I'm going downtown to watch Cha Baek pitch on purpose for some reason, but depending on when I get back, I may throw up a handful of observations from our latest massive failure.

Jeff Sullivan - June 7, 2008
I've never played OF before
But seriously, I wonder how much worse I could look.
LantermanC - June 7, 2008
Yeah my giffing wasn't going to start until the STL game ended.
JI - June 7, 2008
Besides being a bit small
the bottom one is perfect.
I might take a crack at the top one later.
JI - June 7, 2008
that's what she said
LantermanC - June 7, 2008
Raul Ibanez Is Really Good At Defense
ThundaPC - June 7, 2008
A reason to be proud:
hahaha
JI - June 7, 2008
Okay, that rules
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Read the section "pro career"
http://www.mahalo.com/Raul_ibanez
seattlebruin - June 7, 2008
Ibanez for CF.
Edgar for Mayor - June 7, 2008
I've seen this time and again
I still facepalmed after seeing these GIFs.
Gomez - June 7, 2008
How does the management not see this? I'd be ashamed if I were Raul.
Susheel Ramasahayam - June 7, 2008
I think they see it, they just don't care or think it really is effecting the outcome of games much.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
At this point they're probably right.
Matthew - June 7, 2008
Add the Raul look
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
I love Ichiro's reaction in the first one
WTF indeed.
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Jl
Any chance you could make a YouTube montage with all of Raul’s defensive suckiness? I want to prove to my girlfriend’s boss that Raul does indeed suck ass at defense. (He claims that Raul is average. But again, he also listens to KJR and thinks Beltre is only good for his defense and all that casual fan goodness).
Fin - June 7, 2008
Yes, the player who is leading the team in home runs is only good at defense.
That’s flawed logic even for a casual fan.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
I tried arguing this with him
But of course Beltre’s standard was set in 2004, so he was expected to repeat 2004 every year with the Mariners, in a stadium that kills right-handed power of course.
Fin - June 7, 2008
So he thought Beltre was Mike Schmidt?
Aaron Campeau - June 7, 2008
He probably doesn't know who Mike Schmidt is.
Fin - June 7, 2008
Okay, now I see what you're up against.
Aaron Campeau - June 7, 2008
If you want to be funny, set it to "Werewolves of London"
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Haha
Very good idea! Jl, get on it, if possible.
Fin - June 7, 2008
I suppose I could do it, but I've never edited any video together before.
JI - June 7, 2008
We need more material too.
Add those 7 gif together, and I still don’t think we have a minute’s worth of footage. If anyone would like to direct me to any asshattery we may have overlooked (the archives go back to 2005) feel free to point out the date/inning of the potential blunder.
Another thing, i wouldn’t youtube it, because it would be removed immediately, my photobucket will host small videos, and I’m not sure, but I think host a video full of mlb owned footage on a SBN website may raise concerns as well.
JI - June 7, 2008
Alright, just do your best
Anything would be appreciated. Were people here taking tabs on Raul’s suck last year and the year before like we are this year?
Fin - June 7, 2008
I like that idea.
One day when we collect enough footage, Jeff and I are going to have to storyboard that shit. It does sound like a massive undertaking.
JI - June 7, 2008
The gifs are about 30 seconds long total
even if you stretch it out to include long takes of each play you’re still talking ~45 seconds I don’t really feel like re-watching every mariner game from the last 2.33 seasons, so if anyone has any pointers it would be much appreciated.
JI - June 7, 2008
scratch that obne was bad take
so it’s close to 35
JI - June 7, 2008
You can YouTube it, there's ways around it.
Like spelling the player’s name backwards or something.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
We could post a secret link and store it elsewhere as well.
JI - June 7, 2008
There are WWE clips all over YouTube and those are copyrighted
so it can and has been done. It’s just a matter of being conspicuous and not using the material of anyone who is actively out to sue people for copyright violations (like Metallica).
Gomez - June 7, 2008
If someone can get me some full-game .avi files I can make any of these videos
I’ve always kicked ass at video editing.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
I think I may still have the original viedos on my hard drive.
but right now there’s not nearly enough video to take up3 minutes.
JI - June 7, 2008
I like the idea of making a story out of the clips.
Like adding some footage of Squinty, Silva, Washburn, and Johjima as well.
Fin - June 7, 2008
Someone get me the files and I'll do this.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
My idea
Cut into generic press conference footage of mac in between shots and add captions:
(Real quotes, not these pharaphrases):
“We’re happy with our OF defense”
“We play these guys deep, balls drop in front, we move the forward and they sail over their heads. Now we’re going to split the difference.”
