The Phillies clinched last night, which enables them to start Kyle Kendrick, who's been the least valuable pitcher in baseball this season, and also to rest all of their regular lineup. However, what that also means is that their game today now longer has any bearing on the playoffs. Which means, if it gets rained out, then MLB has no reason to play it Monday and they'll just cancel the game.
Canceling the game means that's it. No mas. No matter what Seattle does, they cannot pass Washington without a Nationals win.
If you have some sort of anti-rain dance, now would be the time to break it out.

Nationals are tanking it
Robert - September 28, 2008
Damn you Manny Acta
The Phillies couldn’t be more helpful if they tried.
JI - September 28, 2008
My situation:
I just watched my ‘soccer’ team get beat due to poor officiating against a local rival. You all know how frustrating that is.
If the Mariners do not emerge today with the number one draft pick, I think I will punch my mum.
EnglishMariner - September 28, 2008
Funny, the Red Sox and Yankees are playing a DH today.
JI - September 28, 2008
Revenue revenue revenue.
Blicks - September 28, 2008
Impact on Division?
Actually, isn’t it because the Red Sox and Rays could still finish tied for first?
cjdseattle - September 28, 2008
How could the Red Sox and Rays tie?
Teej - September 28, 2008
REd SOx win their DH, Rays lose
JI - September 28, 2008
I didn't realize there was a double-header today.
But the Rays have the tiebreaker anyway, right?
Teej - September 28, 2008
Correct.
JI - September 28, 2008
If TB loses today.....
and the Red Sox sweep NY, then they have identical records.
cjdseattle - September 28, 2008
And the Rays have the tiebreaker
Graham MacAree - September 28, 2008
And the Wildcard has to play LAA, right?
cjdseattle - September 28, 2008
Yes

Unsustainably high called strikes?
EnglishMariner - September 28, 2008
Sounds plausible.

The Nats have dumbed down their lineup
Zimmerman, Guzman, Dukes, Milledge, and Boone are all not in the lineup.

A 1-0 Nats lead through 5 innings
and then a downpour would suit me just fine.
Matthew - September 28, 2008
The Nats #3 hitter has a .214 batting average.
Aaron Campeau - September 28, 2008
And the Phillies #3 has a .592 OPS.

Scrupio - September 28, 2008
The Phillies could always put in Adam Eaton.
Making A-ball hitters look good.

Because that would be an upgrade from Kyle Kendrick
Scrupio - September 28, 2008
No, it wouldn't.
I know ERA is flawed, but a 7+ ERA for the AA Reading Phillies is pretty ugly.

Aaron Campeau - September 28, 2008
The Phillies lineup is worse
JI - September 28, 2008
How does So Taguchi still have a job?
Omerta - September 28, 2008
Bullshit
It isn’t cool that the Nationals get to tank their game, while we’ve been getting HRs from Yuni and Kenji all weekend. Here’s hoping Strasburg signs with them and then immediately demands a trade to SD.
katal - September 28, 2008
If the Nats do manage to win
and I’m not saying anything, but there’s ways for the home fans (like say, Seattle), to force a forfeit…

Oh, right
I was thinking of the game being cancelled.
By the way, what WOULD happen if the Nats won and the Mariners game was cancelled and there was a tie in the standings?

JI - September 28, 2008
This is an unfamiliar situation for me and I am learning.
Albeit quickly.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
You acquit yourself quite well.
JI - September 28, 2008
I do in fact conduct myself satisfactorily under stress.

Graham MacAree - September 28, 2008
I don't know if I want to see you in June...
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
God, I feel bad for anyone who actually paid money to attend this game
seattlebruin - September 28, 2008
What sane man would pay money to see the Nats play?
I say this as someone who’s paid money to see them play several times.
esoteric - September 28, 2008
You paid money?
People I worked with gave away tickets like candy at parades. I went to probably 25 games and didn’t pay a dime.
andrewgolfsalot - September 28, 2008
C'mon Brewers and Mets!
End tied!
JI - September 28, 2008

