Weeee! Finally, for those of us who want to watch Mariner games and pretty much nothing else on cable TV will have a solution that allows us to avoid paying for cable TV for ~$50/month.
The offering, which will be implemented through an authentication process managed by Cablevision and MLBAM, will be available exclusively to Cablevision customers who subscribe to the Family Cable (expanded basic) level of television service and Optimum Online.

You stupid morons. What's the bloody point? So I can watch games when I am around a computer with an internet connection, in the NY media area, but for some reason not around a TV that can show the game? Wow. That's a gaping need in the market.

I would not be in the least surprised if this were just phase one
MLBAM hasn’t made too many mistakes up to this point so I’d be surprised if this wasn’t just the first part in some sort of structured rollout where they start to devolve streaming rights from league to team. Which may mean, eventually, that instead of paying one fee to mlb.tv for all games in a season, you’d pay each team a fee for streams of their games. Which would suck.

Or 360, whatever. The damn devices can support streaming HD movies, why not streaming baseball? I would love to watch baseball from the comfort of my couch without having to hook my laptop up to my tv.

There is a market...
People at work. Especially those of us with lots of computers around us, but no TV/cable.
Of course, I’m a DirecTV subscriber at home, and I’m not willing to pay for the MLBTV service anymore, so it’s a moot point for me. However, I would love a reasonably priced option to watch the games online (even if it’s just a package to watch a single team), with no blackout restrictions, just so I could have them running on my laptop or one of the spare machines when I’m in the studio.

like ESPN and Verizon. I can watch ESPN 360 on any computer with an internet connection because I pay for Verizon internet at home. It’s nice for when I’m at work late or out of town.

It's because soon the sports channels are going to be pushed to only those with digital boxes.
They’ve already done that with all the channels around YES/MSG/SNY, it’s only a matter of time before they cut the non-digital box versions from their standard lineup.
It’s all about placating the people that don’t want to pay 6$/Month/TV to watch all the channels they paid for, while making them switch to it eventually when they realize it’s a pain to watch on their computer when the TV is right there.
I can’t wait until FIOS shows up in the non-rich sections of NNJ. I’ll move into a shoebox to get away from fucking Cablevision.
