Lookout Landing

Whom Do You Like the Least?

Miguel Batista has departed via free agency, Kenji Johjima's contract was voided and Carlos Silva was miraculously dealt away. So I am left to wonder, who is our whipping boy now? There are no bad contracts on the team, nobody whose performance vastly underwhelms their salary, or is horrible at defense, or is blocking a stud prospect.

I find myself not hating anyone on the team. The highest my disgust meter is rating is "mildly dislike". What about you? Who on the current 40-man roster is your least favorite, for whatever reason? I tried to include what I thought were the most likely candidates in the poll, but I also included a "Someone Else" option in case I missed the player in your mind.

Also, with Beltre gone in addition to the others, many a casual fan's whipping boy from 2009 is somewhere else as well. In the comments, I'd be interested to read what you think will be the player most dissed by sports radio callers.

If Cliff Lee gets off to a slow start, you're bound to hear sports talk radio callers hating on him and saying "oh god we got another Bedard! He's a lemon!"

Also, until Junior works his magic on Bradley, I’m sure he’ll be a lightning rod for criticism. Maybe even afterwards too, to a lesser extent. You’re going to get callers talking about how terrible and unprofessional it is to break bats or whatever it is he’ll do if he has a crucial K or something.

Probably the only person on that list who will be free of radio and casual fan scorn is Rob Johnson.
I wanted to vote Rob Johnson, but I didn't see his name on the list and I voted 'someone else'.

What a ninja.

So I don't listen to sports radio ever (except occasionally a quicktime of a GMZ, RRS, or Shannon Drayer interview)

I’m really trying to wrap my head around this. People can watch him and think he was a good defensive catcher last year?

Something about pitcher's having low ERAs when he was catching

I guess. There was an article about it on KJR’s website

Catcher's ERA is a big deal...

I was a catcher my whole life. Catcher/Pitcher relationship is not an easy thing, and most pitchers are very picky and very different from each other. That’s why none of the pitchers liked Johjima-san. He did the same things for each pitcher.

Mike Blowers

For talking about Rob Johnson’s catcher’s ERA

WHO THE FUCK VOTED FOR IAN SNELL
Sorry I'm new to the computers, I thought I was voting for my favorite Mariner.
I could see Ian Snell turning into the new Meche/Pineiro

Where they show potential but are frustratingly bad.

I think you've gotta give him more time before you can hold that against him though
I agree

I will. I gave those other guys plenty of time and Snell will get the same.

I did, sweet cheeks
How could you
What, do we like Ian Snell?
Yes we offer him our support because he has potential to be good and lord knows he needs it
I vote Rob Johnson!
And what happened then? Well, In WhoviLLE they say,

RC’s <3 grew 3 sizes that day.

DEAD PERSONS WALKING
I really don't like Rob Johnson.
Me either

He’s the only player remaining on the team who I actively dislike.

What's amusing is the M's are pumping Johnson at every opportunity, and it's working.

Buzz words, catch phrases, “he’s good with the pitching staff”.

Could that be any more phallic.

Pumping, Johnson, staff. This FO is genius, I’m starting to see how they do what they do.

It's the casual fan love

“Oh, he’s so great. He’s terrific with the pitching staff, and a nice guy.” That may well be, but I cringe when I see his defensive shortcomings.

Really, if Rob Johnson is the biggest problem on this team, then it’s a tough roster to dislike.

As for the casual fan? I bet Milton Bradley starts getting it from them the first time he hits a cold streak. He’s not going to get much leeway from talk radio or the average fan.

It's either Lopez or Johnson, but I guess I'll go with Lopez because he's frustrating and Johnson is a backup.
The potential incorrectness of the latter statement is why I voted for Rob Johnson
Apparently we all still love griffey
I will never hate Griffey.

I don’t like his on-field production these days, but he is a legend and I can’t ever actively hate him.

It's going to be interesting to see how awful he is.

