterberg are pretty damn exciting
the thing that’s fun about the Red Wings is precisely that technical perfection. They’re the best puck possession team in the league and you almost never see them make a bad pass.
I was more trying to illustrate the fact I would rather watch a star player on a bad team than the red wings. Some other players I’d pay to see rather than watch the Red Wings include Mike Modano, Joe Thorton, Ilya Kovelchuk, Malkin and Crosby or Jarome Iginla. Granted some of those players are on good teams, this is just off the top of my head of players I have wanted to see, but haven’t yet.
Does anyone else feel bad for kids who are Richie Sexson fans?
How brutal.

PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
I feel bad for them having horrible parents who think it's OK to be Richie fans, yeah
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
It's like child abuse
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
You would think they would care more about kids wearing his last name.
Fin - June 4, 2008
Because it has 'sex' in it?
That’s a little scary if people think like that.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Especially since the Mariners are a family friendly team

We know all.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
M's fans are one thing, he's an Angels fan.
He’s required to believe in us. >_>
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
Well.
We do the same thing to our team. Honest appraisal of your squad isn’t any less fandom.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Regression to the mean is going to be a bitch.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Yeah, I can't wait for Vlad to go back to a .900 OPS either.
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
I thought he was regressing for good.
Fin - June 4, 2008
He won't if you keep playing him in the outfield.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Its nice to know that the Mariners aren't the only team that can't recognize shitty defense.
Fin - June 4, 2008
Uhhh
the Angels are slightly above average as a team, and Vlad’s defense this year hasn’t been freak-show bad. He ranks in the middle of the pack of MLB RF’ers.
I wish it were not so.
marc w - June 4, 2008
Regression stops when you get old
After a certain point you just suck. We learned that the hard way…..like 8 times.
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Yeah, but that shouldn't happen to Vlad for a while.
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
So long as you keep him at DH.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
He's been getting worse for the last 3 years or so.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Again, a slow regression is one thing, but he shouldn't fall out
of the sky the way he has.
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
Old player skills do that.
It’s not surprising in the least.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Lots of players have sudden collapses
When you reach that point where you just can’t cut it anymore, it can be rather dramatic.
2003-2004 Mariners are a good example.

Why a pitcher doesn’t catch pop ups when he’s clearly in the easiest position to make the play. Instead, the first baseman, or shortstop, or catcher comes running out and does it instead.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
A couple of reasons
1. He’s coming off the mound which is disorienting
2. The infielders are specialists at catching balls, and have practiced it more
3. MLB pop ups can be rather tricky. They have a lot of movement and are way up there

