OK, so we assume that no ones true talent level is a .400 hitter
thus a batter needs to get lucky in order to hit .400 for a season. Basic statistics shows us that over a large enough sample, you should regress towards the true probability – the smaller the sample, the greater the chance to be lucky over a small sample and hit .400 for a season
But Ichiro only probably gets ~100-150 more AB than other hitters. Over the course of hundreds of at-bats, is it really so significant that it means he’s less likely to hit .400 than say, Mauer? Especially if his BABIP is higher than most hitters?
I was a little surprised to be honest. I know the stats don’t have good things to say about him putting up another year like this, but I would have thought you guys would be more militant about keeping him around given the season he’s having.
On the other hand you guys are the first people to give him a real chance at a starting slot, and he’s playing the right position to have some longevity. You could probably squeeze another 2-3 good years out of him before he starts to slide.
I’m not saying you guys are WRONG about him by any means. He could Brad Fulmer on you guys at any time- I’m just surprised that given the amount of team carrying he’s doing at the moment, you’re not more attached to him.
but if there’s anything valuable and we’re in a selling position, you have to take it and just assume that Branyan will be available again in November if you really want him back.
It depends on how favorable the contract terms are whether I'd be in favor of it, really
I’m not saying I would be opposed to it, but I also would really like to restock our farm system as much as possible before we lose a lot of talent to free agency this offseason, and since we have a lot of depth at 1B if Branyan can get us a nice return I think it’d be worth it to ship him off.
Poop!
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Cedeno can't possibly be this bad, can he?
Smegmalicious - June 27, 2009
He is quickly getting past the point of "give him consistent AB's and he will produce"
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
He is in the position of send him to single A and have him work his way back up the system.
mark sobba - June 27, 2009

Poochie - June 27, 2009
He watches himself pitch.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
when he becomes aroused it sticks out so I don't see your point
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
I don't think you know how a tripod works.

The third leg on a tripod doesn't stick straight out
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009

OlSalty - June 27, 2009

Possible Cy Young considertion?
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Much as I hate to say it, he's going to need to win more games
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
He probably needs to got 19-4 or so unless we make the playoffs
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
He's on pace to win about 15.
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
Won't get the job done
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
will probebly need more wins for consideration, unfortunately
God I hate that stat.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Right now I don't think anyone is close to Greinke in that race
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Greinke has kind of fallen off the last four or five starts
and Felix has just gotten better. He’s legitimately in the race if he wins 20
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Isn't the rule of thumb it's the guy that gets off to the fast start has the reputation?
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
I'd agree, but if the M's make the playoffs, it could make things interesting
especially if Felix ends up with similar wins and ERA to Greinke.
God, why am I discussing wins and ERA like they matter… =(
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Because a lot of people think they matter
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Because we like to see Felix happy?
joof - June 27, 2009
Because they matter, I know what you're saying.

seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009

SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009

Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
93 pitches

Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
that stupid hit and run...
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
"It's going to take at least three more runs for me to be comfortable handing this game off to the bullpen."
It’s your own fault for crunching the numbers.
msb - June 27, 2009

