No, I do not think this means Jeff Clement is getting called up to Seattle to replace Rob Johnson. I think it is more likely that it means that Jeff Clement is no longer a catcher.
…there have been some terrifying painful losses in the past 12 months. Does it make me a bad person that I was happy when Ovrebo had to be guarded out of England in the middle of the night?
Morrow asked to be turned into a closer. We can’t help that he happens to suck at the job right now. Clement isn’t getting the chance to succeed as a catcher, and he wants to be a catcher.
Clement's knees will dictate his future as a catcher.
I’m guessing this has as much to do with it as anything. Clement works his butt off to improve his catching skills, and he really doesn’t want to be anything BUT a catcher. His body’s just not holding up its end of the bargain. He could hold his own out there, if his body would let him. I’m guessing it won’t.
I still say that Rob Johnson’s reputation as a “good defensive catcher” comes because a) he’s a likeable guy and b) he’s a crappy hitter. I’ve never liked watching him behind the dish…
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Looks like I’m skipping band practice next Thursday…
PositivePaul - May 14, 2009
1st base?
The last thing we need is another LH 1B.
JLProck - May 14, 2009
SS. Why not?
andrewgolfsalot - May 14, 2009
This must be a prelude to a trade.
Everybody’s fungible at this point.
A.J. Coltrane - May 14, 2009
Knees, is my guess...
He’ll play DH a lot, I presume.
PositivePaul - May 14, 2009
Goodbye Jeffie
I enjoyed you, and I’ll miss hoping you’d make it through.
Graham MacAree - May 14, 2009
He's going to Boston, and is going to thrive.
You watch. It’ll happen.
JLProck - May 14, 2009
He's up because as Divish mentioned...
Clement’s knee is barking again…
PositivePaul - May 14, 2009
And I can't even root for Rob Johnson to suffer a career ending injury anymore
Life’s a bitch sometimes
Graham MacAree - May 14, 2009
FA Cup?
For the Blues? I don’t even want to call it a silver lining. It’s like a rusty iron lining…
GhettoBear04 - May 14, 2009
The FA Cup is always amazing
’97 was the best year ever to be a Chelsea fan
Graham MacAree - May 14, 2009
I wasn't a soccer fan back then...

GhettoBear04 - May 14, 2009
Bye, Jeff.
.Taylor - May 14, 2009
We have three guys fighting for first base in Tacoma.
And you want one more?
Something else is up.
JY - May 14, 2009
Well they can't exactly keep Clement at catcher if his knees won't hold up.
BrianL - May 14, 2009
Clement has not gotten any better
At anything! His hitting, I think, is actually getting worse! And he has bad knees. Can you say first round flop boys and girls!
Rich Langford - May 14, 2009
Well you appear to be an idiot
Graham MacAree - May 14, 2009
How can you tell!
Was it all the exclamation points!
pdb - May 14, 2009
As if the sig didn't give it away
abender20 - May 14, 2009
I'm gonna laugh if Moore does worse in AAA than Clement does and plays defense like Rob Johnson after all he's a "good defensive catcher".
Clement should get one more chance at the ML level but he probably won’t… In a Mariners uniform.
So we’re turn Clement from a “Catcher” with offensive potential into a average DH.
And Morrow into a “closer”.
Slurvey - May 14, 2009
Difference being
Morrow asked to be turned into a closer. We can’t help that he happens to suck at the job right now. Clement isn’t getting the chance to succeed as a catcher, and he wants to be a catcher.

If Clement's body can't withstand the rigors of catching then there's nothing anybody can do
Jeff Sullivan - May 14, 2009
Points taken.
I’m just upset how our draft picks have turned out but that doesn’t really matter since a lot flame out anyway.
Slurvey - May 14, 2009
Moore gets the start tonight in New Orleans
Box score here.
marc w - May 14, 2009
One for two with a walk so far.
thewyrm - May 14, 2009
E-2!
marc w - May 15, 2009
This is the part where we trade Clement and he goes on to be an allstar catcher.
OlSalty - May 14, 2009
I don't think anybody will pick him up as anything but a DH/1B.
