They didn’t have the extra 20 million dollars it would take to put a roof on.
I’m curious to know why the Metrodome is so terrible that it needs to be replaced…?
I don't necessarily have a problem with talking heads in theory
but in practice they almost always suck. Mentink annoys me far less than Zaloumis because Zaloumis is so obviously there because she has a nice rack or whatever and those sorts of hiring decisions are making us all retarded.
But Angie Mentink was a serious athlete. Like way more of an athlete than any of us. From her bio:
While at the UW from 1991 to 1995, Mentink is the first women’s softball player to be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame. During her Husky career, she topped the Pac-10 conference in hits, runs and stolen bases. Mentink is a former three-time All-American softball player and was. She was also the first softball player to earn All-Pac-10 and All-American honors.
Following a successful collegiate career in softball, Mentink played professionally for the Colorado Silver Bullets baseball team where she made history collecting four hits in a single game.
One of her proudest moments from her young adult life was becoming the first female to play and letter in football at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California.
A-fucking-men.
I plan to run out and buy a bottle of champagne the minute it is determined that Batista is no longer serving whatever horrific purpose keeps him on this team.
I just don’t understand why the NL doesn’t adopt the DH. The game is so far removed from pitchers being a part of the offense. Maybe I am biased toward the DH because I grew up in Seattle.
However, I think the main purpose is to sell more tickets. Interleague games always fill the stadiums because the teams don’t meet every year (with the exception of the rivals!)
and holy shit he’s big. He looks like a football player. What’s the scoop on him? Looks like he is a definition of an undisciplined hitter, but he has a ton of HR’s this year. Can anyone comment on his defense? I see he’s 25…FG doesn’t have anything on him.
There was some talk about it when they installed the new field at Pullman some years ago, if memory serves field turf >>grass>>>>astro turf. Lower incidences of just about every type of leg injury, I think even concussions (it was the football field so it was mentioned). Too bad Jr. and Buhner didn’t have it when they came up.
"Mariners unable to locate lady luck in Las Vegas"
You Pravda guys are so clever.
Jeff Sullivan - April 4, 2009
They did manage to find an entirely different type of lady though
And the team has delayed their flight out to Minnesota to undergo treatment and vaccinations.
Matthew - April 4, 2009
LOL I bet Silva would love to a go at that post game spread!
Robert - April 4, 2009
I'm the world's worst typer
I can’t believe I’m getting banned for a joke I screwed up.
Robert - April 4, 2009
I wonder if it is in Silva's contract under that whole suite clause.
Fin - April 4, 2009
That is a disgusting and hilarious typo
abender20 - April 4, 2009
A female gone missing in these days, in Vegas of all places, is nothing to joke about Jeff.
Robert - April 4, 2009
I hear she lives in Anaheim.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
You mean Los Angeles of Anaheim?
Fin - April 4, 2009
Luck, if you ever were a lady to begin with ....
Luck be a lady tonight.
msb - April 4, 2009
Go fuck yourself, Spring Training
lemonverbena - April 4, 2009
This.
JLProck - April 4, 2009
IS the nightmare over?
Is it really?
section331 - April 4, 2009
FSN feed on MLB.TV today.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
Here we go, here we go, here we go, here we go, together we can wiiiiiiiiiiiin.
Here we go!
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Please no more....
My heart can’t take it…
section331 - April 4, 2009
Okay, I'm ready.
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
I like that Branyan fellow. I plan on being a fan.
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
Huh, almost looks like a real lineup today
appleshampoo - April 4, 2009
Heh...
I said the same thing to my husband when they announced it – “that looks more like the Mariners”….
section331 - April 4, 2009
Needs more Ichiro
And less pitchers in the lineup. Although RRS has been hitting quite well in his 5 or so PAs.
appleshampoo - April 4, 2009
I like watching RRS at the plate.
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
Oh yeah
He has to bat today, doesn’t he? I forgot…
section331 - April 4, 2009
I'm ready for the season to start.
But April looks scary.
ChaseB - April 4, 2009
Yuni?
:)
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
Still sucks.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Right.
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
I hate Yuni.
There. I said it.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
There is room on the bus. Hop on.
Sec 108 - April 4, 2009
And I hate you
Robert - April 4, 2009
No you don't silly.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I do now.