JI - June 7, 2008
I think that would be a slap in the face to management
I love it, but I think there should also be a story based throughout a game or even throughout the season.
Fin - June 7, 2008
I just sent you all 36 seconds of my Raul archives.
JI - June 7, 2008
I can't find the video I used for "Dive"
hmmp
JI - June 7, 2008
Got 'em. I'll work on them later.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
oooh a demo
JI - June 7, 2008
I think setting it to Werewolves of London is perfect.
I have 52 seconds of usable footage on my hard drive. I think it could work well silent, but I also think it would be better with the pbp, unfortunately when I’m recording the mlbtv window I don’t get any sound.
JI - June 7, 2008
If this gets made
We’re calling it Lawn Darts of London.
JI - June 7, 2008
KJR seems to defend Beltre on the post game show most nights.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
The KJR hosts do a pretty good job defending Beltre.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
The M's postgame show is pretty much the best thing on KJR.
Not sayin’ a whole lot, but…
Aaron Campeau - June 7, 2008
I really only listen to KJR when Dave Cameron is being interviewed
but I have heard that most of the people on sports radio are really biased and support the team’s bad decisions, and probably not the best place to go to for sports coverage.
Fin - June 7, 2008
No they've been calling for Lincoln and Armstrong and Bavasi's heads for awhile. Maybe that's why I find it listenable.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
Even Lincoln and Armstrong?
Maybe its not as bad as I thought. Are there certain hosts which are better than others?
Fin - June 7, 2008
Post game guys are pretty good except for Jeff Nelson.
I don’t really mind the Groz. The rest are very meh. But they all want to fire the suits as well as the decision makers.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
Softy and Groz have been tearing into Lincoln and Armstrong over the last month or so.
When Chuckie came onto one of their shows and said “Bill Bavasi has done an excellent job” Softy about lost it.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
Sports talk radio is the exception to Godwin's law that 90% of everything is crap
100% of sports talk radio is crap. My dad still listens to KJR just to make fun of the idiot callers.
seattlebruin - June 7, 2008
As well they should because Beltre is good
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Sweet Jesus.
I thought Raul couldn’t possibly look any worse in the field.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
Did this shit happen today?
Slica - June 7, 2008
Miami vs. Arizona is on ESPN right now
You can watch Yader Alonso, and our 2nd rd pick Raben (Rabin?) play
LantermanC - June 7, 2008
Raben just cured cancer
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
He also hit a jack yesterday
seattlebruin - June 7, 2008
Raben with 4 walks just now!
Lefty power with walks? Looks fine to me,also his thighs are ginormous, Lou Gehrig sized
LantermanC - June 7, 2008
I want 2130 straight games of awesome out of that big fucker
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Raben has walked
all 4 times he’s been to the plate.
MfaninAlaska - June 7, 2008
We can fix that
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008

Was I the only one who didn’t know this?
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
I never heard of either of them.
JI - June 7, 2008
o_O
I only know of this blog because there was a link to it under “M’s Blogosphere” on USSM. Don’t feel like reading it, is it any good?
Fin - June 7, 2008
God dammit, your technique is terrible.
Look at that mouthpiece placement! Off to the side, that’s going to cause all sorts of intonation issues. Not only that, there’s way too much pressure on the top and bottom of the mouthpiece. Even pressures from all angles, you fucktard!
Go die, Kenny G. Better than John Coltrane my ass.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
He also just looks like an assbag
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
Pardon my totla ignorance here, but ...
are there actually people who believe Kenny G is better technically than Coltrane?
Steve Nelson - June 7, 2008
Kenny G thinks he's better than Coltrane.
Therefore, Kenny G is a fucking tool.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
He said that?
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
Seems stupid.
JI - June 7, 2008
The quote's buried somewhere.
I think Pat Metheney overheard Kenny G say that at some event. This prompted Metheney to write a rather scathing (and awesome) tirade about Kenny G.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
What is your opinion on David Sanborn?
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
As far as the modern pop/fusion sax players go he's one of the best.
Good gritty (and when we’re talking about saxophones this is a good term to use) tone, excellent range over all registers.
My favorite sax player of all time is Paul Desmond, though.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
I keep on thinking that its Wierd Al.
JI - June 7, 2008
At first glance I thought it was weird al too
Fin - June 7, 2008
AHHHH
Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008
Weird Al died after Running with Scissors.
the last song he ever did was Albuquerque.
