It is good to be king!
Sec 108 - April 6, 2009
What's the verdict on Felix and the fastball?
Too much? Too little? Just right? I looked through the Gamecast log, but what did people who saw the game with their own eyes think?
Decatur - April 6, 2009
He had some trouble locating it for a while
But he seemed to settle down later in the game.
OlSalty - April 6, 2009
I'll wait for the inevitable analysis from M/G/D/J/D/R etc.
But his velocity seemed to be down but the movement was there. He benefited from a wide strike zone against lefties I felt. He located the FB well in the outside ‘corner’ against them, down in the zone. Nice sink to his pitches overall.
EnglishMariner - April 6, 2009
Okay
M
G
D = Dave

appleshampoo - April 6, 2009

EnglishMariner - April 6, 2009

JeffS?

Ankle tweaking... a good thing???
I dunno… call me crazy, but before he tweaked his ankle, seemed like he was doing the regular “establish the f-ball” routine and just trying to blow it by hitters w/o really localizing it well. From the ‘tweaking’ on, seemed liked when he threw the f’ ball, it was with less ‘umph’ and locating in better. Also seemed to mix in a lot of offspeed pitches…. especially against lefty’s. I was really happy about the latter results…. here’s to more of the same… long live the King!!!!
tien - April 6, 2009
Beltre agrees with you.
ralphie81 - April 6, 2009
From where I was sitting
Felix still threw too many fastballs… even in 0-2 counts and pressure situations… but the Twins’ offense kind of sucks and Felix is awesome, so he got away with it. When he missed with fastballs, it was rarely down the middle. He missed the glove pretty often with the off-speed stuff too, grooving some sliders, or hitting the low-inside corner instead of the low-outside corner… but no one made him pay.
Also Batista was warming up in the 8th, and then yielded to Morrow when it looked like Felix would finish the 8th and we would see a save opportunity. When the M’s tacked on 2 insurance runs, it was Batista time again. And he looked pretty sharp in the 9th. So… praise Felix all you want… but the same lineup looked feeble against Batista too.
johnbai - April 6, 2009
Twisted ankle
I <3 Felix.
cwel87 - April 6, 2009
"Felix is ours and you can't have him."
EnglishMariner - April 6, 2009
Yeah.
Not Loving Batista - April 6, 2009
Great job!!
Tony S - April 6, 2009
I missed these charts.
Welcome back, baseball.
BrianL - April 6, 2009
Ahhh, real baseball.
Great way to start the year.
dbroncos31 - April 6, 2009
So awesomeness
The first block of summer I will be home this year is May 15th-24th.
M’s home schedule during that time:
3 games vs BOS
4 games vs LAA
3 games vs SF
Fett42 - April 6, 2009
Lincecum homecoming?
Fin - April 6, 2009
I'm hoping to catch RJ's 300th win
Fett42 - April 6, 2009
Wow, nice.
That’s the best homestand of the year, definitely. I’m setting my sights on Baltimore, Cleveland, and Tampa Bay
Decatur - April 6, 2009
Not sure when i'm going to see a game at Safeco
but I will be in Oakland on Saturday for Felix Day, Season 5 Episode 2. I hope its as good as the premier.
SFMariner - April 6, 2009
I will be there both Sat and Sun.
I really don’t like the Coliseum
InSpokane - April 6, 2009
Eh, its not so bad.
You can usually move up to good seats without much hassle, and at least you’re not surrounded by Angels fans. Going into a stadium with that much exposed concrete does kind of create a weird retro flashback.
SFMariner - April 6, 2009
Man King Felix owned.
Makes me feel proud to where his name and number on my back.
Fin - April 6, 2009
Watching this game was almost as awesome as actually being at the Nova-Pitt game.
.Taylor - April 6, 2009
The King of Kings.
krb - April 6, 2009
Fucking sweet
Beltre’s D was good too.
I can’t believe the game was scored with no errors. I guess that turf really sucks.
appleshampoo - April 6, 2009
Field turf
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrodome#The_field
I thought it was still AstroTurf, to be honest, but I was wrong. Just in case anyone else wasn’t sure.
Field turf is awesome, BTW. I played some football on it it HS and have played tons of Ultimate on it up here in Seattle. Plays like grass and doesn’t get messy in the rain.
appleshampoo - April 6, 2009
FEEEEEEEELLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!
GRIFFFFFEEEEYYYYY!!!!!
GUUUUTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
BrettJMiller - April 6, 2009
I know it's the 1st game of the season
But screw Betancourt because he’s never gonna change.
JLC - April 6, 2009
He's got to go, but who needs him?
Not Loving Batista - April 6, 2009
The Bench.
And Tacoma.
EnglishMariner - April 6, 2009
Cuba? Can we deport him back to the island?
johnbai - April 6, 2009
I thought you were big on human rights?
Decatur - April 6, 2009
Haven't you read World War Z?
Frosty Raptor - April 6, 2009
I LOVE Cuba
I wish I could be deported to Cuba. I’m trying to do Yuni a favor!
johnbai - April 6, 2009
Made me think of this...
Cuban Refugee Betancourt Prefers Castro to M’s Manager John McLaren
Decatur - April 6, 2009
He could've walked on four pitches the AB he GIDP on
I…I have no words…
Decatur - April 6, 2009
Yea he stood out as terrible. Even if he gets ahead in the count, he has no concept of waiting for a good
pitch to hit. When Joh singled, you would think the next batter would be thinking about moving the runner over or making the pitcher work a little. But of course he takes a wild hack at a pitch about a foot outside. Then the standard DP comes a few pitches later
Rudy4three - April 6, 2009
All hail Franklin Gutierrez, heir apparent to the throne of Cameron!
Respect the sovereignty of center field!
Frosty Raptor - April 6, 2009
I heart Franklin.
Terminator_X - April 7, 2009
If he develops a little more consistent power (he's capable), that's exactly what we're looking at
Wooooo!
cwel87 - April 7, 2009
Great start.
I can’t believe Saunders is still doing his thing for the Halos. Damn.
Still, this is going to be an entertaining race all season long.
marc w - April 6, 2009
It is, isn't it?
See you at the finish line. :-)
Zu Long - April 6, 2009
We'll see you on Tuesday.
Fin - April 6, 2009
I like how the "It's good to be the King" shirt model is sweaty
abender20 - April 6, 2009
Run Scoring
Oakland = 0
LAnaheim = 3
Seattle = 6
Texas = 9
ThundaPC - April 6, 2009
Oh that's fun.
BBTN just introduced “Impact homerun of the night.” Gutierrez’s homerun had the highest impact on win expectancy at 20.7% (as charted above).

