Starting for Washington today is some guy named Craig Stammen.
WASHINGTON -- The Nationals have dismissed Randy ["Busty" -ed.] St. Claire as pitching coach and replaced him with Steve McCatty, who had the same role with Triple-A Syracuse.
Under St. Claire, the Nationals' pitching staff ranked 30th, with a 5.69 ERA. Most of the problems came from the bullpen, which has blown 12 games.
Since 2004, the Nationals have had 46 individual seasons in which a starter threw at least 30 innings. 40 of those 46 seasons featured below-average tRAs. This is solely the fault of the coach.
John Patterson might want to lock his doors in preparation for when St. Claire reaches the angry stage.

I've been staring at this post for the last 10 minutes trying to figure out how much sarcasm is in it.
I think I’m coming up with about 70%.

What everyone really wants to know is
how will this affect their Strassburg decision.
Bearskin Rugburn - June 2, 2009
So, this means they'll DFA Strasburg sometime around 2013, right?
eponymous_coward - June 2, 2009
Nobody cares about the Nationals
Poochie - June 2, 2009
Not for at least another week
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2009
If the Nationals draft Strausburg you can cockpunch me, but if we draft Starusburg I am to be modded predominantly.
Poochie - June 2, 2009
Johann Strausburg and Heinz Starusburg aren't eligible for the draft until 2010.
Phil Hatzenbuehler - June 2, 2009
Is that the word you meant to use?
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2009
I'm going to guess self-parody.
Eyebrows - June 2, 2009
What do you think?
Poochie - June 2, 2009
Deal, screenshotted
Robert - June 2, 2009
But oddly I'm a big fan of the Natinals

Your semantics are a waste of time
Graham MacAree - June 2, 2009
In an odd bit of symmetry so are the Nationals
pdb - June 2, 2009
Are they someone's fantasy team?
If so, they have rather bizzarre fantasies.

Those deck chairs won't rearrange themselves
serotonein - June 2, 2009
If the deck was at a severe enough vertical angle, they certainly might.
Matthew - June 2, 2009
Does that make firing Bowden a timely release of ballast?
serotonein - June 2, 2009
So in that case all the deck chairs fall overboard
I’m beginning to get it
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2009
Surprised they don't just hire Strasburg's pitching coach
With the investment they’re undoubtedly going to make in the kid, might as well make him as comfortable as possible by sticking with what’s worked.
