Anyone gonna watch the VWL tonight?

This would be perfect.

Go on Rauuuuul!

By 'this' I of course mean a grand slam.
I love when announcers predict pitches and are wrong.
No u's for you tonight, Ral.
?!??

“Raul Ibanez, the dangerous veteran…”

Who are these radio announcers?!

The Phillies are hitting .000 with RISP in the World Series.
Am I the only one that is rooting for the Yankees?
Other than A-Rod's mom, you're the only person on Earth rooting for the Yankees.
I want the Yankees to win...
At least the Phillies had some base runners.
Over-under on how long until someone mentions that maybe Sabathia has had too much rest?
Didn't it just kind of get mentioned?
Maybe I should be paying closer attention to these guys.
Seven days rest they said he has prior to this evening's start.
Joe Buck already alluded to it earlier.
"We've been talking about nothing but weather"

Maybe schedule the games better.

November baseball in New York and Philly!

What could possibly go wrong?

HAHAHAHA fuck you A-Rod.
This should be a quick game.
5 minute breaks will slow it down.
"Amtrak series?" Really, McCarver?
Seattle to Portland is 75 miles longer of a trip than NYC to Philly.

It takes three hours longer.

I don't think Posada would be good at pictionary.
UTLEY YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!
CC is struggling compared to the NYY/LAA series.
Nice start

LETS GO PHILLIES!

I don't really care enough about either of these teams to root, but go Phils I suppose.
Yeah ambivalence!

I know exactly how you feel.

You hear that, guys? $30M for Raul was one of the best offseason signings in history!

I hate McCarver.

Yes, because a career year at age 37 makes it the best signing ever.
Just think how good he'll be when he's 39.
And still in left field.
I am sure he will take pride in his extreme efforts.

Actually I bet he is traded to be a DH for his last year of the contract.

I switched to the TV from my laptop

and have Dave O’Brien and Rick Sutcliffe. Infinitely preferable.

Where are you getting that? 710 online is broadcasting the Brian Kenny show.
Gameday audio, I'm guessing.
ESPN

but I should probably specify that I live in England.

Pedro Calderon is going to record that quote and insert it into one of his podcasts.
I need one of these depressed Pristiq wind-up dolls.
6K's on the Yankee Empire Universe.
I still can't quite believe that Cliff Lee has become the soul-eating dominant ace that he is.

After all those years of flaky failure to live up to his talent…he’s gotta turn back into a pumpkin somewhere around the 6th inning of Game 1, right?

Man, he is a vicious bastard
Still only two years removed from tipping his cap to the Cleveland fans

as he was being booed off the field.

This is some good pitching tonight.
Cliff Lee is the anti-Batista.
Fucking Cliff Lee is incredible.
Hey look baserunners.
Go Mariners!
Has Griffey homered yet?
DP, you morons.
The umps couldn't go a whole game without a fuckup, could they?
Oh boy, here we go again.
Veteran Umpires!
Let Joe Buck make the call. He had it right within seconds.
Rollins caught the ball, and Howard tagged Matsui. Easy DP call.
The pacing of this game has never been better
Rick Sutcliffe doesn't think there's a better defense in baseball than what the Phillies have.
If this was last year he would have been right.
Well he did mention that they were second in fielding percentage

so I guess it must be true.

Just like how the M's defense was the worst in the league!
CHASE UTLEY I THINK I LOVE YOU
BWHAHAHAHAHAH

Sweet!

CHASE UTLEY!!!!!!
Yankee-killer Utley!
Damn.

Utley is winning this game by himself.

Chase Utley has some of the greasiest hair I have ever seen on a major league baseball player

Much less one who looks more or less like a normal guy with his batting helmet on.