PhilKenSebben - June 7, 2008
Weird Al is way too cool to be compared to Kenny G
OlSalty - June 7, 2008
I also saw that pic and immediately thought it was Weird Al
Gomez - June 7, 2008
Wierd Al, Kenny G, & Michael Bolton look too similar for Wierd Al's good.
Jed MC - June 7, 2008
Weird, not Wierd. Exception to that rule for one reason or another.
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
Is anyone else having a problem with the mlbtv archives sitting themselves the last few days?
JI - June 7, 2008
I hate it when I JI my curse words.
JI - June 7, 2008
Regression day
strikes hard.
Edgar for Mayor - June 7, 2008
Looks like you caught a good start from Baek, Jeff
Definitely more exciting than this game
BrettJMiller - June 7, 2008
A 2 gif game is usually pretty entertaining.
JI - June 7, 2008
That's how we're rating games now?
Total number of gifs produced?
BrianL - June 7, 2008
Measureing wins by Gobstoppers never caught on.
JI - June 7, 2008
That's a shame.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
It was before my time.
JI - June 7, 2008
On the other hand
we’ve had 22 Fiddle Cats against 40 Strasburg Christmas Miracles .
JI - June 7, 2008
God bless us, everyone.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
It caught on amongst cool people
Matthew - June 7, 2008
This must be what the secret threads are about.
JI - June 7, 2008
That was super
Jeff Sullivan - June 8, 2008
Completely out of left field but...
I just realized that the Philadelphia Phillies have a really white team. You don’t think about it since Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard are both faces of the franchise and they are black, so I decided to compare them to the infamous white jays
Racial Breakdown Phillies
Black: 3 (Gordon, Rollins, Howard)
Latino: 3 (Romero, Feliz, Ruiz)
Asian: 1 (Taguchi)
Other: 1 (Victorino)
White: 17
Racial Breakdown Blue Jays
Black: 2 (Stewart, Wells)
Latino: 2 (Barajas, Rios)
White: 21
Clearly the Blue Jays are still ahead in the % of white players.
Other white teams: Colorado (9 Non-Whites) Twins (7 ) Oakland (7) Pittsburgh (8) Padres (8)
Just in case you were wondering according to a study of Major League Baseball of the 2005 season, 40.1% of baseball players were non-white. assuming there haven’t been any drastic chances in the demographics of baseball over the past 3 years you would expect about 10 players per team to be non-white so even teams like Colorado and the Phillies really aren’t that far off that mark.
Trenchtown - June 7, 2008
Not as white as the Blue Jays.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
or the Cardinals
JI - June 7, 2008
6 non-white cardinals by my count
Trenchtown - June 7, 2008
Yes, but the white ones are so incredibly white.
and I count 5, with Chris Perez being somewhat ambiguous.
JI - June 7, 2008
I didn't count Perez
Flores, Lohse, Molina, Izturis, Pujols, Barton
Trenchtown - June 7, 2008
Loshe, Flores?
Their first names are Kyle and Randy. They could be the Marshes.
JI - June 7, 2008
Lohse
via wiki “Lohse is one of only three non-Hispanic Native American players”
Flores is a Spanish last name and he’s from so-cal, he at least as ambugious as Perez
Trenchtown - June 7, 2008
I'd have to hear him talk.
JI - June 7, 2008
Hm. Now that I read your post I'll have to amend my first reply.
tl;dr.
BrianL - June 7, 2008

Last Fan Of Jose Lopez - June 7, 2008

and I drank way too much last night to go out again tonight so it’s not like I have a lot to do that’s constructive
Trenchtown - June 7, 2008
How on earth do the Blue Jays have 21 white players...
seattlebruin - June 7, 2008
Canada.
JI - June 7, 2008
Most Diverse or non-white team?
Fin - June 8, 2008
So for those of you who listen to the games on KOMO1000
looks unlikely that the team will be broadcast on the station in 2009. Perhaps a small chance they head back to KIRO.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
Why?
JI - June 7, 2008
Contract is up at the end of the season and renewal talks seem to be dead.
It looks like either KJR or KIRO710 will get the broadcasts next season.
BrianL - June 7, 2008
ah
JI - June 7, 2008
Maybe a new broadcast team will brown-nose a little less
Granted, to maintain their access, they have to be a bit soft of criticism, but still, KOMO’s a bunch of half-blind shills.
