Triunfel Update, RRS to the DL

He's out for the year. Some ligaments in his ankle were damaged along with the fibula, and he's just had surgery to fix them.

This sucks.

(H/t Librocrat)

Update: Ryan Rowland-Smith is heading to the DL with tricep tendinitis. I guess we'll get to see our starting pitcher depth sooner than we expected (this also sucks). On the plus side for some of you, Matt Tuiasosopo gets to remain with the club for a little while longer. Felix day is now tomorrow rather than still Friday against Detroit, and Chris Jakubauskas makes his starting debut against the Angels in RRS's place.

Matthew's note: The DL stint can be made retroactive to the 10th, so if RRS just needs the minimum 15 days (and tricep tendinities doesn't sound too serious), he's only going to miss two starts, the 16th and 22nd.

By “some” I assume you mean “Robert”, yes?

Ugh. News about Triunfel sucks.

Didn’t see the RRS thing coming. Not the best of days today.

At least we still are getting Ichiro back today.
RRS certainly came out of nowhere.
I figured Triunfel had to have soft tissue damage.

There’s almost no way to break your fibula without it.

What shitty news
I suggest a 4man rotation.

Then half of our starts would be pure unadulterated awesomeness.

I won’t mention the other half.

Jakubauskas to the rotation?
The RR-S thing I saw coming actually and was in fact waiting on it.
Update from Baker
The team is going with Chris Jakubauskas as tomorrow night’s starter. Let’s not forget, Felix Hernandez has a bad ankle and this was a last-minute decision without much time for Hernandez to prepare to go tomorrow. He’ll continue to go on Friday as planned. Matt Tuiasosopo is still here, but could get shipped to Class AAA soon to get another reliever up with the team.

Friday is still Felix day.

That was a bang-bang update.

I load Baker’s blog without the update and not 30-seconds later you post this. I refresh Baker’s blog and sure enough the update it there.

Also I guess Triunfel can play winter ball.

Maybe the Arizona Fall League or something, so he wouldn’t have to go an entire twelve months without swinging a bat in a competitive game.

Yeah, I think he's almost a lock for the AFL

(again).

Not a big fan of Tui's potential

but shouldn’t he be like, playing baseball somewhere?

I like him

But we need a pitcher more than Tui. No way he stays around long.

One would think he'd be better off getting some playing time in AAA or somewhere.
Yeah that's what I was getting at
It's very hard to imagine Jakubauskas going 5 innings

allowing 3 runs or less. I’ll be astonished if that occurs.

I'll have faith until he proves me wrong.
We should try to get Swisher and his shiny ERA.
Gimme Brooks Kieschnick.
Ron Mahay for LOOGY and 5th OFer
Is Brooks still playing?
No.
Then he'd come cheap!!!!!!
Time for good news.
RF Ichiro
LF Endy Chavez
DH Ken Griffey Jr.
3B Adrian Beltre
1B Russell Branyan
2B Jose Lopez
C Kenji Johjima
SS Yuniesky Betancourt
CF Franklin Gutierrez

Supreme Ultimate Defense Take 1.

I'm almost tempted to stay up for the 3:10 am start time

for that awesome defence.

I'd swap Yuni for Endy at this point for more blance but otherwise it's not bad...

Although I wouldn’t mind Lopez @ 2 either.

Kenji batting ahead of Yuni

doesn’t make any sense to me. Kenji’s looked pretty awful at the plate, and I feel like every one of his hits these days is a seeing eye grounder on the left side. I know he was extremely unlucky last year, but I’m going to assume that Kenji’s pretty much done until I see some pop back in that bat.

Yea Kenji gets too much respect. When he plays he should be batting dead last
To be fair...

Fangraphs shows Kenji with a 0% LD% over 23 PAs.

Some other players with 0%LD thus far:
Milton Bradley
Prince Fielder
Nate McLouth

My favorite part of Cedeno in LF? I like to imagine Yuni can feel him breathing down his neck.
I <3 that lineup except for Endy Chavez hitting second

Chavez is the world’s perfect 9-hole hitter, especially while he’s hot

I don't get why Endy would be batting 2nd instead of Lopez

But whatever.

This is neither here nor there, but

I just noticed our regular lineup has only one U.S.-born position player. Interesting.

Two

Griffey and Russ.

Oops, wasn't counting DH as a position player.

But still.

Branyan and Griffey?
Branyan and Griffey?
Black people are from Africa, silly!
We do have the whitest bullpen ever assembled though
Are really trying to imply that race is factor in it's success this year?
Yeah, you surely have nothing to worry about.

Hypothetically speaking, who gets your car when you die?

My amazing GF that I will meet on the Amazing Race.
Miguel Batista is the whitest of them all
Whoa
Could Jakubaukus be a better matchup against the Angels?

Since most of their big bats are right-handed, Jakubaukus might match up better against the Angels and while I love RRS, I cant imagine that Jaku is much worse overall.
