Stone On Ichiro And The Clubhouse

Passing along a link to an article with some good stuff. Worth checking out if you have a few minutes. My favorite part?

And that didn't just require winning over Ichiro - it required winning over the other players toward accepting Ichiro, and getting over the resentment, or friction, or whatever you want to call it, that existed last year.

"The biggest thing for us was to try to point everyone in his direction,'' Wakamatsu said. "You need to stop pointing the finger that way and say, 'This guy stayed healthy, this guy has been on the All-Star team every year, he's had 200 hits every season. You might want to cherish that and learn from it rather than mock it."

AL Manager of the Year.
He got first half manager of the year props from ESPN.
Reply to the right post idiot!
Its amazing the difference one year makes.
Heh

Why mock Ichiro when Yuni provided more than enough material? :p

But in seriousness, I can’t even find the words to express how much I love this team this year.

So that will have to do.

Now Yuni is gone, we need a new scapegoat.
Rob Johnson's catching?
Cedeno/Woodward!
We will never abandon :(edeno

until his OPS slips under .500.

What’s this you say?

Such a great article.

I know that the sabermetric crowd gets the rap of thinking that clubhouse chemistry and intangibles don’t exist, but I don’t think that’s correct at all. Chemistry is so hard to predict that it’s stupid to try and make moves/assemble a team based on who is going to get along, but I can definitely say that there is no way Wak has hurt the team by making sure everyone is on the same page, and there isn’t any childish bickering like last year. The hires by the FO of Wak and GMZ are seeming better every day. It’s a great time to be a Mariners fan.

Err...gets the wrap.
Wait

Felix has a wife and kids? How did I not know this?

I don't know ...

here

Wak is awesome.

It makes perfect sense to point everybody in the direction of the future HOFer. I think the other future HOFer didn’t hurt in the least in terms of helping the club get there. Who know tickling was going to be a part of it?
