Yuni is still in, suggesting that the limit on days the Mariner coaching staff is willing to bench him is about four, as that comes to about how many he was benched for earlier and then came back drawing walks. Maybe that is what they will just do from now on, bench him for a week every month.
Gutierrez is not in the lineup, still no definitive news on his knee. I will update the post when or if we/I hear something. It might be moot anyways as thunderstorms be comin'

This is a wee bit annoying
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2009
I'd be a lot more annoyed by it if it weren't so goddamned predictable
pdb - June 11, 2009
GOD DAMMIT RONNY PLAY BETTER
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2009
HE NEEDS HIS ONLY FAN AND I HAVE FAILED
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 11, 2009
Wouldn't it make more sense not to bat 3 lefties in a row?
Poochie - June 11, 2009
Ichiro and Branyan's platoon splits are overstated.
Or, put another way, who on the team has significantly better numbers against lefties than Branyan and brings an approach that merits batting second?
I guess hitting Yuni ninth and Chavez sixth would make some sense.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 11, 2009
Just as well about the thunderstorms.
I don’t like our chances with this pitching matchup one bit, and LAA and Oakland both look to be headed for a loss. Texas might find a way to lose. Please?
Don’t know what to thhnk about Yuni in the lineup unless he’s being showcased. In any case, I think it’s apparent that Yuni is seen as part of the problem with the team by at least the coaches and the players. Zduriencik cannot possibly be happy with him either given the good glove/approach type he has favored with every other acquisition thus far, so I am comforted by the idea that he is on the phone right convincing some sucker to watch the game or better yet some archived footage circa 06.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 11, 2009
showcased?
Like “here, everybody, look at our lazy pile of shitstop! Now please, somebody make us a great offer!”?
pdb - June 11, 2009
Different strokes for different folks, you know?
Some people like that in a baseball player.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 11, 2009
I hear the Rays have a thing for lazy players.
JLProck - June 11, 2009
Dude, ir's "Lazy Pile Shitstop."
Don’t call him “of” okay? There is a limit to how offensive you can be and still get away with it, jerk. You of all people should know the line.
CapSea - June 11, 2009
I'm an insensitive bastard that's for sure
pdb - June 11, 2009
And Anti-Semantic.
What did Jewish words ever do to you?
CapSea - June 11, 2009
made me spit on people as I tried to say them, mostly
pdb - June 11, 2009
Jewish words are great for relieving smoker's cough.
CapSea - June 11, 2009
Showcasing doesn't happen.
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2009
Whatevre you want to call it. But it's much harder to get rid of a benched player than one who's on the field.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 11, 2009
but but but
if the player that’s on the field and not the bench sucks as bad as Yuni does, you could drape him with $100 bills and encrust him with jewels and still nobody would take him. Showcasing is a myth.
pdb - June 11, 2009
But if he were bejeweled we could put rhinestoneYuni on the QVC late night
and someone might purchase him on a late night, Nyquil/whiskey/fever dream fueled whim.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 11, 2009
Quick!
Get the Bedazzler!
msb - June 11, 2009
We've been showcasing Yuni for 4 years!
Sec 108 - June 11, 2009
Maybe Yuni has done what Wak has asked over the past two days
and he is getting some playing time as a reward. Also, Cedeno needs to shop playing his way out of the majors.
Jed MC - June 11, 2009
Or stop playing his way out of the majors.
Jed MC - June 11, 2009
It would be nice if he was given some regular playing time instead of a game here, an AB a few days later, a PR appearance the next day...
EnglishMariner - June 11, 2009
He was.
ThundaPC - June 11, 2009
Seriously, how can anyone truly see how good he is until he gets a chance to play full time?
Good thing Kansas City gave him that chance.
CapSea - June 11, 2009
Cedeno has not been given an extended chance at establishing his swing this year.
It is very easy to lose your swing if you are not playing regularly, and I think this has contributed to his poor results. I don’t think Ronny will ever be better than league average, but right now he is playing sub-replacement, and I partly attribute that to his lack of consistent playing time.
EnglishMariner - June 11, 2009
Cedeno has 76 PA.
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2009
Because I'm clearly serious about this.
CapSea - June 11, 2009
Sounds like it.
per Drayer
msb - June 11, 2009
I am quite confident that Yuni is on his 'last chance' and that if he fucks up again, he's gone for good.
I trust Wak and Jack on this.
EnglishMariner - June 11, 2009
I love the idea of Twitter.
Nick Swisher (why’s he care about the Mariners?), Chase Utley (ditto), and Ryan- Rowland Smith all follow the LL twitter.
craig3410 - June 11, 2009
it's almost like people can sign up for websites using fake names
pdb - June 11, 2009
I think RRS is real.
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 11, 2009
Latest twitter:
“so bored right now, the day you pitch sucks until you finally get to throw your first warm up pitch. Still got 4 hrs to go!!”
msb - June 11, 2009
Swisher is real as well.
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2009
Same with Hass
Robert - June 13, 2009
Lots of people follow anyone who follows them.
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2009
.
Phil Hatzenbuehler - June 11, 2009
Puny Yuni?
PDXTai - June 11, 2009
So if it turns out Guti is going to miss time, any chance we see Saunders?
BrianL - June 11, 2009
ACKLEY ACKLEY ACKLEY!
I don’t care if he’s signed or not, put him out there.
Phil Hatzenbuehler - June 11, 2009
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
EnglishMariner - June 11, 2009
So is this game going down?
Robert - June 11, 2009
tarp on the field, no BP.
Wait and see mode.
Matthew - June 11, 2009
Come on two hour delay!
Aaron Campeau - June 11, 2009
Jamie Burke wants to manage someday.
msb - June 11, 2009
He's a bad catcher
Of course he wants to manage someday.
Jeff Sullivan - June 11, 2009
He feels he'd have a lot of good advise for players shuttling between the Bigs and AAA.