Cano just did his best Lopez impression there.
I guess he could have dove but he realized he would not have been able to throw him out

thats why he tried to get to it stending up. I was actually impressed by his range. Tex should have taken the ball…

...dove and fielded it.
CC Sabathia has the body of Cathy after she finds out about Irving's affair with a 20 year old intern.
I'm afraid the gayness of this comment will prevent it from getting the recs it deserves.
Yeah that's been a big problem here in the past
Rec'd for I had completely forgotten about Cathy.
Left fielders are not responsible for balls hit down the right field line.

Thanks for that, Tim.

Lee's facial expression there was just priceless.
He should have made a gum bubble
Like Will Clark, that would have been awesome.
That was awesome.
I hate having to sit through God Bless America

at least I missed the National Anthem today.

I like the National Anthem.

I agree with you on GBA. I change the channel. Just do the 7th inning song and get back to the game.

Hmmm.... the middle of the line-up has 2 of the 4 hits against him.
Cliff Lee - master of the cool out.
So 1st and 2nd, nobody out..

Chase Utley takes 5 pitches, 4 out of the strike zone.. and is called out on strikes. Nice job there ump.

Second chance at that grand slam, Raul!
RAAAUUUULLL
Werewolf Bar Mitzvah
Spooky scary
BOYS BECOMING MEN
MEN BECOMING WOLVES
30 Rock FTW!!!
I hope Raul strikes out so he can regress a homerun out of tomorrow's game.
This is exciting
Is it?
IS IT
Let me ask Fogel
I HAVE NO IDEA
You have to have some idea.

Besides. Jeff said This Is Exciting.

I don't even watch the games anymore
I care enough to find a free online stream because I can't be assed to go to the TV
My TV and computer are next to each other
Carve a hole in your seat and you'll never have to leave
Food?
Reach through the hole
I forgot Poochie eats his own feces
Feces aren't real food you still barf them up
This makes owning a dog seem much more expensive than I previously thought
You have to walk them too so they don't shit on your carpet
Dogs are fucking worthless
That would cause the springs to poke through make my seat pokey and therefore would cause me to get up
If you're in a different room sitting down you're still sitting down
RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL!
Yay Raul. Good for you!
This is what I want to see: bullpen meltdowns!
Go NL!
Go Real Baseball!
Aww fuck they still have the DH
AW C'MON NOW HE'S JUST SHOWING OFF
So Cliff Lee's basically the awesomest pitcher ever
I love you, Cliff Lee.
Cliff Lee's 2010 option is for $8m
Overrated I say
We should have traded for him!
We should have drafted him!
Omar Minaya traded Cliff Lee AND Grady Sizemore AND Brandon Phillips for half a season of Bartolo Colon.

Top that.

Kameron Mickolio
Adam Jones
Chris Tillman
Tony Butler
George Sherrill
Not even close.

Not even close to being close.

What are we doing
WE TRADED DEREK LOWE AND JASON VARITEK FOR HEATHCLIFF SLOCUMB
HE HAD A 1.99 WHIP
I hate to beat a dead horse, but Jones is a an All Star and Tillman hasn't made his Major League debut yet.

In the end, the Bedard trade has a good shot to push the Colon deal.

I would be SHOCKED
The worst part is that Tillman has made his major league debut

and looked fairly good given his age/development

It's not too late. Maybe we screwed him up while he was in the M's organization enough to make him bad.
His myspace still has a photo of him wearing an Angels hat

so I still hate him

This seems rational.
Douchebag!

That has to be his draft day photo

What is he, 20 in that picture?

This actually a pre-draft photo

I remember his myspace circulating around USSM the day he was drafted. This photo was there then

so probably like 17 or 18
To be fair no one has checked their Myspace in seven years
Although facebook is giving people reason to with its frequent and obnxious changes.
Yeah that's way worse than this

WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM
That is god awful. Are all myspace pages like this?
Yeah pretty much.

I still have to check Myspace daily and the headaches just get worse.

teenage girls do
Except Chris Tillman who logged in today
http://www.myspace.com/2616843
I regret not saving the pictures Felix put up on his MySpace of him and his daughter.

They would have been a fun keepsake, but he ended up deleting them before this all occurred to me.