HAHAHAHAHAH
Yuni Crashed
JI GIF!
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
I agree
We definitely need a gif of that
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Aggressive Baserunning
Always the best strategy
edddgar - June 4, 2008
That was the dumbest thing I've ever seen in baseball
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
We find new ways...
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Carlos Garcia back at 3B coach?
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2008
GODDAMMIT YUNI GODDAMMIT.
esoteric - June 4, 2008
Ugh.
Goddammit Yuni.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
YAAAAAAAWwwwwwnnniii...
PositivePaul - June 4, 2008
For those of us w/o a radio
what the heck just happened?
marc w - June 4, 2008
Yuni tried to score from first on a single
And was thrown out by a mile. Got decked pretty good by Napoli too.
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Yuni ran through the signal to hold up at third and was out by a mile at home.
Niehaus sounded like someone had punctured his heart. Twas sad.
esoteric - June 4, 2008
Was the stop sign up?
I didn’t see that.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
The stop sign was NOT up
The basecoach was waving him in all the way.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Yuni was going on the pitch, from first
Ichiro singled to left field and they sent Yuni. He tried to fucking score from first on a weak single to left.
Dear fucking god that was dumb.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
They did not send Yuni.
Niehaus said that the 3B coach told him to hold at 3rd and he kept going on his own.
esoteric - June 4, 2008
Wait, now they're revising. Apparently a green light after all.
esoteric - June 4, 2008
Yeah, they sent him.
Happybelly - June 4, 2008
Nope they definitely waved him around
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Ouch,
right in the face. Napoli’s a brick wall, I wouldn’t have done that.
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
I look forward to this Gameday replay
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Did Yuni just try to score from first on a single?
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Yes.
Happybelly - June 4, 2008
Yes
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
For Christ's fucking sake...I think it's beginning to hurt more than 2004.
esoteric - June 4, 2008
Did he run through a stop sign?
ack - June 4, 2008
NO
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
With your hottest hitter on deck, how do you send the runner there?
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
If there was a wave around that's got to be fireable.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
According to Dave Simms, he was waved in.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
By the way Ichiro just hit a line drive on a pitch a foot off the plate
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Reminds me of my running in my softball game last night.
At least we won 17-11.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Dave Simms silence was classic
seriously, what the hell was that?
MFAN - June 4, 2008
I thought I detected muffled laughter
Kaorikaze - June 4, 2008
I feel bad that his introduction to baseball is the Mariners organization.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Yep, he was waved around
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Perlozzo was sending him the whole way
Yuni didn’t run through a stop sign.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
yep not Yuni's fault
what the fuck was Perlozzo thinking?
ack - June 4, 2008
Maybe he'll be the first to be fired.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
I have no idea.
There wasn’t a single reason I could think of to do that.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Sam Perlozzo was fired by the Orioles
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
So in effect we got Bedard AND Perlozzo in the trade?
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
I hope we lose this game because of that
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Maicer Izturis has much more normal eyebrows in this year's Gameday photo
I am disappointed.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
You think YOU'RE disappointed?
It’s a tragedy.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
i was so happy when i found the hi-res library of all the mugshots.
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
Yep, its the players who are not performing. Setting them up for failure has nothing to do with it AT ALL.
ASSHOLES
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
Well
A lot of them are underperforming, too, but yes.
I wish people would realize that this whole organization is the problem, not the players, not just the coaches, not just the manager, and not just the GM. EVERYBODY needs to be fired.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I call thrid base!
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
And I am automatically fired for having spelled incorrectly.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
JI is GM of the team.
You’ll get a raise.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
Holy shit, people talk about me when I'm not here.
JI - June 4, 2008
Hey we need a gif made
Get one of Yuni being waved home.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
I call second! I have no arm and I can't hit for much power.
It’s my best shot.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
I call first base. I'm no worse than John Olerud.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
I don't get it.
planB - June 4, 2008
John Olerud sucks.
(around here at least)
Thingray - June 4, 2008
I know it's all in good fun...
...but I draw the line at fun at John Olerud’s expense!
planB - June 4, 2008
I'm sure someone can link the reference for you.
We don’t actually think he sucks. Kind of an inside joke.
Thingray - June 4, 2008
So I guess Raffy Soriano will be closing again in Atlanta
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I give it until June 23rd when he goes down with another injury.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
The Mariners' season:

Can we drop the (not a Rick Roll) thing?
It’s not going to help anybody trust you any more or any less.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Think the link is bad anyway.
Thingray - June 4, 2008

