On April 10, Aardsma recorded the first save of his career, pitching 2 innings of relief against the Oakland Athletics. This save also marked the first MLB win for Chris Jakubauskas.
He had been standing at the top of the stairs all night watching the game from up there. Every time I went past him he was talking smack about Boston.
After Ichiro’s first home run we were leaving to go have a smoke and he got up in my face saying I was a loser for dropping the home run. I grabbed his hat off his head after he got a little too close for me and I threw it on the ground.
I walked away and told my usher to make sure he was gone when I got back and he was.
I mean, for a while there was a lovable loser quality about the Sawx. The whole Yankees vs Red Sox rivalry added a bit of mystique to things too. Then when they started winning WS titles a whole new group of people jumped on.
Like Chris Rock said about OJ “I wouldn’t have done it. But I understand.”
who is friends with white dudes, one of whom, in spite of tremendous douchebaggery, has managed to outjump his black friend (who has pretty good hops) and catch a homerun ball.
The best part of that was the Sox fan who’s just off the screen to the right who wants to give the guy a high five for some reason. You see the guy who caught the ball pause, then high five someone else (closer to him). Great safeco moment right there.
I was just thinking that Daniel Bard isn’t much, but is somehow a better 2006 draft pick than Morrow, but then Lowe came in and outpitched him, but throwing just as hard. I needed that almost as much as I needed that 2nd Ichiro funk blast.
Best, $50 spent. EVER.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!
I may be going tomorrow. My hopes are not high, but then I didn’t think I’d find myself cheering for Sean freaking White tonight, either. Holy shit!
WE BEAT LESTER LESTER FUCKING BLEW IT
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Frak, yeah.
rtang - May 15, 2009
I just realized David Aardsma shut down the team that trade him.
ThundaPC - May 15, 2009
Well he didn't allow a run to them anyway
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
Compared to recent closer-related outings though...
nickmo - May 15, 2009
Okay, good point.
ThundaPC - May 15, 2009
If he had that exact outing at Fenway, it's an L.
Way to know your surroundings, Mr. Aardsma!
marc w - May 15, 2009
He realized it.
He said he was over-amped
msb - May 15, 2009
Maybe Aardsma should close when Jaku pitches:
Wilder. - May 15, 2009
Holy fuck, we won?
I turned it off in the 5th to watch a movie. WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Teej - May 15, 2009
awwwww
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
A buddy of mine caught this one. The first one went right over my head.
It was a night of Ichiro glory in Right Field.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
I was going to ask if that first one got to you
Looked awful close on tv but the camera guy moved too fast for me to get a clean look with the DVR
tootthekazoo - May 16, 2009
The guy behind me had it hit him in the mitt and he dropped it.
That play was what started the “fight” and eventual removal of a Sox fan from our section.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
What was this "fight"?
redwolf75 - May 16, 2009
I caught the whole thing on video!
It’s awesome!
Kermit. - May 16, 2009
Well played.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
Excellent.
msb - May 16, 2009
Yeah, someone in my area said "Did you know your boy in the green hat got in a fight?!"
Fill me in, I want to know what happened.
BrettJMiller - May 16, 2009
It wasn't really a fight.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
What a flaming douchenozzle.
Aaron Campeau - May 16, 2009
That word was used a lot last night.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
Generally my response to the threat of physical confrontation is to run away limp-wristedly and skrieking
but I have the feeling that were I ever to get into a fight again it would be with a Red Sox fan.
Aaron Campeau - May 16, 2009
I suddenly had a vision of the fight at the end of Blazing saddles ...
msb - May 16, 2009
By rapidly changing the pitch of your scream you can distort their depth perception.
Robert - May 16, 2009
You do realize...
Your grabbing his hat was you assaulting him first…
A jackass with the smelliest breath can get up in our face, or a little too close, all he wants, but as long as he doesn’t touch you…
Just sayin’… dickhole or not, you might be in the wrong here.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 16, 2009
I'd have your bail money Sec if any dickbag were to see events this way
Matthew - May 16, 2009
Appreciated, but Typical is incorrect.
This is because from a legal definition perspective assault is to threaten, battery is to physically touch without consent.
Therefore what the guy did was in fact assault, and touching someone’s hat is not battery.
Sec 108 - May 17, 2009
There's the legal definition of wrong and the actual definition of wrong.
Aaron Campeau - May 16, 2009
Being technically correct is the highest form of correctness
Poochie - May 17, 2009
Maybe next you could circle the Red Sox fans in the picture that have ever actually been to Boston?
faceplant_04 - May 15, 2009
Yeah, I mean how the fuck do you become a fan of a team from a city you've never lived in?
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
It's fuckin pathetic
Poochie - May 15, 2009
I guess I kinda understand it.
Willie Mays Haze - May 15, 2009
I was actually just talking shit about Jeff and JI.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
The vast majority of Mariner fans do not live in Seattle
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Legend has it I've been there!
Poochie - May 15, 2009
City is implied to mean region in this case.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Still probably true
Poochie - May 15, 2009
The vast majority of Mariner fans live outside of the great northwest?
wizzle wozzle?
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Or more accurately have never lived in the great northwest
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
I thought you meant outlying suburbs
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Basically I mean places where you can watch the Mariners on regular cable.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Well then that includes Oregon Idaho and Alaska
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Yes
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Those places are nowhere near Seattle
Poochie - May 15, 2009
They are in the region
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Seattle is the closest major league city to these states.
In general.
Mariner John - May 15, 2009
Although Southern Oregon may be closer to San Francisco.
Not positive though. But Giants games can be found on the airwaves at times.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
This is why I said in general.
Mariner John - May 15, 2009
I gotcha.
Just saying.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
Klamath Falls is ever so slightly closer to San Fran than to Seattle