Because his 2008 was pretty awful and last year was even worse.

Griffey won't be playing much.

He will likely only get half the plate appearances he did last year. Also, he will benefit more with the lineup Jack has built. His production may improve with less playing time.

Or, he may suck even worse.

His second half splits were pretty Sexson-tastic, and Richie never really came back in 2008 from being a flaming pile of poo in 2007.

Feline AIDS is the number one killer of domestic cats.

Wah, Wah

Let's put it this way

I’ve heard “Griffey’s going to be better because of ____” in various forms since 2000. Outside of one or two years, he hasn’t been.

At some point, you tire of hearing the “ZOMG he’s a HOFer give him his 83rd chance because I’m sure he’ll turn it around now” and just figure he is what he is, which is someone who isn’t earning his job on a MLB roster based on his on the field performance, but gets one based on his name and what he did in the 1990’s. Since the Mariners were the beneficiaries of his performance in the 1990’s, it stands to reason they’d give him a roster spot regardless of his craptasticness until he no longer wants one.

All told, I’m much better with the team handing out contracts to Griffey than to Silva, Beluga Tits and Sexson, so I’m relatively fine with this. If it’s undeserved from a baseball performance standpoint, I can understand the argument from the “we want to show loyalty to a player” standpoint, and 25th man on a roster is fairly meaningless- maybe half a win at an extreme, most likely ~0 wins.

Yeah, but I think we all know that, and have come to accept it.

Plus his contract is practically nothing. There’s just really no reason to bother rehashing the downsides, especially on Lookout Landing. They’ll be covered enough on the main pages, and no one here, at least, has high expectations.

The thing is there's no reason to think he may be better based on anything.

He’s been a 0 WAR player for a looooooong time now, and he’s not getting younger. Just accept that he’s probably about as good as any random AAA DH with zero mobility and get over it, rather than say “oh, well, he’ll do better if _”.

I feel as though you are not getting my point.

But rather than argue I am going to watch pandas slide down into the snow.

Ratchel Dratch should be on 30 Rock more.

She had a bunch of appearances in Season One and then nada afterwards. What gives?

As I recall ...

Fey wrote the Krakowski role for Dratch, then after the pilot, they (NBC?) changed up the character & recast it; Fey still wanted Dratch to have some work on the show, and so she had the various cameos

Absolutely agree

At first I am frustrated that he is resigned when he offers very little on the field, but I could never vote for him on a poll like this, I just can’t.

Griffey is my ALL-TIME favorite player. EVER. PERIOD.
That's a tough one for radio callers.

I’m going to go with developing situation, and herd mentality. Whichever story line develops first, but it could be supplanted by Big Splashy Situation! So if Morrow is hemming and hawing and not being effective, and there’s nothing else, easy target.

But if Snell has some kind of weepy mental breakdown on the mound, or reporters constantly pestering Bradley to explain why he can be a prickly bastard, resulting in a first hand demonstration of prickly bastard, bingo.

cERA

I don’t hate Rob, but I hate the fact the casual fan loves him the way they loved Boom Boom. That puts him on the top of my dislike list.

I find it hard to blame Rob Johnson for starting.

It’s not as though he fills out Wak’s lineup card. Also, he’s just not talented enough to be a major league baseball player. It’s like being angry at Kidd Valley because they don’t serve tacos. Loafie, on the other hand, does swing at pitches outside of the strike zone all the time, and he is talented enough to play in the bigs, so I choose him.

I hate him because he can't catch a baseball.
Yup. I wouldn't mind him if he didn't just blatantly drop baseballs.
So, if last years surge of dropped/missed balls turns out to be related to his injuries

you’ll be ok with him?

It would be an awfully good start.
Rob Johnson is my least favorite Mariner.

And it’s not like I hate him or even dislike him. At this point, nobody stands out as someone I can’t stand to watch.

As far as radio caller whippings boys it seems like Cliff Lee and Milton Bradley are leading candidates unless they get off to an awesome start.

