Listen live at 12:05. Baker'll have the lineups.
To pass the time until the game starts, here's a terrifying article.
Three of the potential [closer] contenders worked during Seattle's 6-4 Cactus League victory over the Giants at Peoria Stadium. Right-hander Miguel Batista retired all six batters he faced, right-hander Roy Corcoran pitched a perfect inning and right-hander Randy Messenger, the camp surprise so far, pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

"right-hander Randy Messenger, the camp surprise so far"
hopefully, the surprise is just that he came into camp half-a-Messenger
msb - March 1, 2009
Surprise sex maybe.
Aaron Campeau - March 1, 2009
Here's something else that's scary
—- Wakamatsu said Mike Morse is back after missing a few days with the flu
-losing nine pounds in the process-but also won’t play until at least tomorrow.trying to show up Silva I guess
200tang - March 1, 2009
Go Branyan.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Phew.
I just realized I’d not run far enough down the radio dial — I was confused myself hearing someone posing the analogy of Jacob & Esau to a computer nerd with a jock brother …
So, I tuned in the right channel just in time to hear Dave & Rick opine that the likely replacements for Bowden were Bob Boone & Mike Rizzo
msb - March 1, 2009
That would be nothing short of hilarious
Corco - March 1, 2009
Are any of yous guys listening to the game online?
oc - March 1, 2009
Yea.
Just followed the “Listen Live” link on the post and, voila.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
I guess Padilla is working on his pacing.
I think we’ll be done with this game by 6:00pm PST.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
holy balls the Seattle Mariners just walked in a run
I don’t care if it was LaHair- that’s pretty crazy
Corco - March 1, 2009
Mariners up 1-0
Padilla walks in a run.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
TUI TIME
2-0 bitches
Corco - March 1, 2009
I've been impressed with Tui so far
and yes obviously it’s only a few games in to ST, I know this :)
200tang - March 1, 2009
Eh,
You’re not the only one to be simultaneously impressed and yet know you probably shouldn’t be. ;)
section331 - March 1, 2009
He has that Tui allure, I guess.
I notice that it is his picture on the TNTs link to their ST coverage …
msb - March 1, 2009
Runs!
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
I love Spring Training
It’s so optimistic
Corco - March 1, 2009
If you can not be optimistic during Spring Training
then you are probably a KC fan.
mark sobba - March 1, 2009
Morrow time.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
I think you mean
“Morrow time, bitches.”
JI - March 1, 2009
Did he just say Jerry Washburn?
200tang - March 1, 2009
Hopefully
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
I'm late to the party...
Is LaHair in the outfield?!??
section331 - March 1, 2009
LF
200tang - March 1, 2009
Yeah with predictable results.
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
LaHair makes a bad play in LF.
Ugh. Chavez please!
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
thank you for that...
section331 - March 1, 2009
WBC :(
200tang - March 1, 2009
I'd imagine that even Griffey is better there than LaHair.
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
Dave thinks he might be.
msb - March 1, 2009
He said it in a manner that leads me to believe that he believes Griffey is actually competent there.
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
Hooray LaHair is almost as good as Ibanez in LF
Corco - March 1, 2009
And better than Ken Griffey Jr.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Not according to Dave
“That ball was an easy play for Endy Chavez, or even Ken Griffey Jr….LaHair isn’t even a left fielder.”
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
We have to get Jr out there at least once in the Peoria sun
just to remind Dave that it is a long time since Jr was a good outfielder.
msb - March 1, 2009
Methinks that people will just refuse to admit what they are seeing when he utterly sucks out there.
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
Some fans didn't think Raul was a bad outfielder.
This makes it obvious that they won’t find Junior to be a bad outfielder.
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Most people haven't watched Griffey play this decade and therefore assume he's still adequate.
JI - March 1, 2009
Would it be fair to say that griffey still takes decent routes and has ok instincts?
So while his range is gone, he still looks decent to the casual observer.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
See I couldn't tell you whether he ever had these assets
JI - March 1, 2009
Gutierrez is a baller if Niehaus' depth perception is any good
Corco - March 1, 2009
That's a pretty big if.
Aaron Campeau - March 1, 2009
I don't like Morrow's goatee.
