Olney:

The Yankees are not expected to make a blockbuster deal before the trade deadline, but they are seeking ways to upgrade their rotation and are taking a serious look at Seattle lefty Jarrod Washburn.

The Yankees haven't missed the playoffs since 1994.
A lot of teams missed the playoffs in 1994
For some reason I can't remember what happened that year.
Shall I spell it out for you?

Zombies?!!
Well done kid.
You spelled it perfectly for him.
I really hope you did that on purpose.
Ask the Expos.
I'm fucking serious

I remember what happened down the stretch in 91, 92, 93, but I have no memories of anything past mid-July in 1994. God bless my brain for blocking out that trauma.

Not a whole lot happened from Mid July to the end of the season.

The strike started on August 12th.

I remember watching a Griffey highlight reel in the Kingdome (for some reason)

and seeing clips of him kicking ass in 1994, and thinking “I don’t remember any of this…”

Did you fall on your head that year?
I'm trying to think of a year where I haven't fallen on my head.
J-Ironic that you can remember falling on your head.
I always used to hit my head on the door frame getting out of the car.

Thank god a drunk driver totaled that thing.

I'm sure it was all due to the car.
As they say, a good picture's worth $1,000.

Of course these pictures are worth approxamitely $9,850,000. That saying sucks. Much like Washburn.

Uh... Coach?

It’s “a good picture is worth 1,000 WORDS, not $1,000…”

Otherwise, I’d be a pro photographer

Blame Family Guy.
Or, maybe I'm right and

you just suck at photography!

Heh, I do just fine for myself as is
Well played on the Family Guy reference that I missed
There was an episode called "A Picture Is Worth $1,000"

and I must have been thinking of that for some reason and thought it was the real saying.

Chris paints the picture for Peter, art dealer sees it...

Yadda, yadda..

This photo

Is worth a hell of a lot more than $1000

Although one is pressed to explain why
Things are often worth more than their tangible value.

I just paid $75 for about $3 worth of vinyl and $.50 worth of cardboard because it was worth $75 to me.

OK, I'll bite:

what’d you get?

I knew you would.

Sealed. Usually goes for $150-$200 in that condition. I had to.

Hype box set, eh?

That’s got all-time Tacoma anthem ‘My Hometown’ on it, right? Nice.

And an alt. version of ‘Julie Francavilla’ by Flop. I always hoped she heard about that song, and that she liked it.

Young Fresh Fellow's "Dark Corner of the World"

was worth the price of admission alone. The alternate version of “Julie Francavilla” is better than the album one, as far as I’m concerned.

Did I miss something?

Looks like a dead tree to me.

Yup.

ANY original Ansel Adams print starts at upwards of $5000.

That’s an original.

And one of my life goals

Is to own an original print of this.

It’s probably the photo that drove me to photography the most.

That's unfathomably amazing.
As is the story behind that photo, too...
Do tell.
Linky Linky

On Ansel Adams.com

What the hell...

Why didn’t that link work:

http://www.anseladams.com/content/ansel_info/ansel_ancedotes.html

Thanks!
I always forget that these pictures aren't as old as I think they are.
Nope.

They say if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it, but I already understand that so I’m going to. But without having done so, yet, I’d guess that this photo would probably sell for at least the salary of the MLB minimum player:

Only 8 of them were printed. Ever.

Of course, as of right now per wiki, a sale of the “Moonrise, Hernandez” photo original has been the highest of any Ansel print. And that was for less than $1 million, amazingly. I’m fairly certain, though, that while it’s one of Ansel’s more popular images, his 1930s stuff that doesn’t get that much attention is right up there in value.

For right now I think I'll have to settle for replicas.
And more photo-geekery...

...just because I can.

Anyone who says that they don’t photoshop their photos and gives the reason that “Ansel never would’ve used Photoshop!” doesn’t know the story behind this photo:

Do you have a link to that story as well?
Tried to find it...

...but can’t right now.

I believe it’s in one of his books, though.

You just gave me an idea for what to look for at the book store before I go camping.
I'm re-reading his autobiography

For at least the 3rd time…

I could be wrong, but I think the story behind that photo is in this book.

Care to give a brief summary

I’m intrigued.

Spoiler alert!