JI - September 28, 2008
I'm not sure this place is populated with men, either.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
Maybe if we put Elijah Dukes in a wig...
JI - September 28, 2008
Not that hard, Washington, Two more runs. Two more.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
LET'S GO MARLINS.
And Jesus Christ, Brewcrew, get a fucking hit.
esoteric - September 28, 2008
No one game playoff?
JI - September 28, 2008
Will someone explain this, please?
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
If the Brewers and Mets finish with identical records
we get the ultimate form of extras!
JI - September 28, 2008
I just want the Brewers to win.
I don’t want it to get fancy. I hate the Mets so much I want them to fail here, now, on their special day with all the veterans there to see it.
esoteric - September 28, 2008
I want the Brewers to win
but I also want baseball tomorrow
JI - September 28, 2008
I really enjoy David Wright.
But a New York-free playoffs would be a wonderful thing.
Teej - September 28, 2008
He refused to give a moment of silence to the Seattle Supersonics
and at the request of Kenny Mayne nonetheless. Fuck David Wright.
edddgar - September 28, 2008
When was this?
Robert - September 28, 2008
That song is amazing
Robert - September 28, 2008
Reply fail?
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008

That's...so much gay.
BrianL - September 28, 2008

Teej - September 28, 2008
But

Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
But

kentroyals5 - September 28, 2008
Seems like it could be Louisiana.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
We are picking second
Robert - September 28, 2008
Yes.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
Three more innings
JI - September 28, 2008
Perhaps the Patriots will pass on Bledsoe
Robert - September 28, 2008
Notre Dame is a more noteworthy program
JI - September 28, 2008
I just get worried about having a cougar running the offense.
Robert - September 28, 2008
I miss Jason Gesser.
Teej - September 28, 2008
So do I
Robert - September 28, 2008
Wait no I don't
I think its Kegel that I miss
Robert - September 28, 2008
Gesser was good. Kegel wasn't.
Teej - September 28, 2008
Who was the one that thought a UW helmet was a eligible receiver?
Robert - September 28, 2008
I believe that was Kegel.
Gesser wasn’t an amazing athlete, but he seldom made mistakes. Kegel was a mess. (He was related to Ryan Leaf.)
Teej - September 28, 2008
We used to score points when we were good.
JI - September 28, 2008
Its cute how some people still hoped we could get the first pick
How innocent they are
Scrupio - September 28, 2008

It's the Nationals.
andrewgolfsalot - September 28, 2008
It's the Nationals.
BrianL - September 28, 2008
It's the ass end of the Phillies roster
JI - September 28, 2008
It's the ass end of the Nationals roster, too.
andrewgolfsalot - September 28, 2008
Better than the top end vs. the top end
JI - September 28, 2008
It's the Nationals
Jeff Sullivan - September 28, 2008
I feel so honored.
andrewgolfsalot - September 28, 2008
Sabathia has given up two hits and one unearned run.
And the Brewers offense has completely disappeared.
It’s just not fucking fair.
esoteric - September 28, 2008
:-(... It's not like the Cubs are trotting out good pitchers
Blicks - September 28, 2008
You know, if the Nats go ahead and lose
this will become the first game I have rooted for the Ms to win (since it will no longer matter), since May.
Matthew - September 28, 2008
Agreed
In fact I want Washington to lose
Robert - September 28, 2008
If the Nats go ahead and win
this will be the first game I have rooted against the Ms
darmok - September 28, 2008
What?
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
Couldn't bring myself to do it until just now
darmok - September 28, 2008
This makes no sense.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
It does.
Garces - September 28, 2008
If one is a Mariners fan, why would one root against them when it no longer matters?
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
No, I would be rooting against them if the Nats win
darmok - September 28, 2008
Ah ha I read that wrong.
No longer confused.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
We wouldn't have been in this position if you just rooted for them in the past
Robert - September 28, 2008
Sorry it was hard
darmok - September 28, 2008
How is it hard?
I hate 95% of these fuckers on a personal level
Robert - September 28, 2008
It's still gonna be hard
I don’t hate that many of them…and how can I root against the ones I like?
darmok - September 28, 2008
Easy
One’s a illegal immigrant, One’s an tremendously talented retard and the other two I like only because of their name
Robert - September 28, 2008
Who do you like cos of their name?
katal - September 28, 2008
Tui! and Wlad!
Robert - September 28, 2008
We can't even lose properly.
Garces - September 28, 2008
When we get the first pick
everyone here owes me a written letter of apology
JI - September 28, 2008
It's the Nats and they only have two more chances.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
I remember when the Cards had 2 outs, no one on, facing elimination on the road
Eckstien singled, Edmonds walked, and…
JI - September 28, 2008
That's the Cardinals.
Kirsten Schlewitz - September 28, 2008
That situation was more bleak

Reverse psychology thing. When we want them to win, they lose…when we want them to lose, they win.
Slica - September 28, 2008
Strikeout. Go figure.

That would really make it perfect.

Teej - September 28, 2008
