I do not put stock in the stat of pitching wins, but lots of people do and getting 300 of them is still impressive, even if for other reasons.
I will never forget 1995 or 1997. I will not forget the almost perfect game(s) with us, the actual no-hitter, and the perfect game you got after you left. I am happy you got your championships with Arizona (and not with New York). I will not forget your start here on May 22nd when the Seattle crowd showed its appreciation for all you did here and you acknowledged how much that meant.
I think you have some pitching legs left in you yet, but if you choose to hang them up after this season, I will understand. You're going into the Hall of Fame someday, that much has been long known, and though I do not much care which hat your plaque has on it, I do hope it is emblazoned with a Seattle S. Call me sentimental, but I cannot help but note that if you do happen to retire after this season, I will be marking my calendar for the last weekend in July, 2015 when you and Junior will both take your rightful places inside the museum.

I hadn't even thought of that.
RJ and Jr going in at the same time would be awesome.
Goose - June 4, 2009
Could be even better.
Since he’s not going to be a first ballot for sure, but might get a boost for being non tainted with steroids and all the other, more reasonable arguments as to his merit, it would not be totally shocking for Edgar to get voted in that year.
Matthew - June 4, 2009
So you caught on to our 20th anniversary reunion plans did ya.
FUCK YOU.
Ken Randy Edgar - June 4, 2009
Didn't even think of that.
It would be the 20th anniv of 1995.
How about that.
Matthew - June 4, 2009
This almost sounds too perfect
OlSalty - June 4, 2009
I have a feeling Randy will go in as a D-Back, which would sour it a bit.
But a very little bit.
SethGrandpa - June 4, 2009
He has more wins with us!
Dibsies!
joof - June 4, 2009
He has stated his desire to go in as a Mariner
Poochie - June 4, 2009
Where?
greymstreet - June 4, 2009
At the very least, he said that Seattle will always be the defining and best part of his career.
joof - June 4, 2009
Maybe he enjoyed Seattle more or feels it's the most special place he played because he learned how to be a great pitcher there.
But four of his five best years were in AZ, not Seattle.
Decatur - June 4, 2009
So I'm happy as long as he's not going in a Yankee.
Decatur - June 4, 2009
I think he said this parly because of the bad blood between him and the D backs
Poochie - June 4, 2009
I had no idea there was any.
What’s the story/linkage?
Decatur - June 4, 2009
They pretty much accused him of quitting on the team and then refused to bring him back even though he offered to take a massive pay cut
Poochie - June 4, 2009
Wow. What monsters.
Was that after 2004? And didn’t the M’s ownership treat Randy pretty poorly in 1998 too?
Decatur - June 4, 2009
No it was after last season, he was traded at the end of 2004.
Poochie - June 4, 2009
And most of his teammates more or less hated him.
Goose - June 4, 2009
Why?
Like an Ichiro-Silva dynamic?
Decatur - June 4, 2009
Randy is kind of a hard guy to get along with
OlSalty - June 4, 2009
But he has such a nice face.
royalcurve - June 4, 2009
It was sometime during Spring Training after he played the Diamondbacks
I don’t know if he ever explicitly said he wanted to go in as a Mariner, but he kind of implied it.
OlSalty - June 4, 2009
That'd be wonderful
gregrabble - June 4, 2009
Right...but he doesn't get final say.
And the lack of anyone on the D-Backs in the Hall or going to be for some time might sway it that way.
SethGrandpa - June 5, 2009
Do we have anyone in the hall?
We’ve been around a lot longer than the D Backs
gregrabble - June 5, 2009
We don't
Unless Niehaus and Gaylord Perry count.
Mariner John - June 5, 2009
Will Schilling go into the Hall as a Diamondback?
He had his best seasons by far there.
Decatur - June 5, 2009
Also, it's a bit odd
that Fangraphs gives Schilling 9.7 WAR in 2002, while Chone only gives him 6.8.
Decatur - June 5, 2009
I doubt it
.Taylor - June 4, 2009
Woa.
Goose - June 4, 2009
Hoo boy.
royalcurve - June 4, 2009
He better come here next year so he can record his 5000th strikeout in a M's uniform.