Phil Hatzenbuehler - June 4, 2008
"Another efficient inning by Carlos Silva"
Did I hear that right?
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
Dammit Gameday I want video
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Where's Jl?
As one of the important undecided’s, he’s not helping out in gathering in my vote.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I got bored and I fell asleep.
JI - June 4, 2008
I love how they keep replaying Lopez's homerun.
Like it is going to count again and again.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Perlozzo waving Betancourt around wasn't him being stupid
It’s clear that they are just desperate to win a game and will do stupid things to get one if they have to.
discovolante - June 4, 2008
So how was that not stupid?
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Good question.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
It's desperate
He knew it was stupid. We all knew it was stupid the minute we saw Yuni running around third.
discovolante - June 4, 2008
It may be desperate but it was still fucking stupid
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Uh
Not being stupid, just willing to do stupid things!
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Only a stupid person would choose to do stupid things.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
Oh, I see
You’re saying he’s not a stupid man, he just does stupid things. That’s an important distinction for someone who we pay to not do stupid things.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
I didn't say it in the first place!
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
my bad.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
I was trying to make sense of that logic...
And I forgot mah pic. Would this have helped?
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I can't see this image at work but I imagine it's Japanese in origin
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Anime
So, yes.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
While the inspiration is
This particular thing was drawn by a white guy.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I make tortillas.
I am white, but the food is still of Mexican origin.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Argh.
I’m not getting into a retarded semantic battle. The anime it’s parodying comes from Japan, the picture was drawn in the USA by some dude. Therefore, origin != Japan.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
And yet the proximate cause of it is japanese
Hence, japanese in origin.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Die in a fire
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Post less anime
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
That's a fan drawn comic
It’s not anime.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
If it looks like anime it counts as anime
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
That mean no Avatar either?
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Don't care about avatars, can't see them
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Not that Avatar...Dont you have kids?
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I certainly hope not
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
This Avatar
Not Anime
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Not anime,
but still questionable!
Thingray - June 4, 2008
You can see the mods avatars.
JI - June 4, 2008
Just had the same argument with my 18 year old the other day.
Thingray - June 4, 2008
TFAD
planB - June 4, 2008
If you post less anime, you can avoid these kind of debates.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Or
Y’all could just not be dicks. Just sayin’.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Hating anime isn't being a dick
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
What if it's anime porn?
How can you hate porn (unless it’s furry)
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Still anime.
Thingray - June 4, 2008
Still porn
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Still furry.
JI - June 4, 2008
You have me there
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
weakest argument ever
planB - June 4, 2008
Meh.
Who needs porn if you can get the real thing?
Thingray - June 4, 2008
I don't need porn.
I can quit any time.
Besides, the gf likes it.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
People who can't get the real thing?
Matthew - June 4, 2008
It is more fun when you put them together.
Jed MC - June 4, 2008
real thing + porn > real thing
planB - June 4, 2008
Well this subthread is closed now
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Clearly spending too much time on here
if you’re making arguments in favor of anime porn.
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 4, 2008
I was just asking
Not really arguing in favor of or against.
Personally I think anime, like anything else, predominantly sucks, but there is some good anime out there.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Seems pretty irrational and arbitrary to me
Thus, being a dick.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
It's not irrational
anime sucks and the majority of people here seem to dislike it.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
And so they mouth off
Being dicks. Knocking on my personal preference and favorite past time for what?
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
You'll notice that people around here tend to be vocal about things they dislike
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
True.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Yeah, I've also noticed how that can
snowball into disliking particular posters themselves.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
I always thought you were a particularly respectable poster here.
Well, thought.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Post less anime
Pictures are a privilege, not a right.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
If I thought for 5 seconds
that anything I was posting was offensive, not safe for work, or in any other way harmful to the community or Lookout Landing’s reputation, I wouldn’t do it.
But this “anti anime” shit is just absurd.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
No it's not
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Fine
Make it a bannable offense. Otherwise I refuse.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
JI - June 4, 2008
That's a good choice
I’m going home. Someone else can handle this.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I'm sorry,
were you rambling?
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Have you ever lived in Japan, let alone visit it?
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
I'm in the "don't care for anime" camp, but how is that relevant?
Teej - June 4, 2008
I've never been to Philly,
but I like cheesesteaks. What does one have to do with the other?
Thingray - June 4, 2008
Cheesesteaks are not of Philadelphia origin.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
Just kidding, apparently they are.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
No.
What’s your point?
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
If you did, you would probably not like anime.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
What the fuck does that mean?
You think I’m not aware of the culture of anime fandom in Japan?
Get off my fucking back and quit making idiotic presumptions.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Well said.
Sam Regens - June 4, 2008
I'm not particularly an anime fan either, but seems to be too much piling on here
Some guys like hockey for some reason, and other guys like anime or House, etc. Fine.
(P.S. I’m watching my Buck Rogers DVD now).
Sam Regens - June 4, 2008
Things that are annoying deserve to be piled on
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Furries?
::hopeful::
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Furries have indeed gotten annoying
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Hooray!
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Not a very strong argument.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
I wish I had my powers back.
JI - June 4, 2008
I linked it before.

Stupid things don't help you win
They help you lose
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
Why is Darren Oliver still playing baseball?
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
He's actually been pretty good for the Angels
once they took him out of a specialist role and let him pitch an inning or two at a time.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
He has only preserved his career with the Angels because he faces the Mariners 19 times a year.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
god he was in the Rangers rotation for the only mariners i have been too
in 1996
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
Sucky pitcher on the mound. It'll be a 1-2-3 inning.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
Good, Raul's on base for our cle-GODDAMNIT
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Jose Vidro is hitting 4th
MFAN - June 4, 2008
No
He’s 4th in the lineup, but I wouldn’t say he’s hitting.
ralphie81 - June 4, 2008
K-Rod already getting warm.
Losing is a foregone conclusion in the 7th inning.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
you mean the first
InSpokane - June 4, 2008
Good god Vidro is so terrible
I know everyone realizes this, but it just continues to baffle me that we’ve given him so many at-bats this year and that he’s been batting 3rd or 4th the last month
ack - June 4, 2008
Cool. Rockies won.
ThundaPC - June 4, 2008
Alright I know who should replace Squinty.....