Hahaha…

Anyway—I believe this is the shot of the foothills where it’s a tradition of either high schoolers or college kids to go and scratch graffiti into the mountain. He took the photo anyway, and had his retouchers edit out the words that were written on that mountain. I can’t remember if he touched up the negative, too, or what. It’s something like that, though…

Here’s a larger copy of this shot, but I’m not sure it’s a good enough scan to see if you can tell where the touch-up work is. But in one copy of this that I’ve seen, you can definitely tell…

Thanks for the recommendation.

I’ll look for that tomorrow before I leave.

I could stare at that for days.
I have a fake copy, framed

And I’ve seen an original print.

The original is absolutely amazing.

I need this.

I don’t care if it’s a print. If I can stare at the little one on my computer, I could stare at one on my wall.

Have a

link to a larger copy, Paul?

Hmmm.

A google search for “Moonrise, Hernandez” doesn’t really do it justice.

There’s a reason why Ansel wanted total, absolute control over even cheap duplications of his works…

I'm saving up for Ansel's photo of Ciscoe Morris's bush.
You mean...

His photos of Georgia O’Keefe’s “petals” aren’t good enough for ya?

I don't care what anyone says, I love Georgia O'Keefe.
No kidding.

Her husband did pretty well himself. Certainly one of my faves, too…

Fair enough!
Heh.

I bought his copy of Jeffrey’s bush:

It wasn’t printed by Ansel, so it’s only sorta expensive, but it is an actual photograph from his actual negative. There are several more in that series that I hope to buy soon…

Is it a happy little bush?

Oh god... so easy... potential for hilarity...
Please don't.
Box time is less fun when you are alone.
Is it a happy little box?
When there are two of us.
See, this is why you don't go there.
Just realized there are all sorts of layers of double meanings here that I did not intend.
The important thing is that, once again, I understood.
Mine was intentional.
Goddamn it why didn't you take the bait?
He knows he'd have to face his box time alone.
That makes sense.

I didn’t recognize it as an Ansel Adams. I do love his work.

Never leave us ever again.
Need medical marijuana for my glaucoma...
MLBTR says

a possible trade could be Washburn for Igawa. Pencil, meet my eye.

Well, yeah...

You should sharpen a second pencil as punishment for even viewing that site :-)

A dull pencil would be much more effective.
I'm sure that there's someone around that can show you how to make a pencil disappear.
I took me a full minute to figure that out as it happened.

This is worse than the JeffClown
I think it's pretty good!
I forgot to erase part of Joker's face on the lower left and it's bugging me
It frightens the hell out of me.
If I had a signature it would be "If you can sleep well after seeing my photoshops, I haven't done my job"
LOOK AWAY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE DARK KNIGHT

This scene was so amazing.

Never have I seen an audience react with horror, yet start laughing.

Meet Joe Black

When Brad Pitt gets hit by the car at the beginning of the movie.

Somebody needs to throw the words banned on the end of this.
That would be so awesome.
I'd do it I I weren't so lazy
I think "TA DA!" would be funnier.
Since this post has already been derailed

What are everyone’s thoughts concerning Mariners Radio moving back to KIRO? It will be New York Vinnie-less, since he was fired last year (thank god).

Don't really care

I live out of state and only listen to the radio on Saturday’s when games are blacked out.

Doesn't matter to me. As long as I can hear the game I'm fine.
All for it.

KOMO drives me insane.

Same announce crew?

Well, save for sparing us the shit-ton of ads KOMO piled onto their gamecasts, it should be the same.

Washburn would be a better fit for the Texas Rangers.

They have a good supply of young hitters the Mariners could use in return.

Inter-division trades are a common and acceptable baseball practice.
Just like assassinating the President of the United States of America.
Hello, Department of Homeland Security.
I've never heard of this baseball practice
Well that's because you're an idiot.
The hell, Coach got mean?
That's a bit harsh
You know what?

So is making people look at your face.

Not if his face is a clam.
I love this Coach
Addendum to the TOS?
I want to give it a few weeks to make sure it doesn't wear thin
I'm bored of it already.
It has its moments
Sure, but it's too broad.

It’s as overapplied as something that is applied far too often.

Hahaha mean Coach is awesome
I'm absolving you of any blame for all harsh words

And instead choose to blame Robert

This is always a proper solution.

Especially when he’s since he’s always drunk.

Damn chop is my favorite part of this image.
You can't use strike-through on the subject line.
I'll give you a hint

Bold the body text.

Will you come along the next time I get drunk?
So right now?
You live in a world that I can but dream of.
You dream of obesity epidemics and high gas prices?
Overrated fanpost.