I DEMAND THIS POLL BE MADE PUBLIC!

LET US ALL SEE THE GRIFFEY HATERS AND SHAME THEM WITH SHAME

ANOTHER GRIFFEY VOTE WHAT THE HECK

THAT IS 3 PEOPLE WHO HATE AMERICA

It's pretty easy to see who voted for whom
I voted for Hall

Yeah he can play all over the field, but do we really need another .200 hitter on our bench with Hannahan, Johnson, and Griffey already taking up space?

He was pretty clearly injured when he was playing for us last season
Staying healthy is a skill
But is it repeatable is the question?
In fairness I think I could end up hating Tui if he plays a lot
Snell and Bradley will be the new whipping boys
These are the two players I most want to see suceed next season
Sorry, *succeed*
I'm gonna go with the majority and say fuck Rob Johnson.

Bradley is an obvious choice with John Q Public, but I love him already. I like guys who are kinda batshit insane.

If you look at the poll sideways right now, it looks like Rob Johnson is the middle finger.
Normal distribution around Rob Johnson!
Maybe Jeff designed the distribution with that in mind.
Matthew, not Jeff.
Rob Johnson

Just when you think he’s sucked long enough to get benched or sent down to Tacoma, he hits a homer or picks off a guy at third or something, and you have to deal with his sucking for another month. GOD

Your team is doing pretty well...

When your least favorite player is the sophomore back-up catcher who earns league minimum and may not even start the year with the team.

Of course, since that isn't Rob Johnson

- since he’s the starting catcher and will be in the Opening Day lineup if he’s healthy - then it doesn’t really apply.

Drat that formatting quirk . . .

As I was intending to point out, Rob Johnson’s our intended starting catcher next season. Hence the opposition.

Anyone of the new guys (Figgins, Lee, Bradley) could get sportstalk reamings with slow starts

Bradley especially if he flys off the handle and gets ejected early in the season (within the first month). There will be about 12,000,000 “Oh, look out, Milton’s doing what he always does!” stories.

Jack Wilson has potential as well, since he will likely be the worst hitter in the non-Johnson category.

Wait, people are going to be upset when Bradley gets ejected?

Depending on the context I’ll likely be smiling uncontrollably and anxiously anticipating a post game interview. Angry Bradley doesn’t worry me, spiteful/hateful teammate Bradley worries me.

This is sports radio we are talking about

They will easily turn angry Bradley into spiteful Bradley with no evidence.

Wonder what this poll will look like after Milton Bradley plays here for a year.
Rob Johnson, and it isn't even close
But what would you prefer

Someone that can bat that Felix hates pitching to

Or someone that can’t that he loves pitching to?

I have no say in it so it doesn't matter which I'd prefer

I just don’t like Rob Johnson

False dilemna
But those are the only two options ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I voted for Morrow

I know his development hasn’t been handled properly since he got here, but the comments he made last year regarding starting off as a closer because he didn’t want to go to Tacoma really made me dislike him. That said, I really don’t dislike him all that much, and am comforted by the fact that it was hard for me to choose a player that I had any issues with

That was just the diabetes talking
Same

For the same reason. I am actually hoping we trade him because I don’t think he’ll ever be a consistent quality starter, but that’s just, like, my opinion, man.

Me too

But not really cus I hate him or anything, but because he’s so goddamn frustrating with nasty stuff and mediocre results

It won't be a bad contract if he performs

But we’re paying $15 million a year for Bradley. He’s got to perform and be cool or he could easily become hated around here.

That's not the right way to look at it though

We’re really only paying him 3 million a year because we were going to have to eat that 12 million regardless of whether we got him or not

What if we had released Carlos Silva, then signed him to a minor league contract?

Now he’s only making the league minimum!

So Silva should still be on that list then?