Felix being my Myspace friend is the only reason I still have my profile
My bad. Forgot his cup of coffee.

Guess that proves he’ll never make it after all.

The Bedard trade was obviously Godawful but it is not even in the same stratosphere as terrible as the Colon trade.
You're right.

I’m biased against the Bedard trade because of how much it has affected me for the worst. The Colon trade was amusing to me then (“He didn’t go to NY!”) and was pleasing later (I like the Indians as much as I can like another AL team), so it’s been tough for me to see it as something negative.

It bugs me because the Expos might not have moved if they'd had a future to look forward to.
Wait five years and check out the difference between Gutz and Jones.

It’s going to be awhile, but I’m on pins and needles to see how they compare.

For a minute I was convinced Guti + Langerhans > Jones + Choo

But between Franklin and Jones alone, I’m content thinking of it as a wash.

It helps. Franklin is definitely a joy to watch in the field.
Jones' career WAR > Guti's, I guarantee it.
I'm going to wait and see how it turns out in the end.

Safer that way, plus I’m patient like that.

Robert will win the US presidency in 2012, I guarantee it.
No politics.
Vote Robert/JI/Nola!
Aw rabbitsfoots
A three-way ticket?

Heh heh heh!

Mumsy will not be pleased
On a related note, Do you know all presidents get one free assassination.
*Barring any career ending injuries.
Two years of Bedard vs. half a year of Colon.

And Tillman pitched in 12 games this year. He had a 5.36 tRA.

Tillman has made 12 MLB starts
Christ, Lee just breaks brains.
I am rooting for the Phillies but if Nick Swisher leads the Yankees to a WS title and wins the MVP I'd be happy.
Nick Swisher finds a way to make charity obnoxious
I love watching the Yankees made to look foolishy.
So what have I missed?
A Cliff Lee-lead gigglefest.
New York yankees have this certain look about them.

A certain look that I hate.

Bill Simmons on House in 2004
5:13 — You know Fox’s upcoming medical drama “House,” the one with the scary-looking doctor with the cane who screams “You’re risking a patient’s life!” and looks like even he can’t believe he’s the lead of the show? How did Omar Epps get roped into this one? Did he lose a bet? Isn’t there a sports movie he should be making? Should I write one during the commercials? Just tell me what to do here.
Based upon the trailers, House looked like the worst show ever

I missed the first two seasons because of that

I'm in awe that he made it an entire paragraph without a reference to Boston sports or Rocky 3.
It was in a live blog about a Red Sox game
Shane Victorino can't actually fly
You can't know that for sure
Yeah how'd he get to New York?
Amtrak
Amtrak smells
You eat your own feces
Do not
You can't know that for sure
Arf arf arf arf arf
All right back to the shed with you
I hope Poochie replies "You're the fool I pity."
TURN OFF JETER CAM

FUCKING GOD

Well Phil Coke is ugly
I don't exactly want to be fucked by Jeter either
All of the empty seats in Yankee Stadium.

Crazy.

I DONT FUCKING CARE ABOUT JETER TALKING JUST LEAVE IT FULL SCREEN
Do you read magazines?

I’ve seen at least two full-page spreads this month from advertisers who Jeter poses for, congratulating him for his historic accomplishment of passing Gehrig on the all-time yankee hit leader list.

Image if Ichiro had been a Yankee?
I imagine this all the time about Felix.

Since NY courted him after all. And just think of the hype they gave Joba, Hughes, and Kennedy (!).

Yup. And here Hughes and Joba will be traded in a few weeks for David Aardsma.
I bet none of them mentioned him still having fewer hits than Harold Baines.

I’m sure everyone’s read it by now but it’s still awesome.

It seems like I every other time I look up to the tv Jeter is on. Not doing anything, just on the screen.
I visited yankee Stadium two summers ago.

The program for the game’s cover featured a close-up of Derek Jeter against a blue backdrop. Accompanying the photo were the words “Sky’s the Limit.” This bothered me for reasons I can’t begin to articulate.