Robert - April 4, 2009
I don't believe you.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Neither do I.
royalcurve - April 4, 2009
Get on the midnight train to anywhere cause you better start believing
Robert - April 4, 2009
We've been through so much worse.
We can work through this.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Midnight train to Georgia
is the best midnight train to catch.
johnbai - April 4, 2009
Yuni!
Yuni?
tootthekazoo - April 4, 2009
1st-to-3rd!
We’re coming for you, Scioscia!
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Again!
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Beltre being Beltre
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
He has to have the thickest bat in baseball.
It’s like he swinging a huge club.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Looked like it on that at bat
ChaseB - April 4, 2009
So I just got MLB.tv Premium
And I’ve got dual monitors set up so I can sit on my couch and watch the game on TV.
The problem is that fullscreen mode automatically closes when I do other work on my primary monitor.
Does anybody know a workaround/hack to prevent this?
Corco - April 4, 2009
I think it's a known issue.
Not sure if they’re addressing it, though.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
I just spent $30 on cables to connect my computer to the TV so they better fix it
Corco - April 4, 2009
I'm fairly certain there isn't a way to get around that.
BrianL - April 4, 2009
Virtual Desktop seems to be my only option
Corco - April 4, 2009
Man I hope the weather on Opening Day will be like today.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Since Minnesota is inside it shouldn't matter
Corco - April 4, 2009
I can't believe they're building an outdoor park.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Right?
Is that not the worst idea? :/
section331 - April 4, 2009
It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, quite frankly
Corco - April 4, 2009
If they ever make the World Series it won't end until the following June.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
It will be exceedingly hard to steal second in snowshoes
abender20 - April 4, 2009
Bossman could do it.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
<3
R.J. Anderson - April 4, 2009
Opening Day: 2010
Fin - April 4, 2009
The pinnacle of the Hargrove era.
waldo rojas - April 4, 2009
I think the pinnacle was how awesome the M's were doing the day before he quit.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Maybe they plan on adding a roof later on.
But seriously, it doesn’t seem to make much sense. I think the summers there are supposed to be nice though.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Gardenhire said
They didn’t have the extra 20 million dollars it would take to put a roof on.
I’m curious to know why the Metrodome is so terrible that it needs to be replaced…?
section331 - April 4, 2009
The Metrodome sucks but if they didn't have the extra $20 million they should have waited until they did.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Isn't their owner like a multi billionaire or something?
Why would $20 million be a problem?
Fin - April 4, 2009
Pohlad is a huge tightass
Corco - April 4, 2009
He's also dead.
Maybe his kid (or whoever) is less so.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Well that shows how much I care about the Twins
Corco - April 4, 2009
Somehow I totally missed that.
Teej - April 4, 2009
Agreed
Meanwhile, they should just paint the ceiling blue…
section331 - April 4, 2009
They're going to be playing a dozen makeup doubleheaders every season.
BrianL - April 4, 2009
At least doubleheaders are awesome
Corco - April 4, 2009
And they will probably be in the summer when the weather is good there.
Fin - April 4, 2009
I mean our Opening Day.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Great. Batista.
Rub some salt in my paper cut, why don’t you?
section331 - April 4, 2009
JOEJESSICA!
Corco - April 4, 2009
That was a pretty bunt.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Nicole whateverhernameis
has been hired for her “credentials”
marinerdan - April 4, 2009
She's also hot
Corco - April 4, 2009
Woosh.
Fin - April 4, 2009
No I got it
But felt that that point needed driving home
Corco - April 4, 2009
That's what I want out of journalists alright.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I wouldn't call her a journalist.
Would you call her more of a personality, or something like that?
Fin - April 4, 2009
I wouldn't either and I guess that's the problem.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
But then again
Is Angie Mentink a journalist? If not, what is her purpose? I am guessing she is the Ibanez of the FSN Northwest clubhouse.
Fin - April 4, 2009
I don't necessarily have a problem with talking heads in theory
but in practice they almost always suck. Mentink annoys me far less than Zaloumis because Zaloumis is so obviously there because she has a nice rack or whatever and those sorts of hiring decisions are making us all retarded.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Agreed- it's like Idiocracy is real
Corco - April 4, 2009
I'm becoming increasingly convinced that it is.
