After the Phillies' eighth inning meltdown in game 2, some people have questioned whether Charlie Manuel pulled Pedro Martinez too early. The answer is no.
It bothers me to not be able to figure it out. I was rooting for the Rays last year, even though I had the feeling they wouldn’t win. Now, I just don’t know…I do think the Angels are going to get themselves swept, however.
Because they usually don’t seem to know a whole lot about the teams they’re talking about. Also, there is this weird intermediary fuzz on all their broadcasts that are not related to crowd noise, and it’s bothersome.
Outside of that, I find it difficult to care because it’s not the Mariners.
But I’ll still watch, because it’s baseball, and I really don’t like any other sports quite this much.
Well, I thought this started at 7, so when I got in the car at 7:15, I was a little surprised to hear it was already 8-0.
I did get to hear Dave Campbell’s theory, which is that because of ESPN’s K zone and the other boxes on tv, umpires are more reluctant to call the pitch on the corner, so games go longer.
Here we go!
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
Extras!
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
No we have to wait until the end of the game for that
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
Aww shucks
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
--sigh--
go baseball.
Matthew - October 18, 2009
So
Anyone want to take bets on how many cars will be overturned in Philadelphia tonight?
section331 - October 18, 2009
This time the gunfire will be celebratory!
OlSalty - October 18, 2009
Isn't the series tied at 1?
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Yes but a win is a win
OlSalty - October 18, 2009
And a loss is a loss
And they’ll beat each other up over either.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Considering the Eagles have already lost to the Raiders
If the Phillies lose no car on the street will survive the night unscathed.
drblacknwhite - October 18, 2009
Go Phills!
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Vaseline and baby oil?
What am I about to see?
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Sounds like the Dodgers found a place for Juan Pierre
OlSalty - October 18, 2009
Bullshit
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
section331 - October 18, 2009
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Well that's not fun.
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
BOOOO
FUCKIN’ PHILLIES
gregrabble - October 18, 2009
Yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaw
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Kuroda doesn't look very confident out there.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Bullpen active in the first too.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
His performance matches his picture here perfectly
Pretty funny.
esoteric - October 18, 2009
Hah, true.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
That's actually pretty hilarious.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Woops
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
...AND HERE COME THE DODGERS!
esoteric - October 18, 2009
n.b. This was meant sarcastically
esoteric - October 18, 2009
It's 1-1, right?
All these staggered games are confusing me – and the Angels/New York games are 1-2? 1-3?
section331 - October 18, 2009
0-2
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
1-1 this series
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
OK,
That’s right. Stupid Angels.
section331 - October 18, 2009
I have to ask. In that situation, why doesn't Utley let the ball bounce and throw out Kemp at first for the double play?
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
Go baseball! Never give up, trust your instincts!
Poochie - October 18, 2009
It's not working
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
Do a barrel roll?
Poochie - October 18, 2009
I'm going to duck 'n' cover.
section331 - October 18, 2009
That's not an option
Poochie - October 18, 2009
But.....
?!??!!
section331 - October 18, 2009
You can't duck and cover in an arowing
Poochie - October 18, 2009
So I guess Kuroda isn't good tonight.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
No he isn't.
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
So I guess Kuroda isn't good tonight.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
No he isn't.
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
Somehow the double post is fitting
Big Jared - October 18, 2009
Huh... woops.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I love Loney wishing Victorino 'good luck'....
section331 - October 18, 2009
This game doesn't look very interesting anymore
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
The dodgers can score 5 runs anytime.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Go Bears!
Poochie - October 18, 2009
That's the spirit!
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
I am wondering what folks here think of
Philadelphia’s chance against New York, if that’s what happens. Is the caliber of play really that different?
section331 - October 18, 2009
I think Philadelphia has a great chance against them.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I have my doubts
I mean, for one thing, Raul vs. that puppet dude from Team America….
section331 - October 18, 2009
Raul isn't even their 4th best player.
They have a lot of really good players, just like the Yankees.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I'm just saying
That’s the most glaring issue I can find. Also, I was kind of joking about the Damon puppet…
section331 - October 18, 2009
Well, if CC pitches well, and makes 2-3 starts, he could shut down the lefty heavy lineup.
But as you know anything can happen.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
For some reason this year
It bothers me to not be able to figure it out. I was rooting for the Rays last year, even though I had the feeling they wouldn’t win. Now, I just don’t know…I do think the Angels are going to get themselves swept, however.
section331 - October 18, 2009
I don't think anyone has much of a chance against New York.
