Tonight was Refuse to Watch night for me.
But yay!
Teej - June 2, 2009
Yes Mariners thanks for doing this tonight while I was at band practice instead of last night while I was at the game.
Aaron Campeau - June 2, 2009
Just when you thought this team was dead Griffey rises like the phoenix to save it
OlSalty - June 2, 2009
Griffey says he's willing to do the little things
but if he really wanted to help the team win he’d save his home runs for when the M’s really need them.
Nate Dogg - June 2, 2009
We won. No one can take that one away.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
They can if Erik Bedard didn't take his own SAT.
Aaron Campeau - June 2, 2009
Besides, we played well tonight.
Bedard pitched well, Ichiro kept his steak alive, and although we left runners on base, we also brought some home.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
When I think of Mariners likely to skin a cow alive and feast on its flesh, Ichiro's not exactly the first to come to mind
Tube - June 2, 2009
If Ichiro can do that, he's reach a whole new level of "rare"
Craig Powers - June 3, 2009
It was too hot out there
But I had a blast.
section331 - June 2, 2009
Gameday said it was 83 degrees and I couldn't believe it
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2009
It was nasty
We were sitting in direct sunlight for about 45 minutes before it finally went down before the game started, and it just stayed hot – it’s not the hot part I mind – it’s the swamp-ass humidity we’ve been having. I love AZ heat because it’s dry, but this is stupid.
section331 - June 2, 2009
It felt like the midwest today.
It was gross.
Aaron Campeau - June 2, 2009
It's going to keep on, too
I just watched the news, and it’s supposed to be like this into the weekend. Yoiks!
section331 - June 2, 2009
The heat can stay, the mugginess can go.
Matthew - June 2, 2009
If we have to keep the muggy for the heat to stay I am ok with it.
We deserve this after such a shitty cold winter.
Sec 108 - June 3, 2009
Uncomfortably muggy is just as unbearable as shitty winter weather to me.
Aaron Campeau - June 3, 2009
My wife says I am crazy, but I miss a muggy day every once in a while.
My trip to Missouri last summer was awesome for me, but she hated it.
Sec 108 - June 3, 2009
I'm telling you.
It’s why Jr had three extra base hits.
msb - June 2, 2009
C'mon down to Portland!
85 and thunderstorms on the menu for today! Whee! Humidity is AWESOME! Especially when it falls from the sky as rain!
pdb - June 3, 2009
Yeah the humidity was ridiculous today
OlSalty - June 2, 2009
Only in Seattle, is 84 degrees too hot.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
84 degrees is always too hot.
Teej - June 2, 2009
There it is.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
And I live in Southern California.
The sun can fuck off, for all I care.
Teej - June 2, 2009
:(
.
vivaelpujols - June 2, 2009
It's also humid as fuck here
Which made it feel a lot hotter
OlSalty - June 2, 2009
Absolutely true.
BrettJMiller - June 2, 2009
84 + humidity is gross no matter where you are.
84 by itself is not too hot unless you are a whiny person.
Matthew - June 2, 2009
I am, without any semblance of doubt, a whiny person.
Teej - June 2, 2009
Personally, I'd argue that 84 without humdity is tolerable, while 84 without is not.
But 84 is comfortable only when there is a nice breeze to go along with it.
Also, I am at least moderately whiny.
BrettJMiller - June 2, 2009
Especially when humidity is involved.
msb - June 2, 2009
Exactly.
BrettJMiller - June 3, 2009
*84 WITH humidity is not.
I’m an idiot.
BrettJMiller - June 3, 2009
Yeah, great game to go to but it was pretty hot indeed.
lailaihei - June 2, 2009
There too.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
People have every right to not like hot weather.
Aaron Campeau - June 2, 2009
I agree, I hate hot weather.
Seattle is generally very livable, but sometimes it is both hot and humid. I hate that.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
I like hot but I hate muggy
Aaron Campeau - June 2, 2009
I can't think of any major city in America that has a more mild climate than Seattle.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
san diego?
arbeck77 - June 2, 2009
San Diego gets pretty muggy.
I don’t think there’s a better city than Seattle, but when when it get muggy here, we natives complain big time.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
It really doesn't get humid here more than a week or two a year.
Teej - June 2, 2009
BUT IT GETS REALLY FUCKING HOT
Jeff Sullivan - June 2, 2009
I agree. Fuck this place.
But I say this as someone who thinks 80 degrees is worse than an eternity in hell. It’s hard to find another city where you can be this comfortable 12 months a year.
Teej - June 2, 2009
At least you don't live in the desert
seattlebruin - June 3, 2009
San Diego is more mild.
We have a few weeks of annoying heat, but we don’t get any of the cold winter.
Teej - June 2, 2009
I guess.
Although the sun’s ALOT more intense at that latitude, as I learned to my shoulders’ dismay a while back.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
It seldom breaks 90 here.
I find pretty much any heat to be obnoxious, but compared with other cities, San Diego is very mild. I’d rather live in Seattle, but when it comes to consistency in knowing what the weather’s going to look like when you wake up, it’s tough to beat San Diego. It’s either sunny or a little more sunny.
Teej - June 2, 2009
Boy, that kind of forecast would be nice.