Your jab went over my head like a Dennis Miller analogy on MNF.
Willie Mays Haze - May 15, 2009
Minor league affiliations?
I’m only an M’s fan because of the Vermont Mariners and a depressing lack of modern Expos
Tube - May 15, 2009
I just hate Redsox Nation.
I just can’t stand that people become members of Redsox nation, just because the Sox are usually good and it’s easy to be a bandwagon fan.
faceplant_04 - May 15, 2009
OH MAN I KNOW.
Teej - May 15, 2009
Hold on a second.
I was a Mariner fan long before I had ever lived in Seattle. I’m also a Saints/Hornets fan and I have never lived in New Orleans.
thewyrm - May 16, 2009
Way late.
thewyrm - May 16, 2009
95% of Man Utd Fans, Red Sox fans and Yankee fans fall under this.

I don't think I've ever met an Arsenal fan who's lived in Arsenal
Dewey N - May 16, 2009
Seems like a dangerous place to live.
Robert - May 16, 2009
David Koresh wasn't a fan?
OlSalty - May 16, 2009
Good luck finding your hockey team funnyface
Kirsten Schlewitz - May 17, 2009
I thought I made it clear that I was Jeff baiting.
Aaron Campeau - May 17, 2009
Didn't see much of the game but godfuckendammit why can't lowe always pitch like that
Also, I am terrified of the idea of Aardsma as closer.
Bearskin Rugburn - May 15, 2009
Count the things that are weird
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
A Griffey jersey that is moving quicker than usual.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
A black dude in Seattle
who is friends with white dudes, one of whom, in spite of tremendous douchebaggery, has managed to outjump his black friend (who has pretty good hops) and catch a homerun ball.
Bearskin Rugburn - May 15, 2009
Like black dudes in Seattle have any other choice.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
And a Cubs shirt!
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
and the Griffey guy is running away too
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Maybe he's embarrassed
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
Griffey is like our third best hitter against right handed pitching
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Maybe he's embarrassed that our tiny Asian has more home runs than his idol
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
That is cause for concern
especially since Griffey was scratched again in favor of the batshit crazy Larry the Cable Guy enthusiast
Poochie - May 15, 2009
Right! the cubs shirt!
Who is completely gay for the black fellow and has grunge era jeans on. Plus the annoying korean kid from harold and kumar in the background.
Bearskin Rugburn - May 15, 2009
That might not be the same asian kid...
They all look the same, so who knows.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
And the chick behind the cubs shirt is so proud of her gay son!
Bearskin Rugburn - May 15, 2009
The dude who caught that ball has been a season ticket holder for 14 years and he is not a douche.
Sec 108 - May 16, 2009
A Cubs fan watching baseball?
Teej - May 15, 2009
From what I hear Cubs fans are the greatest fans in baseball.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
From what I hear they like dicks in their butts
Poochie - May 15, 2009
I heard that as well.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
Well these two things aren't mutually exclusive.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
They aren't?
My fanhood has been validated!!!!
Willie Mays Haze - May 15, 2009
I read that as vandalized.

Teej - May 15, 2009
From what I hear White Sox fans are worse than Hitler
Poochie - May 15, 2009
I always smile when I hear a line like this.
nickmo - May 15, 2009
NO!
The best part of that was the Sox fan who’s just off the screen to the right who wants to give the guy a high five for some reason. You see the guy who caught the ball pause, then high five someone else (closer to him). Great safeco moment right there.
marc w - May 15, 2009

msb - May 15, 2009

Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
Why don't these players take their gif potential into consideration before doing things
Jeff Sullivan - May 15, 2009
A real pro would shop it in.
Poochie - May 15, 2009
I think you should write an open letter to Ichiro and Kenji.
This is much more important than any lousy open letter to Felix about his pitch selection.
Willie Mays Haze - May 15, 2009
It's like a 30s screwball comedy.
Aaron Campeau - May 15, 2009
Yes!
Poochie - May 15, 2009
That's the fastest I've ever seen Kenji.
ThundaPC - May 15, 2009
Red Sox 'nation:' You have been Jakubaustracized

Ichiro kicked ass.
Wlad wasn’t bad at all.
Nice.

nickmo - May 15, 2009
