Why can't the 35,000 Mariners fans make more noise than the 10,000 Red Sox fans.
I don’t know if this was mentioned in the game threads, but it really bothers me. Is it because our team has sucked for a bunch of years now or is it just the Seattle fan?
I got tickets in section 120 or 130 something last year way after the Mariners were out of it. The game was against the Marlins, so mostly all of the people there were rooting for the Mariners. So the guy I went with was pretty vocal. He kept yelling and screaming, “Let’s go Mariners”, etc. People were looking at him, telling him to “shut up” and “fuck off” and gave him the finger. I mean, it was slightly embarrassing to sit next to this guy, but I didn’t understand why people didn’t show more energy for their team.
I get the low-key attitude when there isn’t a lot going on, but you have to stand up during big moments. If there’s a runner on second with two outs, your team is down by one run and your best hitter is at the plate, you should be on your feet and cheering.
The guy I was with, I am not friends with him anymore, kept on yacking away at every at bat, even I was getting annoyed. Still, strangers should be telling someone to fuck off because they are showing excitement.
walking around the waterfront area and through Pioneer square, it was a Red Sox infestation. At the game, it was about 3:2 in favor of the Mariners where I was sitting in the LF bleachers, but down below me by the foul pole, there was almost solid red and white, and they would not shut up. Whenever the Sox would score, I would just think to myself, amidst all the noise, “so much for home field advantage”.
It appears that you just made one of you rare mistakes with that statement. The NFL has monitored the situation at Qwest Field on multiple occasions and found nothing to be out of order. The league has not been hesitant in the past to drop the hammer on teams in the past, with the Redskins being fined 20,000 dollars back during the 2000 season. Please check your facts again before making such incendiary statements on this subject.
So what you're saying that the league is biased in favour of the Seahawks?
This jives with what I’ve heard about the refs trying to throw Superbowl XL in Seattle’s favour but the Steelers being just too good to take the title from.
It’s amazing that they won with both the referees and a large media corporation against them. With that in mind the Seahawks can’t have been more than a minor speedbump
Yeah, well Dirty Water doesn't like you either.

Tonight I drink Franklin's dirty bath water
Rudy4three - May 17, 2009
Dirty Water is a fucking awesome song with an amazing keyboard hook and at least 25% of my hatred for the Red Sox is based on them ruining it for me.
Aaron Campeau - May 17, 2009
For me it's 60% ruining Neil Diamond
Jeff Sullivan - May 17, 2009
They ruined Sweet Caroline but the rest of his catalog is still good.
The Standells weren’t exactly prodigious.
Aaron Campeau - May 17, 2009
The Mark and Brian sweet Caroline will bring you back
Poochie - May 18, 2009
Unless youre talking about the K-os song of the same name, because he's awesome.
Link.

Has got to be one of the most underrated artists out there, this is exactly what I thought of too

Seattle fans as a whole are low-key.
JLProck - May 17, 2009
This is true.

I've been told to sit down before.

To be fair.
The guy I was with, I am not friends with him anymore, kept on yacking away at every at bat, even I was getting annoyed. Still, strangers should be telling someone to fuck off because they are showing excitement.
Fin - May 17, 2009
There is a time to cheer relentlessly, and a time to just sit and enjoy the game.
JLProck - May 17, 2009
I don't know
But it blows. Fucking Sox fans, most probably have never even been to Boston.
coolconman - May 17, 2009
And airports don't count.
Fin - May 17, 2009
So if you've never been to a city you can't be a fan of it's teams?
I’m glad I finally was able to visit Seattle last year so my fandom can now be validated..
CstSnow - May 17, 2009
if (team != Boston Red Sox)
{ times needed to visit to team’s city to prove true fandom= 0;
}
Fin - May 17, 2009
Not this again.
Matthew - May 17, 2009
The fact that they haven't been to Boston is irrelevant.
JLProck - May 17, 2009
Every single Red Sox fan is a bandwagoner and I am a better fan than every single one of them
Jeff Sullivan - May 17, 2009
Agreed
coolconman - May 17, 2009
Because it's gotta be more like a 50-50 split
I was sat in Elliott Bay Book Company watching the jerseys/hats go by before the game, and they were about 8:1 in favour of Boston
Graham MacAree - May 17, 2009
I noticed this too

Apparently Wak is not happy with the imbalance.
msb - May 17, 2009
I should hope not.
royalcurve - May 17, 2009
That was the estimate at work today for me too. Quite literally.
And the Mariners jersey was a replica Griffey. God damn it.
Mariner John - May 17, 2009
The Kingdome used be nuts. The Seahawks place is like the loudest stadium around.
Key Arena or whatever that place used to be called was very loud.
I think it may have something to do with the total mediocrity of the franchise right now. I thought in 2001 the place was always loud
Rudy4three - May 17, 2009
I wonder how much the openness of Safeco vs. the closedness of the Kingdome affected noise levels.
Maybe we need something like a noise+ statistic.
Decatur - May 17, 2009
At least Safeco doesn't pump in noise like Qwest does
Graham MacAree - May 17, 2009
Let's agree to disagree!
Robert - May 17, 2009
I fucking hate it when I end up with a seat next to the speaker
I shouldn’t have to rape my vocal chords to have a conversation to the person next to me.
Poochie - May 18, 2009
GOD SHUT UP
Robert - May 18, 2009
I just rather the noise came from the crowd
Then having to talk over a bunch of commercials played at maximum volume between innings
Poochie - May 18, 2009
It also seems unfair given that one of the crucial parts of football is being able to hear your teammates so as to be properly coordinated with them
Why is Seattle allowed to use this unfair advantage?
Graham MacAree - May 18, 2009
Hi Graham

Graham MacAree - May 19, 2009
Please allow me to retort!
Robert - May 19, 2009
ESPN is also biased against Pittsburg
It’s amazing that they won with both the referees and a large media corporation against them. With that in mind the Seahawks can’t have been more than a minor speedbump
Graham MacAree - May 19, 2009
True that