Yay it's a blowout
Yay?
Real Baseball Wins Again!
I like justifying my lack of enthusiasm
Between 3 and 6 more games and its gone

You should cherish every moment you have together

I watched hockey this afternoon
Wouldn't it be cool if they came back now?
Only if they end up losing
Why do they even bother to play the games? Everyone knows the AAAAL doesn't have a prayer
Bring in the bullpen.
HIT HIM IN THE BALLS
Cliff Lee's daughter's name is Macy?

Well now I like him even more.

YANKEE MAGIC
AND HERE COME THE YANKEES
I was about to say that!
If I didn't know better I'd think he literally hit that with his penis
Jeter has 3 hits and A-Rod has zero
When Jeter chokes, it is merely incidental.
No shut out?

YANKEES

I found that one less comical than the others.
Are they playing Blister in the Sun on the organ?
There was a game tonight?

huh.

B-Ref says that Teixeira is 3 for 3 with 2 doubles as RH vs RHP

Any way to figure out who he batted righty against?

Game log it
I'm not b-ref advanced enough to do that kind of search.
Without doing any research I'm guessing it was Tim Wakefield
It is not
How do you know?
I checked
Pretty sure it was
I wonder why he felt more comfortable against the knuckleball from that side.
Righties have hit slightly better against Wakefield over his career than lefties
I still think it's weird that in 32 career AB against Wakefield he's hit RH against him three times

but I’m guessing you are correct.

The Yankees have seen a lot more of Wakefield than the Rangers, Braves or Angels

Probably their own suggestion

Yup.
Game notes
Teixeira hit right-handed against Wakefield.
In the interest of saving face Wakefield was my first thought as well.
Now who's the dean?
Forced
Proper usage
Nope
You thesis and conclusion have to be ridiculous
I retract my question
That's a good guess.
Starting Pedro tomorrow seems dumb
Haha suck it bitches
booo

there is no just world that gives Miguel Cairo a World Series ring in 2009

I thought he was cut from the active roster?
He'll still get a ring
There are many reasons I could think of for arguing that the world might be injust.

That one had never occurred to me.

I must say I find the way he was used this year to be hilarious

He has to have come close to setting a record for littlest amount of playing time by a non Rule 5 player who was on the active rostera ll year

Except he wasn't on the active roster from June-August

Never mind

Oh, there are so many who you could say that about through the years ....
This seems like a bad reason to root for the Yankees.
I once started a fanpost of players worse than Willie Bloomquist that played on WS winning teams.

It wasn’t very funny and he was too much of a lightening rod for shit storms so I dropped it.

Lots of bad players end up with rings. Pro sports can be nutty in that way.
Like Adam Morrison

Who got a ring with the Lakers despite barely playing last year.

I got to hear the 1st, 3rd and 7th inning, between grocery shopping, and making my dad a nice pork chop dinner and driving home.

start spreading the news ……….

Lee is absolutely amazing

What a pitching performance.

Are you auditioning for a job with FOX?
No, that would be:

Jeter is absolutely amazing

What a performance.

The sad thing is that over at Pinstripe Alley, they actually think that there's media bias AGAINST the Skankees
Yeah, I just love the hyperbole by the commentators

I didn’t really notice a slant either way, I think they just run out of things to say, so it just becomes ass kiss rodeo.

Back to spicy VWL action!
Jose Macias!
Are we winning this one?
I can't find any Mariners in it
So...
There is baseball on
Are we winning this one
We are winning because there is baseball on
I think Oscar Salazar went deep
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON
Learn to speak Spanish fluently
Michael Tejera is getting his ass kicked
Who will ESPN select as the Clutch Player of 2009?

who, oh who, oh who?

Obviously not A-Rod, Jeter is my first guess
The really important thing is who's more Now.
Statement Game!?
Yes, and that statement is "We won."
I'm going to be sad when next spring rolls around, and they replace that picture of CC contemplating good eats.