Poochie - June 4, 2009
GRIFFEY AND RJ REUNITED
.Taylor - June 4, 2009
Except that would mean that Junior would still be playing baseball.....
.Taylor - June 4, 2009
Larry Stone has a nice piece
on RJ, including the HOF
msb - June 4, 2009
That picture will never get old
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2009
Along with Neihaus' call that accompanies Randy pointing to the heavens
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2009
I was studing for a caulcus exam and trying to get with a girl that was in my class during that game.
I passed the exam, but did not get with the girl. Very found memory for sure.
InSpokane - June 5, 2009
I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but this is a slideshow I made about Randy the night after he made his final appearance in Seattle
gregrabble - June 4, 2009
Oops accidentally clicked post, here it is
Here
gregrabble - June 4, 2009
Thank you for that, clearly you are a big fan of Randy's and that was a very nice tribute.
Sinking Away - June 4, 2009
Congrats to Randy, well deserved kudos.
Only wish the game was nationally televised.
Heydude - June 4, 2009
And I'm not counting the MLB Network.
Heydude - June 4, 2009
If a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it...
Kind of describes the MLB Network as it is right now
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2009
I watch it sometimes.
It’s miles better than anything ESPN does that is baseball related.
Goose - June 4, 2009
By far it's better
I had it on directv, but lost it when I switched to Comcast. It’s hard to get unless you up to dish or digital cable (I’m broke).
I do absolutely love the channel though. I miss that and NFL network right now
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2009
MLB Network has been the biggest launch in cable history.
50 million homes or something like that.
Teej - June 4, 2009
I remembered the launch when it happened, just didn't know how big
I also remembered a fuss about the tie-in between extra innings and MLBN. I thought I remembered it making some carriers angry that in order to get MLBN they had to start carrying extra innings too
Brian Floyd - June 4, 2009
Way to go Randy.
You were one of the all-time greats.
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2009
*are
dbroncos31 - June 4, 2009
Mariners > Diamondbacks
I know it may sound ignorant, but the Diamondback fans never deserved him. I’ll always resent that team for winning a title so early in their history, especially when it was supposed to be our year. I really, really, really hope he does what is right and enters the Hall of Fame with us. He’s a Mariner first and foremost.
OceanBird - June 4, 2009
He doesn't decide what hat he wears, he can just tell the HOF people which one he'd prefer to be in. They'll put him in whatever hat they feel best about, though.
BrettJMiller - June 4, 2009
Is that true?
I never heard that rule? That’s too bad but he was with us for more years than any other team.
Hopefulmsfan - June 5, 2009
It's true
It didn’t used to be, though. The ruling came as a result of the speculation that teams were paying players to pick their teams to go in as. Now it is a “mutual decision” between the two parties, but the HOF has the final say.
Brian Floyd - June 5, 2009
I think the HOF would respect Randy and Juniors wishes if they chose Seattle.
Even if they don’t howeever, it will still be a great day when they get in. If it happens to be 2015, that would be perfect. Even better when we win the 2015 World Series. -_*
Hopefulmsfan - June 5, 2009
RE: Your signature
I was stupid enough to buy two. A #3, and a #5
BrettJMiller - June 5, 2009
But I've actually seen people wearing the #7. It's sad.
BrettJMiller - June 5, 2009
Mine's the 5, from last year.
Before I read LL and realized he would never be as good as I had hoped. I guess since A-Rod was my favorite M’s player in th mid 90’s, and SS my favorite position, I wanted Yuni to be good so bad I bought his shirt.
Hopefulmsfan - June 5, 2009
Just be grateful you didn't throw down $120+ on a jersey.
Wilder. - June 5, 2009
I'm highly skeptical this is Jr's last year.
For better or worse.
I’d love to see Randy finish up here. Probably won’t happen, but it would be great.
All of us get to say we got to watch one of the BEST PITCHERS EVER play for our team. Appreciate that ‘cause there probably won’t be another like him.
Big Jared - June 5, 2009
I moved to Tacoma in the summer of '95.
I was only 6 and that was my first experience with a major sports organization.
If Jr, Edgar, and Randy all go into the HOF in the same year I won’t know what to do with myself.
