I love it. I absolutely love that Washburn received both the loss and Oakland's version of a shelling. I know it's selfish and mean-spirited, but the Mariners are the ones who made me this way, and at the end of the day the important thing is that I have something to smile about.

Indeed. What a wad.
CapSea - August 24, 2008
He'd make a better GM than what we've got.
JI - August 24, 2008
Seems rare that the biggest suckfest is only at 8.5%
This was a total team effort. Who says they’re not trying?

Best part about last night
is my row one the Pizza box race in the 2nd inning. And if you were there I was the idiot waving at the camera when the boxes were only about 1 person down from me.
Scruffy Lefty - August 24, 2008
Won not one
jesus I’m dumb
Scruffy Lefty - August 24, 2008
How do you win the pizza box race?
Wilder. - August 24, 2008
Your row is randomly selected
and you just pass a stack of pizza boxes down the row.
Scruffy Lefty - August 24, 2008
I thought it was randomly selected.
That’s pretty sweet that you won.
Wilder. - August 24, 2008
Oh, I was there! And was looking at the screen because there wasnt really anything more interesting last night
’Grats!

WARNING: STUPID PITCHING STATS AHEAD
Silva+Washburn+Batista= 13-40
I’m pretty sure no other team in baseball is paying 3 guys 30+million (with each of them making 8 million plus) for a .245 winning percentage out of 53 decisions.
Yes, I know, win-loss. I bet the combined tRA isn’t very good, either.
So, are we convinced yet that the Mariners don’t know how to evaluate pitching talent (beyond knowing Felix and Bedard are pretty good)?
eponymous_coward - August 24, 2008
I'd argue...
They mis-evaluated Bedard, too. They paid waaaaaay too much for a good pitcher when he’s healthy, but he isn’t healthy (and probably never will be).
PositivePaul - August 24, 2008
If it's stupid, why even mention it?
Matthew - August 24, 2008
Is there up-to-the-minute tRA available?
If not, all we have are stupid pitching stats, no?
eponymous_coward - August 24, 2008
Yes?
Graham MacAree - August 24, 2008
And even if there weren't. FIP, xFIP, K rate, BB rate, hell, even ERA. Anything but wins.
Matthew - August 24, 2008
I was looking at fangraphs
and clement’s BB rate has plummeted while his BABIP has climbed back up. Are these related or just random?

Too retarded to multitask

I just woke up and watched Baldelli go deep.

That lazy bastard will do anything to avoid full out running
Dewey N - August 24, 2008
He's been refusing to play the field and it's disgusting.