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
what?
he has a goatee??
section331 - March 1, 2009
that's not morrow on the page at mariners.com
Is it?!
section331 - March 1, 2009
Damn
It’s aardsma :-(
I should have read the caption.
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
ok....
heh – i went to find old photos, i thought i was going crazy…
section331 - March 1, 2009
Seriously though
The headline says “Listen LIVE: Morrow makes Cactus League debut” and the picture isn’t of Morrow? Grb. Just trying to rationalize my stupidity.
appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
oh, no, that's totally understandable
i was scratching my head, too….
section331 - March 1, 2009
Also...
I just found out that Morrow’s facial hair configuration more resembles a hockey playoff beard…
section331 - March 2, 2009
If it is he's really let himself go... XD
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
yeah its a bit odd...
C-Nage - March 1, 2009

C-Nage - March 1, 2009
As in my own reply was late.
Not insulting you.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
ohh no problem
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
So how is everyone doing?
mark sobba - March 1, 2009
Hungover.

appleshampoo - March 1, 2009
Nice!
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
love that gif so much
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
That is not a GIF, my good sir.
This is a GIF:

redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
ha goodtimes
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
I can't look away!
That needs music – perhaps a slower version of that damn Baha Men song they use to advertise 6 Flags…
section331 - March 1, 2009
I was hoping this would have to be retired in favor of my update...
You know, this one:
I still hope that one gets used more often over the course of the season.
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Retro Morrow!
EnglishMariner - March 1, 2009
Taylor Teagarden is such an awesome name
Corco - March 1, 2009
Mark Hamburger is better.
Kinslerhomer - March 1, 2009
And he was a monster in the last Baseball Mogul.
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
So far, Morrow is the worst closer of the bunch.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Good!
hcoguy - March 1, 2009
Has there been any footage of Yuni taking ground balls yet?
I’m curious to see if his range is improved at all, after supposedly losing a significant amount of weight.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
not that i know of
but i really wonder if cedeno can steal yuni’s job. He isn’t really helping himself right now.
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
How so?
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
He hasnt been in a spring training game yet
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
Oh you mean Yuni.
hcoguy - March 1, 2009
From the boxscores at least, Cedeno is pulling his weight.
The other day he was involved in turning two a couple times along with quite a few groundouts.
I am really rooting for him.
hcoguy - March 1, 2009
yeah i agree
i’m really not seeing any downside to him yet.
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
DP
Score now 4-2.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Hamilton out with Achilles tightness!
200tang - March 1, 2009
wow!
how long?
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
The'll probably have to look into it first.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
since it's just tightness probably just the rest of the day
and possibly tomorrow?
200tang - March 1, 2009
I'm surprised you haven't been hit with the infamous shift.jpg
If BrianL is lurking in this thread, you are in extreme danger.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
who do you mean?
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
It's a image
An image that basically tells you to use the Shift button. I recommend capitalizing the first word of your sentences.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
This.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
BrianL stopped doing it because people were being dicks about using it.
Aaron Campeau - March 1, 2009
We know his weakness! We can defeat him now!
mark sobba - March 1, 2009
hey, does anybody have the gameday link?
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
I was looking for it, too
It’s slow, but helpful in between all the milk and muscular dystrophy chatter…I can hardly wait for TV games…
section331 - March 1, 2009
I don't think it's working today.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
Well, crap.
section331 - March 1, 2009
Gameday link
Here. Slow as hell though
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
I'll take it!
Thanks!
section331 - March 1, 2009
I stand corrected.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
It seems pretty fast to me
Could it be your connection?
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
No, not that kind of slow.
It’s well behind the action.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Slow as in it takes along time to update.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
Yeah see what you mean...
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
Woodward!
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Fuck Chris Woodward
JI - March 1, 2009
Funk Blast!
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
I really hope Gutierrez's bat can do some damage this year
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
Bob Condotta with this:
From the Baker blog:
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Lowe in
Game Over.
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Nice pitching by Lowe to get out of that
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
It feels really good to be optimistic about something for once
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
Shelton!!!!
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
oooo!
chris shelton also = wants job
section331 - March 1, 2009
This whole team looks like they want jobs
Let’s see if they play like they want to keep them once the season starts.
cwel87 - March 1, 2009
JI - March 1, 2009
YEA!
