I love the guy – grew up listening to him and think of him like a Grandfather figure (never met him – just through the radio).
But he’s having some trouble this year (to put it diplomatically). Not sure if it’s his eyesight or what. I’m hopeful that calling a game at Spring Training is simply more difficult and once he gets back into the majestic American League ballparks he’ll be fine. I hope. Regardless, I love hearing his voice and hope they let him stay on the air as long as he wants.
As much as people would probably rejoice about it, it would mean another blue-chip M’s prospect crashed and burned.
I remember watching him in AAA thinking that our IF defense would be set for 10 years.
He’s got a bit of experience there (in AAA anyway) and doesn’t need quite the range. Of course he’d need better reaction and quickness in general. But his inaccurate arm might play a little better there. Who knows…
I wonder if he gives a good god damn at this point.
Tuesday night there was a slow roller up the middle that he didn’t even come close on and Lopez almost gloved it on the SS side of the bag. He just does not appear to try anymore.
Didn’t he have discipline issues with his manager in Cuba?
I just noticed it says Felix has 21 strikes and 8 balls. So assuming that was accurate (which I don’t think it is) he’s thrown 8 balls to two hitters and 0 balls to everyone else.
I can't tell whether you're being serious or alluding to those Godawful commercials.
But it does actually annoy me when “natural” is bandied about in such a way; I make food that is both “natural” and a complete and total nutritive disaster all the time.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t the end result of the process for creating “natural flavors” chemically almost exactly the same as “artificial flavors”?
An artificial flavor has another (oftentimes similar) chemical structure. That’s it. That’s the only meaningful difference. As far as chemicals are concerned, origin means nothing.
Yeah, artificial and natural sweeteners have a lot way to go (stevia's gross)
but as far as the end result is concerned, a chemical is a chemical, and the only thing that matters is whether or not it’s toxic. And a lot of chemicals in nature will try to kill you.
One of my coworkers told me about an awesome article
that explained the difference (legally) between “natural” and “artificial” when it comes to flavors and scents. I wish he’d given me the link because it sounded really awesome.
The regular season started one year ago today
Robert - March 26, 2009
:(
Sad panda.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Happy Felix day!
marc w - March 26, 2009
David Price sent to AAA
Is this big news at all?
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Tui as well.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
Hey apparently looked pretty iffy in ST and they want to keep his innings down.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Ah I see
well those seem like smart things to me.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
I would imagine servie time might be an issue as well.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Isn't he a two pitch pitcher right now?
He is great out of the pen as is maybe but needs more work to start.
Sec 108 - March 26, 2009
I think he's FB/slider/change
but I think his change needs some work.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Makes sense.
I just remember the fb and slider in the playoffs.
Sec 108 - March 26, 2009
Cough, cough...
Yeah, they “wanted to keep his innings down” and “manage his innings” so, yeah…
PositivePaul - March 26, 2009
Pretty close to our regular season lineup today.
What does everyone think?
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
Similar to the line up I've been using in MLB the Show
with a few flip flops, Griffey/Beltre, Kenji/Sweeney and Yuni/Guti. Oh and I generally use Clement. It seems to be fairly effective.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Actually now that I think of it
I guess I do bat Beltre 4th.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
nobody cares about your digital fantasy team
pdb - March 26, 2009
This will be the last I mention it!
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Needs more Neihaus
JI - March 26, 2009
Not sure I want Neihaus in the lineup.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
Technically I can't see any of the lineup.
JI - March 26, 2009
That's okay
NEITHER CAN HE!!!!
PositivePaul - March 26, 2009
HEY OHHHHHH
Itd be less funny if it wasn’t so true
seattlesundevil - March 26, 2009
Yeah it's rough to hear him sometimes
I love the guy – grew up listening to him and think of him like a Grandfather figure (never met him – just through the radio).
But he’s having some trouble this year (to put it diplomatically). Not sure if it’s his eyesight or what. I’m hopeful that calling a game at Spring Training is simply more difficult and once he gets back into the majestic American League ballparks he’ll be fine. I hope. Regardless, I love hearing his voice and hope they let him stay on the air as long as he wants.
gustafm - March 26, 2009
We'll see how long Betancourt stays in it.
Otherwise, it’s OK. Not sure about Gutierrez in 9th, but don’t care too much either way.
