Towards the end of the game today, WGN flashed the results of a poll asking viewers whether or not Ken Griffey Jr. should be a first-ballot inductee into the Hall of Fame. 96% of them voted yes.
I was watching the highlights from the Cubs – DBacks game yesterday… When Zambrano homered, of course, the crowd in Arizona was going crazy. I hate cubs fans.
But I think the idea is that no one should really give a shit if the comments are dumb. It’s a lot easier when it’s not a team blog where regulars have devisive opinions that can (somehow) take over every post even when the opinion in question is completely off topic. Some times the best thing to do is just ignore trolls, as they typically thrive on getting responses.
but if you provide their owners with the means to clean it up (poop bags), 90% of the dog shit gets removed by the people who’s dogs create it. If you don’t, most of those owners let their dogs shit and don’t do anything to clean it up.
Some times the moral high ground doesn’t work. Sure, it’s the responsibility of the dog owners to clean up the crap. But if you really care about your park and you can’t exclude the dog owners, one of the best solutions is to admit that the moral high ground doesn’t solve the problem while poop bags do.
Blogs are not quite like private places and not quite like public places. Because we can’t easily exclude the problem users, the best solution is often to find a way to mitigate them. Sometimes that means we provide the resources (poop bags) even though the responsibility is really on others to clean up their own shit.
Anyway, I’m kinda off topic on the point of how to manage blogs, and of course, each blog owner gets to decide how he wants to do it.
Last thing I say (probably) before I go silent for another six months....
When WGN showed this poll (Vote A for yes, B for no), Hawk and Stone read the choices aloud…and then Stone added, “Or C: if you chose B…are you kidding???”
:)
I tuned in KIRO after the game had ended when Calabro was on-air; he was talking to an (unnamed to me) baseball writer who opined that he thought conventional baseball wisdom was often wrong — for example, they said Branyan couldn’t hit lefties, just like they said Willie Bloomquist couldn’t play every day, and so he never got the chance to …
Who the fuck were that four percent?

The Arizona fans are pretty bad too.

Does anyone actually moderate FG comments?
Seems like they could do with a pruning

philosofool - April 30, 2009
Ignoring trolls would be fine if they didn't then start trolling each other
The best thing to do is stop them posting at all
Graham MacAree - April 30, 2009
Another solution...
is to have a daily or weekly off topic post. Sometimes if you just give them a section of the park, they don’t insist on playing in yours.

Or you could shoot every owner who doesn't clean it up, which is our approach

I'm not sure I get it...
Are the moderators the poop bags? That’s not at all flattering…

Wow, Dave's not kidding.
That 6:11pm post by hark at the bottom of today’s USSM game thread must be read to be believed. The commenter lays out all the reasons why he should see the light, then insists on stabbing out his own two eyes.
Decatur - April 29, 2009
This is why I haven't read USSM comments in probably close to a year.

I love the USSM articles still.

Turned out to be Jim Street.

I bet he gets less support from the writers.