We get sunny, partly sunny, cloudly, sprinkles, showers, rain. all in one day. It’s a little hard to know what to expect.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
msb - June 2, 2009
Great pic.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
Speaking of which:
I read this book by Cliff Mass called The Weather of the Pacific Northwest and it was fantastic. Best thing I read about Pacific Northwest weather since I found Wolf Read’s The Storm King website.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
Cliff's book is a bit more rigorous that Steve & Scott's :)
but they both point out that it is hell to forecast around here.
Nice piece about Mass here
msb - June 2, 2009
Do you know the guy?
If so, cool!
Decatur - June 2, 2009
Nope.
I feel as though I do, though having listened to him on KUOW for years — and I use both his blog & Sistek’s when feeding my winter weather paranoia.
msb - June 2, 2009
He was on channel 9 today
Apparently Seattle has one of the driest summers in the nation.
Milendriel - June 2, 2009
Steve Pool is a faggot
Robert - June 3, 2009
I'm from there, I understand.
Teej - June 2, 2009
Oakland
Paytheline - June 2, 2009
Hmmm...I've heard the Bay Area feels chilly and damp for most of the year.
Never been, though.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
San Francisco can
but when you get inland in the SF area it gets hot fast.
pdb - June 3, 2009
Portland
ignacio - June 3, 2009
and Seattle's traffic is much worse
ignacio - June 3, 2009
Portland's climate is warmer than Seattle's
in the summer it’s typically about 10 degrees warmer here than there, and we don’t have the Sound cooling us down so we get humidity as well. Not Northeastern or Southern humidity, but still.
pdb - June 3, 2009
I hate when it doesn't feel hot but I'm still sweating like [dead meme]
Mariner John - June 2, 2009
I was at the game today too... was there any mention in the pregame, or do people know in general, why Jaukubaskas was wearing a little pink backpack before the game?
Because I am intrigued.
Torrid - June 2, 2009
Rookie hazing.
Morrow:

Decatur - June 2, 2009
Jak is a rookie
The backpack is full of either medical supplies or snacks for the bullpen (I think the Hello KItty one is snacks, the princess one Jak was wearing is medical stuff). They burn it at the end of the season. I would gladly take the HK one….
section331 - June 2, 2009
Damn
Decatur beat me to it with a shorter answer. haha!
section331 - June 2, 2009
You're the blogger, not me. You should be quicker on the draw.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
I'm longer-winded. :/
section331 - June 2, 2009
.
msb - June 2, 2009
I hope his insulin was in that pack when they burnt it.
Robert - June 3, 2009
Well thanks to both of you.
I was sort of hoping it was some mark of shame. But rookie hazing is always good.
Torrid - June 2, 2009
That's kind of a mark of shame.
They don’t seem to like it much.
section331 - June 2, 2009
Apparently there is a third one this year
here
msb - June 2, 2009
I saw that and was curious why it wasn't pink.
Mariner John - June 2, 2009
Our team is so fucking unimaginative.
Matthew - June 2, 2009
So Ibanez hit two more two-run jacks tonight (19 on the season)
Has he been worth more wins than the entire Mariners team put together?
johnbai - June 2, 2009
That's a sad observation.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
His 2009 UZR fell from 6-something to 3 something in only a week!
He must’ve had a Raul-esque week in the field.
Also, I wonder if FanGraphs will create a feature that let’s you track UZR data-week by week over the course of a season – that would be sweet.
Decatur - June 2, 2009
Mariners are 9 WAR. As of yesterday, Ibanez was worth 3 WAR.
I know it was not a serious question but I still think the answer is pretty cool.
CapSea - June 2, 2009
So you're saying that the entire Mariners team could probably beat Raul Ibanez in a baseball game?
johnbai - June 3, 2009
9 Rauls couldnt field a cold. Not that that would guarantee victory or anything
JamMasterJesus - June 3, 2009
No I meant 9 Mariners vs. 1 Raul
johnbai - June 3, 2009
catch a cold
pdb - June 3, 2009
He's saying that the entire Mariners team could beat an average AAA team with Raul Ibanez playing in left field
Graham MacAree - June 3, 2009
Or better,
The entire Mariner team would tie a team of Ibanez, 3 league average players, and the remainder AAA/replacement players. Or I’m not saying anything.
CapSea - June 3, 2009
He really, really likes the NL.
msb - June 2, 2009
No
Graham MacAree - June 2, 2009
so,
Tex loves Tino.
msb - June 2, 2009
You are 2 or 2 tonight. Nice.
Sinking Away - June 2, 2009
So where did Branyan's homer land?
I couldnt really tell on the MLB.com replay, seemed like he got all of it, but that he skied it. Couldn’t see where it went exactly.
Eyebrows - June 2, 2009
A picture!
joof - June 2, 2009
I thought that might have been Brett for a second.
Fin - June 3, 2009
Brett's body is magnetically pulled to any ball hit by Branyan
.Taylor - June 3, 2009
I'm the guy with the Orioles jersey above the Boeing logo in the front row.
lailaihei - June 3, 2009
Traitor!
JamMasterJesus - June 3, 2009
Hm... I'm guessing it's an Adam Jones jersey
CapSea - June 3, 2009
Tonight we were not raped by a bear!
Matthew - June 2, 2009
That seems to be a good thing
joof - June 2, 2009
Progress!
OlSalty - June 3, 2009
Speaking of bears...
if you ever wondered what Mark Schlereth would look like without the razor and hair gel, I give you Dan Schlereth
msb - June 2, 2009
Most predictable win ever.
Poochie - June 3, 2009
Your mum is the most predictable lay ever.