The money’s going somewhere

You don't understand what a sunk cost is.
You're not making sense

What does sunk cost have to do with it? We’re paying $30 million to have Bradley on the team this year.

Every salary is sunk cost if you want to look at it that way. So you’re saying that because something is a sunk cost, it’s not a bad contract?

You really don't get this, or are you just trolling?

We were going to pay Carlos Silva $24M over the next 2 years to sit on the DL, pretend he had an injury, and otherwise suck. Silva has absolutely nothing the Mariners need that cannot be given by a Jason Vargas. The money we were paying him was essentially gone.

What people are doing is assuming it’s still gone, because, well, it is. The Mariners traded $24M of dead weight for $30M of weight that might not actually be dead. That makes the net result signing Bradley to a 2-year, $6M contract. The bad contract was already there before the deal. This is just a little bit bigger and perhaps not as bad.

He has a reasonable point, people. Don't be dicks.

He’s saying that either:
Carlos Silva should be on the list since counting that 12M/year as a sunk cost means that Silva is responsible for it or you count Milton Bradley as a 15M/year contract.

I happen to disagree, but that doesn’t mean he’s an idiot.

Silva should be on the list except that he's not actually a Mariner anymore.
So are you saying we don't have a bad contract now?

You can look at it two ways. We’re either paying Bradley $30 MM over 2 years (which sounds like a bad contract to me), or we’re paying Bradley $21 MM over 2 years (which isn’t as bad but still doesn’t look good to me) and Silva $9 MM over 2 years (which really sounds like a bad contract because he plays for another team and we have absolutely no hope of getting any return for that money).

So, which is it? One way or another, we still have a bad contract on our hands, no?

The second scenario is how most of us are looking at it, yes

Additionally, it was an albatross most of us were resigned to wear for the next 2 years, so in a sense we’re thinking we still have it but just have a cheap LF/DH as well.

We still have a bad contract, its just a lot less bad now.
I think the logic is that most players have a $$ value.

Like an eBay auction. You can put any one of our players up for MLB auction and chances are high that a decent % of their salaries will be covered by the auction, given these players value. Silva had a 0$ value. He was like monopoly money at a bank. We traded that monopoly money for a large number of ripped bills that at any point could be taped together to be real money. Silva was a sunk cost because he had no value and we got someone for him that could have real value for only 3m more.

I mean, I understand what you are saying as well – we still have a bad contract on our hands, but we traded monopoly money for a bag of ripped bills, and any time that you can do that you win. It’s hard to care about the value of Bradley’s contract when we were never getting that money back anyway.

That I can agree with, yes

I would certainly rather have Milton Bradley on our team for $30 MM than Silva for 25. While there are risks galore with Bradley, we stand a better chance of getting something back for our money.

Not every salary is a sunk cost because most players perform.

Carlos Silva was a sunk cost because he was not going to play and we still had to pay him. That sunk cost was worth $24 million against the team’s budget.

Jack turned that sunk cost into a productive player. It cost him an extra $6 million to make the deal happen, but he turned twenty-four million non-producing dollars into producing dollars.

The deal is essentially 2/$6 million because that $24 million was already on the books.

Every salary is a sunk cost, yes

All Major League salaries are guaranteed, so the team will pay them no matter how the player performs.

That's not how it works.

A player’s contract becomes a sunk cost when they can no longer perform. Silva was not likely going to play on this team again. It was more valuable to the Mariners to shelf Silva on the DL and give his roster spot to someone else.

If I'm not mistaken

a sunk cost is when you can’t get it back. But if we can essentially sell our players for $X, they’re not a sunk cost. For example, we just got Cliff Lee and he costs a guaranteed 9 million, but we can sell his services elsewhere, so his contract isn’t a sunk cost. .

Silva had no value, so his $$ was lost forever.

I think I'm beginning to see nathaniel's point.

Although I think he’s basically stating the same thing everyone else is, just in a different way. He’s right in that all MLB salaries are sunk. If we released Silva, we’d have to pay 100% of his salary unless some weird bidding war happened and someone else signed him for 2 years and $24M.