Kaorikaze - June 4, 2008
Hey could anyone run through the story of the game as far for me?
How has Silva been?
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Silva being Silva
Pitch to contact pitchers have ups and downs.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Is he gonna throw a complete game, 5 run loss?
Are they all earned?
How’s the offense been. Sorry I just got home and I didn’t know we had a day game.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
gameday
Matthew - June 4, 2008
My computer can't handle gameday, and a game thread at the same time.
It’s beyond sluggish now.
Could anyone just give me a basic rundown, and what to think of Silva/the offense on this particular day?
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Bad
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Silva hasn't changed
nor has the offense
MFAN - June 4, 2008
I would suggest reviewing gameday first in the future
then coming here. It only takes a minute or two to get the basic info from it.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Okay.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
In order.
Yes.
Yes.
Jose Lopez.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Another HR?
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
It's too bad there aren't any live boxscore anywhere.
That would be really useful.
planB - June 4, 2008
Oh good, Carlos is still pitching.
That seems intelligent and well thought out.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Might as well let him keep pitching so he can have a career-ending injury.
Then the Mariners can collect insurance on him.
Wilder. - June 4, 2008
It's been, what, a week since RRS's seen game action?
(facepalm)
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
8 days
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Oh, even better.
I love it when Squinty has Alzheimer attacks and forgets who’s on his team.
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Add that to the list
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Honest question,
should we actually make a list? It might be impressive by season’s end.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
It might be impressive by MONTH's end.
Assuming, of course, that Squinty makes it through the month with his job.
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
That would be on the list as well.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
I don't think it'd be worthwhile
before long we’d start adding like twenty things a day.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
What if we make one of our lackey's maintain it?
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Don't trust lackeys, only trust inner circle

Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
see? Slacker.

teenagers are retarded
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008

eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008

Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Silva usually owns us, the last 4 innings have been way
more typical of him than the first 4.
TheOptimist - June 4, 2008
"If they could only give him a couple of runs"
Because pitchers who give up 5 runs in 8 innings deserve wins
Kaorikaze - June 4, 2008
Silva made it through 8 innings?
o.O

Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
Reed is okay
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Oh wait that was an error
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
It was?
I just saw him swing, hit it hard, then arrive at first.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Um...
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
Orlando Cabrera would demand a pinch runner so he could call the press box
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
He'd lose a chance at Runs.
He’d wait til the inning was over.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
Not an error anymore.
Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008

OlSalty - June 4, 2008

Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I'm disappointed as well.

Smegmalicious - June 4, 2008
Huh... so that is Morrow.
The Grizzly Adams look must be the bullpen’s thang.
The Typical Idiot Fan - June 4, 2008
Open stance DP!
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
The open stance is helping him make more contact.
JI - June 4, 2008
So who do you bring in if we take the lead?
Schuxu - June 4, 2008
Ah well, stupid question...
Schuxu - June 4, 2008
The green fairy
ralphie81 - June 4, 2008
The Mariners can take a lead?
That’s crazy talk, son.
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
fuck you Richie
I would of been down with Willie pinch hitting and bunting.
MFAN - June 4, 2008
Lowered expectations!
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
well thats the game
ack - June 4, 2008
What the hell, Silva is still pitching?
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
Or what the hell, I left in the fourth and he lasted 8 innings?
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
He's hungry for innings.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Delicious...
...delicious innings.
planB - June 4, 2008
He's an innings eater!
Isn’t that why we pay him all that money?
Thingray - June 4, 2008
Mac's saving his bullpen.
Because they’re so worn out, what with RRS on 8 days rest, and Rhodes having faced one batter the last 10 days.
Someone needs to refill Squinty’s Aricept prescription…
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Roberto Petigine where are you..
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
Japan?
Thingray - June 4, 2008

PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
Morrow doesn't have his best fastball today.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 4, 2008
It's funny how I'm disappointed that Morrow's only throwing 98
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
eww
OlSalty - June 4, 2008
There's that 98+ on the outer black again.
Love it.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
98 over the middle, not so much.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
Worst case scenario:
New Soriano?