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Now it's Woodward!!
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
Fr some reason
I keep thinking Chris Magruder when they talk about Chris Woodward.
msb - March 1, 2009
A common mistake
Jeff Sullivan - March 1, 2009
Mariners up 8-3
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
A Cedeno/Woodward middle infield sounds good to me
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
Does Woodward bring that much to the table defensively?
hcoguy - March 1, 2009
I'd like to see Cedeno the starter
but I’m not sure if I would give Woodward the job over Jose Lopez just yet
200tang - March 1, 2009
3 games = 34 runs
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
We sure are scoring a lot lately
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
We lost a lot in ST 2001
JI - March 1, 2009
We're always good in Spring Training :(
Corco - March 1, 2009
Probably because our starters aren't in the game for very long
Graham MacAree - March 1, 2009
I'm considering not following the regular season
And only following Spring Training for the rest of my life
Corco - March 1, 2009
We've gotta bring home that cactus league championship!
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Exactly!
Corco - March 1, 2009
I remember us being horrible in ST 2007.
redwolf75 - March 1, 2009
That's the one year I went, and we lost every single game I went to, and Richie didn't have his first hit till about three days after I left.
Moral of the story? Fuck if I know.
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Goddammit I LOVE SPRING TRAINING WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A REGULAR SEASON
Corco - March 1, 2009
And people said we would have a sub-par offense....
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
REEGIE!
Corco - March 1, 2009
10-3?!?
Holy crap – I’m not used to this…
section331 - March 1, 2009
Isn't Daigle married to Jennie Finch?
msb - March 1, 2009
yes
thenatural - March 1, 2009
yep.
Kinslerhomer - March 1, 2009
Larry Larue:
“An inning that makes lawn bowling look fast. Vincente Padilla apparently thinks he’s paid by the hour. The Texas Rangers right-hander took a little more than 30 seconds between pitches in the first inning and the Seattle Mariners emerged with a 4-0 lead.
Padilla walked two, tried various pickoff moves, delayed and hesitated and seemed to doze on the mound. The Mariners scored on a bases-loaded walk, an RBI single, a passed ball and a ground out. That ‘rally’ took up 26 minutes.”
msb - March 1, 2009
Larry Larue is in favor of Vincente Padilla
cwel87 - March 1, 2009
So am I!
section331 - March 1, 2009
Padilla time
(courtesy of oc @ Lone Star Ball)
ThundaPC - March 1, 2009
Three thumbs up!
section331 - March 1, 2009
He should have a talk with Wakamatsu about proper tempo
Jeff Sullivan - March 1, 2009
RBI single for Omar.
Kinslerhomer - March 1, 2009
wrong thread.
Kinslerhomer - March 1, 2009
10-4!
Rangers closing the gap!
200tang - March 1, 2009
If Duran hits a double, does everyone say
Duran, Duran?
ralphie81 - March 1, 2009
With wit like that you might have a future for yourself working the score board at a major league park.
mark sobba - March 1, 2009
I'll take it.
Especially if I can work my way up to putting together the promotional/crowd-energizing videos.
ralphie81 - March 1, 2009
Agreed. Making those videos would be a cool job.
mark sobba - March 1, 2009
Triple Crabbe!
section331 - March 1, 2009
13-4
C-Nage - March 1, 2009
Sean White is a bad, bad man...
section331 - March 1, 2009
Wakamatsu
apparently really, really loves bunting. The first spring training game he commended the team on how well they bunted, and in that article Jeff linked in the post, Wakamatsu said he thought the turning point was a Halman bunt. I wonder if there are ANY managers out there (and excuse me if there is an article or 1000 that talk about this) that realize bunting is, almost always, stupid.
Zwakamatsu - March 1, 2009
---
Aaron Campeau - March 1, 2009
It appears there are two
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Smaller fail
BrettJMiller - March 1, 2009
Love it.
I’ve heard Weaver’s name come up in different contexts and wasn’t quite sure his significance, but a quick google search of him and Acta gave me a couple of good articles. I struggled mighty in my acceptance that bunting pretty much sucks as much as anything else in my conversion.
Zwakamatsu - March 1, 2009
Hmmm
delete button anyone?