The disconnect here is that everyone else realizes that and that’s exactly why they’re calling Bradley’s salary 2 years @ $3M per. Yes, that thinking essentially means that we’re still paying for Silva, but as stated we were going to be still paying for him anyway. I don’t know how else to explain this and I have an inkling that there’s more understanding going on here than is being presented in the posting so I’m going to stop before I get frustrated.

I thought we were paying him $3m total
We're paying Bradley $21 MM over the next 2 years
Well this is a helpful comment
Thank you

Glad it helped you out. You can always rec it if you feel so inclined.

And we were paying Silva $24M.

He only gets one M though.

HOW THE FUCK ARE TUI AND WILSON MORE LIKED THAN GRIFFEY
I sense Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraidas fans are posting in here!

And driving down the Tui dislike! As it stands now there are enough Griffey haters to re-enact 9/11 and still have enough left over for Oklahoma City, the Atlanta Olympics, and Jar Jar Binks.

It's because Griffey is black.
This isn't Bleed Cubbie Blue.
Less disliked doesn't mean more liked.
Yes it does?
No it doesn't?
It sort of does. But here! Fixed!

Less disliked doesn’t mean more liked.

Wait, that still doesn't work.
Um... Sliding pandas!
Tactical diversion!
.
Peter (Han Solo): We’ll be safe enough once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers. We’ll lose’em.
Chris (Luke Skywalker): Uh, that was your maneuver? Moving slightly to the left?
Peter (Han Solo): Well, I mean we’re not in the same place we were, huh? That ought to confuse’em.
Chris (Luke Skywalker): Yeah, but you hardly did anything. You just started listing lazily to the left. I’m pretty sure they can keep up.
Imperial Officer 1: Where did they go?
Imperial Officer 2: There they are! They’re listing lazily to the left. Go left, left!
Imperial Officer 1: Boy, this guy knows some maneuvers.
No that does work.

Just because you dislike a guy less than another doesn’t mean that you like them.

I say whichever gamble doesn't pay off becomes hated by the radio callers

Snell or Morrow are two players who could just not improve and get booed out of town

*Snell and Morrow
But we like Snell!
We love him!

But we are also cautious about potentially buying his jersey because he could easily become hated for not improving

I suggest, in that case, the purchase of a Chone Figgins jersey and a Snell temporary tatoo
As of right now, 16%, or 146 of you suck
Make that 151 and climbing, now
From my experience far more than 16% of people will suck from any random smpling.
I really don't get all the Lopez hate. I like him, personally, and I'd even go so far as to say I'd be sad to see him go.
I'm indifferent.

If we can ship him off for something nifty and replace him with someone like Orlando Hudson for a little while I’d be happy. If not, oh well.

No, it's not that

People just pretend to hate him to piss off seattlebruin and hope he tells them that a killer whale will eat their nuts.

I know that makes no sense to you.

There's no way all ~200 or even close to all ~200 voted for that reason.
I voted for him

For other reasons, but now that I’ve discovered that it baits seattlebruin, I’m retroactively changing my reason to that. I’ve spoken to the other 199, and they’re doing likewise.

And yes I'm well aware of the seattlebruin baiting
He's fat and lazy and swings at terrible pitches
Yet he's still a league average player. Is it because of the fact that he has potential to be better?

Because that could be said about other players as well. Beltre for one, and everyone here loves him.

Beltre played otherworldly good defense.
I know that. My point is that it doesn't seem like a player not reaching his potential should be a good enough reason to hate him.

At least not if the player is still pretty good.

hate? no. like least? sure.

This poll isn’t about hating. If I’m trying to decide between two players who I’m basically indifferent about (Johnson and Lopez), I’ll probably pick the person who doesn’t seem to be reaching their potential.

