And I wonder if it was positioning more than range.
He squared up in front of a ball I thought he’d have to dive for. Maybe he’s playing a little more up the middle than I’m used to? I don’t know. Whatever. It’s nice.
When Ichiro struggles, I often wonder silently to myself if age is catching up to him or if he needs to change his approach because pitchers have him figured out
And then he goes and has several 3 for 4 games and I realize how stupid I am for thinking that.
For any other team I wouldn't care, but that is fantastic.
It’s also very nice to talk to my A’s fan co-worker, who thought I was insane when I told her that the AL West was wide open and the Angels aren’t really all that good. SSS, of course, but it’s reassuring to know that I wasn’t crazy.

Suggests to me that Wak is, in some part, still managing like the team isn’t contending, testing out his pen in various situations to see who will step up.
Makes me think about when he brought in Aardsma to face that lefty in game 3
Any time a casual fan thinks of the Mariners, they are always reminded of those glory days. Griffey, Buhner, Edgar, Randy Johnson, Dan Wilson, etc. They sometimes even say that they would go to a game if they got all those players again. It had me wondering, I know that they were good, but it seems fans grow more of an affection to the players than the team as a whole (Griffey, Wilson are good examples). Is this a result of the team actually playing good, or did the Mariners just have really good PR/Marketing back then?
Those guys made a core that spanned a couple era's of team turnover. Griffey got there first, and was just about the only bright spot most times.
Buhner had personality and bombs. Edgar was just great, and Dave Niehaus loved him (and all those guys, you can hear it in his voice when somebody is special).
Aardsma throwing to Johnson is like that scene in "Meet the Feebles" where the knife thrower with the heroin withdrawal shakes is throwing them at the retarded hedgehog
But he always seemed to throw god awful passes in the last few minutes of a game where we were behind. I suppose that happens often given the situation, but those really stand out for me.
"Just days after baseball resumed following the 9/11 attacks, the Mariners clinched the AL West in the most fitting and reverent way imaginable. With ‘Proud to be an American’ playing over the speakers, tens of thousands watched, sang, cried and honored their country along with the players on the field. This continues to be one of my most impressive and touching memories. "
This is what you get when you follow Carlos Silva up with Miguel Batista

edddgar - April 25, 2009

JLC - April 25, 2009
Button your jersey douche
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
The pathetic thing is that if Aardsma records the out here
he still gets a save for the shitty performance.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
To be fair
Saves are useless.
Fin - April 25, 2009
That's kind of the point I was trying to make.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
He can have it, because we got it.
Sinking Away - April 25, 2009

Aaron Campeau - April 25, 2009

Aaron Campeau - April 25, 2009
MARINERS! YES!!! 11-6? REALLY?
royalcurve - April 25, 2009

Fin - April 25, 2009

I THOUGHT MAYBE 12-6 BUT I WAS TOO SCARED TO HOPE
IT IS A HAPPY MISTAKE
royalcurve - April 25, 2009
12-6