Heydude - June 27, 2009
ichiro locked in. think he can break his own record?
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
So Ichiro.
Outside chance he bats .400 this year?
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
God damn you, beating me to it.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
He probably bats too much to do it
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
I never understand this argument.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Over a longer period of time, guys tend to trend toward their regular skill level.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Better shot if he only had 10 ABs
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Gotta get walks.. Going 1 for 2 with 2 walks is better than 1 for 4
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
The more at bats you get, the more you approach your true talent level and the less wild variation you have
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Instead of taking more walks, he hits into outs.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
OK, so we assume that no ones true talent level is a .400 hitter
thus a batter needs to get lucky in order to hit .400 for a season. Basic statistics shows us that over a large enough sample, you should regress towards the true probability – the smaller the sample, the greater the chance to be lucky over a small sample and hit .400 for a season
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
I understand this.
But Ichiro only probably gets ~100-150 more AB than other hitters. Over the course of hundreds of at-bats, is it really so significant that it means he’s less likely to hit .400 than say, Mauer? Especially if his BABIP is higher than most hitters?
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
I'd say yes.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Absolutely
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
That's roughly another quarter season of at bats
that’s a HUGE number of extra at bats – he would need to get between 40 and 60 more hits than other hitters in that scenario.
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
So if Joe Mauer has a great season and gets 205 hits and hits .400
Ichiro needs to set another new ML hits record just to keep pace
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Yeah makes sense.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Ichiro has a lifetime BA of .333 to Mauer's .324
I don’t know the math but I’m pretty sure that the extra AB’s cancel out that advantage.
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Pft.
Mauer is already batting .400
msb - June 27, 2009
He's down to like .394 now.
Nobody beats the Ichiro.
I Lick Squirrels - June 27, 2009
Very, very, very outside.
Teej - June 27, 2009
My goodness Ichiro
.376
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
sooooo...
>.>
<.<
.400?
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
No
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
That BABIP is going to regress eventually.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
Not necessarily
I think Jeff or Matthew pointed out a ~.390 BABIP in 2004
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Is that about where he is now?
BrianL - June 27, 2009
A little below, I think
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Sure enough.
For some reason I thought his BABIP was north of .400.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
His career babip is really high though
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
.358 != .391
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Yeah but it's not as huge of a difference as you would expect
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
But yes there's no way he'll hit .400
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
Not so much.. You need to walk a bit for that - Ichiro doesn't much do that
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
Absolutely
Poochie - June 27, 2009
He's the only player in the majors I think is even close to capable.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Hitters like Mauer have a better shot.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Barry Bonds was the most likely player to do it
and if he can’t do it nobody can.
No one has even hit .390 in modern baseball given a full season’s worth of PAs, and .380 has only been done once.
Poochie - June 27, 2009
I think being a catcher actually helps Mauer in this case
because it keeps his ABs to a minimum. Plus he’s very patient
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Mauer's case is help by him missing a month
But it would still hold true that no one has hit that high given a full season’s worth (145 or so starts) of at bats
Poochie - June 27, 2009
I'd be impressed if any player with more than 450 PAs managed to hit .400 for a season
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
water is wet
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
Liar
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Gwynn hit .394 in ~110 games
Poochie - June 27, 2009
And that was really impressive
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Jesus christ.
Ichiro is going to lead us to the playoffs.
AtomicGarden - June 27, 2009
Ichiro is the Japanese Jesus Christ
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Anyone know how many hits he'd be on pace for if he hadn't missed those 8 games?
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Probably the same, with the way he hits in April
msb - June 27, 2009
I don't think he would have gone 0 for 32 in those games
gregrabble - June 27, 2009

Felix is already at 93
so much for going from Felix straight to Aardsma. The 8th is not gonna be fun.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
White!
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Felix is a horse.
No reason to think he can’t get through the eighth.
Teej - June 27, 2009
unless he somehow gets through the 7th in, like, 8 pitches, I think he won't be seeing the 8th.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Oh snap, I thought we were going into the eighth.
Nuhrmind.
Teej - June 27, 2009
If he could have a really quick inning here there'd be a chance
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
It's not like he's a rookie on a pitch count.
They probably don’t want him throwing more than 115 or 120, but that’s a lot of pitches away.
Teej - June 27, 2009
God, we need Kelley back so badly.
joof - June 27, 2009

seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
What is his timeine?
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
On 2nd thought, pitcher's spot coming up next inning. He'll be done after this
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Only coming up if there are men on base though
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
Oh we're probably in luck than
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Yeah because we have such better hitters on the bench
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
You know that won't matter in terms of whether or not they PH for him
Especially with his PC over 100
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Defensive Substitution woooooo
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
So Felix has slowly gotten better and better tonight
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
How many line drives?
I only remember 2 or 3
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
One
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Really?
am I inventing line drives in my head?
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Yes
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Maybe it's two if you count the one Ichiro dropped
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
I thought that was a line drive
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Probably was
Gameday just doesn’t call it anything.

Not a good night for Ichiro in the field.