It's because I don't enjoy watching him play

I don’t care how many wins he was worth

Alright well that explains why you don't like him

I’m still curious as to why he has 233 votes.

232 other people don't like watching him play either?
Because "Least liked" does not necessarily mean "disliked."

As in “Which is worse, winning $10,000 or winning $1,000,000.”

I guess that could be why. Don't know how anyone would possibly like Rob Johnson more though.
If I were to guess, it would be because he's never had that much potential and is considerably less relevant.

Otherwise I have no idea.

If you're comparing Lopez to $1,000,000

I think your argument is invalid.

Your hatred of Jose Lopez is irrational

We can’t just kick an asset to the curb because he can be a bit frustrating at times.

I bet he smells bad
I am not taking that bet
How could anyone like someone so unhygenic
Oh come on give they guy a break

he was a 2 win player

A 35% o-swing rate is enough to upset me a lot

It’s because a modicum of plate discipline would make him good rather than just average. 3.8% walk rate? Are you kidding me?

There’s almost nothing as annoying to me as watching a guy swing, and swing, and swing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been like “just fuckin’ stop fucking swinging and walk your way on base. fuck. fuck. [ball in play. out.] fuck.” It drives me nuts; the percentage of pitches he swung at out of zone is 8% higher than the percentage of his balls in play on which he successfully reach base. It’s completely infuriating to watch.

This gets at it for me.

Look, baseball is a hard game. Only a select few people actually have the talent to be good at it. I just can’t generate dislike for players who aren’t good at the game but whose managers insist that they are or where circumstances have allowed them to carve out a larger career than they deserve. Rob Johnson goes on that list. So does Wladimir Balientin for that matter.

Lopez is a completely different animal. He does seem to have the bat control and power befitting a major leaguer but wastes it on plate discipline that’s so poor as to be intentionally bad, and he didn’t get his nickname around these parts for not loafing around in the field. So yeah, between Rob Johnson and Loafie, the majority of my ire goes at the latter guy. I do wince whenever Johnson’s in the lineup but I’d wince the same if they put Justin Timberlake in the lineup and asked him to catch. Maybe a little less owing to how he did at one time bring sexy back.

Ichiro?
Ichiro brings a lot to the table

besides an extremely unusually approach to the plate that is still much better than Lopez’s. He walks more, he strikes out less, and has an uncanny ability to get on base on balls in play. He has a career .605 OBP with 3 balls. Lopez has a fucking .477 OBP with 3 balls. The AL average was .580 last season.

Lopez has a fucking .477 OBP with 3 balls. That’s the reason he’s frustrating. I don’t hate the guy, on the level of whether I think he’s a nice, likable person, I suspect that the answer is yes. But from the perspective of watching him play, he’s no fun to watch.

Yeah I just thought is was funny because

people complain about the hacktastic approach but only when the player isn’t that good. Lopez could be better if he walked more but that isn’t who he is. He’s gonna have low OBP and a decent SLG. He’s gonna swing at alot but make a lot of contact. If he learns to take a walk that’d be great and all of a sudden he’d go from a 2 win player to a 4 win player. It isn’t easy to walk. Most guys will never be able to tell if a curve is gonna end up off the plate or not. Lopez probably will never learn but thats ok. Accept him for what he is. He isn’t a bad player right now. If he improves then take it. There are a lot of guys out there who are a lot more frustrating to watch hit than Lopez because at least he can make contact and always is a threat to barely pull a ball over the LF fence.

'Liking' someone is entirely a subjective emotional feeling.

I didn’t vote for him based on a cold analysis of his overall value to the team. If that’s what it was based on, Griffey would of course win. He has the least on field value of anyone on the roster. But it’s hard to not like the Griffster.

I find Lopez’s approach at the plate highly annoying. The idea of what he could be with a better approach is even more annoying because it’s so tantalizing but we all know it probably will never happen. I like him the least but I don’t actively dislike him.