At some point people will look back and grunt in a manner that suggests “hey, Mike Judge nailed it.”
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I mean, she is nice to look at.
If it were something like radio or writing for the Seattle Times with actual content, it would be a different story.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Right but most people get the vast majority of heir information from TV
and credentials are a secondary concern for TV jobs. That annoys me.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
And also she's not my type so I can't look past it.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Is her content that bad though?
Fin - April 4, 2009
She's there to smile and be orange.
She never says anything of substance.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Don't know about the others
But Angie Mentink was a serious athlete. Like way more of an athlete than any of us. From her bio:
While at the UW from 1991 to 1995, Mentink is the first women’s softball player to be inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame. One of her proudest moments from her young adult life was becoming the first female to play and letter in football at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California.
johnbai - April 4, 2009
Emmitt Smith was an athlete too.
Doesn’t make you qualified to be on TV.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I'm just saying she's there as a true sports fan
not because she’s a journalism major that needed a job and has a plastic rack.
johnbai - April 4, 2009
Sure.
And like I said, Mentink doesn’t really bother me.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Her ovaries are certainly for real.
Matthew - April 4, 2009
I could make a sex toy joke about the name of that baseball team
But I’m going to take the high road here
OlSalty - April 4, 2009
The Colorado Silver Bullets?
I’m totally missing the joke. Help a brother out!
johnbai - April 4, 2009
There's a vibrator called the Silver Bullet.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I hear she still plays with the Silver Bullets HEYOO!!
OlSalty - April 4, 2009
Ugh
OlSalty - April 4, 2009
That was lamer than the waka towlie photoshop
Robert - April 4, 2009
So she's less of an athlete than Brayden
Graham MacAree - April 4, 2009
She's not more of an athlete than I am. That's not possible.
Anything she can do, i can do better. I can do anything better than her.
JLProck - April 4, 2009
I thought she was hired for her Zaloumis
msb - April 4, 2009
You guy's need to get out more
ChaseB - April 4, 2009
Right, get out of mom's basement and get a date.
Not Loving Batista - April 4, 2009
May this be Miguel Batista's final appearance as a Mariner
Corco - April 4, 2009
I was just thinking the same thing.
We can only hope
ChaseB - April 4, 2009
Can I get an amen!?
abender20 - April 4, 2009
You can get an
A-fucking-men.
I plan to run out and buy a bottle of champagne the minute it is determined that Batista is no longer serving whatever horrific purpose keeps him on this team.
section331 - April 4, 2009
word
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
He needs to suck more first.
Fin - April 4, 2009
UWyo reference woo
Corco - April 4, 2009
The M's should not be allowed to lose a game featuring both a Yuniblast and a Johjimer.
abender20 - April 4, 2009
Those sound like
Pokemon.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Ok
That made pop shoot out my nose.
section331 - April 4, 2009
I know it's ST
but Joh is raking. I love it.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
I am sure he will resume sucking on April 6th.
Fin - April 4, 2009
Shut up!
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Three more years!
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
No, Blowers, I would not like to see a weekend of National League style baseball in Seattle.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
I'll never understand why they use AL rules in AL parks and vice versa for interleague.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Because that's what the current rules of Major League Baseball dictate retard.
Robert - April 4, 2009
Well I guess that makes sense.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Didn't you know the home team makes the rules?
I just don’t understand why the NL doesn’t adopt the DH. The game is so far removed from pitchers being a part of the offense. Maybe I am biased toward the DH because I grew up in Seattle.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
I used to feel the same way but I've been convinced that it's worth keeping the way it is.
I’m glad that my team is an AL team though.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
But with that said if the point of interleague play is to expose fans to a different style of baseball
shouldn’t they play by the other league’s rules to actually do so?
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
I think so
otherwise it’s just seeing a new team that you don’t care about, and creating unfair unbalanced scheduling without any real benefit.
marinerdan - April 4, 2009
Which is an excellent point.
However, I think the main purpose is to sell more tickets. Interleague games always fill the stadiums because the teams don’t meet every year (with the exception of the rivals!)
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
I hope I never ever ever hear whoever the guy broadcasting along Niehaus right now again.
