I think this of all things illustrates that there are strong forces which are deeply ignorant of logic still remaining in the baseball heirarchy
And they aren’t easily moved to change their ways because fuck it baseball is baseball and for some reason that means tradition is more important than rightness.

A big part of this is an outdated union agreement.
Even if the teams, players, and owners all understand why the Elias rankings are outdated, it would probably still take years to change.

You'd think a clever team would look at Elias's formula and sign players who are likely to have "Type A" seasons on one-year deals.

I thought this was done with regularity already. There are many reasons NY has a fantastic farm system.
Type A’s are expensive though. 2.3 WAR per year is still about 8-10 mil.
