- The UZR numbers on Fangraphs have been updated to include arm and double play ratings. Since 2002, Ichiro's arm has been worth 31 runs above average. Juan Pierre's has been worth 42 below. Double plays don't seem to make much of a difference, although Yuni is pretty good at turning them.
- The THT Season Preview 2009 is now shipping, so if you've already placed an order, you should be getting your copy soon. And if you haven't already placed an order, you're stupid.
Does MGL calculate outfield arms like THT does?
Or does he have a different method?

Similar method, similar results

Huh...
…it looks like the throwing component boosts Endy Chavez’s UZR by about 67., and Ichiro’s arm boosts his UZR by about 81, and they each had pretty good ratings without their plus arms being factored in. Gutz seems to have an essentially average arm.
The throwing component seems to be quite relevant for some players.

Pujols has dropped from 9.1 to 8.9 for last year.
Also, THT not available in the UK, booooo!

Goddamn fist basemen with bad elbows
All they ever do is hit, hit, hit and then walk twice for every time they strike out. Can’t really turn double plays well at all.
There’s actually a secret clause in our constitution that we don’t allow your country to think about our baseball. You had a chance, but instead you incited the Indians against us and prevented the lawful formation of the legislative. We will not even think about you during the WBC. It’s against our law.

Huh.
Loafie just turned into ~league average defense for his entire career.
Suddenly, I feel very little urge to trade him. If he takes it to being a 2.5-3+ win player thanks to a bit of improvement on the bat and continued OK defense… he becomes the new Ronnie Belliard. I think that’s a reasonable top line for the guy, considering Belliard didn’t even MAKE the majors until he was 24.
Yuni, OTOH, still sucks- he goes from ~league average to start to ~pile of suck.

No sure if you can do anything about this, but I found a type O on the link you provided
Key features include:
Player and team projections for 2008
Key rookies to watch
Unique three-year projections for MLB players
Career projections
Player index
Commentaries on all 30 teams.
Shouldn’t it be Player and team projections for 2009. I for one would hate to relive 08.

Who is this Sullivan guy with the THT?
Man, they guy can’t take anything seriously. I paid good money for a season preview of the Mariners and instead of some needlessly serious analysis of Miguel Cairo, all I get is this: “Why the 2008 Mariners Lost 101 games in 25 Words of Less: Miguel Cairo was signed as a pinch-runner. He started 37 games at first base.”
This book is awesome. Thanks Jeff. You’ve combined your usual talent for wit and insight ot produce the some of the most enjoyable good analysis in baseball. It would have been worth the money for your contribution alone. Plus, you know, more fantasy projections to work with. That’s bonus for geeks like me too.
