Enlightening Fact of the Day

Since May 1st, the Texas Rangers offense has been worth -6.4 runs compared to average, before park adjustments.

Since June 1st, the Texas Rangers offense has been worth -20.9 runs compared to average, before park adjustments. The only Ranger hitter in the black during June is David Murphy. And they have not even had to play in a NL park yet.

The Texas Rangers now have a seasonal, park-adjusted, wOBA of 0.339 against a league average of 0.341. The Texas Rangers have shown a below average offense in 2009.

It is pretty unlikely that anyone is going to luck their way into 90 wins in the AL West. I get the hopes for the Mariners to fall out of the race in order to properly maximize returns on players like Erik Bedard and Jarrod Washburn. I also get the hopes for the Mariners to jump at a chance at a seizable playoff berth this season. For better or worse, it looks like the decision one way or another is not going to be dictated by the standings for at least a few more weeks yet. Which is not to say that Zduriencik is handcuffed by that, but, it is worth pointing out that the Rangers are not the juggernaut they fooled some people into thinking they were in April.

I believe using my headline-writing criteria this would be filed under Bad News!.
I thought about spinning it that way

“Look how bad the Rangers are and we’re still going to lose to them!”

but decided copying your tone is no cure for people that already credit my posts to you.

Why are you talking to yourself?
For all intents and purposes the Rangers' offense is tied with us in OSwing%
Good post, Jeff

reminded me of this

They are strikingly similar
Rangers fans are still fooling themselves....that's the funny part.

Ian:Josh

All Rangers fans everywhere are decent, down to Earth people

and I would appreciate it if you did not insinuate that they were any less here.

Wait I think you're confusing Rangers fans with non-faggy people
Texas is a state-sized repressed homo that doesn't repress itself very well.

That said, it is a great place for recovering cocaine addicts to live.

I do not care for where this subthread is heading.
"... doesn't repress itself very well"

But not for lack of trying.

Michael Irvin agrees
I hate David Murphy...

but aside from that….

I was watching Dog the Bounty Hunter last night and at the end of the show they showed a 10-15 second promo of a CD that I think played during the episode…

The CD was Ben Broussard! That guy is gonna be huge!

Fuck The Texas

They gon wilt in the heat

So it seems the light at the end of the tunnel is getting a tad bit brighter?

Or, dimmer.. I don’t know what my own feelings are here. I know I want the Mariners to be winners again. At the beginning of the season it looked like we had a legitimate shot at it. Then it looked like we were boned. Then it looked like we had a shot, then boned again. Now it looks like we are still flirting with the possibility of winning this race this year.

How does the division project to end up at this point? Do we make new calculations for true talent levels at this point or is it too early? Surely we can’t still be at the same projected talent level as we were before the season started right? Anyone care to enlighten me?

There is no way that the Rangers being a worse team than people thought after mid-May

makes it worse for us.

I think my thoughts came out in a bum-rush of rage after losing this last series.

What I was looking for, was what the projected talent levels of our division are at this point. Are we still sitting at about a 79 win team? (if I remember correctly) Or are we projected to lose a few more than that origional projection? Same with the rest of the division. Or is it too early to assess talent levels based on the few games we have played so far?

This kind of what you're talking about?

It's interesting looking at that, only one team is projected to win fewer than 70 games
Yes thank you

The Rangers and the Angels could both make moves soon, that change the paradigm completely.

Both teams need too, and one of them will surely do something. Texas really should, and are more likely to do so. The Angels may be forced to offer a response.

Wouldn't it just be easier to use the subject line?
That would be conforming.
If I were The Man, I would feel that it has just been stuck to me
Bahaha

Well, Apparently not.

Just clicking on his username is easier.

It shows comment activity and anytime you see “Commented on ….” as opposed to “Commented [subject] on …..” you know that’s a comment without a subject

I mostly enjoyed the identical response by JI

though pdb probably mirrored that on purpose.

No, they really cannot.

There’s a limit to how much you can impact your team with mid season moves unless you make a ton of them. The Angels do not have the farm system to supply them with enough ammo to make a big enough dent in their true talent level for the 2009 season. Texas could, but they need pitching foremost and who’s going to give it to them, us? Possible, but not likely.

Tangentially related,

Ervin Santana is missing his next start with forearm issues.

SURPRISE!

I like surprises!
Wow... this fact you just shared with us has led me to enjoy the moment to some small degree

I believe this was a bona fide Fun Fact. Hot damn.