God dammit you're right.

And Coach is winning this battle of needy pre teens. Step up your game.

Pre?
Teens is to vague of a term
I suppose so.
You're just jealous
Nuh uh!!11!!1!!
Did'nt Jeff suggest this type of thing when he wrote a story about wanting to acquire Rivera from the Angels?
... as a free agent, right?
Party Van time for you.

Hi there FBI!

Think outside the box.
You guys are the worst commenters ever
There is no floor.
We're lacking in leadership when you take threads off
You send me mixed signals
GOD

We kept the other three thread baseball centric. Stop posting so many, we run out of material.

I just like to put you in your place
I would have boxed Matthew for being a complete Grade-A douchebag to me in the Washburn thread.
You are overly defensive about Chris Carpenter.
I have no idea what inspired that comment from you.
Overt Nazism too obvious of an answer for you?
I assume that was your point

regarding this

You linked us to this thread?
You posted a comment here?
Why would I think Carpenter would be any sort of a big help?
Honestly, I have no idea what's going on here anymore.

I was trying to figure out where I was a douchebag to you.

It was a douchey thing to say then I over exaggerated the offense I took.
You two should just make up already.

This subthread keeps taking me back to 2/3 down the thread.

I think you can't find a specific example because

you always are.

Be more selective in your insults.
I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just making a point.
Make more factual points.
Well, there was that one time.

You know, when Jeff was gone and you were in charge of the gamethread, you said “New thread up in fifteen” and I said “Fifteen minutes or posts?” and then you said something like “Fifteen moonphases. Of course, minutes. When did we ever open a new thread because of the number of posts?”.

Are you gonna cite every single time Matthew treated you like balls?
Your point?

That was a dumb question.

Not really. Nearly every gamethread is closed because of the number of posts.
Except never on an exact number.
Let alone a countdown of 15.
You've got butthol backing you up
But you could still say "15 more posts until a new thread".
Counting comments is annoying/impossible when they come so quickly
That's just it. They weren't coming quickly.

It was a slow gamethread.

You reeeeaally wanna win this one huh?
He can't.
Well, he's putting quite the effort in.

Which is commendable I suppose.

If I were you, I would've quit while you were ahead early on in this thread.
The Fifteen moonphases was not a bad quip.
Two posts down you have the Obligatory Trade Jarrod Washburn Post

It has the same topic as this post. We said what we needed to say in that one; what were we supposed to talk about here?

Photography, 1994, Pencils.
Box time
I was trying not to remind them.
At least our comment is... regressing?
*Er, commenting.
Rumor has it that I enjoyed this comment
Also

You guys are the worst sexiest commenters ever

FTFY

Soooo how about that Jarrod Washburn huh?
Has there been a single on topic post in this thread?
No, Baker, the M's should not keep Washburn.
But he's for real!!!!
As was Aaron Sele in 2005.
And Julio Mateo [any year]
And Bucky Jacobsen in 2004.
Those are bad comparisons.
I feel nauseated just thinking about not trading Washburn
Not to worry!

Only one more season until we give him a five year extension.

Make Vidro and Silva eat him.
GOD

I HATE HOW THIS TEAM THINKS

I knew after yesterday there would be talk of keeping him. STUPID

Baker != this team
This team !=intelligent.
I say this in the most lovingly way possible but you remind me of Pete the Repeat Parrot
Therefore

Baker=intelligent

Baker's line of thinking often = this team's line of thinking
I think he's just brainstorming
There are Baker posts I want to read and Baker posts I don't
I blame Canada.
They're not a real country anyway.
Aww. I lost all of that!
Did you click refresh?
No, it just disappeared!

Of course I hit refresh!

That wasn't too bright.
Have you read the book Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions?

It’s a Mad Magazine spin-off. You might like it.

Coach Owens justifiably slams a silly question.

I never thought I’d see the day. It’s like he came back from winter league with a new sense of purpose. He might crack the top ten LL prospects list this winter.

HH will pick him up in the Rule V though.
Rule what?
Rule Five?
You're removed from the active roster long before Coach.
The 40-man's all that matters.
You're not on that either.

We have a year before we’d have to put you on.

I'm out of options though
Have fun at HH.
Bluebird Banter will take him in the expansion draft.
That would be pretty hilarious if he was the only poster there aside from the guy who runs the site
Because he would probably still tell him to fuck off after like two gamethreads and go back to being alone
Does Bluebird Banter really want to select anyone from our roster?
Who doesn't?

