At least once Felix and Dickey leave
it will be Silva’s time to go, too.

Scary thing is, it could have been worse.
Thingray - August 4, 2008
If Zito and/or Schmidt were on that chart... seppuku?
Sports on a Schtick - August 4, 2008
Of course if we had obtained one of those pitchers, it might have prevented us from pursuing some of the others.
Thingray - August 4, 2008
Imagine having Zito/Schmidt starting, with Sherrill and Soriano keeping games close for JJ, Morrow in Tacoma learning to be a starter, and AJ out in right field.
Maybe having Barry Zito might’ve not been as bad as some people make it out to be.
Fin - August 4, 2008
Or maybe having Morrow/Dickey/RRS starting in place of Silva/Batista
Fin - August 4, 2008
Schmidt wouldn't be starting
He’d still be in Tacoma, rehabbing and getting shelled like Jim Parque.
Gomez - August 5, 2008
Well, this post made me sad.

So is there any part of this team of which I can put faith in...
that we could have an Over .500 ballclub next year?
IceStormV1 - August 4, 2008
DO THIS WITH THE RAYS!
P Brady - August 4, 2008
Too much depressing.
Although for a hahaha: Scott Kazmir: cost (players) – Victor Zambrano
dbroncos31 - August 4, 2008
Mariners did well: Felix and Dickey
Mariners sucked nuts: Silva, Batista, Washburn, (maybe Bedard)
Twins did well: everyone
Twins sucked nuts: no one (maybe Livan but 1 year 5 mil isn’t a bad deal)
oh gently caress this poo poo
dbroncos31 - August 4, 2008
1/5 is never all that bad of a deal
because at the end of the one year, if he sucks, he just goes away
seattlebruin - August 5, 2008
Yeah, reason #1 why the Weaver signing was better than the Batista/Silva signings
dbroncos31 - August 5, 2008
Think that's bad...
Take a look at the opening day rotation for the Rangers:
Kevin Millwood: 10,300,000 this year (I think 5 years, 60 million)
Vicente Padilla: 11,000,000 this year (3 years, 33 million); acquired in trade for Ricardo Rodriquez
Jason Jennings: 4,000,000 this year (1 year, 4 million)
Brandon McCarthy: 3 years service, acquired in trade for John Danks (OUCH!)
Kason Gabbard: 2 years service, acquired with David Murphy and Engel Beltre for Eric Gagne (HA!)
The sad thing is, in addition to those 5 mediocre to bad pitchers, the Rangers have had to deal with significant injuries. Which has led to their pitching and bullpen coach getting fired and starts at some point by the following:
Jamey Wright
Luis Mendoza
Dustin Nippert
Josh Rupe
Sidney Ponson
AJ Murray
Scott Feldman
Doug Mathis
Kameron Loe
Eric Hurley
Matt Harrison
Tommy Hunter
I think that’s all, but I might have missed one or two. It’s a miracle they’re above .500 right now.
GhettoBear04 - August 4, 2008
Not nearly as atrocious as the Mariners.
Wilder. - August 5, 2008
So I double checked
And Pierzynski was traded for Nathan, Bonser and Liriano. So, both Bonser and Liriano cost 1/3 of AJ in terms of players.
Sec 108 - August 5, 2008
That's true.
Forgot about that.
Matthew - August 5, 2008
The point certainly remains, though
Gomez - August 5, 2008
Don't forget by getting rid of AJ, they opened up a slot for Mauer.
Not that it affects the chart or anything.
