So we can't beat a rusty John Lackey nor Mike Palmer
Stay tuned for 9 innings of Ervin Santana shutout ball.
ThundaPC - May 19, 2009
And Lopez has -53.7%?
You don’t even pitch, asshole.
ThundaPC - May 19, 2009
So... maths time...
Mariners at 18-22, 6 games back. Rangers at 23-15.
If the Rangers play .500 ball the rest of the way, they end up 85-77. The Mariners would have to play .549 baseball (67-55) to tie. We’re sitting at a comfortable .450 pace.
Anybody else feel like it’s 4th down on the 50 yard line yet?
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
The Rangers were projected to be about a .450 team at season's start.
Not totally sure whether that would still stand, but that’s worth mentioning.
Matthew - May 19, 2009
It is.
It might explain why the Angels inevitably win the AL West again. Part of all this is the Mariners playing better than they are. A .550 clip the rest of the way doesn’t seem likely right now.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
If the Mariners play .550 ball the rest of the way I think they will be charged with assault.
Sec 108 - May 20, 2009
To be fair, Palmer didn't exactly shut us down.
Mariner John - May 19, 2009
Felix lost to Matt Palmer
Jeff Sullivan - May 19, 2009
Losses are team stats.
vis a vis, Jose Lopez.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
I'm just embarrassed more than anything else
Jeff Sullivan - May 19, 2009
Yeah. I know.
Everybody hurts.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
Felix sucked in general.
Or at least it looks like he did from a cursory glance at his line.
Mariner John - May 19, 2009
That Halos Heaven exists makes it so much worse.
sammy - May 19, 2009
It looks that the sweep HH predicted is becoming more and more inevitable.
Fin - May 19, 2009
I'm counting on Bedard
Although I’d love a win tomorrow since I’m going to the game
gregrabble - May 19, 2009
Oh good.
Then I can bust out this old picture, in an ironic way…
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
I can't wait till a year from now...
Lopez and Yuni will be gone.
houseofprime - May 19, 2009
I hate to say it but losing Beltre will probably be good too.
We need to free ourselves of these “aggressive” hitters.
houseofprime - May 19, 2009
Man...
It is sad how lost Beltre looks at the plate right now. It’s almost like he knows he isn’t going to make contact, so he’s guessing. It is impressive how he can manage to still play such a solid third base even while he struggles offensively.
Geeves72 - May 19, 2009
It's rarely ever good to lose a player who's averaged 3.5 wins for your team.
Matthew - May 19, 2009
While true I don't really feel like we should pay for his decline
Poochie - May 19, 2009
Then post alternatives.
Whining is easy. Coming up with solutions is hard.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
How am I supposed to know who will be available before the season even ends?
Poochie - May 19, 2009
Figgins, probably.
That would be hilarious.
Eyebrows - May 19, 2009
You're dismayed that we're paying for him to suck.
Come up with alternatives for this season… that is, for the now… or you’re just paying him to suck until free agency.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
What?
Poochie - May 19, 2009
I think TIF thinks that you think we should trade Beltre immediately.
Matthew - May 19, 2009
That seems like a weird thing to infer since we're already paying him and it's far too soon to establish a pattern of decline.
Poochie - May 19, 2009
Weird?
Said in response to Matthew’s factoid about how much value Beltre has been to us.
Things easy to infer from that statement:
Beltre is being paid by us
He’s not the same value as the past
You’re not happy about either one
Logical conclusion: You think he’s done being valuable and it bugs you we’re paying for a declining player.
I don’t really care what you think about Beltre. What I said was that if you have alternatives, I’d love to hear them. I’ll say it again: “whining is easy… coming up with solutions is hard.” The solutions on what to do with Adrian are even more difficult considering the team’s current situation and roster construction.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 20, 2009
We're about to lose Beltre to free agency and that could open up a big hole in production on this team.
Poochie - May 20, 2009
Also, I find it strange that you are singling me out for whining about Beltre
since I’ve never once called for him to be benched or traded.
If I wasn’t clear enough I apologize, since I in no way meant what you think I meant, but I thought it was pretty clear we were talking about him leaving as a free agent.
Poochie - May 20, 2009
First of all,
I disagree completely with your logical conclusion. I found it pretty clear that the context was free agency and even without that, the included clause “while true” is a pretty big indicator that Poochie was agreeing with me that losing Beltre puts the team in a tough spot and therefore, the remainder of his sentence naturally falls under the idea of re-signing him.
Furthermore, rosterbation is frowned upon here and encouraging it is even more frowned upon.
Finally, your attitude in this subthread is far from optimal.
Matthew - May 20, 2009
Abe Vigoda.
CapSea - May 19, 2009
Rubbish.
If you’re going to use that logic, you might as well ditch Ichiro first.
If we are going to lose Beltre it’s going to be to the benefit of the team’s overall long term future health, not to “free” ourselves from an unattractive style of play.
The Typical Idiot Fan - May 19, 2009
Yuni and Jose's style of play is very unattractive.
houseofprime - May 19, 2009
They couldn't catch a train if it was on time
Kermit. - May 20, 2009
I'd like Lopez to try to field a train.
abender20 - May 20, 2009
I'd like Gutierrez to field a train.
Too much? Yes, no, maybe?
Kermit. - May 20, 2009
Never
