He's happy because he has the cheetos in his mouth.
Fin - May 20, 2009
I think it's corn.
patsfan - May 20, 2009
Or is it Gutz Bits?
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
This looks like the most straightforward WE chart we've had all year
Dewey N - May 20, 2009
Which makes me think:
Couldn’t you use the total distance traveled of the the win expectancy chart as a measure of how back and forth or how smooth a game is?
Dewey N - May 20, 2009
That would be one way to measure it, yes
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
WHY IS NOBODY DOING IT THEN
Dewey N - May 20, 2009
1.934
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
I wonder what the largest total distance in the history of MLB is
Also, highest number for a playoff game. Would that be on fangraphs?
Karma Police - May 20, 2009
Nope
Nobody keeps track of this statistic.
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
In fact this may be the first time it's ever been used in the history of the world
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
My doctor wants someone to track this
So we can correlate it to my blood pressure.
Also, what would the bare minimum possible be? Is 0.5 theoretically possible (score 10+ runs before the first out in the first)?
seattlecougar - May 20, 2009
Correct
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
Average leverage index works just fine for that.
Matthew - May 21, 2009
Okay you got home quickly
Kirk - May 21, 2009
For some reason I don't believe that I really wrote this.
Simply because I use periods. This is weird.
Kirk - May 22, 2009
Can't have too much information
Dewey N - May 21, 2009
Happy Jakubaustrich is awesome
Insta-rec’d.
Crystal for DH - May 20, 2009
Ostrich eggs
Are the largest bird egg in absolute terms; the smallest in comparison to the size of the mother.
Paytheline - May 20, 2009
Griffey is playing well. .900 OPS this month. That is all.
Rudy4three - May 20, 2009
If he goes 0-for-4 tomorrow, that OPS will be .821.
Teej - May 20, 2009
So, trying to figure out WE charts...
would like a 1-0 perfect game only go in one direction and never the other?
Like, no bumps, just a straight line up to the top or bottom right?
craig3410 - May 20, 2009
It would go down every time one of our batters makes an out
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
I like the assumption that we're on the receiving end of the perfect game.
Faux - May 21, 2009
Actually the assumption would be that we're on the winning end of the perfect game
our WE would still slightly dip each time our hitters made an out, so it wouldn’t be a line straight up
seattlebruin - May 21, 2009
Aha, misread that.
Not nearly as funny that way.
Faux - May 21, 2009
First non-head buried Jakubaustrich
Happy Jakubaustrich is awesome
Brian Floyd - May 20, 2009
Pitching duels are cool and all,
but the most exciting part of this game was the runner who made it all the way from the 3rd base seats to the 1st base seats without being caught, and the security guy who totally ate it trying to chase him down in the middle of the field. They finally caught him going up the stairs on the other side of the stadium. That took some finesse. Anyone know what the actual consequences are for that? Spend the night in jail? Big fat fine?
appleshampoo - May 20, 2009
They invite you to the Mariners special night of hell: Cheezburger night.
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
I kum over 2 meet some noo Cheez friends.
44FAN - May 20, 2009
Insta-ban.
JLProck - May 20, 2009
Should we craft a giant banhammer and bring it to the game and see if we get rally fries for it?
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
That whole thing has made me laugh all day long today.
44FAN - May 21, 2009
Did I miss something in the gamethread?
JLProck - May 21, 2009
Must be seen to be believed
Here you go.
ThundaPC - May 21, 2009
Not sure how I missed that!
What the fuck is the world coming to?!?
JLProck - May 21, 2009
I wish they'd show this stuff on TV
Instead they pan away, call the perpetrator an idiot and act as though they’re ruining the game. But when you’re actually at the game that stuff is awesome.
Sklyansky - May 20, 2009
Exactly.
It’s the spice of Mariner life.
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
Is this the first time the M's have stayed on the upward scale and haven't dropped below the 50% mark all year?
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
NOPE. 4/28, 4/25, 4/23 also had a skyrocket chart that didn't go below 50.
I guess I just forgot what that feels like. It also seems weird that the Mariners had a 90 percent chance of winning the game so early on … when they only had a one-run lead. I mean … this IS the Mariner.
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
Buh?
The Mariners didn’t eclipse a WE% of 90% until the ninth inning.
Jeff Sullivan - May 20, 2009
Oops. Did not mean 90.
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
I guess it's just a matter of perception vs. statistics.
The chart never believes the game was doubt. But as a fan … well … I was nervous for quite a while.
Seattle Rodiners - May 20, 2009
No it doesn't
It just means the Angels were never likely to win
Graham MacAree - May 21, 2009
That is an amazing picture.
This was a great game. If we can win tomorrow and salvage the series maybe our season won’t be over afterall.
Zwakamatsu - May 20, 2009
How dare you be optimistic!
We’ll have none of that here, good sir!
JLProck - May 21, 2009
I had a great time at this game.
I sat next to a fellow LL’er (BrettJMiller) and we basked in the glow of Ichiro’s awesomeness and our mutual Torii Hunter hate. Great game.
Smegmalicious - May 21, 2009
Did Brett scream his god damn head off at anybody tonight?
Seattle Rodiners - May 21, 2009
Torii Hunter and Garry Matthews pretty much.
Oh, and the umpire. A lot at the umpire.
Smegmalicious - May 21, 2009
I was hoping that he screamed AHHHH AHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH at an annoying fan.
Seattle Rodiners - May 21, 2009
I think we may have won
Poochie - May 21, 2009
On second glance it looks like the Jakubasutrich is UPCHUCKING HIS CORN.
Seattle Rodiners - May 21, 2009
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Fett
Kirk - May 21, 2009
happiness.
msb - May 21, 2009
This is zen-like, but more awesome.
marc w - May 21, 2009
Looks like the ostrich is stoned.
Wilder. - May 21, 2009
Stupid Llamas!
appleshampoo - May 21, 2009
This is not what I needed to see in the morning.
Kirsten Schlewitz - May 21, 2009
Yeah I hate it when we win too
Poochie - May 21, 2009
Why do you hate Mark Lowe?
He gets no love on the WE chart?
dpdearing - May 21, 2009
I can't believe no one else noticed this.
appleshampoo - May 21, 2009
Whoops a doodle
+9.5% for Batista, +11.9% for Lowe