It’s good to have you back, suckfest chart!
section331 - April 6, 2009
Its odd to see Batista worth wins.
Mariner Melee - April 6, 2009
Did the Twins, Nats, and Rangers (or in thi case old) get new uniforms, or what was that about?
Mariner Melee - April 6, 2009
The Twins apparently did a throwback to their 1982 season (the first season of the Metrodome).
I don’t know what is up with the Nats, but the Rangers had awful uniforms.
Wilder. - April 6, 2009
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the red either
Mariner Melee - April 6, 2009
Numbers/names font is worse
Mariner John - April 6, 2009
I thought it was the same as the normal Texas uniforms
Mariner Melee - April 6, 2009
They have some sort of odd serif or something in the middle of them
Mariner John - April 6, 2009
Particularly for Saltalamacchia
ralphie81 - April 6, 2009
I think the Uniwatch guys referred to these as 'warts' ....
msb - April 7, 2009
They also look like oddly shaped breasts
especially on the one. I hate bad design, especially when you make a hundreds of thousands of people look at it 162 times year.
Decatur - April 7, 2009
They've done Red before
it’s not that bad.
bluemax - April 7, 2009
You seen these sights, Melee?
If not, you’d probably love them.

No
Very cool thank you.

I am digging the Marlins unis that were designed.

I guess Texas is bringing back the Red uniforms for 2009
