In case you were wondering why closer Brandon Morrow wasn't used in the top of the ninth last night -- Morrow certainly was -- the Mariners gave an answer today: Morrow has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with right biceps tendinitis. He's eligible to return May 9 (a week from today). Manager Don Wakamatsu called the move "proactive."
Morrow says he's not feeling any pain, which is reassuring, so I'm guessing this is just something the M's are doing to make absolutely certain that he doesn't carry any lingering issues all season long. I suppose now's the time to be ultra-cautious. Get ready for a whole lot of Aardsma!
Denny Stark (yes) is up in his place.

Denny Stark, wow.
Never thought I’d hear that name again.

I, for one, am going to be rooting very hard for Denny Stark to be awesome
Corco - May 2, 2009
Well this is a bit of a debbie downer
Robert - May 2, 2009
Good thing we didn't call up another position player.
Rollo Tomasi - May 2, 2009
Denny Stark?
Wheres Olson/Baldwin?

I can't believe they brought up Stark either.
He’s been an average at best reliever for Tacoma this year (5.18 tRA, -.8 pRAA, 4.57 tRA*, 4.44 FIP). This must be his one last chance before he gets the heave-ho.
I would’ve liked to see this RHRP Doug Fister (Baseball Cube, Statcorner, Fangraphs) guy get a shot (although I don’t know his scouting reports). He just converted to relief at the end of last year, and while he never had great strikeout numbers as a starter (6.7 K/9), he always had good control (2.5 BB/9 in the minors). And he’s been lights out this year – 1.74 tRA, 0 BB, 8 K in 6.33 innings. He’s earned a shot more than stark has – especially with Vargas in the pen now.

An old Conor Glassey interview with Fister
is here.

Shawn Kelley's closer, right?
It appears that Geoff Baker’s blog has crashed.
Decatur - May 2, 2009
David Aardsma.
BrianL - May 2, 2009
I think that's stupid. Kelley has pitched way better than Aardsma,
According to Statcorner and Fangraphs – and his home run rate will almost certainly fall.
And I’d argue that Kelley has a better track record that Aardsma, even if it’s a minor league track record. Aardsma has never shown even average control at any point in the majors – he’s just not good enough for our highest leverage situations.

This is now not so much the ministry of silly walks
As the ministry of oh holy jesus xenu hold me I’m scared

So if Josh Fields could pretend like this week never happened and mosey his way up to the majors by mid season that would make me happier
Graham MacAree - May 2, 2009
Not a good week for Fields?

Find out tomorrow on the next exciting edition of minor league coverage!
Graham MacAree - May 2, 2009
I can't get over how many times Halman has struck out
He is Richie Sexsonesque
Tony S - May 2, 2009
Way worse than that
Graham MacAree - May 2, 2009
Does he have any upside?
Tony S - May 2, 2009
He just hit his ninth home run of the season.
JY - May 2, 2009
Not to mention
I don’t think he hit a home run for the first two weeks. So that’s like 9 home runs in 10 games or so
Malcontent1 - May 2, 2009
Six in the last ten and counting.
JY - May 2, 2009
We're losing depth in our bullpen, better draft a reliever who is close to the Majors this June.
Matthew - May 2, 2009
Nah, just convert Felix.
The Ancient Mariner - May 2, 2009
More efficient!!
seattlebruin - May 2, 2009
"I Will Break You" - Denny "Drago" Stark
Tony S - May 2, 2009
Really?
How is Denny Stark not a fat latino?
Matthew - May 2, 2009
Denny?
Dennis too menacing-sounding?