Awwwwww yeaaaah represent.

That's a shame...see ya
What sport is that?
Take a gander.
Hockey?
Is that that one that's kinda like curling?
Nah, it's the one where there's horses

who are racing.

Ok, now what?

Am I the only one who can't see the image?
I can't see it either.
Well I can see it, and that's what counts
What's it of?
A gander stupid
Again, can't see the image.
See what it's replying to.
Thanks Coach.

Without you, I could have never put 2 and 2 together.

This here is the start of the Coach/Butthol subthread.

Non-approved posters will be banned.

Butthol's been banned.
See this is why I don't take boxing seriously, because neither do you
That wasn't a boxing
Why'd you say "is boxable?" What is boxable?

(I refreshed the page)

Calling this a forum
Seems like a silly rule
More or less silly than our shortstop?
How many team's shortstops can float in the ocean...our's can!
All that blubber helps.
Obviously less

You know, when you hide subthreads it causes the z-scrolling to malfunction, at least for me, because it wants to scroll to the new comments I can’t see but it isn’t able to.

KILL THIS PHOTOSHOP WITH FIRE
It still works if you don't refresh.
I refreshed to see my ban message
Now you're screwed.
This is really really weird.
Boxing sucks. MMA is better.
I enjoy boxing
I enjoyed boxing... years and years ago
It's really been going downhill for quite some time.
Part of the problem, aside from the corruption ;P

is that fights these days are 12 rounds of glorified sparring. We just don’t see drag-out fights like Arguello/Pryor anymore, where both guys are trying to knock each other the fuck out.

Has Almost Live been released on DVD ever?

If not, damn I wish it will. Tired of browsing youtube for my favorite scenes.

No >:(
Oh well, off to watch Green Riverdance again.
We should start a letter writing campaign to King 5.
No, we should do an online petition!
RIP Rumors thread.
I was wondering if the thread died, or I lost my connection.
Before it dies...

Will the M’s use Bedard’s MRI/injury status as a reason/excuse NOT to trade Washburn?

Think of the smart thing to do, turn it on its head, and you have your answer.
I hadn't thought of that before

God I hope not

Well, they're finally admitting that Bedard's DL stint wasn't just a paper move

his shoulder’s sore, and not getting any better.

A smart team judges the Washburn thing separately from Bedard’s injury, because it doesn’t matter at all if Washburn might make the M’s marginally more competitive in 8-10 more games versus RRS or Ryan Ketchner. But the M’s would have to admit that they aren’t trying to win more games by trading Wash, and that’s what they’re reluctant to do. For reasons that nobody else comprehends.

I can just see some press conference with Lee or Armstrong telling gullible reporters that the team COULDN’T trade Wash, with the injury to Bedard, the injuries in AAA, RRS wasn’t ready, Batista still struggling, blah blah blah owe it to the fans best chance to win timing didn’t work out etc.

And that's a shame

because on the field and in the standings, it’s obvious the team is done for and has been done for in 2008 for months.

Nah. See that would require what we call "thinking".
At least, thinking straight and reasonably.
The idea's neither straight nor reasonable
You missed the point of my post.
Is your argument that the M's will do the smart thing

and trade Washburn because the ALTERNATIVE would require thinking?

That’s insane.

just insane enough to WORK!

Nope. They just won't think of using Bedard's injury as an excuse to keep Wash.

They’ll keep him because “Oh, hai, he’s pitching well.”

You know

its almost come to the point where reading LL reminds me of a lot of the ancillary crap we had to sift through on the old ESPN boards circa 2002-2003.

Its almost not fun to read anything but the posts these days.

Hey, it's not easy when your team is tied for the second worst record in all of baseball.
Your fault for reading it.
I skip over 90% of the comments these days

So meh.

Over at USSMariner I typically look for only DMZ, Derek, Jeff Nye comments and if they are interesting I'll read backwards up the comment section.
USSMariner is unreadable

aside from those three.

Dave?
Fuck Dave, he's terrible.
Seriously, he said Jose Lopez was bad at something

burn the witch!

I guess these are the places you gravitate towards, segmentation_fault.
Maybe

I blame moving every 2 years as a kid. I can’t stay around any group of people for a prolonged period without getting tired and wanting to move on.

At least there's more variety here.
Comments just need less meta-wank
