I'm caught in the middle of a pretty busy week,so I don't anticipate having all that much time to write, but suffice to say that when Felix stinks it up like he did tonight, it's safe to just completely dissociate and wait for October. These are going to be six long weeks.
Biggest Contribution: Adrian Beltre, +5.0%
Biggest Suckfest: Felix, -18.9%
Most Important AB: Ibanez DP, -12.4%
Most Important Pitch: Quentin double, -7.9%
Total Contribution by Pitcher(s): -17.6%
Total Contribution by Lineup: -43.1%
Total Contribution by Opposition: +10.7%
(What is this chart?)
I was going to say something about how Felix's bad night could be at least partially explained by him getting less vertical break on his pitches, but after poking around a little bit, it appears as if tonight's pitchers were getting unusual pfx_z readings across the board. In each case it looks like the pfx_z was high by ~2-3 inches. This is intriguing, to say the least. I'd love to hear an explanation of how such a phenomenon could take place.
(Note: exhaustive research was not performed. I may be off base.)

Suddenly, Felix has an inexplicable craving for bananas.

Also, Clayton Richard's first win
Somebody post that Slumpbuster pic.

Helping contenders too.

I hate it that Felix Day has become (for me, at least) less a cause for celebration
and more a cause for worrying that I’m going to be disappointed by his performance (or worse) yet again. I still have faith that he’s going to become the pitcher he’s capable of becoming sooner than later, but Goddammit it’s frustrating watching someone with so much talent fail to perform to expectation.

So, we wait for the offseason?
So the Mariners can do THIS year’s version of Washburn/Vidro/Bedard?
Is there a point where we get out of the cycle of suck?
eponymous_coward - August 20, 2008
Possibly when the new GM is hired.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the guy that traded for Bedard and Vidro and signed Washburn is gone.

Sarcasm?
Is there reason to believe another Bavasi type won’t be brought in?

There's no reason to assume otherwise and give up all hope.
This same front office once hired a GM who put together a 116-win team. It’s not a if this franchise has never put together a winning team.

And it's not like there are no signs of hope anyway
We have a few outstanding and/or potentially outstanding young-ish pitchers in Felix, Morrow and Bedard, some very good talent in the low minors, and a few decent players in the upper minors, as well as Lopez, Wlad and Clement at the big league level (AND BRYAN LAHAIR!). We’re also probably going to get an elite prospect with our draft pick, since as long as signability isn’t a concern it’s pretty hard to mess up a top-3 pick that badly.
I’m excited for our future, especially if it comes with a competent GM (and a no-hitter or two from the King would be nice as well)

So long as this ball doesn't represent the future...

Obviously this is a concern
but JEsus can we hold off until they hire the new GM