Yes, somewhat disappointing that they can’t get to Sir Ponson, but the line-up’s all right.
marc w - March 26, 2009
It's interesting with Gut's speed in the nine slot.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
I'd greatly prefer Yuni hitting 9th.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
rec'd for proper baseball strategy
JI - March 26, 2009
I love it that Ichiro is not only a traditionally preferred leadoff hitter
but also optimal in that slot from an analytical point of view.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Weird Stats for Ichiro Today
2 hits in 3 ABs, but because of a double play and a caught stealing, he’s made 3 outs in three trips.
gustafm - March 26, 2009
Yuni completely flaming out as a Mariner would be depressing.
JI - March 26, 2009
Yes.
As much as people would probably rejoice about it, it would mean another blue-chip M’s prospect crashed and burned.
I remember watching him in AAA thinking that our IF defense would be set for 10 years.
marc w - March 26, 2009
I remember watching him in MLB and thinking the same thing >:(
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
That worked for a while, yes.
marc w - March 26, 2009
I still wonder if he'd be OK at 2B.
He’s got a bit of experience there (in AAA anyway) and doesn’t need quite the range. Of course he’d need better reaction and quickness in general. But his inaccurate arm might play a little better there. Who knows…
PositivePaul - March 26, 2009
I wonder if he gives a good god damn at this point.
Tuesday night there was a slow roller up the middle that he didn’t even come close on and Lopez almost gloved it on the SS side of the bag. He just does not appear to try anymore.
Didn’t he have discipline issues with his manager in Cuba?
Sec 108 - March 26, 2009
Felix seems to be spotty today
5 hits 2 walks.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
And then he gets 3 swinging strikes on Jacobs.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Jacobs is incapable of walking FWIW
JI - March 26, 2009
I see
I just noticed it says Felix has 21 strikes and 8 balls. So assuming that was accurate (which I don’t think it is) he’s thrown 8 balls to two hitters and 0 balls to everyone else.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
ST Gameday only counts balls that led to a walk
so you’ll only get multiples of four.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Or hit by pitch
Malcontent1 - March 26, 2009
And whatever was thrown during runner advancement during an at bat
Malcontent1 - March 26, 2009
Listen to this guy instead of me since I haven't used ST Gameday
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Well I figured it was off.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
A mini review of Pepsi "natural"
It is better than normal pepsi but not as good as mexi coke. Possibly better than regular coke.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Does it still taste like Pepsi?
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I'd buy Pepsi that tasted like Coke.
JI - March 26, 2009
Just buy Coke, then?
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
HFCS
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Not that JI is likely to give a rip.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I don't know what that means, but it was all in fun anyway.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
High fructose corn syrup.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Ah, I thought it was some sort of "be nice" thing.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
But it's natural, just like sugar
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
I can't tell whether you're being serious or alluding to those Godawful commercials.
But it does actually annoy me when “natural” is bandied about in such a way; I make food that is both “natural” and a complete and total nutritive disaster all the time.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I'm never serious and "natural" is among the most abused words in the English language
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Indeed it is.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t the end result of the process for creating “natural flavors” chemically almost exactly the same as “artificial flavors”?
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
A natural flavor has a certain chemical structure
An artificial flavor has another (oftentimes similar) chemical structure. That’s it. That’s the only meaningful difference. As far as chemicals are concerned, origin means nothing.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Sucrose:
Sucralose:
Synthetic evil!
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
I don't eat artificial sugar because it tastes like ass.
I’m also really into agave nectar as a sweetener but I think that’s mainly because I like the idea of putting cactus ooze in my tea.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Yeah, artificial and natural sweeteners have a lot way to go (stevia's gross)
but as far as the end result is concerned, a chemical is a chemical, and the only thing that matters is whether or not it’s toxic. And a lot of chemicals in nature will try to kill you.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Stevia is terrible.
But yes, that’s the other thing. Hemlock is natural but I don’t really want to ingest it.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
You know what's in agave nectar?
Fructose and glucose.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
You're preaching to the choir.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
It's basically HFCS
gross
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Are they similar enough that your body processes them the same way?
Because if so, dammit.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
HFCS is 55% fructose and 45% glucose
agave is 56-92% fructose and ~the rest glucose.
You’re not doing yourself any favors.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Well that's an onion in the ointment.