VALUABLE BUSINESS PROPOSITION
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
I do love Morrow, but...
can I still be annoyed that Squinty can’t keep track of more than 3 pitchers in his bullpen at a time?
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Im not entirely convinced Willits bat is real
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2008
Holographic bat technology would certainly explain a few things.

Reggie Willit's WNBA sister is the ugliest thing i have ever seen
PhilKenSebben - June 4, 2008
Reggie Willits has a WNBA sister?

For Raul it was
OlSalty - June 4, 2008

M's announcers make big deal over routine play for anyone not named Raul?
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Morrow threw that last pitch dead center of the plate thigh high
Willits managed to hit it about 200 feet.
Matthew - June 4, 2008
That's a home run in little league!
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008

Loafie is batting this inning
have faith
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
You misspelled "false hope"
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
It's only false hope when Loafie's not up
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
It's false hope until proven otherwise
We’re discussing the 2008 Mariners here.
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Ended up being 10 pitches
Close
uwbradley - June 4, 2008
Yeah, you win

Strasburg Christmas.
JI - June 4, 2008
FOR STRASBURG!!!!!!!!!!!
kentroyals5 - June 4, 2008

had strasburg been a month older he would have likely gone first in THIS draft. The Mariners suck, but their not the worst team in baseball. So unless his stock falls a lot we ain’t getting him
Trenchtown - June 4, 2008
Unless we finsih in last/first.
JI - June 4, 2008
Watch Bavasi fail to sign him.

The original FanPost on DRB was pretty hilarious
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
I must have missed it.
Thingray - June 4, 2008
RJ posted it a while back, but the OP deleted it later that day
leading to another JI going apeshit over FanPost deletion episode. It was amusing.
seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
Yeah I felt cheated when my first FanShot got deleted,
but that wasn’t at all amusing to anyone but myself, so I kept my piece.

I think "dead meme" about covers it.
At least IMHO.
Thingray - June 4, 2008
we have breating room!
we can actually afford to win a game and still be in the lead.
MFAN - June 4, 2008
21-39, soon to be 21-45

they can take me out behind Safeco and kick me in the nuts, and we’ll call it a season?
(yes, I stole most of that)
Thingray - June 4, 2008
For reference:
The 2004 Mariners after 60 games: 24-36
Yes, that’s right, we’re 3 games BEHIND the win pace of the worst Mariner team in nearly 25 years.
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
Oh wow
This team doesn’t seem THAT bad…but maybe they are.
uwbradley - June 4, 2008
We're heading towards +100 losses.
ThundaPC - June 4, 2008
If we continue at this May-June rate (which we won't)
we’re looking at making a run at the 03 Tigers
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008

Actually, now that I think about it, ignorance is bliss.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Richie: Resign me Bill. I'm better than your cleanup hitting DH.
Crystal for DH - June 4, 2008
Silva went 8.0 innings.
Krueger says that makes him a Warrior.

ThundaPC - June 4, 2008

seattlebruin - June 4, 2008
There was

Brian Floyd - June 4, 2008
Hit and run was on
Was like scoring from just behind second, with great Yuni speed and Garret Anderson’s arm. All sounds like the scenario where you send a guy, yet he was way out. And now it looks stupid.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
I'll let you in on a secret.
GA actually has a pretty good, accurate arm that he disguises by making lazy throw-in’s when it doesn’t matter.
Zu Long - June 4, 2008
Oh?
Alright. Thanks man. I actually didn’t know that, so I did factor it in for the support argument for Perlozzo.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
You sound like Management
Using pre-existing conditions/scenarios to justify poor decision-making.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
That was unforgivable
With Lopez on deck? He’s been our best hitter lately… not that that’s really saying anything.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
The Yuni thing.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
they paraphrased it on the radio
apparently the gist of it is that he’s sick and tired of losing. They can’t play the quote though because too much profanity, hopefully we’ll get some details from Baker or something
ack - June 4, 2008
Oh, and one more thing
It took the 2004 Mariners until game 82 to hit 18 games under .500.
Meaning this season could very well be a [COATHANGER] to end all botched [COATHANGER] Mariner seasons.

qrsouther - June 4, 2008
"unrealism"
?
JI - June 4, 2008
Sorry that was a badly phrased comment
Little preoccupied.
What I meant to say was that if somebody actually kidnapped a woman and held her in the basement for a few weeks or whatever it was, (barring Stockholm Syndrome), their ass would get jailed. But that’s the only real problem I had with it.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Umm it's a movie.
Bruce Willis probably couldn’t kick a whole terrorist organzation’s ass like 4 times, but the Die Hard series still rules.
Movies are unrealistic, and a comedy about kidnapping will never ever ever be realistic, thank god.