What is so awesome about this team right now is there is no one I don’t like let alone hate. There is no Vidro, Sexson, Silva, Sand Frog or Everett to hate. There isn’t even a Washburn or Willie to dislike. I’m at a loss for words to express how wonderful this makes me feel.

It’s like we’ve suffered this long terrible winter for so long and now spring is finally in the air.

Bradley...I am so tired of the continual dissapointment he has brought to the Mariners
Is this sarcasm?

Because if it isn’t, you can at least make the effort to spell your “disappointment” correctly.

It's sarcasm.

He’s not even on the team yet, how could he have brought “continual disappointment?”

I'm inclined to think it wasn't sarcasm, for three reasons.

1. He voted “someone else” in the poll
2. He’s a Raiders fan.
3. He posted this in the past.

And 250 comments later in like 30 other threads he's still around, so I'd be inclined to at least be nicer if you are going to question the seriousness of his comment.
You're right, I apologize for coming off as a little dickish.

But you’d be surprised with the amount of casual Mariners I’ve spoken to who have expressed the same sentiment — that they’ve been disappointed with this trade the moment it was announced and it’s going to lead to an implosion of the team next season.

Meh, it's not the question so much as the spelling correction.

I wouldn’t be shocked if someone came here and said the exact same thing and was serious. And then it would be funny, because hilarious commenting would ensue, and all would be right at Lookout Landing, home of the massively awesome and overused pile on. Ah, us.

The inner spelling nazi is too strong in this one.
The pile on that devolves into personal, rather than idealogical, attacks needs to be retired, dead meme style.
It's very clearly sarcasm
Hey, so is this sarcasm?

I believe that you are a Raiders fan and are therefore incapable of sarcasm. Additionally, there is a misspelling in your post.

Was this comment necessary?

It was a simple misunderstanding.

Is any comment necessary?

I understand that sarcasm is not easy to pick up on the Internet, but Jesus H. Christ, I am a freaking moron and I picked that up. I have a degree in English, for the love of God! The bar does not get much lower.

Stop. Seriously.

There was no need to re-hash it.

Admittedly my response was rather assholeish, but come on.

I didn’t recall him posting before and made the assumption that he was in the same category of newer posters that have showed up in the last week and expressed similar opinions.

If there is one thing that being a Raider fan has taught me

it’s that sarcasm is essential to the enjoyment of fanhood. And maybe I should have spelled it diss-apointment.

Enjoy Charlie Frye.
Lopez has been a league average player the last few years

Much as he disappoints me, I can’t justify voting for him.

Its been over a year.

And im still used to voting for Willie Bloomquist in these polls.

Gotta go Johnson. And shame on the Anti-Lopezers! Lopez is the greatest thing to arrive since mankind!

Morrow because he has a lisp
He does?
Yeah. He sounds really, uh....I'd rather not say it...
Is there a problem with that?
Don't be thilly!

I listened to an interview with him and didn't hear it is all.
I talked to him once last year and he didn't sound the least bit like a batty boy
Huh maybe it's just me. He sounded like a Valley Girl every time I heard him being interviewed.
Where's the Betancourt choice?

He’s still (sort of) on the payroll….

The poll is least favorite Mariner though, not least favorite player we're still kinda paying for.

And now that Yuni is mostly another team’s problem I don’t really hate him anymore. Now he’s just amusing.

After not being a fan of baseball to long

Unless Griffey (legend that he may be) completely gels the team together his place on the roster is waisted I feel. So had to vote for him (tickles and all)

I can easily see a Bradley ejection followed by a losing streak creating a perfect storm of hate

I have at least 3 or 4 friends that are convinced that Griffey’s influence on the team by just being there is a major reason the M’s were better last year than 2008, and I know they aren’t the only ones. If Bradley does something stupid, and the team goes on a losing streak, or even if say the M’s under-perform and end up winning something like 75-80 games, I’m sure Bradley will get a lot of the wrap.

