Not to put too much pressure on Brandon Morrow or anything but please behold the pitch that will singlehandedly put Seattle back on the baseball map. It is the pitch that will save the franchise and the pitch after which twenty years down the road mothers will be naming their children.
If this were kindergarten, I'd hate to be the guy who has to come after Morrow in show-and-tell.

Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
Me too, but I'll be leaving shortly.
Montucky - September 12, 2008
That's my personal favorite.
Thanks.
marc w - September 12, 2008
Every single thing about that pitch right down to the final location is absolutely perfect
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
Yes, and it's against Vlad.
It’s sort of like watching some nightmarish creature take an amusing pratfall.
His swing plane goes up, then down, then blaehghhhh. Beautiful.
marc w - September 12, 2008
How do you like it?
JI - September 12, 2008
I repeated "more" too many times specifically to avoid this
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
You think I'm kidding but I'm not
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
Still divisible by three
JI - September 12, 2008
He's walking off the mound before Vlad finishes swinging

Oh SNAP (literally).
ThundaPC - September 12, 2008
Here is a quote and a tale of caution.
Ron Gardehire in 2005 after Felix’s second start.
Sec 108 - September 12, 2008
Felix did have a curveball from hell
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
I know, and I miss it badly.
I am not allowing myself to get too excited about Morrow’s just yet because of the loss of the Royal Curve.
Sec 108 - September 12, 2008
I am allowing myself in this one instance to be completely irrational
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
I will shut up and allow that
My callous heart is not your problem.
Sec 108 - September 12, 2008
Now he has a curveball from heck
Gomez - September 12, 2008
Such a nice pitch my screeb is kinda named after it.
It’s usually Slurve though not Slurvey.
Slurvey - September 12, 2008
Meant screen name ah my spelling just struck out to a 12:6 curve.
Slurvey - September 12, 2008
I think I'm ok with "screeb" as slang for screen name.
Carry on.
Confess - September 12, 2008
I'm ready to rename Robert after it.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 12, 2008
Bitey
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
Appropriate for both.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 12, 2008
It's almost like the suggestion was intentional
Jeff Sullivan - September 12, 2008
You've regressed too much for me to know.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 12, 2008
Perhaps the best Simpsons reference to date
JI - September 12, 2008
The two to Vlad/Jeter
appear to go up and then down. Absolutely SICK. WMD! WMDs. He’s got WMDs!!
The other one to Wood acts more like a split. Straight, then down. Still nasty, but the first 2 are other worldly.
Montucky - September 12, 2008
It has such an erratic movement.
Slurvey - September 12, 2008
This confuses my tender heart
Robert - September 12, 2008
Might as well be
Gaylix Girlnandez

I'm just happy that everyone is spelling copyrighted correctly.
Seriously, this site spoils the rest of the Internet for me.

Graham MacAree - September 12, 2008

.Taylor - September 12, 2008
Does he throw it only with 2 strikes and 2 outs?
Schuxu - September 12, 2008
Thanks Jeff
For my BIRTHDAY present.
Because its my BIRTHDAY.
DAY OF BIRTHYNESS.
Wow that curveball is icing on my BIRTHDAY cake. With sprinkles.
Slica - September 12, 2008
I recall Meche and Pineiro having good curves too....
Don’t fall into the trap of loving curvy things. A 97 mph fastball is what makes Morrow’s world go round.
Edgar for Pres - September 12, 2008
More like a combination of the two
OlSalty - September 12, 2008
I loved Pineiro's curve and he betrayed me by taking a 1-way train to sucktown
Nick S - September 12, 2008
I miss Erik Hanson's Curve...
PositivePaul - September 13, 2008
And I think his change will be more important to his sucess as a starter
Than the good curve he is showing right now. It also seems like developing control of a curve baffles many pitchers for their whole career. A 95 mph FB and 80 mph CU are a deadly combo. The CB is a welcome surprise but I still think he needs his CU more so his platoon splits don’t kill him.
Heck, I’m amazed by him so far. With Felix, Bedard, and Morrow we are pretty well set. Maybe a couple of contract extensions this offseason for Felix and Bedard and we have an amazing rotation. I mean absolutely amazing.
Edgar for Pres - September 12, 2008
jeebus
Starts off letter high like most of his fastballs and then just dives like it has a 20-lb weight attached. Good luck with that AL hitters…
kirkd - September 12, 2008
Good luck with that, Jeff Clement.
Teej - September 12, 2008
So weird how it starts out flat
and looks almost like a fastball for a second, then it’s like the baseball goes, ‘oh yeah, I’ve got a lot of spin on me, I better start moving!’. Weird for it go from almost NO movement, to bizarro movement.
300ZXNA - September 12, 2008
A year ago Morrow was nothing but fastball, with nary a hint of an offspeed pitch. And now he has that and more.
Think about that.
Goose - September 12, 2008
Maybe...
it just takes that long for the Magnus force to kick in
nathaniel dawson - September 12, 2008
It's a Screwball not Curveball.
I haven’t checked pitch f/x, but the movement sure looks 11-5 to me, which for a RHP would make it a Screwball – only 15 mph faster than a Screwball is usually thrown.
EnglishMariner - September 13, 2008
The angled right-side view gives it that appearance
Straight ahead, the 12 to 6 movement is more apparent.