Unlike Steven Segal movies, which are equally realistic and plausible.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
Of course.
BTW I fucking loved Exit Wounds. So bad it was good.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I have the exact same feelings about that movie
and Executive Decision
seattlebruin - June 5, 2008
Bruce Wayne also probably couldn't get his hands on military technology in order to wage war on criminals.
Yet it’s still fun to watch.
Teej - June 4, 2008
true story
but one of Jack Black’s best roles… Steve Zahn too
Boydo - June 4, 2008
That movie was just made of awesome
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I was just talking about how much I liked Steve Zahn earlier.
And I cited this movie, That Thing You Do, and Riding in Cars with Boys as my favorite roles he’s done.
Stress my usage of rolls.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
*dammit, roles.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Hm...
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Somewhat of a quandary...
BrianL - June 4, 2008
The Phillies game is getting interesting.
JI - June 4, 2008
I can't remember a mariner manager going off like this at a press conference.
Definitely not family friendly. >:)
JI - June 4, 2008
I really hate to say it, because I'm sick of hearing people bring his name up...
but didn’t Lou have some epic blowups with the media?
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Don't remember.
but it wouldn’t surprise me
JI - June 4, 2008
I must say I enjoy non-family friendly Mac, though.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Yes, this is the opposite of him crying.
JI - June 4, 2008
I only hope Riggleman or Perlozzo can be this entertaining after Squinty gets fired.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
If Perlozzo is hired
I will sneak into Safeco and crucify myself to the right foul post.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
Seems like a stupid idea.
JI - June 4, 2008
Can we give this fellow the same advice we gave butthol?
BrianL - June 4, 2008
You can't crucify yourself to a pole
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
You can do a striptease to a pole.
JI - June 4, 2008
I'm going to go watch hockey now
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Rays need to suck less, rain needs to stop falling in DC.
JI - June 4, 2008
Needs more OT
Fuck the Pens, but Game 5 has set unattainable expectations
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
You could affix each arm to each foul pole.
planB - June 4, 2008
I don't know how one would type with arms that long
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I was thinking long ropes...
...and dangling over center.
planB - June 4, 2008
So, what happens if a ball in play hits him?
Automatic double?
BrianL - June 4, 2008
no he's like the Monster
in-play
planB - June 4, 2008
Awesome.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
but equally as pathetic
Boydo - June 4, 2008
profanity not included, but it's not hard to figure out
"We’re playing our (bleep) off every day and got nothing to show for it. It’s gotta be a total team (bleeping) effort to turn this thing around, and that’s it."
planB - June 4, 2008
I think Squinty needs his juicebox and blankie.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Did you really bleep out 'pissed'?
joof - June 4, 2008
The guy filling in for Baker did.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Did that guy filling in for Baker really bleep out 'pissed'?
joof - June 4, 2008
Yes.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
> making a quote box is the stupidest thing ever.
joof - June 4, 2008
I agree.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
There are children here.

Seishi - June 4, 2008
That was totally a fuckin team effort.
Favourited.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
lol... he sounds like he is using bad words for the first time
planB - June 4, 2008
Exactly. It sounds very forced.
Like he told himself to insert a “fucking” at random intervals, but didn’t really know where to put them.
Teej - June 4, 2008
We should copy that upload, then go Harold and Kumar on it.
Everytime there’s a fuck or a shit.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
/agrees
Like he’s saying it, but not really feeling it. Even when leaves, he just mosey’s to the door instead of storming out.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
I'm pretty sure he's been sapped of all emotion by now
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Now we need a photoshop with the caption
“Fucking change shit around.”
BrianL - June 4, 2008
FUCKIN TEAM EFFORT.
And photoshop his and Raul’s faces on the Strasburg-furries win .gif.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
That was my favorite line.
Bavasi was probably saying “Fuck, don’t say that!”
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Nothing tops "Fuck Dave Samson"
At least I have that one Bavasi gem to hang onto.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
I have never heard that.
I’ve searched diligently, so if anyone knows where to find that I’d be eternally grateful.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
It was just a text quote wasn't it?
I never knew it was said out loud…
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Well, most quotes are spoken
So it obviously was said out loud.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Well, I always thought it was like an issued statement back to him,
not like in an interview or whatever.
Dude what’s your problem with me? What’d I ever do to you to make you feel like belittling me and making me feel like a dumbass on every reply-to me?
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Relax man there was nothing personal
Sorry if it came off dickish.
I thought it was said at like a media meeting/press conference thing
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Okay okay
Sorry for snapping, I just am lately really put down by all you guys. And I felt like making a statement about it. Humblest apologies for singling you out there.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
That's alright.
It was kinda dickish, looking back at it.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
No worries now
At least you’re one to acknowledge it.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Florida Marlins president Dave Samson criticized the Ichiro contract extension
Bill Bavasi said “My momma always told me, if you don’t have anything nicer to say than ‘fuck Dave Samson’, don’t say anything at all”
planB - June 4, 2008
linky