JLC - April 25, 2009

BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
IF AARDSMA PROMISES TO NEVER DO THAT AGAIN
I WILL SACRIFICE A VIRGIN
JLC - April 25, 2009
Suicide is illegal
digdugboy - April 25, 2009
Thanks for making it interesting. But really you guys didn't have to. Next just hold the 5 run lead, boring is fun too.
mark sobba - April 25, 2009
OH MY GOD!!!!! WIN!!!
AND AARON CURRY!
MFAN - April 25, 2009
And our QB of the future next year!
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
YES YES YES!! BRADFORD!
MFAN - April 25, 2009
Bahahaha poor Robert.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
What's Robert got against Bradford?
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
I think it's just his Hasselbeck love.
Any other quarterback would elicit a similar response.
Teej - April 25, 2009
Well we all love Matt.
MFAN - April 25, 2009
We do?
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
I think so. I don't know too many people that aren't Hasselbeck fans.
MFAN - April 25, 2009
My dad, but he's a moron.
Robert shouldn’t worry anyway, if we draft a QB next year he’ll sit on the bench behind Hass for at least one year.
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
When I was growing up, my dad despised every Hawks QB, including the rare good ones.
I thought Dave Krieg was one of the worst quarterbacks in history because of my dad.
Teej - April 25, 2009
Hasselbeck is a bum.
Any QB can perform like he did with the OF line we had..
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
How do you explain 2007?
BrianL - April 25, 2009
Nate Burleson?
I guess I just never jumped on the Hasselbeck bandwagon.
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
Nate Burleson isn't special.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
Nate Burleson is terrible.
redwolf75 - April 25, 2009
Nate Burleson fucking sucks
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
Also he's probably the best QB Seattle's ever had statistically.
Not to mention, he’s not one who is going to make a lot of bad decisions. When he’s healthy, he’s a top 10 QB in the league
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
I will take back the bum comment.
But I still don’t like him.
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
Acceptable
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
I don't follow football like I do baseball.
But he always seemed to throw god awful passes in the last few minutes of a game where we were behind. I suppose that happens often given the situation, but those really stand out for me.
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
Yeah, but he was also tied or 2nd to only Peyton Manning in game winning/tying drives while behind in the 4th quarter
At least he was in 2007. They put some statistic on screen for the come from behind win against the Bengals.
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
Funny how the brain only wants to see the bad and not the good eh?
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
It's true.
I think part of it is how his blunders are usually done in memorable fashion. Like “We want the ball, and we’re gonna score!”
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
Especially for us Seattle sports fans, it's easy to take the good times for granted.
Teej - April 25, 2009
Dad?
Teej - April 25, 2009
He seemed like an ok guy.
JI - April 26, 2009
Robert's going to hurl himself off a building the moment the team selects a QB.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
Well that's stupid
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
And Max Unger and a first round pick for next year!
BrianL - April 25, 2009
YES! Fucking great day for both teams!
MFAN - April 25, 2009
ME WANT SWEEP
JLC - April 25, 2009
I bet Branyon like NASCAR.
Kermit. - April 25, 2009
Game was way too interesting at the end.
But hurrah for bullpen regression not costing us the game.
ThundaPC - April 25, 2009
Hang on....
Well, that was proof it mattered that we kept scoring…
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Any words on Curry. Does he become a pro-bowl player?
russak - April 25, 2009
At least Silva isn't winless
He’s still a bust, but not a winless bust…
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Those pesky rangers just won't lose.
Other than that, the division is looking good.
Fin - April 25, 2009
The Halos will recover at some point
But since Adenhart’s tragedy, they’ve completely collapsed…
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
But at what point?
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
I don't know
Their pitching sucks, its looking suspiciously like, dare I say it, 2001….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
They weren't all that good before Adenheart's death and even if they start playing to their talent level they've got a ton of ground to cover.
Aaron Campeau - April 25, 2009
And unless the As young kids turn out great
It’s looking good at the Safe….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Come on Ms, HOW SWEEP IT IS TOMORROW PLEASE!
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Carlos Silva gets the win!
What a stud!
digdugboy - April 25, 2009
I know, he soooo deserved it.
I wonder if Felix got 9 runs every game how many wins he would have at the end of the season.
mark sobba - April 25, 2009
In 2001 through 18 games what was the M’s record?
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
Oh I found my answer. Baseball-almanac says.
Through 18 they were 14-4 in 2001.
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
And we didn't lose 3 in a row
Until like the second to last series of the year….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
That's pretty amazing.
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
It was an amazing year
And then, we ran into the… Yankees…..
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Yuck..
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
Although this I'll never forget from 2001
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Pictures should be smaller
Graham MacAree - April 26, 2009
Couple crazy games today
This one AND the Boston-NYY 27 run marathon…
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Who won?
russak - April 25, 2009
Boston 16-11
They trailed 6-0….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
We have a prety easy part of the schedule coming up
Three games in Chicago next week then back home for Oakland….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Drayer "It gets a little interesting in the 9th".
Shannon, it was a heart killer.
Sinking Away - April 25, 2009
Is everybody alive?
M'sin.. - April 25, 2009
I had to revert to the Putz In, TV Off survival mode.
msb - April 25, 2009
Ms tied with Boston for 2nd best record in the AL
Toronto .5 better at 13-6…
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
khmer luge - April 25, 2009
Nice
Better than Mariano Rivera did last night, giving up a game-tying 2-run jack to Boston with 2 out in the ninth….
skywaker9 - April 25, 2009
Perfect
IceStormV1 - April 25, 2009
Morrow out with stiffness in his shoulder?
BrianL - April 25, 2009
What?
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
Sigh.
royalcurve - April 25, 2009
Where did you get this?
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
Post-game with Waka.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
Thanks
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
FSN.
He supposedly had it this morning after not throwing, supposedly is not serious but is scary
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
Thanks.
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
This Silva interview is what what what?
Was any of that english?
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
Bahahaha Vern Fonk is making fun of ShamWow guy.
BrianL - April 25, 2009
ShamWOW!
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x98/vrykyl250/SHAMWOW.jpg
MFAN - April 25, 2009
I am always sold by the commercials, but I have never bought one.
Has anyone tried it?
d0nkey - April 25, 2009
It works as advertised, but there is the question of durability.
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
It seems to intense for me. I don't think I could handle a shamWow.
MFAN - April 25, 2009
Jesus god damn tits Albert Pujols has seven motherfucking home runs.
BrettJMiller - April 25, 2009
And 25 RBI'S!!!!!
MFAN - April 25, 2009
So does Torii Hunter.
Three of them against us.
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
Fortunately for us, we won all three games in which he homered.
Susheel Ramasahayam - April 25, 2009
I was pissed he got hurt in 2006 and that season ended up being disappointing.