BrianL - June 27, 2009
Yep. Terrible!
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
It's pretty bad for Ichiro
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009

He just usually comes up with those.

royalcurve - June 27, 2009
This is where Fogel would come in handy
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Either to the left or up.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Sooooo close.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
Dammit so close!
gregrabble - June 27, 2009

Three feet to the left and its 5-1
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
Have I mentioned how sexy he is?
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 27, 2009
GUTZ!
Heydude - June 27, 2009
That's a shame
I wanted to try out the Gay Bash meme
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Stupid Fence.
I thought it was gone. =(
joof - June 27, 2009
Locked-in
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
BULLSHIT
ten inches higher or ten inches left and that’s a homer
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Can't hate on that. Nice swing, Gutz.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Jesus, Dave just called that a homerun I just about launched into the ceiling
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
That boy has got some legit power
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
I had already typed out "FUNK BL"
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Yes Vin we get it he's from Montana
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Seriously, I love the guy to death but he's mentioned it like five times.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Has he made a Butte pun yet?
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
And Rob Johnson at the plate...
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Felix is going back out apparently
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Felix headin out for the 8th?
Nobody up in the pen
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
I hate having a black hole in the lineup after Gutz
Manzanillos Cup - June 27, 2009
*khaki
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Felix coming back for the 8th
101 pitches? NOT SURE IF WANT
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
PUSSY
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Correct me if wrong
but the last time felix went back out at 101, didn’t it end badly?
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
We won the game, so no.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
YES YES YES
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Felix hasn't homered yet.
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Pinch hit damn it
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
Or that works
Felix getting a hit would be hilariously awesome
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
Felix out there in the 8th shows the confidence Wak has in the setup guys eh?
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
Well that's something
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
Here comes a 3 run HR
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Haha, IBB to Cedeno
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Please let the King bat!
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
Awesome, that's fear right there
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
So this is silly.
joof - June 27, 2009
Pinch-hit for fuck's sake.
Teej - June 27, 2009
That would be hilarious
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Nice!
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
Intentional walks are almost always stupid
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Especially when they're issued to the pitcher
or a guy that hits like noe
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Pujols should be walked 100% of the time.
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
I would welcome it
Poochie - June 27, 2009
SQUEEZE
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
OH MY GOD I JUST DIED LAUGHING
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 27, 2009
This is fun.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
That location is fine. pitch was fucking disgusting
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
What the fuck happened here?
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
This makes so much sense it's almost sickening
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
Is this really worth Felix pitching the eighth? I can't decide.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
He's due.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Who walks Cedeno to get to Felix?
Ha ha ha, Cmon 3 run homer.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
Id be shocked if he swings the bat
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
I can dream, right?
Heydude - June 27, 2009
Trying to force Wak to pull Felix for a pinch hitter or am I wrong?
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
Not a far fetched idea at all.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
You know at this point in his life Rony almost wanted to swing at those
mark sobba - June 27, 2009
I feel as if I would rather have faced Cedeno there
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Well that's the best thing I've seen all week.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
That was it Felix
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
HR FELIX!
mark sobba - June 27, 2009
Ten of Gutierrez's last 23 hits have been for extra bases
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Gutz=stud
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
That wasn't a strike
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
That sucks.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Hack, dammit
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
FELIX DON'T NEED NO INSURANCE
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
He's like Casey
joof - June 27, 2009
I love how that IBB means Ichiro will lead off the next inning
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Oh well
I feel cautiously optimistic that Felix can cruise
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
How could I become the best umpire I can be in one week?
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
So I just check on the game
Felix has 106 pitches and they don’t pinch hit? What the hell, Wak?
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
I don't know
he also may have been the best option to hit there
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
No confidence in the bullpen.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
THIS
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
IS
mark sobba - June 27, 2009
Or the bench either.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
This too.
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Something to do with Felix's 20 pound balls
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
please say that's a typo.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
See above
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 27, 2009
Ok, I'm missing somthing, aren't I?
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Heavier?
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
*200
joof - June 27, 2009
maybe that's why he couldn't walk.
JY - June 27, 2009
I'm a little pissed, but hey, whatever. Felix can get through the eighth.
Teej - June 27, 2009
GOD I FUCKING HATE JOURNEY
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
Sing it sister
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Thanks, Glee
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Awesome.
msb - June 27, 2009
They better stop believing.
Slurvey - June 27, 2009
Maybe it's just the camera shot.
But it looks like the bullpens are in the middle of a Christmas tree lot.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
Ump has a bit of a wide strikezone tonight
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
Sit your bitch ass down
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Mmmmmmmmm
So good
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
SIT THE FUCK DOWN
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Ok, WHY is Gutierez the only player name that Sims feels compelled to overenunciate?
msb - June 27, 2009
I'd go off on another Dave Sims rant.
But that might get me chewed out again.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
He's awesome.
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Pretty much yeah
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
Yes, it would.
Hating on commentators is already trite, but it’s an even bigger foul when you hate on someone as awesome as Sims.
Teej - June 27, 2009
I never really notice.
People complain all the time, though.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Because it's fun?
joof - June 27, 2009
He says that's how Gutierrez told him it was pronounced. Sims asked Frankie about it.
BrettJMiller - June 27, 2009
He's trying to roll the rr, and failing miserably.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Why hasn;t he asked any other players?
msb - June 27, 2009
GOD DAMNED!
AtomicGarden - June 27, 2009
I guess that's why he is still in.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Go Felix Go!
Heydude - June 27, 2009
Hot.
I’m a little aroused.
joof - June 27, 2009
We all are.
mark sobba - June 27, 2009
Daaaamn
Wonder what the vertical movement on that one was
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
So Felix is pretty good.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Goodness. Felix... Wow.
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009

Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009

IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
FELIX!!!
JetersNeverProsper - June 27, 2009
Oh my God Felix I love you.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
Rick Griffin to Wak: "I think he can go 10 innings."
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
He's a big, strong kid.
msb - June 27, 2009
Just..... wow.
seattlesundevil - June 27, 2009
Holy fucking lovely Felix
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 27, 2009
Sex.
joof - June 27, 2009

Just fucking amazing.
AtomicGarden - June 27, 2009

OlSalty - June 27, 2009

gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Horses?

I love when he starts walking off before the umpire calls anything.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Me too.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
Felix is awesome.
Just plain awesome.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
There it is
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
I don't want to think about what my life would be like if not for Felix Hernandez
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
A barren, sterile existence that ends in your death
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
So wait how is that different?
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
.
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
So more yellow?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
We'd be the next Rays?
joof - June 27, 2009
More like Gays amirite
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Hmm, I don't believe there are any homosexuals on the Tampa Bay Rays.
joof - June 27, 2009
You are correct sir!!
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Gutz traded to Atlanta.
I don’t think I could handle that.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
I could kick that pirate's ass
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Hey!!!!
I resemble that.
msb - June 27, 2009
Jesus Felix.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Redundant.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
I like it
King is no longer adequate
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
So... anyone want the 9th?
I do.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Going past 120 scares me
He’s too sacred.
AtomicGarden - June 27, 2009
I'm cool with Aardsma.
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Well, he's done.
At least I got my 8th.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Now that we can go straight to Aardsma, I'm OK with Felix calling it a night.
Heydude - June 27, 2009
I think we can let the aardsma express carry this one out
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
So about this Felix guy...
Apparently he’s pretty good?
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Felix is a beautiful pitcher to watch pitch.
ignacio - June 27, 2009
Fastball, curveball, slider for the K, holy shit
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
Excellent.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
What are our odds of winning tomorrow's game and taking the series?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Not good, but oh well
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
What if Carp and Branyan both start?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Slightly better
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Hot diggity
Poochie - June 27, 2009
~0%
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Not good but I'll honestly be content just winning this one.
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Vegas has us as 3-1 underdogs I think.
mark sobba - June 27, 2009
Well when a team can win on a little league HR *coughcoughAngelscoughcough* anything's possible.
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Actually they won on a big boy homer
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Very big boy.
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Well they won by one and that play happened...so I'm still counting it.
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
So hey Ichiro is batting .376 now.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Felix needs a promotion.
We need the pope to declare him Holy Roman Emperor.
joof - June 27, 2009
Nah...because that empire fell...
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Oops...misread that...
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Felix wouldn't let the new Empire fall.
msb - June 27, 2009
Damn I wanted him to get a 4th hit
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
I can't believe Garrett Olson is starting tomorrow
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Get your own jokes
Poochie - June 27, 2009
This isn't a joke
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
His turn comes once every five games
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Six?
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Hmm
Game, Game, Game, Game, Game
Am I missing something?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
No, you're right
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
.
msb - June 27, 2009
Yup he's a man

Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
OH SEX!
NO MORE SAVE OPPORTUNITY!
FELIX! FELIX! ALL HAIL KING FELIX!
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Do me.
Teej - June 27, 2009
Holy smokes
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
.
Poochie - June 27, 2009
we need a branyan version of this
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
Don't fuck with perfection
Poochie - June 27, 2009
It couldn't possibly be better
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Unless it was Branyan instead of Sexson
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
It's too bad that Trey Parker doesn't shop Butters into season one of South Park in order to enhance the re-runs
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Butters make everything better.
joof - June 27, 2009
Who is responsible for this?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
We certainly do.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
This one does just fine, thanks.
Manzanillos Cup - June 27, 2009
BRANYAN THE MANYAN!
joof - June 27, 2009
This game is like a zillion times better than last night's game.
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
I love how that man continues to hit lefties.
Manzanillos Cup - June 27, 2009
COME ON ADRIAN GO OUT ON A HIGH NOTE
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
Yeah I'd really love for him to do something good in this last AB
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
I wish I could find that picture where he looks stoned out of his mind
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Russell likes playing every day.
msb - June 27, 2009
What was the hang time on that?
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
Branyan is God
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Am I the only one who doesn't want him to go to the HR Derby and mess up his swing?
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
I like how the Home Run Derby AL ballot includes Branyan and Ichiro
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
He already has a upper cut swing
so I don’t think it will matter.
houseofprime - June 27, 2009
One more time against a lefty.
ignacio - June 27, 2009
HE RUINED THE SAVE CHANCE!
Teej - June 27, 2009
This is now the second best game this year...
Ichiro’s granny game still tops the list for me…
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
I will miss the twinkle toes, Beltre.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
How about one last appeal to first?
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Are we leaving him behind in Chavez Ravine?
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Yup.
Well, almost. He’ll stay home in LA and then visit Old Doc Yocum.
msb - June 27, 2009
That swing looked like it hurt
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
I want one more appeal
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
If Beltre were actually hurt he wouldn't be playing
Poochie - June 27, 2009
Damn :(
Bye Adrian
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
GODSPEED BELTRE
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
I saw Jeff's comment about Branyan as trade bait.
I was a little surprised to be honest. I know the stats don’t have good things to say about him putting up another year like this, but I would have thought you guys would be more militant about keeping him around given the season he’s having.
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
Matthew wrote that
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
And also Branyan's a free agent this winter
if we want him back we can get him back.
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
And didn't he say something about wanting to resign after this year?
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
Not as far as I know
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Not if he signs an extension with whoever you trade him to.
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
Well, right
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
You all look the same to me.
/Morpheus
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
It's more about the team having some other 1B options available
Along with having deficiencies in other places.
DKCecil - June 27, 2009
This
Both Carp and Clement are ready at 1st. If we can get a shiny, young, good SS Trade him.
IceStormV1 - June 27, 2009
But if you trade Branyan you're completely deficient in the Totally Awesome Home Runs department
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Not to mention the Brawny Branyaness department.
msb - June 27, 2009
He's awesome but if we're not in contention and can get something shiny for him then we should.
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
I would think about extending him at this point.
Poochie - June 27, 2009
It would only be fair to offer to extend him as much as he extends us
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
So 11 inches?
Poochie - June 27, 2009
lol extenze
Teej - June 27, 2009
i dont need that fagot shit
Poochie - June 27, 2009
33 year old TTO first basemen scare the beejesus out of me
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
True, but his skillset seems to have changed and it may be worth rolling the dice to get him cheap for a few years
If nothing shiny is offered.
Poochie - June 27, 2009
I don't disagree
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
We're a little defeatist around here, if you haven't noticed
and probably more importantly, with Bedard, Beltre and Endy out, our playoff chances look a lot worse than they would if everyone was healthy
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Oh, I understand that part of it
I just figured that after the Richie Sexson debacle you’d be more protective of a 1B who can actually hit.
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
Sexson could hit until 2007.
Aaron Campeau - June 27, 2009
If we can't resign him and we're not making the playoffs, it makes a lot of sense to see what he's worth
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Richie could hit when we first signed him
And Russell is 33, so we would also want to make sure we didn’t make the same mistake again by giving him too much in his declining years.
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
True.
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
People around here are plenty attached, they're just being realistic.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
We're very attached to him but it would be silly not to trade him if we fall out of the race and someone offers a shiny prospect
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
You guys have anyone particular in mind as far as prospects go?
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
Carp or Clement.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
Oh you mean who to get in return if Branyan is dealt?
No idea.
BrianL - June 27, 2009
Rosterbation is frowned on around here.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Not really
but if there’s anything valuable and we’re in a selling position, you have to take it and just assume that Branyan will be available again in November if you really want him back.
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Okay then. I think I understand now.
Thanks for taking the time to talk with me about it.
Zu Long - June 27, 2009
It depends on how favorable the contract terms are whether I'd be in favor of it, really
I’m not saying I would be opposed to it, but I also would really like to restock our farm system as much as possible before we lose a lot of talent to free agency this offseason, and since we have a lot of depth at 1B if Branyan can get us a nice return I think it’d be worth it to ship him off.
OlSalty - June 27, 2009
Absolutely
Poochie - June 27, 2009
With Beltre going down we're running out of trade pieces
OlSalty - June 27, 2009