planB - June 4, 2008
Thanks man
I’ve seen the quote, but I was hoping for audio of it or audio of Dave Samson’s “OMG THE WORLD’S ENDING BECAUSE ICHIRO GOT A BIG CONTRACT BASEBALLS RUINED” rant
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I thought I read somewhere that he said "Screw Dave Samson."
I mean, he was talking to the media. Seems odd that he would say fuck in that context.
Teej - June 4, 2008
I remember it as [Expletive] Dave Samson.
So unless the M’s media is filled with pussies, it was fuck.
Though judging by pissed=(bleeped), it probably was screw.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
As someone who edits news stories at a newspaper for a living,
I can tell you that newspapers are full of pussies. “Screw Dave Samson” would not be allowed in our paper.
Teej - June 4, 2008
That should say "many" newspapers.
I don’t mean to completely generalize. But that’s been my experience.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Yeah as my HS sports editor I found some shit to be ridiculous
Obviously not the same as a real paper, but I had to take the word hatred out of one of my articles becuase it was “offensive”
As editor I was able to slip in “Testicle” in like 8 straight issues at one point. Yay for immaturity
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I still try to do that.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Who said that immaturity goes away?
My coworkers filled one of my desk drawers with those packing peanuts today. Work immaturity is awesome
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I was the editor of my high school newspaper.
A local restaurant tried to sue me after one of my writers published a negative review of their cooking. That was fun.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
That actually sounds awesome
Unless of course he won
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Oh no, the judge laughed him out of the court room.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Hahah that's good
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Food criticism is ridiculous.
You can write that a dish was too spicy, then call the mayor a rapist, and the restaurant will be the first to sue you for libel.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Well it's not libel if it's true....
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
... a restraurant sued a HIGH SCHOOL newspaper over a review?
I could mayyyybe understand if you were a professional journalist and it was a particularly negative review but…
seattlebruin - June 5, 2008
Yeah it probably was screw.
But without proof I will assume it was fuck, because that’s much funner
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
I like this policy.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Hm.
I can’t prove that he didn’t. Why is “fuck” odder than “screw” in that context, given they are synonymous?
planB - June 4, 2008
Just because it's less of an outright "bad word" than screw.
Fuck seems like something you reserve for blowups like Mac’s today, not organized, happy press conferences. I have no way of knowing what Bavais said, though. Just speculating.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Thanks. My computer at work doesn't like the King 5 site.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Que?
BrianL - June 4, 2008
Wifebeater no hitter through 6
please stop this
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Joey Votto ended it.
Teej - June 4, 2008
One of the many reasons he's awesome...
Didn’t someone mention a possible Putz for Votto++ trade this offseason?
I love JJ, but oops.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Cancer has nothing to do with baseball
shut up
JI - June 4, 2008
The Mariners gave me cancer.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
The gave me the AIDS
How retro of them.
JI - June 4, 2008
All in the spirit of throwback uniform night.
BrianL - June 4, 2008
The Mariners beat my wife, who has cancer.
Teej - June 4, 2008
Thank God we finally traded him
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Cancer beat my wife, and the Mariners did their best to Buzzie Bavasi.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Josh Hamilton just gave my computer AIDS
And nice job Penguins. So let’s make this like a 3 OT Detroit winner by Zetterberg
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
The Wings are kinda like the Spurs of the NHL
They are as boring as they are succesful. Although not as much in recent years.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
Or tOSU Buckeyes of NCAA football.
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
Horribly overrated
and the product of favorable home scheduling, and a mediocre conference thus easily exposed when playing teams that are actually talented?
bluemax - June 4, 2008
Exactly.
But I was highlighting the boring style of smashmouth play but ultimate success. (Well aided by the reasons you mentioned above.)
qrsouther - June 4, 2008
OSUs play style