THIS POLL SHOULD HAVE HAD A "I LOVE THEM ALL" CATAGORY.

Cause currently I love them all.

you gotta love these guys

i voted for a vile containing the tears of mike schooler, rich delucia and bill swift

Morrow for him wanting to start then close then start again.
Oh yeah. That blowhard.
Oh come on he's young and just trying to sort his life out
Yeah he's just doing his best, man
He should've made up his mind though

Instead he cost himself half a year that could’ve gone to development. He’s always going to be my most hated Mariner for being so wishy washy

And don't forget that we could've drafted...

Matt Antonelli!

Jose Lopez

Everytime I see Lopez get into another 10-pitch at bat where he continuously fouls off ball 4 instead of being patient, I just hold my head in shame. Rob Johnson is probably just going to end up sharing time with Adam Moore, so I don’t see him encroaching on anything.

I welcome Milton Bradley with open arms, and hope all Mariner fans do the same, and love him for who he is.

Ichiro obviously!

They say he hits Dingers like nothing in batting practice, so why doesn’t he hit 40 during the season? Add in that he doesn’t steal enough. He could easily steal 100 bags a season, so why doesn’t he?

I know some will argue that he’s already a +4 WAR player, but in my heart he could be a +10 player, so that’s 6 WAR of unfulfilled hatred making him a -2 WAR player to me! And yes, I know some of you people will argue that he’s a team player, brings his A game, and plays his heart out, maintains good conditioning (despite other players not doing so), sets himself as an example to others while not being outspoken or combative, or enjoy his selection in exotic beers; but where are my dingers and stolen bags?

He's a lefty, lefties don't hit dingers
Not to mention he pads his stats in a lost season by playing to his fullest.

So that season should not be counted at all since he was being selfish.

Yeah, it's nice liking everyone.

I wouldn’t even mind hating Bradley. I’d probably love to hate Bradley if he turned into an asshole. I mean… I never loved to hate Vidro, or loved to hate Sexson. No matter what I’m going to love everyone on this team, even if it turns out I hate them, and that’s a huge win.

But since I like to make jokes in my posts, then I hate whichever one is the most Jewey.

Voted Rob Johnson but

with him it’s not that I hate him, I just hate his irrational fans. They remind me of Willie Bloomquist fans.

“He needs to be our starting catcher. INTANGIBLES! CATCHER ERA! GRIT!”

Rob Johnson

And I actually do hate him; he’s not just my choice by default.

Bill Hall.

I don’t care if he was injured last year; he bugged the shit out of me.

Voted for Rob Johnson.

Because even though I don’t hate him, his excessive playing time compared to his skill level annoys me. But that isn’t his fault so I can’t really begrudge him that. Also, his name has that odd combination of porridge like blandness coupled with just barely not a porn star name.

Rob Johnson by far.....
I voted Griffey

I’m sick of hearing people say that him being here in ’10 is good for the team and that resigning him was important to our success.
My dislike (lack of like?) of anyone on this list cannot outweigh the Snoopy Dance still going on in my heart over the last week though.

But...

Griffey’s being here IS good for the team in 2010 and resigning him WAS important to our success.

I know right, the last week has been off the freak’n chart.

Hands down Rob Johnson.

Nobody else comes even close in my mind.

Easily Rob Johnson. Anyone that can't catch a fastball is annoying in my book.
Yeah, when a major league baseball player being paid that much money can't do something that I could do, it pisses me off.
I love Johjima!
Rob Johnson

Learn how to catch a fastball!

Rob Johnson. No contest.

I don’t really mind the cERA garbage, or his lack of production at the plate. But if I ever see him drop a 1 hop seed thrown by Ichiro on the money because he forgot to take off his mask again, I will kick myself in the gonads. That man does not know how to block the plate or put a tag on a runner trying to score. Its pathetic.

Surely there has to be at least 1 other catcher that Felix would like to throw to no?
