We lost because a guy tripped.
Come on.
Mariner Melee - May 26, 2009
Honestly, it looked like he was hurt when he got to 2B.
I’m not making excuses for him, but yes I am. The walk that was given up that came home to score might have been a better culprit.
Sinking Away - May 26, 2009
Well. Assuming that he scored and all other events stayed the same, it would have been a tie game after the top of the 9th
giving Oakland still a better than 50% chance of winning.
Matthew - May 26, 2009
And he was responsible for a rare Seattle Mariners extra-base hit that put us in a position to score those runs in the first place.
But I still want him to vanish.
Teej - May 26, 2009
Sounds fair. Since he has an injury history, is old,
and is only useful when pitching match-ups dictate. Still, he’s not our biggest problem.
Sinking Away - May 26, 2009
We've had some pretty fun games recently
Dewey N - May 26, 2009
Or so I assume from the charts because I do not actually watch the games anymore
Dewey N - May 26, 2009
Fun wouldn't be my first choice of words
Brian Floyd - May 26, 2009
I knew we should've hired Cora
Mariner John - May 26, 2009
I just I
Aaron Campeau - May 26, 2009
The graph says Mark Lowe deserve the blame not Batista.
And who knew when we said Mark Sweeney tripping cost us the game it actually did we would’ve been tied…
Slurvey - May 26, 2009
The graph says they both deserve a lot of blame, Lowe a little more
Jeff Sullivan - May 26, 2009
We woulda lost anyway.
ThundaPC - May 26, 2009
I think Mark Sweeney may have retired.
Wilder. - May 27, 2009
I Hate Miguel Batista!
The first two images that popped into my mind during the seventh inning:

OBF - May 26, 2009
Bill Watterson hates you.
Matthew - May 26, 2009
A lot.
msb - May 26, 2009
I'm right there with Watterson on this one
Do. Not. Mess. with Calvin and Hobbes.
pdb - May 27, 2009
Nobody should ever make this joke again.
Robert - May 26, 2009
Yes
We ruin everything we touch, so let’s leave Calvin and Hobbes alone.
OlSalty - May 27, 2009
I don't rec many of your comments Robert, but I'm sure in the hell reccing this one.
Calvin and Hobbes is sacred goddamnit.
Goose - May 27, 2009
Would you say then, that your Calvin is peeing on.. Calvin peeing?

Jordan of Boise - May 27, 2009
Except Jeff. The "I love Johjima" in Calvin and Hobbes was hilarious.
.Taylor - May 27, 2009
There is a difference between what Jeff or I did and the Calvin taking a piss bastardization
Robert - May 27, 2009
Combining Miguel Batista and Calvin and Hobbes is what created the Powerpuff Girls.
.Taylor - May 27, 2009
I knew we were going to lose today
And we’re probably going to lose the next 6.
…the last time I proclaimed prescience concerning the Mariners we were 15-10. I’m just grasping for straws here…reverse karma, something…
Omerta - May 26, 2009
You have to take the season for what it is though.
I mean, its disappointing to see our team lose, but at the same time, remember the generally low expectations in the beginning of the season. If anything, this should be a prelude to next season. There will be quite a few question marks, but 1st base, DH, Catcher, could be resolved by then (Carp, Clement, Moore). The outfield is still locked up, not to mention depth just in case. Washburn and Batista should be gone (maybe Washburn could net a pitching prospect at the trade deadline). You have some good young pitching to hopefully ready to fill out the rotation. You should have Fields, Morrow, and Aumont in the bullpen, which you can say what you want, that should hopefully be a formidable bullpen. Not to mention the 2nd overall draft pick this year. And who knows what else Z could have up his sleeve if he has to resort with trading Beltre and/or Bedard.
Don’t get me wrong, I want the Mariners to win it all this season, but at least there is some optimism for 2010.
Fin - May 26, 2009
Gotta admit it's gonna suck having to wait another year though
gregrabble - May 26, 2009
You ever read the Cubs' fan's diary?
It will make you feel better. Have a read.
Decatur - May 27, 2009
Oh I didn't come into this season with any sense of false hope
I predicted 70-92…and we will most certainly end up better than that, barring catastrophic fail.
I think the most frustrating aspect of this season is that while the rest of the division is not good, we may indeed still be the worst.
Omerta - May 27, 2009
Oakland is worse.
Aaron Campeau - May 27, 2009
Salk has decided that when they get to 8 games back, they're toast for the year.
msb - May 26, 2009
That could very well be tomorrow.
gregrabble - May 26, 2009
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Fin - May 26, 2009
Joey Cora cried after this one?
I wouldn’t have thought him too emotionally invested in random mid-season Mariners games at this point in his life.
Gihyou - May 26, 2009
Unless of course he thinks he can do a better job managing this team.
ThundaPC - May 26, 2009
I can't believe we lost.
Poochie - May 27, 2009
I know it is drawing a fairly long bow to blame the loss on a guy falling in the first inning when we were already 2-0 up
But I still do.
Also, for mine, it is the funniest gif this year.
pakipaki - May 27, 2009
I've been taking a few days off from the Mariners
Cleaned my apartment on Memorial Day without turning on the radio…today I honestly forgot there was a game until it was almost over.
It’s been healthy for my sanity. I’ll come back eventually, but god damn have these games looked awful.
appleshampoo - May 27, 2009
I blame this one on my brother.
Top of the 7th, after going up 3-0, the little dipshit comes in and says “Whoa, they can win one!”.
I wanted to strike him somewhere sensitive.