Heydude - June 27, 2009
Apparently we are trying to wreck Matt Kemp
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Or the center field wall. Whichever comes first.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Brent Leach seems like he's good
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
I was thinking the same thing.
He’s fit in with our bullpen.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Too left-handed
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Aardsma time.
Heydude - June 27, 2009

joof - June 27, 2009

TrashiDawa - June 27, 2009
Angry Jose Guillen just got hit in the face with a ball as it came off the wall...
SebastianPruiti - June 27, 2009
Is he angrier?
msb - June 27, 2009

I like that one, all left handed
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
YOU AMAZINGLY SEXY FLIER
Kirsten Schlewitz - June 27, 2009
I'm beginning to think our relievers have an ability to produce really long fly balls
that don’t leave the yard.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Did Rob just get cup-checked?
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
More importantly, did he win?
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
If he lost, would he have to go back on the bereavement list?
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
James Loney is a soldier, a fighter, a ghetto survivor
or at least that’s what it sounds like when you walk up to “All the Above”
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Aardsma throws haardsma
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
Oh God no.
SethGrandpa - June 27, 2009
Sims made some comment about an aarduous road trip....
msb - June 27, 2009
I don't know if that was a pun
I think it’s just a word
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009
Oh it wasn't.
I was just enjoying the sound of it.
msb - June 27, 2009
Does anyone else not like Russell Martin?
Manzanillos Cup - June 27, 2009
I wish he played for us.
Slow Country - June 27, 2009
He gives a bad name to Russells everywhere.
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
I guarantee we are going to lose this game
Jeff Sullivan - June 27, 2009

Heydude - June 27, 2009
Last Beltre pep talk!
Fuckmikereilly - June 27, 2009
Get back, Loretta.
msb - June 27, 2009
These closers always get strange when it's not a save.
ignacio - June 27, 2009
Just saw Vin Scully call of Griff's homer on MLB Network
I can die now
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
That good?
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
I now want to check it out.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
Meh.
Nothing spectacular in my opinion
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
For the record, I am not a big fan of Vin Scully.
He is a great storyteller, but I want to fall asleep by the 2nd inning.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
You're not sleepy, you are hypnotized
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
He makes every baseball game a pleasant float down the river.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Sounds good to me.
royalcurve - June 27, 2009
Of course.
I love Vin Scully.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
I kind of expect sepia toned players wearing flannel uniforms when I hear his voice
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
His voice is smooth like butter, I'm not used to it after Niehaus' rasp
You watching that on regular MLB highlights or a premium paid version? It’s not showing when I log into the M’s game highlights.
Kermit. - June 27, 2009
Premium through Gameday.
Wilder. - June 27, 2009
MLB Network Roundtripper on the cable television
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009

Slow Country - June 27, 2009
Interleague naysayers, go fuck thyselves
lemonverbena - June 27, 2009

That's right, thanks.
BrianL - June 27, 2009

lemonverbena - June 27, 2009
It's hard for me to dislike Jose when I listen to him talk
gregrabble - June 27, 2009
It's hard for me to dislike Jose because he is awesome
seattlebruin - June 27, 2009
Except that's not really true.
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Jose Lopez is a three bagger
Poochie - June 27, 2009
No, we will not call him the Big Cat.
Stop it now.
msb - June 27, 2009
Isn't that Andres Galarraga's nickname?
Eyebrows - June 27, 2009
Yes.

msb - June 27, 2009
Yes, it was.
ignacio - June 27, 2009
It was Johnny Mize's nickname before Galarraga
and Ralph Johnson before Mize.
Aaron Campeau - June 28, 2009
Besides ...
Felix was never a cat. Maybe a puppy when he first came up ….
msb - June 28, 2009