.Taylor - October 18, 2009
I hesitate to think that as well
But you never know. Maybe the Dodgers are just making Philly look good today…
section331 - October 18, 2009
There's so much luck involved, any good team can beat any great team.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Personally
I think the NYC mafia is calling the shots
oc - October 18, 2009
Nah, umpires just enjoy their power.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Heh.
I thought at first they were playing Benne Bennassi, but realized it was just Justin Timberlake.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Well this is disappointing
stupidquestions - October 18, 2009
Tell me about it
Dewey N - October 18, 2009
Somehow a game is even more boring than game one of the Yankees/Angels series!
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
Cliff Lee mowing down a lineup is something I feel like I saw a couple too many times already this year
stupidquestions - October 18, 2009
Ahhh excellent coverage by TBS
A complete re enactment of Victorino’s bat throw! WOW… Captivating stuff.
Sundevil78 - October 18, 2009
CJ Wilson just referred to them as "The Doyers" via Twitter
For some reason, I find that amusing. Not the term, just that it came out of CJ Wilson, Texas Ranger.
section331 - October 18, 2009
I appreciate that you follow CJ Wilson on Twitter.
Sundevil78 - October 18, 2009
I follow
Or try to follow, all MLB players whose accounts are verified, with the exception of Ryan Rowland-Smith, because I know it’s him.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Recently acquired Danny Gutierrez, who is from LA, has been saying this on his Facebook also
Maybe they’re gay for each other
oc - October 18, 2009
I want the Phillies to win, but gosh this is boring.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Thank you for trying LLers, but this postseason is just so boring.
I give up.
mark sobba - October 18, 2009
I really wanted to post a LOOOOOOOOOOL here.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Is it because it's roughly the same teams?
Day games? TBS?
oc - October 18, 2009
Day games? I'm about ready for bed here.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
There have been a couple of good games, but these one-sided games are boooooring as fuck.
lailaihei - October 18, 2009
I find TBS annoying
Because they usually don’t seem to know a whole lot about the teams they’re talking about. Also, there is this weird intermediary fuzz on all their broadcasts that are not related to crowd noise, and it’s bothersome.
Outside of that, I find it difficult to care because it’s not the Mariners.
But I’ll still watch, because it’s baseball, and I really don’t like any other sports quite this much.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Point 1: agreed
point 2: yup
point 3: yup
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Yay!
What do I win?
section331 - October 18, 2009
An official recognition of Mariner fandom!
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I already have like FIVE of those.
section331 - October 18, 2009
Now a 6th for your trophy case.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
You have a point
I’ll put it next to my 10th anniversary SafeCo train and Kasey Keller bobblehead!
section331 - October 18, 2009
Hahahaha, they are making fun of the Raiders.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
As well they should.
section331 - October 18, 2009
what?
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Let's go extras!
Poochie - October 18, 2009
If anyone can make it happen, it's Madson/Lidge!
stupidquestions - October 18, 2009
End please.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Well, I thought this started at 7, so when I got in the car at 7:15, I was a little surprised to hear it was already 8-0.
I did get to hear Dave Campbell’s theory, which is that because of ESPN’s K zone and the other boxes on tv, umpires are more reluctant to call the pitch on the corner, so games go longer.
msb - October 18, 2009
It did start at 7, in Texas...
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Well that sounds like its bullshit
I don’t know have accurate K Zone is, but tbs’ pitch trax is laughably inaacurate
Poochie - October 18, 2009
How can you tell?
Gameday? Or another site?
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Eyes, gameday
Poochie - October 18, 2009
Watching Cliff Lee go nuts has been pretty fun though.
drblacknwhite - October 18, 2009
Looks like Cliff Lee will go for the CGSO
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
This is starting to look shitty for those of us who like extra baseball
Poochie - October 18, 2009
Flyin Hawaiian!!!
Woooohooo
Sundevil78 - October 18, 2009
Hahahaha gosh...
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I'm starting to think the Dodgers might not come back
stupidquestions - October 18, 2009
Sager looks like he's in costume, and ready to go shoot a 70's porno following the game.
Sundevil78 - October 18, 2009
He's dressed pretty conservative tonight.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Or it's a shout out to Prince!
Sundevil78 - October 18, 2009
"Cliff Lee-- how do you explain your success in your first post-season?"
I am always amazed when an athlete doesn’t just do an EarlyBedard at a question like that.
msb - October 18, 2009
"Things went well"- Cliff Lee October 18th, 2009
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
Time to roll the cars.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I'm going to go outside
And tip over a lawn chair.
section331 - October 18, 2009
That's not violent enough.
JMKaustin - October 18, 2009
I smacked it real hard!
section331 - October 18, 2009
Looks like a Kurodabot in that pic.
seamariners85 - October 18, 2009
Horray.