isn’t really as boring or “smash mouth” as you might like to think.
They line up in plenty of spread formations and attempted all sorts of modern college play making. The issue is that they suck and the only remotely talented player they had on offense last year was Chris Wells.
I could go on and on about how you’re wrong but I don’t think I need to.
Also I don’t think Ultimate success is defined as backing your way into the MNC and getting your ass handed to you 2 years in a row.
bluemax - June 4, 2008
They're fast.
I actually think it’s because they just have trouble adjusting to playing teams with as much speed as them and who run interesting offensive schemes (like say the spread) as opposed to very vanilla (besides Purdue and NW Big Ten offenses) (and let’s face it – Purdue and NW don’t have anywhere near the speed necessary to keep up with Ohio State)
seattlebruin - June 5, 2008
The Wings aren't boring at all
I don’t like them (or hate them), but they’re fucking spectacular.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Maybe it's just me...
Boydo - June 4, 2008
I'd say Datsyuk and Zetterberg are pretty damn exciting
the thing that’s fun about the Red Wings is precisely that technical perfection. They’re the best puck possession team in the league and you almost never see them make a bad pass.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I agree 100%
Call me a simpleton, but I’d just rather watch an Ovetchkin breakway than the 5 guys in red playing keepaway from the other team.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
I would too
but AO isn’t a very fair benchmark. He’s the greatest athlete in North America.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
yeah that's true
I was more trying to illustrate the fact I would rather watch a star player on a bad team than the red wings. Some other players I’d pay to see rather than watch the Red Wings include Mike Modano, Joe Thorton, Ilya Kovelchuk, Malkin and Crosby or Jarome Iginla. Granted some of those players are on good teams, this is just off the top of my head of players I have wanted to see, but haven’t yet.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
Coughmikerichardscough
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
So the Red Wings are the Spurs of the NHL?
Matthew - June 4, 2008
They're not boring
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
The Spurs aren't boring if you like the technical aspects of team basketball
Matthew - June 4, 2008
I don't like basketball
I guess that’s probably the root of the issue here.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Stevie Y was just unbelievable.
Don’t know how anyone could dislike the guy
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Yeah, it was sad to see him go
Thought he had a couple more seasons in him too… guess he wanted to end it on his terms.
Boydo - June 4, 2008
Yeah. Seeing the Wings without him and Shanahan saddens me
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
It is a dead meme, but
Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen, and the rest of their ridiculously good offense say hi.
Also, Rafalski, Stuart and Lidstrom can be great scorers
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Cleary just took a skate to the face and stayed out on his shift.
Playoff Hockey>everything else
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Fleury just blew it
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Yeah
Unless Crosby or Malkin go nuts, this one’s over
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Welp, it ain't over yet...
YESSS Excitement
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
HOLY SHIT THAT WAS RIDICULOUS
WOWOWOWOWOW
That probably was after the buzzer but it was .1 mm from going in
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Oh, damn. Hockey.
For a second I thought you went back in time and made the Mariners good.
Teej - June 4, 2008
To the De Lorean!!!
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Awesome final two minutes
That’s exactly the way this season had to end.
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Yeah those final two games were what the NHL needs
Also a dead Gary Bettman
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2008
Booing him during trophy presentation: always funny
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Genius
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
Maybe Yuni knows about Strasburg
waldo rojas - June 4, 2008
It wasn't Yuni, it was Perlozzo
He’s the best coach ever. Taking matters into his own hands to make sure the Ms get Strasburg.
Eyebrows - June 4, 2008
Its sure has been a team effort.
I am glad the coaches have been actively involved.

Robert - June 4, 2008
I see no reason to believe that he's ever been a real fan
Jeff Sullivan - June 4, 2008
I feel vindicated.
Red Wings fans I know were muttering about Bettman conspiring to throw the series with the refs so Crosby could have some cup time.
I’m making this face….
eponymous_coward - June 4, 2008
this face?