He annoys me. Horribly.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
After Physioc and Hudler I don't even notice.
shinallsrevenge - April 4, 2009
I get the Rockies broadcast living here in Utah.
I can confirm George Frazier is annoying.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
He sounds
like a know it all. And his voice is a weird mix of Tim Kirkjian and some annoying asshole.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Like Jerry Remy of the Boston Red Sox and Michael Kay of the New York Yankees.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Yeah
I feel sorry for the Rockie fans that have to listen to this all year.
ChaseB - April 4, 2009
I'm definitely getting
all 5 of the bobbleheads this year. I’m upset there’s not a Beltre one though.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Maybe that is a sign that they are planning on trading him halfway through
Fin - April 4, 2009
Wilson seems like a guy who could go to Japan and hit 50 HR
shinallsrevenge - April 4, 2009
I have not seen Mike Wilson yet
and holy shit he’s big. He looks like a football player. What’s the scoop on him? Looks like he is a definition of an undisciplined hitter, but he has a ton of HR’s this year. Can anyone comment on his defense? I see he’s 25…FG doesn’t have anything on him.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
*had not seen
Interesting comment otherwise.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Why would Field Gulls have anything on Michael Wilson?
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
FanGraphs.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Yeah, I was just messing because he mentioned Wilson looks like a football player.
Wilder. - April 4, 2009
Oh yeah duh!
No wonder I can’t find any articles on any Mariners players on a Seahawks blog. I feel so stupid for even looking there!
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
He had a scholorship to play football at Oklahoma
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Dexter Fowler
is my new favorite player. We share a surname, and Dexter is an awesome name for a black guy.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
uh
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
Tell me what I said isn't true.
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
my stars
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
We did once have a thread about white players with ethnic names
Tell me Kahlil Greene looks like you imagined he would given the name.
johnbai - April 4, 2009
Almost done.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
Done
Zwakamatsu - April 4, 2009
Whohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
Real baseball in ~52 hours!
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
They need to hurry up and announce who made the roster because I'm bored as hell.
Aaron Campeau - April 4, 2009
In comes Tuiasosopo
Roster has been set.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
Bitch Ballin
Tui!
Robert - April 4, 2009
He's going to get sent down on the 15th, you know.
BrianL - April 4, 2009
Tui?
Who the fuck is playing in the outfield for the next eight games? Do we really need another infielder right now?
BrianL - April 4, 2009
Wlad/Griffey are probably splitting time
I would’ve much rather seen Clement instead of Tui on the roster if we’re adding redundant people.
OlSalty - April 4, 2009
When is he even going to play?
This strikes me as retarded.
Matthew - April 4, 2009
Doesn't Chris Burke make a lot more sense than Tui?
BrianL - April 4, 2009
He would have had to be added to the 40-man
but yes, I would think so.
Matthew - April 4, 2009
They could have added Burke to the 40 man instead of Kelley or Jakubauskas.
God I hate the 12 man pitching staff.
BrianL - April 4, 2009
Morrow to Close.
Larry Stone has more. Plus, Ken Griffey in right, Endy Chavez in leadoff.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
Starting Ken Griffey in right despite the astroturf in the Metrodome?
It’s going to be hilarious to see him wind up on the DL before the home opener.
BrianL - April 4, 2009
How is the fieldturf on knees and joints?
msb - April 4, 2009
They have field turf, not astro turf now?
There was some talk about it when they installed the new field at Pullman some years ago, if memory serves field turf >>grass>>>>astro turf. Lower incidences of just about every type of leg injury, I think even concussions (it was the football field so it was mentioned). Too bad Jr. and Buhner didn’t have it when they came up.
Kermit. - April 4, 2009
Wait, what the hell?
Ronny Cedeno can play the outfield if needed?
BrianL - April 4, 2009
Tui on the roster as a reward, huh?
Eh, that’s different. And basically means he’s going back down when Ichiro comes back.
ThundaPC - April 4, 2009
I'm still waiting for another roster move
I’m a tad uncomfortable going north with that team
Corco - April 4, 2009
What are the best blogs and websites to follow SSFC and MLS?
I’m completely in the dark. Any suggestions?
Decatur - April 4, 2009
Nick S has a really good one