Back to raw sugar.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Everything in moderation.
You’re fine. You can’t possibly drink that much tea.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
You'd be amazed.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Sugars are good for you
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Raw sugar is cheaper anyway.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Sorry to harsh your buzz
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Eh, I'm used to my buzzes being harshed.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Just as long as you don't tell me that smoking might not be a great idea.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
There's no fructose in cigarettes
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Also great for your Q-Zone.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
This
and just stay away from processed foods as much as possible.
Matthew - March 26, 2009
This is not an issue.
Aaron Campeau - March 27, 2009
One of my coworkers told me about an awesome article
that explained the difference (legally) between “natural” and “artificial” when it comes to flavors and scents. I wish he’d given me the link because it sounded really awesome.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
This cracks me up!
Thanks for all the help, …really.
;-)
kabrink - March 26, 2009
As is organic
JI - March 26, 2009
Indeed, for pretty much the same reasons
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Depends on the certification.
Organic can mean something that’s really important to me but it can also mean absolutely nothing. Generally it means nothing.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Right
I would rather have something that is said to be organic than something that is said to be natural, but both words are horribly abused and misused.
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
Sustainable and green are getting there too.
These words lose meaning for me when everyone starts using them as a label for how they operate.
Sec 108 - March 26, 2009
God yes.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Fuckin hippies
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
NOBODY LIKES A GODDAMN HIPPIE
pdb - March 26, 2009
My girlfriend hates
when I tell her all food is organic.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
So does my ex-bss
JI - March 26, 2009
You have a problem with Roy Hobbs?
Wilder. - March 26, 2009
I like it when they call cheese "Real" cheese.
Where “Real” is the name of the company that makes the not-so-real cheese..
d0nkey - March 26, 2009
Not if you buy Mexi or Kosher coke!
Although I haven’t lived in a nice enough neighborhood to find Kosher coke.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
I just realized that they probably have this somewhere in Roosevelt and I am going to go to Roosevelt very soon.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
As would I.
I hate Pepsi.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Diet Pepsi > Diet Coke
Coke >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pepsi
PositivePaul - March 26, 2009
Yup
JI - March 26, 2009
I'd rather drink unflavored soda water.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I'll stick with just water
pdb - March 26, 2009
I adore soda water.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I'm just not a fan of fizz generally unless it's in a beer
pdb - March 26, 2009
I love fizz.
kevin_ess - March 26, 2009
If I could afford todrink mineral water and soda water instead of tap water I would.
And also if that wasn’t obscenely wasteful.
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
I can agree with this.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Not at all
which is probably why I liked it.
It does have a slight nutty flavor which is weird for a soda.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
Oh Felix...
I blame Sojo.
Wilder. - March 26, 2009
Ruined his confidence..
Wouldn’t you want to quit something if your manager said that Carlos Silva was better than you?
seattlesundevil - March 26, 2009
Russ Branyan!
I love that big ox…
gustafm - March 26, 2009
Another good inning from Aardsma
2Ks and 1GO.
bluemax - March 26, 2009
He has had only one rough outing
And he claimed he was working on a new pitch or something. Regardless, Aardsma has been FAR AND AWAY the best reliver in ST.
gustafm - March 26, 2009
Randy Messenger!
Slurvey - March 26, 2009
Fuck you.
Slurvey - March 26, 2009
It kind of worries me that they keep saying nobody has distinguished themselves yet
Even though Aardsma keeps looking good
Malcontent1 - March 26, 2009
Give this man the job!
Jeff Sullivan - March 26, 2009
I still think Lowe closes
But Aardsma is breathing down his neck (not literally – that would cause uncomfortable moments in the clubhouse)
gustafm - March 26, 2009
I let Aardsma sister breath down my neck anyday.
Slurvey - March 26, 2009
Bleh
Aaron Campeau - March 26, 2009
Two options:
1) Try harder to be funny
2) Try less hard.
You’re in some sort of horrible limbo.
Graham MacAree - March 26, 2009
Alright
Option B it is.
Slurvey - March 26, 2009
I dunno...
Lowe has quite the reputation with sharing the clubhouse hot tub with teammates…
PositivePaul - March 26, 2009
Goddamit Lowe I still believe in you but dammit...
Slurvey - March 26, 2009
